Law Professor: MAGA Hat “Undeniable Symbol Of White Supremacy”

download-3Gonzaga University School of Law Visiting Law Professor Jeffrey Omari has written a column in the ABA Journal that demonstrates the increasingly shrill environment faced by conservative students.  Omari took to the pages of the Journal to recount his almost breathless encounter with a student wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat. Most of us are used to students wearing political hats and teeshirts.  I am always happy to see students with such clothing because it shows that they are engaged and passionate regardless of their views. For Omari, the incident was chilling since he declares the MAGA hats worn by many conservatives to be per se racist symbols.

Omari insisted that anyone wearing the hats are advancing “racial antagonism” since they are an “undeniable symbol of white supremacy”:

“From my (progressive) perspective as a black man living in the increasingly polarized political climate that is America, MAGA is an undeniable symbol of white supremacy and hatred toward certain nonwhite groups.”

The hats are the campaign symbol of Donald Trump and many support his policies.  Yet, Omari insists “For its supporters, MAGA indexes an effort to return to a time in American history when this country was “great” for some—particularly, propertied white men—but brutally exclusionary for others, most notably women and people of color.”  So Trump supporters want to return to a time of brutal suppression of women and people of color?

Omari goes on to describe how he responded, as if a live cougar was thrown into a closed space:

As my blood boiled inwardly, outwardly I remained calm. In an effort to assuage the perceived tension, I jokingly told the student, “I like your hat,” when he raised his hand to participate in class discussion. Without missing a beat, the student mockingly grinned from ear to ear and said, “Thank you.”

. . .

With this scholarship in mind, I understood why no one else in this particular class—in which whites outnumbered students of color 20 to three (with me, the instructor, being the lone African American)—seemed as vexed as I was. Indeed, in a class with such racial uniformity, it appeared frivolous to rely on students to speak up on my behalf, as one of my associates suggested. An informal survey of my colleagues revealed that no other law faculty had experienced any students wearing such propaganda in their classes, which furthered my contention that this student was indeed trying to intimidate and/or racially antagonize me.

It is interesting how Omari’s statement about “liking your hat” was not mocking but the student’s response of “thank you” was mocking.  It was also insulting to say that, because the fact that the other students were white,  it was “frivolous to rely on students to speak up on [his] behalf.” It was frivolous not because of race but because his point was frivolous.  The mere fact that some kid wears a MAGA hat does not mean that he is a racist or that he is trying to racially intimidate an African-American professor.

Omari simply concludes that the hat was by definition improper and inciting but that he would receive no support given his position and race:

But when students fail to live up to such professional expectations, what are the professors’ options? Although my position is at a private university, I understood that my lack of tenure, precarious status as a VAP and the hue of my skin meant that I would be fighting an uphill battle should I have asked the student to remove his distracting red hat during class. Surely, there must be protocol when African-American professors—whose presence is scarce in most law schools—find their authority defiantly undermined by an insensitive student.

Of course, it would have been an “uphill battle” to ask for the removal of the hat unless he was asking for the removal of all hats and clothing of all political viewpoints from Antifa hats to pro-choice hats to NRA hats.  Omari assumed that the interpretation of the hat (which is not shared by many) was manifestly true. This is part of the trend that we have discussed on campuses where speech is being curtailed as racist or microaggressive based on how it is perceived by others as opposed to how it is intended.  In this case, the hat has different meaning to different people.  Yet, Omari believes that it should have been barred from the classroom.

Nevertheless, The ABA Journal thought that this harrowing encounter with a MAGA hat in a class warranted publication.  Why?

  1. We should stop avoiding the real issue in this case – we are no longer thick- skinned enough to be real Americans as our were the founders of our country. They believed in freedom and if someone was offended so be it. Grow up and move on. The real question is whether this “teacher” is qualified to teach if he is so concerned with what the students wear to class rather than how well he made his presentation so the students would understand the subject matter he was teaching. Res ipsit loquitur says it all.

    1. Most non whites do have a problem because of what the hat or phrase stand for, is that simple and I understand why most white dont get it.

Spokane doesn’t have a very large black population….I doubt if it’s even 5%…..but if Gonzaga worked at it, they might be able to mollify Omari by arranging the on-campus presence of those with headgear more to the professor’s liking.

    1. The professor expressed his wish that political gear of any kind be left at the door to class, by faculty or students. If Tom took the time to read the thoughtful article misrepresented by JT, he’d know that.

      1. Everyone recognizes posturing. You’re either playing dumb or it’s not an act.

        1. From the professor’s column:

“…Being a law professor, I understand the complexities of academic freedom and free speech. I respect students’ rights to freely express their political beliefs and values within the framework of the law. Yet, at the same time, law schools are inherently institutions of professional training. Just as faculty and staff are required to maintain professional formalities to aid the training and matriculation of their students, it seems only logical that students, too, should maintain similar businesslike etiquette….”

          1. The notion the professor would have insisted he remove a “Silence = Death” button from his back pack is plausible only to fools and to frauds pretending to be fools.

          2. While we’re at it, the Student Handbooks for the school at large and for the law school are here

            https://www.gonzaga.edu/student-life/student-services/resolution-center/student-code-of-conduct/university-standards-of-conduct

            and here

The school has no dress code. Unless the professor is going to claim he’s in violation of state law on indecent exposure, his complaint is nonsense.

      2. So, the ” thoughtful article” didn’t include Omari’s claim that MAGA hats are a symbol of white supremacy.

        1. “faculty and staff of color in the law school. From my (progressive) perspective as a black man living in the increasingly polarized political climate that is America, MAGA is an undeniable symbol of white supremacy and hatred toward certain nonwhite groups”————— Jeffery Omari
JanF/ anon1/anon must have missed this part of the “thoughtful article”.

          1. I find the quote from Tom above accurate and thoughtful. The comments on this page over time and specifically on this subject, the audience and vote that Trump appeals to and which responds, his attacks on minority “other” groups, his support from neo-Nazis and other alt right citizens, and his dog-whistle appeals to a return to a vague past when those audiences felt in full charge, all to be subtle racism. To most blacks I think the appeal appears less subtle. America wasn’t great for them.

Tom should read the entire article where the professor asks for a non-politicized classroom.

  3. I know the student that professor Omari is referring to. Out of respect for my friend and his family I won’t share his name, but I do feel a need to share a little bit about him. He is one of, if not the most intelligent and gentle people I have the honor of knowing. He is a husband, a father of two amazing daughters, and is actively in the military. If any good can come of the national attention this has received, it’s to share the story of what his 12 year old daughter is doing right now, which is helping her orchestra teacher raise money for his daughter who has brain cancer. My friend’s daughter is so special and kind-hearted, just like her father. When she heard about her teacher’s young daughter and her upcoming brain surgery, my friend’s daughter organized an event to help out for this expensive surgery. She reached out to local businesses and friends to donate products and services to auction off at the event that is to be held this Sunday. This young girl’s efforts are a testimate to what kind of parent and person my friend is. I can’t say enough great things about who my friend is, but I CAN say what he absolutely IS NOT:
He isn’t unkind, selfish, ignorant, unsympathetic, misogynistic, and he most certainly isn’t racist.

    1. Thank you! But of course the media does not care about truth. And never misses a chance to elevate anti-white protectors of various stripes.

tell your friend to run silent and run deep like a submarine. one day he will be close up to the target when he can empty his tubes to maximum effect

    2. Anonymous – thank you for sharing this information about the family. I’m so sorry to hear about the orchestra teacher’s daughter’s cancer diagnosis, and hope her surgery turns out well. Your friend’s daughter sounds like a remarkable young lady, whose industry and kindness stands out among the entitlement generation. It sounds like she is being raised to be a fine person.

I wish this racist Nazi slander against Trump voters would stop. It happened to my own mother, who is one of the sweetest, kindest people on Earth. The Left needs to stop justifying their bigotry and bad behavior. They have called conservatives these same names for decades. The only difference is that it has ramped up with Trump. I am very sorry to hear of this demonization turning against your friend.

      1. Predictably Karen’s “concern” is one way, when most of the racist and political violence comes from the right.

        1. I’ll remember that the next time a Bernie Bro attempts to assassinate the entire Congressional leadership of the Republican Party.

    3. Again, the HAT stands for to some a very dark side and to some like me its a symbol of HATE. If i support a Hitler and his believes and ideas, what that make me?

      1. “Again, the HAT stands for to some a very dark side and to some like me its a symbol of HATE.”

Anonymous, that is because of what is in your mind and has nothing to do with the hat. What needs to be dispensed with is what you carry around with you in your head.

      2. “If i support a Hitler and his believes and ideas, what that make me?”

Anonymous, if you believed in his ideas you would be an anti-Semite, anti gay, anti-Catholic, anti-gypsie and anti-anyone not Aryan.

The MAGA hat has nothing to do with any of those thingss. It wants to make the spirit of America great again. The American spirit is that the individual gave rights to the government not visa versa. The man behind the hat has Jewish grandchildren and doesn’t care about one’s race or one’s sexual preference. He cares about the law and the Constitution and the citizens that live under that Constitution. He doesn’t want their happiness diluted by illegals though he personally, I believe, wants legal immigration.

You seem to be fighting TDS that is a difficult disease to overcome if one doesn’t use logic and doesn’t recognize those things that accelerate the disease.

  4. What MAGA hats Stand For:

    IMMIGRATION RAIDS PLANNED THIS WEEKEND

The Trump administration will launch its long forecasted nationwide raids this weekend, with plans to arrest thousands of undocumented immigrant families beginning Sunday, the New York Times reported Thursday.

According to homeland security officials who spoke to the Times, the raids — which President Trump strongly supports — were initially delayed due to resistance by some within the administration’s immigration agency.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement will carry out the arrests and the raids are expected to take place over the course of several days. While ICE has specific targets in mind, officers will also make “collateral” deportation arrests, according to the Times. The arrests will target more than 2,000 people and will take place in at least 10 U.S. cities.

  5. Of Omari were to happen on a person wearing a white hooded robe, maybe he’d understand the difference between a MAGA hat and actual racist garb.

    1. Tom, the MAGA hat is part of their street clothes ensemble. The robes are ceremonial.

      1. Omari isn’t the only one who doesn’t understand the difference, but the temptation to cry “racism” at every opportunity is overwhelming for some.

        1. but the temptation to cry “racism” at every opportunity is overwhelming for some.

          Tom,
This claim of racism and so many others have made the actual definition something of an unknown. The Left loves to appropriate and redefine terms as necessary. So I am certain if we were able to compile every allegation of racism and look for the common denominator, the definition would look nothing like we’d find in the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary. So what is the new definition of racist/racism?

Photo: Donald Trump and any supporter of Donald Trump
          Political Party: Republican
Symbols: MAGA hat; American Flag; Constitution; DoI; National Anthem; Founding Fathers; Betsy Ross Flag; Gadsden Flag; American Exceptionalism; any municipality, county, district, state and territory with a Republican majority. Anyone that supports anything on this list of accomplishments. https://www.whitehouse.gov/trump-administration-accomplishments/

If that’s what the Left sees as racism, then own it.

          1. To prove this point further, the Left has no compunction in pursuing the revocation of someone’s naturalized US citizenship if that individual doesn’t toe the party line:

So, let me get this straight: Democrats want to use government power to threaten new U.S. citizens if they have right-leaning political ideologies, but we should let every foreign citizen who illegally enters the United States in and give them voting rights, no questions asked? This is political hypocrisy at its finest.

Omar’s anti-Semitic tweets are legitimate proof of her horrific ideology. All Democrats had on Gorka was a poorly written article. Yet Democrats will not condemn Omar for her anti-Semitic rhetoric, while his association with the Trump administration is enough to trigger calls for deporting a U.S. citizen. The American people see through Democrats’ obvious and ridiculous double-standard on race-related rhetoric.
            https://thefederalist.com/2019/07/18/democrats-threatened-deport-top-trump-aide-media-yawned/?utm_source=The+Federalist+List&utm_campaign=c504d488e4-RSS_The_Federalist_Daily_Updates_w_Transom&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfcb868ceb-c504d488e4-79248369

          2. Olly, if we really want to look closely at racism look no further than the Progressive. America is mostly an assimilated and integrated country. Intermarriage among people of different countries, races and religion is the norm for the body of the people. That happened over the period of time the Democratic Party was against immigration in support of the unions that didn’t want competition.

Today a Jimenez can be a leader or it might be another Hispanic with the name of Paul Raines an Hispanic with a non-Hispanic name. The Democratic grievance committees have problems when such people assimilate and become an integral part of the nation unnoticed just like the Greeks, Italians, Spanish, etc.since the activists of the grievance committee require a new group of people that are yet to be assimilated hoping they will never assimilate and maintain their own identities so that grievance politics of the Democrats can reign supreme.

If those enterring our country were middle class fleeing real political tyranny with money and skills the Democrats would shut the doors tight. They don’t want diversity. They want cheap peons to clean their homes and mow their lawns. They don’t want to live among them.

            1. Then the new Lefty definition of Racist is anyone that desires Assimilation in the country. Here then is a racist quote you’ve undoubtedly seen before:

In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people. Teddy Roosevelt

  6. If a law Professor does not understand what “undeniable” means, or free speech, or tolerance, should he be teaching at a major university? I would have concerns about grading bias.

HIs writings evince a lack of critical reasoning skills.

  7. “The mere fact that some kid wears a MAGA hat does not mean that he is a racist..”

    Does too.

    1. As I said a bit earlier, the temptation to cry racism at every opportunity is overwhelming for some.

      1. The temptation to blame immigrants for every social ill is overwhelming for some.

          1. Absurd,
I didn’t see any “blame immigrants” comments in this thread…….I did see some “blame MAGA hats” comments.
Is it possible that someone was just trying to latch on to a pet talking point that had nothing to do with what we were talking about?

            1. MAGA hats represent Donald Trump and what’s commonly known as ‘Trumpism’. If said movement has P R issues, than Trump himself is to blame.

No one outside the rightwing bubble actually believes that Trump is going to make America ‘great again’. That slogan, as it applies to Trump, is downright laughable.

I mean, here we have a narcissistic bully, from a privileged background, who not only dodged the draft, but went on to dodge hundreds of millions in taxes while filing various bankruptcies. And we’re supposed to think he has the moral fiber to make us ‘great again’..??!

              1. 1. He didn’t dodge the draft. He received a I-Y deferment. About 12% of each cohort received these deferments during the war. Over 100,000 were awarded each year. What happened is he was sent to the back of the queue and could have been recalled in as little as 90 days. At the end of 1969, he and his brother were excused from conscription because they had high lottery numbers. It was a lottery, Peter. No ‘privilege’ incorporated therein.

                2. There is no indication whatsoever that he is in arrears on any taxes. Little doubt he’s been audited up the wazoo. What’s your contention, that he’s obligated to pay more than he owes?

                3. Again, he applied for re-organization 4x on the same set of Atlantic City properties before eventually selling them. You haven’t yet learned what is meant by ‘limited liability’ or ‘equity capital’.

                4. As ever, no one can figure out if your posts arise from stupidity, pig-ignorance, or mendacity. Try being right about something. Other people manage it.

                1. Typical Peter Shill. He lies continuously and is ignorant. He libels people and when it is shown that what he says is not true he libels them at a later time. One can’t do much about the Peters of the world except to call them out.

Sometimes a red hat is just a hat.

                  1. If Peter’s red hat has a hammer and sickle on it , then it’s more than a red hat in that case

                    1. Yeah, Tom, I’ll have to wear the hammer and sickle next time I hike through Beverly Hills.

                2. Tabby, we know Trump wrote off $900 million in taxes over a period of about 9 years. That was some ‘carry-over’ from his various bankruptcies.

But let us not forget that Trump won’t allow his more recent tax returns to be seen by the public. This refusal arises from stupidity, pig-ignorance or mendacity. Take your pick.

                  1. Peter, neither you nor the people who generate the talking point mills you consult have a clue about Trump’s tax picture. Go away.

                    1. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/05/07/us/politics/donald-trump-taxes.html

“….The numbers show that in 1985, Mr. Trump reported losses of $46.1 million from his core businesses — largely casinos, hotels and retail space in apartment buildings. They continued to lose money every year, totaling $1.17 billion in losses for the decade.

In fact, year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer, The Times found when it compared his results with detailed information the I.R.S. compiles on an annual sampling of high-income earners. His core business losses in 1990 and 1991 — more than $250 million each year — were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years.

Over all, Mr. Trump lost so much money that he was able to avoid paying income taxes for eight of the 10 years. It is not known whether the I.R.S. later required changes after audits….”

                    2. Again, you have no critical engagement with these matters and neither does the agitpropmeister for the Sulzberger Birdcage Liner. The people who do work in tax law or work for the IRS. Guess who gets to audit his returns?

                    3. agitpropmeister… agitprop, great word.I comment on it because it is the shortened version of the words agitatsiya propaganda. The strategy exists everywhere but those words I believe are more specific to Marxism and the Soviet Union. Agitate and promote propaganda at the same time.

We have a bunch of pawns on this blog that are controlled by other minds and their own minds have completely closed down. Emotions not brains control the functioning of these individuals. I think Lenin had an agitprop committee within the Central Committee. Mold public opinion with half truths, slogans or talking points along with the use of grievance all commonly seen in the Democratic Party of today.

                    4. DSS, these guys are extremely uneducated when it comes to banking, finance and taxes. A simple business or a simple personal return is easy, but complex returns are a different animal and they can’t grasp that simple fact. Many people think that all they would need for a Coop board in NYC is a tax return, but even these boards recognize that tax returns tell relatively little so they demand far more information then simple tax returns. Since that is the case why would these schnooks feel Trump’s tax returns would tell them what they want to know?

                3. 1. His medical was gotten from a doc who rented his office from Trump’s Daddy, and his family remembers him speaking of it as a favor.
                  2. Toadies like TIA cheer on Trump’s desperate actions to hide his finances, including tax returns, and then triumphantly proclaims no evidence. Of course the NYT’s in a lengthy investigation showed Trump and Daddy as tax cheats.
                  3. The NYT’s also showed he claimed the biggest losses of anyone in America in the mid 90’s even though we know he was far from he richest.
                  4. Trump left a bunch of people, from painters to investors, holding the bag on his numerous bankruptcies and has a long history of not paying his bills, even to the little guys, and hiring illegals.

Only cult followers like TIA would find the liar, cheat, braggart, and self serving j.. o… who is our president an honest broker of anything.

                  1. Asinine.
                    1) People frequent professionals that are in a convenient area or who they have some knowledge of.
                    2) Taxes were meant to be private when the tax law was passed and reveal very little.
                    3) I don’t know about the biggest but it was big. The loss was recognized by the IRS who has scrutinized his tax records. He went from that loss that would be the end of most and rebuilt an empire.
                    4) Trump never went bankrupt personally. One of the people I know had a very high up position at one of the banks that lost money with Trump. He did like Trump but said the bank was always willing to invest with him because he made them money that more than covered their losses. Despite not liking Trump he thought from the beginning that Trump was a fantastic candidate and understood what was needed to move our economy and other things forward.

These are the major points Anon has against Trump. It makes him look stupid because these points amount to nothing .Anon doesn’t have the sophistication to understand how ridiculous he sounds repeating these types of points.

In the meantime Trump is doing a great job and the Democratic Party is imploding. It is almost as if Anon is brainless and just floating along with all the destruction not knowing what is happening..

                    1. See Thos. Sowell on this point: the Anointed confound expertise and intelligence and then confound intelligence with articulateness.

Anon’s posts remind you that the Democratic Party has turned into a collecting pool of the most arrogant people you know. Anon thinks licensed physicians who did hundreds of induction physicals a year couldn’t recognize a con job. He thinks the IRS auditors know less about Trump’s taxes than Sulzberger minions. He thinks people who undertake corporate lending and finance commercial real estate know less about Trump’s creditworthiness than he does or than the Sulzberger minions do. Both he and Peter give evidence with every post that they have no understanding of what is meant by ‘limited liability corporation’ or of what is done in bankruptcy proceedings. But they’re out to instruct all of us.

                    2. DSS, Anon’s intellectual ability and his knowledge bank is quite low. His arrogance makes him think that he knows more than he does because he can repeat several talking points at a time though there is no depth. There is no depth.

His claim to superintelligence when it comes to finance is he did his own tax returns. He has never looked at a complex tax return that requires specialists and tax attorney’s.

                  2. the NYT piece was a hatchet job from a reporter who barely scratched the surface.

i explained this before. fractional interest discounting is based on lack of control and lack of marketability which are very real and legit economic concepts and were for decades accepted valuation strategies. even with recent IRS successes pushing back at this, they remain an accepted part of transfer tax planning methodology.

here’s one of thousands of short articles you can harvest from the net which touches on this.

                    http://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/x/802548/wills+intestacy+estate+planning/New+Considerations+In+Family+Partnership+Planning

and to remind you, tax avoidance is not tax evasion. lawful tax avoidance is very laudable and proper financial strategy.

the NYT article was a joke from some clown of a “journalist” who pays $50 to have his 1040 done by a flunkie at HR block

                    1. oh, i guess i was referring to a different hatchet job than the “decade in the red” article. i mentioned that other one because he called him a ‘tax cheat”

it’s not clear to me what the decade in the red article says, and I’m not going to bother to hassle making my way around the paywall to find out. you can copy it here if you want me to look at it, otherwise i let it sit in the garbage unseen with the usual NYT dreck

                    2. kurtz’s earlier false attacks against the NYT’s were proven so to his face and yet he continued to lie about them. He’s like the cult figure he obeys – a liar without regard for facts. Anyone who wants his opinion on anything – and especially a NYTs article – is begging for BS.

                    3. ha what criticisms i laid on NYT ring truer than your schlepping copy for them newspaperboy

keep it up and I’ll double down with another 10 articles about what a lame operation the NYT has now become

                    4. kurtz still insists his “criticism” of the NYTs regarding Hong Kong was valid even after it was proven absolutely and patently false. This was a matter of fact, not opinion. His full of s…

                    5. oh you mean like how the NYT buried the HK protest articles in the backpages? Yeah they did that. for many days when they should have had them front and center, but didn’t

You keep on shining their shoes however, it’s a good exercise for you, NYT fanboy

                    6. Kurtz was shown the front page article from the day on which he was accusing them of hiding it and being “owned” by the Chinese as well as their editorial denouncing the Chinese government, so it is proven that his statement then was false and anything else he says now lacks the value of that stated by an honorable person. He isn’t one, and the NYTs is obviously more trustworthy than he is.

                4. #this is absurd – Are you for real ? – Typical trump supporter, Facts and truth do not matter.

              2. Hard to keep up with Hopscotch Hill.
I thought he was the one implying that Trump supporters were racist, that they blame immigrants for all of the U.S. ‘s problems, etc.
Bit in his latest editorial here, he now says it’s Trump to blame for bad PR…… another issue he “seemlessly” 😄 glides into.
Without the positive Trump PR we see from HH😉 almost daily, Trump would have a really big PR problem.

                1. Didn’t mean to misqoute Peter since he was talking about “Trumpism”, and “said movement” with the PR problem.
Also, If the words and phrases ” right-wing media bubble”, “Fox News”, and “Hannity” were unavailable, Peter and a few others would lose half of their material.

              3. the greatest warlords in history had plenty of “moral fiber” where it counted, most of all courage

                a word unknown to worms

Chinggis Khan, a terrible killer of untold numbers, had courage coming out of his ears he had so much. that’s the kind of moral fiber you want in a leader of the people. Mongols loved him!

there’s more to morality than petty nonsense like whether or not one toes the sjw party line

    2. I’m sorry, do you know this student? Because I do and he isn’t what you and professor Omari are accusing him of being. He is however a supporter of freedom of speech and expression, neither of which justify being called a racist.

    3. smart “racists” run silent and run deep
powerful ones wear suits not maga hats

take a lesson, fools! don’t paint a target on your own head

  8. College Professor is slash has become an undeniable term of the failure of the university and college systgem

  9. Our political culture has slipped way below the cerebral domain of logic and possibility to the pure expression of innate, hindbrain tribalistic loathing-paranoia.

Joe Biden had a perfect opportunity to be the senior sage of Civics 101 in the debate, arguing for the practical benefits of civility — of constructive disagreement within a broader
context of trust and loyalty. He blew it, apologizing for his remarks about civility within the Senate, and implicitly endorsing the correctness of “guilt-by-flimsiest-association” that
    now inhabits the progressive thinker.

There are positive exemplars out there. I thought the way Eric Swalwell made light of Biden’s advanced age with wit and humor demonstrated that civility is not dead. But, then
it counted for nothing in the media’s eyes compared to Kamala Harris’ implicit accusations of racism launched on Uncle Joe. The media doesn’t value civility — maybe the audience who consumes media doesn’t value it anymore. Maybe the audience is looking for dramatic sparks and tribal validation more than a constructive political process.

One thing is certain….the infotainment-rich approach to political problem-solving is producing nothing of long-term value. It is sapping confidence while generating impressive media “analytics”. The question is whether such unproductive political dialog is compatible with America remaining a great nation. As the unsolved challenges pile up (broken immigration system, the mounting national debt and structural deficit, public education mediocrity, the decline of marriage, irreversible pollution of the ecosphere, the ascent of transnational organized crime and its comingling with nation states, the unwillingness to take strong measures to deter cybercrime and international cyberattacks, the creeping surveillance corprocracy – all of which get worse over time. Time is not the friend of the politically-paralyzed nation state.

  10. The last time I posted a video from O’Keefe about Google, Peter Hill complained that there was just one video and one disguised guy. People from Google have released information that is supposed to be kept secret and O’Keefe is asking this disguised man what some of the information on the pages mean.

To satisfy Peter I am posting the next in this series of Project Veritas videos that are examples of some of the best journalism we are seeing in this country. I hope to keep posting such videos to keep people like Peter apprised of what is happening in the world. Other people are risking their jobs releasing information as a service. I hope Peter can understand that.

  11. Professor Omari counts white skins versus black skins in his class to make a point about the political leanings of those students and Gonzaga’s law school in general. Does anyone else notice a strong current of racism and circular reasoning on Omari’s part, strong enough that students in his classes at Gonzaga would be justified in wondering whether their grades in his class would reflect their actual class performance – or Omari’s own political and racial bias? The student wearing the wrong kind of hat to a law school class needs to document his performance in Omari’s class. Unobtrusive video recording wouldn’t be a bad idea.

  12. Another affirmative action hire, no doubt about it…
….. Logical reasoning seems far beyond some people….. I wonder if Omari thought about why they were mostly white kids in is class… Because blacks put far less importance on education, of course…

  13. It is a symbol of Make America Great Again…
    you just don’t get it..
we don’t care what color, religion, background, status, age, sex you are.
We just care if you love The USA and the flag and want to support The Constitution…

  14. Well well well, call a heart a spade.I’m and a majority of my MAGA’s are called to “Love our enemies”and we will do so.We Love you Professor, deeply. We choose to be overcomers not destroying relationships but building them.We may not agree, but we are able to sit down and talk without being emotionally out of control. Its called understanding and believing both sides are just as important. This is a God sided approach.Satan wants to destroy us all for his jealousy against God. STOP reflecting a similar agenda listen, meet for change and work truth till it prevails. That is the real America, become the solution by not trying to destroy others.Truth is mighty, work it.This is why or forefathers protected all of us with the Constitution, please use it to protect us,not destoy everything it stands for.I hope this letter helps us all, peace and Love works, hate and lack of emotional control will destoy us all.amishfriend57@gmail.com Daniel Rusanowsky

    1. That’s very nice and brave. I prefer to hate my enemies. It’s not very Christian of me. but I’m ok with that, for now.

You better believe the Left hates you and me too. If you always deny your own hate, then you’re going to shut down an important part of your inner life. It’s not wrong per se.

Hate is a natural feeling. Hate comes when people attack what you love and value. Hate is part of our evolved brains and necessary arrow in our quiver of survival instincts.

      https://medium.com/little-old-lady-comedy/why-i-believe-that-hate-is-really-really-important-9fbb22803463

maybe that is a tongue in cheek essay but i found it amusing

      1. “I’ve seen hate, hate that you’ve seen. … It’s impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what hate means. Hate! Hate has a face, and you must make a friend of hate. hate and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies.”

        1. The Beginnings

          1914-1918

“Mary Postgate” (A Diversity of Creatures)

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late
With long arrears to make good,
When the English began to hate.

          They were not easily moved,
          They were icy-willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the English began to hate.

Their voices were even and low,
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show,
When the English began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd,
It was not taught by the State.
          No man spoke it aloud,
When the English began to hate.

          It was not suddenly bred,
          It will not swiftly abate,
          Through the chill years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the English began to hate.

          Rudyard Kipling

  15. It’s a symbol of white supremacy, because everything is a symbol of white supremacy. This nimrod has a phd in cultural anthropology. This affords no actual marketable skills, but if you hand a cultural anthropologist a can of soup, he can find evidence of oppression in the list of ingredients.

  16. As a black man I don’t need this professor nor any other black person or person of any color telling me what to think or how to think. It amazing me how people hate on someone or something when things don’t go their way. I never heard one word of Donald Trump being a racist until he won the election that was suppose to have been an easy win for Mrs Clinton. It sounds to be that this professor is the racist. I just ordered my maga hat👍

    1. “As a black man I don’t need this professor nor any other black person or person of any color telling me what to think or how to think.”

Congrats! You know who you are and your self worth. You don’t have to be told by another. This professor needs someone like you to explain life to him so that his own self worth can exceed his fears.

  17. Well, I haven’t been wearing mine, but I will year it everywhere I go from now on. This lie, that all things trump is racist, is right from the sit of the America hating left, in an attempt to shame and remove this president, and is absolutely false. Muller didn’t work, no collusion between trump and russia, hillary and many politicians yes, but not trump, so the desperate, pathetic, unhinged left must try something else.

  18. “From my (progressive) perspective as a black man living in the increasingly polarized political climate that is America, MAGA is an undeniable symbol of white supremacy and hatred toward certain nonwhite groups.”

I wonder if he feels the same way about JFK?
These Self labeled progressives, are truly regressive.

  19. So I’m black. He far he make that assumption? Black’s are always claiming racism and oppression. Always playing the victim and blaming others for their F- ups. Speak for yourself, you bigot! I’ll continue to wear my MAGA hat and dare you to tell me something about it.
