Washington Attacker On Immigration Center Was An Antifa Member and Featured On CNN

Various news organizations are reporting that the man who threw “incendiary devices” at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington was an Antifa member and appears to have been featured on CNN’s “United Shades of America” with W. Kamau Bell as “one of the good guys.” Police shot and killed Willem Van Spronsen at the scene. However, there has been little coverage of his background or the CNN feature. That is curious given the steady coverage of how right-wing groups are being pushing to violence by the Trump Administration and “alt right” sites. This is not to say that CNN encouraged violence but rather that the level of coverage (and presumed connection with political or media sources) is different.

I have been a long critic of Antifa and its academic supporters. I am not surprised therefore that Van Spronsen posted a manifesto declaring “I am Antifa” or that Antifa members are applauding him as a hero or martyr to their cause.

What is more interesting is the May 5th episode of United Shades of America where Bell seems to relish the individuals are the “good guys,” including Van Spronsen, 69. Bell featured what he billed as the “Redneck Revolt,” gun-toting liberals who are battling the “alt-right.” Bell follows them to gun ranges and asked why “more white people” are not joining their ranks.

Bell explained that the “Redneck Revolt” “protects counter-protesters, feeds the hungry and fights right-wing extremis.

Particularly after the attack on journalist Andy Ngo, one would think that this coverage would raise the same concerns over rising political violation. It hasn’t.

I do not in any way believe that Bell encouraged violence. I have never seen his show but it would seem a legitimate and interesting subject for an episode. However, the same can be true about conservatives who are regularly blamed for violence, including Trump. I have repeatedly condemned Trump for this rhetoric, including just yesterday in a blog column. Yet, the coverage on political violence seems to be focused almost exclusively on the right despite the rising number of attacks by Antifa and related groups.

What do you think?

  1. Antifa Mob Viciously Assaults Journalist Andy Ngo at Portland Rally
Masked activists attacked the Quillette editor with fists and milkshakes, sending him to the emergency room.

Antifa clashes with police and journalists in Charlottesville and DC

Antifa says it fights fascists and neo-Nazis. But this weekend, members attacked cops and journalists.

This is not the first time antifa protesters have been violent. In August 2017, about 100 anarchists and antifa members assaulted far-right demonstrators who were marching peacefully in Berkeley, California, with pepper spray, water bottles, and direct physical assault.

  2. With the vast amount of violent rhetoric and frequent hate crimes perpetrated by the Alt-Right, it would seem to be inevitable that the Left would produce some of its own.

Those who are fomenting the end of our nation by divide-and-conquer must be pleased.

    1. frequent hate crimes of alt right? what’s the frequency? how about a list.

      1. Alt-right motivations include hatred against Jews, women, liberals, blacks, Muslims, non-white immigrants. These are some of their attacks:

Norway attacks (77 killed, 2011) by Anders Breivik
Wisconsin Sikh Temple shooting (6 killed, 2012)
Overland Park Jewish Community Center shooting (3 killed, 2014)
Isla Vista shooting (6 killed, 2014)
Charleston AME Church shooting (9 killed, 2015) by Dylann Roof
Umpqua Comm. College shooting (9 killed, 2015) by Chris Mercer
Murder of British MP Jo Cox (2016)
Munich Mall shooting (9 killed, 2016) by Ali David Sonboly
Quebec City Mosque shooting (6 killed, 2017)
Aztec High school shooting (2 killed, 2018)
Toronto van attack (10 killed, 2018)
Pittsburgh synagogue attack (11 killed, 2018)
        Tallahassee shooting ( 2 killed, 2019)
        Christchurch attacks (50 killed, 2019)
Poway synagogue attack (1 dead, 2019)

Conservatives need to be objective, non-partisan and steadfast in denouncing political violence.

          1. Many of the attacks attributed to the right are coming from groups disavowed by the right and have leftist origins.

Richard Spencer who is said to have named the alt-rightmovement believes in socialism and national health insurance. That sounds more on the left than on the right even though he is a White Nationalist.

            1. At least a couple of the cases mentioned in pbinca’s list appeared to be “non-political” murders.
In both the Umpqua and Toronto cases, there were mental health issues……looks like both murders where briefly in the military, then washed out or were booted out.
I couldn’t find a “political element” involved in either case.

              1. Tom, people have a tendency to classify others without knowing what the criteria are to be classified as such. Even if they know the criteria they frequently don’t know enough about the group they are talking about. I’m not judging pbianca here only encouring her to define her terms and then provide proof for what she believes. Look at the discussions that have occurred on this list as to whether Turley is left or right. Now the same is occurring with Dershowitz among leftists.

                  1. Tom, the evidence of “classification” issues as you call them is all over the place. We see that whereever political issues are involved.

        1. pbninca,
I’m not familiar with the political views/ affiliations of the perpetrators in most of these cases.
I’m somewhat familiar with the Umpqua Community College shooting on Roseburg, Oregon, since I’d been in Roseburg several months before the shooting and know the are a bit.
I never saw anything mentioned about the shooter’s politics, and I just did a quick search to check and could find nothing.
His “manifesto”, published a couple of years after the murders, indicted an interest in the occult.
He claimed to be part of a “demonic Hierarchy”, which could possibly mean that he was a Democrat😉😄, but other than that I couldn’t find any political motive or affiliation.
          http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/sep/08/oregon-authorities-release-manifesto-from-mass-sho/

          1. pbinca,
PS….I didn’t see a citation for where you got this list.
Is it from an established media source?

        2. These are some of their attacks:

          You have fourteen incidents listed.

The Isla Vista shooting, the Umpaqua Community College shootings, the Munich Mall shootings, the Aztec High School shootings, the Toronto van attack, the Tallahassee shooting were all perpetrated by people who had idiosyncratic motives which derived from their personal life. That’s six of your fourteen examples.

As for the remainder, the perpetrators in Poway, Christchurch, Pittsburgh, and Charleston were all bachelors who had no association with any organization where people actually meet and act in common. They were lone wolves.

Three of the remainder (the guy in Wisconsin, the Overland Park guy, and the fellow in Britain) actually did have organizational memberships (though, notably, no family). However, all of them were in bizarre fringe organizations that have nothing to do with ordinary starboard politics (and which, of course, receive no succor in the media or academe).

So, explain to me why we take the rap for these creatures?

          1. Good job DSS. Republicans are too afraid of their shadows or they are too busy working and building things.

    2. seem to be inevitable that the Left would produce some of its own.

      Troll harder deary.

With the Left decapitating newborn babies minutes after being born, aside from the 60,000,000+ abortions performed since Roe v Wade, the Left have no moral standing in this discussion. You people make Adolf Hitler look like a patsy

  3. Let’s reduce the equation to its simplest form. Antifa, Progressives, Socialists, Liberals, Democrats, etc., are all communists-in-waiting and , therefore, communists that are bound and determined to ultimately forcibly impose communism on America.

We can observe the long-term effect of the imposition of communist principles beginning with General Secretary Lincoln and his successors, who initially eliminated classes in American society in 1865, and continuing through General Secretaries Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton, Obama – elimination of slave class, IRS, Income Tax, Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, Currency Float, Welfare, Affirmative Action, Quotas, Food Stamps, Social Services, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Utility Subsidies, forced busing, “Fair Housing,” “Non-Discrimination,” WIC, TANF, HAMP, HARP, HUD, HHS, Labor, Education, Obamacare, etc.

The American thesis is freedom and self-reliance. Americans, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights, sustain their own subsistence and “pursue” their own happiness while enjoying maximal freedom, including every conceivable natural and God-given unenumerated right and freedom per the 9th Amendment, while government is severely restricted and limited to providing security and infrastructure and exists merely to facilitate the aforementioned rights and freedoms of individuals.

Communists forcibly impose enslavement by the tyrannical “dictatorship of the proletariat” through the principles of the Communist Manifesto including, but not limited to:

    – Central Planning

    – Control of the Means of Production (i.e. “regulation”)

    – Redistribution of Wealth

    – Social Engineering

Clearly, Antifa, Progressives, Socialists, Liberals, Democrats are confirmed anti-American, anti-Constitutionalist communists.

  4. What do I think? Just take a look at where we are right now, with the lack of any unifying leadership consistent with our American ideals that all people are created equal and endowed with the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, we have a malignant narcissist who craves attention, who lies constantly, who attacks anyone who criticizes him and a Republican Party that does nothing about any of it. At his campaign rallies, Trump encouraged people to physically attack verbal protesters. He encouraged law enforcement officers to not protect the heads of suspects when they are placed into squad cars. He praised White Supremacists, even after they killed a protester. He intentionally separates young migrant children from their parents and cages them and their parents, sometimes under horrific dehumanizing conditions, to serve as a deterrent for seeking asylum. The Hypocrite-in-Chief, Evangelist Mikey Pence, saw and smelled what his administration is doing to these people, along with Lindsey Graham, and pivoted to blame Democrats for not giving Trump a blank check. No compassion, no empathy whatsoever. Trump launched into a racist diatribe against 4 female members of Congress that, with a couple of exceptions, has not been condemned by Republicans. In fact, that is a campaign strategy: to paint Democrats as all being radical socialists by trying to put the faces of these 4 women of color on the Democratic Party, because maybe Moscow won’t be able to come through again this time. Anything to keep those tax cuts and roll backs of consumer and environmental protections. Anything to keep power, to keep those cameras on the Dotard.

So you have Antifa. Are you surprised? Things will only get worse as time rolls on, and rioting may not be far off. America deserves better and is better than Trump.

    1. Natacha, when Trump was campaigning for president and whipping mostly White crowds into fits of rage, my fear was that he would provoke a backlash among similarly ignorant leftists. And Trump has! It’s like Newtown’s law of motion. For this reason presidents have historically sought to ‘unite’ the country with unifying themes.

But Trump, being our first Fox News president, practices the politics of division. That is he thinks division is desirable. In such an environment, the lunatic fringe from both ends feels a sense of empowerment.

      1. Pete: I agree completely, and I worry about the end product of encouraging divisiveness and tribalism, which may well be rioting like we had in the 1960s. Ignoramus v. Ignoramus equals violence. People could get killed, so we end up with the optics of Selma all over again with more wounds that need healing. That’s what happens when you have someone in charge who is not a patriot and who craves power and the perceived prestige of office. Trump derived his power from festering resentment among rural and non college educated white people over the first POTUS with African heritage, plus fear of change–change in the economy, change in the ethnic make up of this country. Pandering to fear and stoking hatred is simply immoral, but where are the Evangelists like Mikey Pence and the Republicans who claim the moral high ground? They don’t even verbally condemn this mentality or try to use words to unite us.

        1. You should worry, because teeming hordes of lumpen-prole rioters in the big cities where you lilly white liberals live could target you as their first morsel if and when they go on a big rampage.

Out here in flyover, it’s a different equation altogether.

There is a little potential schadenfreude in me that anticipates the day, when the rising tide of migrants chews the Starbucks crowd up for breakfast.

But apparently the Starbucks crowd knows this is a possibility. For example:

          https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/local/article164420672.html

    2. Let the rioting come. Mass together and stand still. We can fix the problem very quickly.

  5. ANTIFA IS NO ONE IN PARTICULAR

Professor Turley (and rightwing media) repeatedly refer to Antifa as a bona fide movement representing liberal sentiments in the U.S. The idea seems to be that Antifa is loosely connected to the Democratic Party. In reality ‘Antifa’ is just a very broad term that applies to any group of anti-Trump hard-liners. No group needs credentials to call themselves ‘Antifa’.

This is how Wikipedia describes Antifa:

    Terminology

Although various antifascist movements have existed in the United States since the beginning of fascism, the word antifa, adopted from German usage, only came into prominence as an umbrella term in English in 2017. The ADL makes a point that the label “antifa” should be limited to “those who proactively seek physical confrontations with their perceived fascist adversaries,” and not be misapplied to include all counter-protesters.

    Ideology and activities

Antifa is not an interconnected or unified organization, but rather a movement without a leadership structure, comprising multiple autonomous groups and individuals. Since it is composed of autonomous groups, and thus has no formal organization or membership it is impossible to know how many groups are active. Activists typically organize protests via social media and through websites and email lists. Some activists have built peer-to-peer networks, or use encrypted-texting services like Signal, According to Salon, it is an organizing strategy, not a group of people. While its numbers cannot be estimated accurately, the movement has grown since the 2016 presidential election and approximately 200 groups currently exist in the US, of varying sizes and levels of engagement. The activists involved subscribe to a range of ideologies, typically on the left and they include anarchists, socialists and communists along with some liberals and social democrats.

    1. Does anyone here really think JT is a conservative of any stripe? I read JT extensively, am acquainted with him personally and I can assure anyone that he is a self proclaimed liberal who believes in free speech but holds liberal views on most other issues.

Of course the overton window has moved so drastically in the last 10 years, that such people are routinely referred to as conservative or even alt right.

Here’s a guide for all whites reading this.

Moves out = white flight = racism

Moves in = gentrification = racism

      Sees color = racism

Doesn’t see color = ignoring racism = racism

      Doesn’t partake in culture = non-inclusive = racism

Engages in culture = cultural appropriation = racism

Leftism, political correctness and multiculturalism are churches without the possibility of salvation.

I look forward to a day when everyone realizes this and says to h@ll with it all.

I also look forward to when this wreck of a country breaks up. It’s coming, count on it. I hope it occurs peacefully but leftists for all of their posturing about peace and love, do few things peaceably.

        1. @pbinca

You can argue that my post may not be germane to the topic but a case can be made for its truth.

So, does this mean it’s ok if I engage in “white flight” due to crime and decreasing property values?

You hypocrite! You would call me a racist immediately (from your gated community or upper middle class neighborhood, of course).

          antonio

          1. Do you ever get tired of arguing with yourself to make a point? So many self-serving vignettes, you are not a victim of anything but your own hatred.

            1. @YNOT

Easy to say but you know very little about me. My Actually I hate no one but I live in realville and recognize there are differences between groups of people (in the aggregate). Unfortunately, evolution did not stop at the neck and people are not blank slates.

Besides, I’m Hispanic, so I’m a member of a victim class in leftist thinking. Spanish name and all. If I were a lefty Hispanic you would be kissing my a@@ to suck up.

              antonio

    2. yes. antifa at the street level, is a just a bunch of freaks and heroin addicts and anarchists and generally disaffected urban losers who want to have fun bullying people and break stuff. arrest them for vagrancy and make them roll on their organizers.

if you scratch the surface of the organizers, you might find very interesting people, names, and streams of resources.

    3. ” In reality ‘Antifa’ is just a very broad term that applies to any group of anti-Trump hard-liners.”

If one actually talks to Antifa members one recognizes that they vote Democratic. If one follows close enough they will find Democratic operatives and leaders. Peter’s comment is wrong.

    1. It is not shocking to hear: “This Antifa activist carries sparkly brass knuckles and a knife ‘just in case’
      W. Kamau Bell is shocked to find brass knuckles and a knife in the bag of this Antifa activist. To learn more about Antifa, watch “United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell” on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.Source: CNN”

If she carries brass knuckles in NYC she can be arrested.

      1. the fat lady is a braggart and a bully.

a smart operator doesn’t show capabilities and especially never brags about things on film

these antifa losers aren’t much to worry about, not yet at least

  6. While at the gym early this morning CNN was on one of the TV monitors and no mention of their Antifa hero threatening Americans. Not even a chyron.
Instead they grandstanded (true to form) about Pelosi (accused of being a racist) introducing a resolution in the House to condemn Trump as a racist.

Trump is going to win 2020 with CNN, AOC/Squad, Antifa giving him the election on a silver platter.

  7. What do I think?

Reminds me of actor Lee Van Cleef playing the villain.

Here’s Lee mouthing off at the Rifleman in a saloon. Lee asks, am I breaking the law? The Rifleman replies, just your being here is wrong.

  8. I posted an article on this yesterday “CNN Refuses to Comment on Their Show Featuring Antifa Terrorist Who Tried to Kill ICE Officials…”

Antifa is very violent and is far more violent today than any other group. It seems both sides disavow the Nazi’s and White Nationalists though the origins of the Nai’s clearly come from the left and many White Nationalists support leftist policies. The right (conservatives, classical liberals etc.) are generally not politically violent. I don’t think the Nazi’s have that much power but I do note that Antifa has been said to have as many as 15,000 members in NYC.

I think we can better define where the violence comes from if we divide the political spectrum into three parts instead of left vs right (where the right is anything the left wishes to disavow). Right, Left and Nazi type despite the fact that the Nazi evolves from the communists.

    1. Allen,

Just as reported at the time with the Charlottesville Va the Antifa/Neo-Nazi scam that story is now in the process resurfacing.

Some idiot filed a lawsuit over the event against Infowars.

So in defending itself Infowars is now saying it has the evidence showing that most of those Antifa/Neo-Nazis were in fact paid actors/Agiprop.

Infowars is claiming they have all the records, like the hiring papers, the rehearsal stuff… etc… & & who it was paying the bill.

When I’ve time I’ll pull up where I seen/heard the info.

      1. Oky, I’d like to see proof, but it can’t be the type of proof we get from the Washington Post where news is twisted to meet personal needs.Post when you are able. We have seen paid actors in the past but I have no opinion with regard to such a claim in this instance.

  9. What do I think? JT should educate himself on the data on right wing vs left wing terrorism in America. It’s not even close. His tit for tat analysis is wrong.

“• In 2018, domestic extremists killed at least 50 people
in the U.S., a sharp increase from the 37 extremistrelated murders documented in 2017, though still lower
    than the totals for 2015 (70) and 2016 (72). The 50
deaths make 2018 the fourth-deadliest year on record
for domestic extremist-related killings since 1970.
    • The extremist-related murders in 2018 were
    overwhelmingly linked to right-wing extremists.
Every one of the perpetrators had ties to at least one
right-wing extremist movement, although one had
recently switched to supporting Islamist extremism.
White supremacists were responsible for the great
majority of the killings, which is typically the case. ”

    https://www.adl.org/media/12480/download

    1. Are you a moron? Las Vegas? FL night club? These were not right wingers. That paper you reference is a politically biased joke.

      1. butthead, the stats are for 2018 though they point out that white supremists and the ADL is not a newspaper. Do you have info on the Vegas shooter?

        1. Chances are those white supremecists actually have more in common with the left than the right. Check out Richard Spencer who is said to have coined the word alt-right. He believes in socialism and national health insurance.

          1. Chances are you will say several stupid things on this thread. Also, you need a talking point; it is wrong and you have used it twice today.

        2. While we can sympathize that you troll for dollars, as pro football players bring attention to brain injury from their athletic career, you, cupcake, wont have George Soros or David Brock caring about your brain infarcts from regurgitating 25/8 fake propaganda.

    2. Alt-Right is a convenient term of the left to pin blame of violence on the right such as classical liberals mainstream republicans and non anarchic libertarians. But who is the alt-right and what do they believe? Take note of two features that characterizes a founder of the alt-right,: socialism and national healthcare, Doesn’t that sound like a leftist? Doen’t that sound like AOC?

“Richard’s [Spencer] current beliefs could be characterized as a combination of social conservatism, identitarianism, socialism, environmentalism, and pan-Europeanism. On the democratic left-to-right political scale, many of his political beliefs would probably mirror those of the M5S (Five Star) Party in Italy — being classified as either left or right-wing nationalism. He favors national healthcare, universal basic income, and state control of some industry. At the same time, he opposes excessive “degeneracy and decadence” in society, in the form of pedophilia, transgender movements, and feminism. He is staunchly anti-immigration, and proposes the creation of a “homeland or ethnostate” for whites in North America. Overall, he is deliberately vague about many of the details of his policy proposals.

Who is a founder of the alt-right?

“Taking the helm as President of the National Policy Institute in 2011, the now 40-year-old Spencer first coined the term ‘alt-right’ in the late 2000s.”

      https://www.muckrakerpolitics.com/2018/11/richard-spencers-alt-right-ideology/

What we are seeing is great confusion as to what represents the right and what represents the left. The left is violent and racially inclined. Look at intersectionality and the tribalism of the left. The left is not talking about inclusion. They are talking about levels of inclusion. They differ from Richard Spencer not in their racist or sexual dislikes but rather who they are targetting. Spencer targets a certain group and the left targets a different group. THE TRUTH IS WE SHOULDN’T BE TARGETTING ANYONE.

      1. Main Stream Centrist Republicans are Constitutional Centrists. The Rest are one form or another of Republicans in name only and come across as the ‘wrong’ wing of the far left extremists which is to say their right wing. They fit the description only if you accept the center as the hyphen between Marx and Engels. Our center IS and always has been The Constitution.

        1. Most Republicans have little backbone backbone. I don’t know what mainstream Republican means since many that some people consider mainstream haven’t done much of anything. I agree with placing the Constitution at the forefront and that should reflect in everyone’s actions but it doesn’t.

        2. Michael, then no doubt you are concerned with Trump’s disregard for the Constitution in his numerous executuve actions, attempt to usurp the Congressional power of the purse using a phony emergency declaration, his violations of the emoluments clause, use of his executive powers to go after private businesses and individuals, his intimidation of witnesses, and failure to to have his staff confirmed by Congress by the use of interim appointments. He didn’t steal the SC justice seat – that was the GOP Senators who willfully failed their constitutional duties for partisan purposes – but he took advantage of that theft.

    3. Anon1: thanks for these stats. Most if not all of the comments here either adduce the violent left anomaly or avoid the facts altogether showing where along the political spectrum the greatest threat of political violence is to be found.

    4. LOL!!! ADL, Moron, that’s another Anti-American platform just like the Discredited SPLC.

    5. oh, you guys must not have been around for the war of 84.

if “racists” get really pissed, there’ won’t be any mistaking it

      that hasn’t happened, yet

  10. What do you think?

I think you’re operating under the assumption that the left has procedural principles which influence action. That, of course, is false. What they have is a series of improvisations which provide specious excuses for whatever they do or have done, and, if they’re at a loss, it’s down the memory hole with James T. Hodgekinson.

    1. People like you, TIA, are part of the problem. For all of your talk, you’re divisive and mean, at heart. Try being part of a unifying solution. And when you need a new moniker, “insufferable” would suit you nicely.

  11. What do I think?

JT, you are going to lose your liberal card if you keep attacking these glorious fighters for freedom.

In fact, lefties will start calling you a Nazi soon enough if you keep supporting free speech and criticizing leftist excesses.

    antonio

    1. Antonio, did you ever hear the left attacking Dershowitz except when he went off the Democratic Plantation? We have blacks that are praised like Sharpton and Brown even though the former caused riots through his lies and the latter attacked people and the police. But if those blacks like Clarence Thomas or Thomas Sowell go off the Democratic Plantation they are pummelled.

  12. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) had little to say Monday when asked to condemn the domestic terror attack on an ICE detention facility by an Antifa activist.

“Will you condemn Antifa for the attack in Washington?” their reporter asked the freshman congresswoman as she walked with her aides.

    “We’ll be making a statement,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/aoc-refuses-to-condemn-attack-on-ice-center

        1. YNOT, you didn’t read what her chief of staff said? I understand. Your reading skills are suboptimal. You can go back to mopping the floors now.

    1. AOC and the White Supremecists have a lot in common. Both seem to hold animus to a different group. Neither judges a person by his character rather they both judge people based on the color of their skin and their sexual preferences. Both are wrong. To the former Biden is too white and to the latter Obama is too black. What a crazy bunch of people.

      1. Trying to set a record for stupidity but that is a daily phenomenon with you.

        1. YNOT is on a roll today. He’s got the mop in his hand but the pail is rolling down the hall. Not too bright YNOT.

  13. This is just confirmation of what most Americans know – CNN is biased, partisan, and dishonest.

If you are a Pinko, you watch CNN for confirmation bias.

If you are a conservative, you read the WAPO because it has nuggets of truth in the bias (and is a pretty good news source).

    1. WAPO is the same as NYT or CNN etc if there are nuggests of truth they are twisted to suit anti Constitutionalist pro Marxist Leninist dogma and is in NO WAY a pretty good news source as they or any of their equally twisted supporters be credited with any morals, values, ethics or ability to be truthful as it pertains to Constitutional Centrists and decent citizens.
