“Render To God And Trump”: Ralph Reed Rallies Evangelicals To Support Trump As A “Moral Obligation”

Faith and Freedom Coalition founder Ralph Reed is out with a book that was written in part to rally evangelicals behind President Donald Trump. it was the original title of the book that first caught my notice, “Render to God and Trump.” It is, of course, a reference to the well-known biblical verse, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” The use of the Matthew 22 is curious in that Caesar was ultimately brought to his end as a dictator by the hands of multiple Senators. Not exactly the image that one would relish going into a possible impeachment.

Reed has long defended Trump from the the scandalous “Access Hollywood” tape to the payment of the hush money to a former Playboy bunny and a porn star. Reed insists that evangelicals must support Trump as a moral imperative. The title has been changed to “For God and Country: The Christian case for Trump.”

The book seeks to assure evangelicals that they are not “political prostitutes and hypocrites” for supporting Trump, who have been accused of affairs and morally questionable conduct for many years.

The problem with rendering onto Caesar is that he had an abrupt end to his career with the help of his own former allies. The White House will only have to hope that the President has no reason to utter  “Et tu, Romney?” or other defectors.

  1. Nice to see some practicing of the First Amendment or at least part of it. But back then the Senators you were referring to Socialist Democrats. The description fit the picture.

  2. The White House is a building not a human. It does not have “hope” and nor does it have fear. Trump on the other hand has nothing to fear but fear itself. What is a “porn star”? What is a “Trumpster”? Why is abortion an issue in America? Why can’t we just tie socks in the right place at the right time to avoid knock ups? In days of old they did that. It was before rubbers were invented.

  3. If one is sufficiently delusional to believe in an omnipotent and omniscient supernatural being to which one can pray, one can believe anything such as that Trump is a stable genius!

  4. And the Muslims are saying:

“The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him. I will fight to see that vicious beast go down into the lake of fire prepared for him from the beginning that he never rise again to give any innocent black man, woman or child the hell that he has delighted in pouring on us for 400 years.”

    – Louis Farrakhan, 2002.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That any Alien being a free white person, who shall have resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for the term of two years, may be admitted to become a citizen thereof

  5. Ralphy is a power hungry man. He sounds as if he is a Family Member. That group believes (well says they believe) that god puts people in power in every nation, of every religion. It does not matter how cruel, murderous, evil or corrupt the person is–that’s god’s choice so they are o.k.! Oh, and muslims, jews and hindus (for example) are all really christians!! Who knew??? So, for example, MBS is god’s choice for leader! Yeah God!!! God can really pick out some great guys!!! WOW, pedophiles and war criminals! What’s not to like?

I wish that christians would think through the implication of supporting any candidate who commits cruel, evil and unconstitutional acts. I think a lot of christians, too many of them, like power. They are willing to sacrifice their own conscience for a crumb of false power. There are clear warnings against doing that in the bible but those warnings never seem to go anywhere when it comes to a choice of being a person of conscience or grabbing a little false power.

If I were a believer I’d say there will be hell to pay!

  6. So, Evangelicals are equating Trump to God, which he has done himself, and they wonder why people don’t respect them. What does Trump owe this country? Integrity, not trying to leverage military aid appropriated by Congress for political purposes, behaving in a measured, mature and dignified manner commensurate with the title of POTUS, being able to accept criticism without resorting to schoolyard taunts, consulting with military experts and allies before pulling support from the Kurds who helped us contain ISIS, setting them up for slaughter on a whim, not caging people for seeking asylum, not praising White Supremacists, not bragging about sexual assaults? What does the deity known as Trump owe us? Apparently nothing, since his supporters are disciples, not rational people voting for what is in the US’s best interests.

  7. I’m sure Reed feels it’s a moral obligation to keep his jet fueled and paid for by the suckers that the christian right has fleeced for years.

  8. Hell Hath No Fury

Profiles Of Women With ‘Me Too’ Complaints Against Trump

On June 25 of this year, ABC News compiled these photos and profiles of 17 women who allege Trump forced himself upon them with unwanted sexual advances. Interestingly a large ratio of these women have a certain quality: non-ethnic White blondes with big hair. A sort of Candace Bergen / Cybill Shepherd kind of look.

It is bizarre that Evangelicals, supporting Donald Trump, would ignore these well-publicized complaints and regard Trump as a champion of Christian virtues. This illustrates how morally bankrupt the Evangelical movement has become. Their opposition to abortion is so intense they have made a bargain with the devil to outlaw the practice.

    1. I wonder how many abortions Trump personally paid for? 🙀He only became anti-abortion when he was trolling for right-wing votes.

    2. You don’t get the old stories about King David and so forth

the idea of having a saint as a leader is not “Biblical” if you’re reading the OT that’s for sure

      1. Kurtz, Back then, survival was paramount for the Israelites. So an imperfect warrior-King was the right man for the job. That’s where the confusion came in when Jesus came along. The Jews wanted and expected a leader who would defeat the Romans. Instead they got someone who told them to turn the other cheek. That was unacceptable and they rejected him. They didn’t understand that Jesus was there for all of humanity, not just the Jews and their immediate problem of being colonized by the Romans, who for the most part were reasonable rulers and let them practice their religion in peace.

        1. ok that’s fine, i understand that context. But evangelicals are more focused on the OT anyways. I guess that was my point.

  9. Romney was no Brutus.

It’s vote Republican, or vote for Socialism, high taxes, and less jobs. It really is that simple.

    1. Brutus actually was an ally of Julius Caesar. Romney has never been an ally of Trump. He should just clam up and stay out of the way for the duration.

  10. Idiots use religion as a club all the time:

Remembering Madeleine Albright quip: “theres a special place in hell”

    1. “Special place in hell for women who don’t help each other?” And yet, feminists savage conservative women. If they don’t vote as the Left tells them, there is no limit to the slurs heaped upon them. I personally saw “feminist” women threaten to disown conservative women unless they voted for Hillary. Conservative women are hounded in restaurants, unfriended on social media, harassed, called vile names, water bottles thrown at them, and chased from restaurants by none other than feminists and the Left.

So, speaking and voting your mind is only OK if you vote Left. I guess Madeleine Albright has her spot in hell reserved.

      1. With 51% of Americans supporting impeachment and removal from office, there is no “left” to complain about. That is a convenient Fox News term they throw around casually to describe persons opposed to Trump. Those wanting Trump gone include Republicans and conservatives. Your arguments are silly: how does anyone know how another person votes, and so therefore be able to attack them? Assuming I wanted to harass a “conservative woman” in a restaurant or elsewhere, how would I identify her? Bleached blonde hair? Gaudy jewelry? What? Who are the “feminists” and “the Left” who are hurling water bottles at “conservative women”?

If you are speaking about Sarah Sanders getting heckled at a restaurant, she has it coming. She is a pathological liar, and deserves a public drubbing, but no one ever threw a water bottle at her. She just might melt.

    2. Personally, I think God is more qualified to decide who belongs in hell than any human being. It is ironic when politicians threaten hellfire to those who don’t vote as they are told.

  11. Reed has tainted everything he’s ever touched. Trump would be well advised to keep away from him.

    1. Reed is a sycophant. He’s trying for coattails. He’s always seemed creepy. But he may point a proper direction in his book. Not that I’m going to bother reading it. Enough on Reed already!

  12. Well dang, my comment disappeared! Anyway, on to something new, this ought to be a good article for here:
    ———–
One of the many news-making revelations in Ronan Farrow’s upcoming book, Catch and Kill, is that he received pressure from Hillary Clinton to back off his reporting on Harvey Weinstein.

The far-left Hollywood Reporter, which received an advanced copy of the book, naturally buried this bombshell under no fewer than 20 paragraphs and a headline that says nothing about Madame Clinton.

Weinstein also attempted to leverage his long-term relationship with Hillary Clinton to pressure Farrow, he writes. In summer 2017, while Farrow was trying to lock down an interview with Clinton for his foreign policy book — while also still working on the Weinstein story — he received a call from Clinton’s publicist, Nick Merrill, who told him that the “big story” Farrow was working on was a “concern for us.” Then, in September 2017, according to an email cited in the book, Weinstein wrote to Deborah Turness, the ex-president of NBC News who now runs NBC News International, to propose a docuseries on Clinton. “Your Hillary doc series sounds absolutely stunning,” Turness responded.

    1. Squeeky – at least she was kind enough not to have him Arkancided. 😉

  13. Turley is confusing his caesars. “Caesar” was not an individual, but a title, referring to a Roman emperor who was a successor of Augustus Caesar. There are a number of caesars mentioned in the New Testament. Luke 2:1 Caesar Augustus. Luke 3:1 Tiberius Caesar. Paul appealed to Caesar Nero in Acts 25:11, 12 and 21. It was Julius Caesar was stabbed by the Senators in 44 BC, about 129 years before the Book of Matthew was written in 85 AD. The Latin word Caesar was later adopted as Kaiser in German and Czar in Russian.

    1. Agreed. And this post is a bit creepy with its recurring references to Trump’s murder! I doubt Prof. Turley actually wrote it.

  14. The evangelical case for Trump is more about the fear of the Democrat alternative than supporting Trump’s imperfect life. Paraphrasing Seane Trende’s observations:

During the Obama reign of error Democrats and liberals: booed the inclusion of God in their platform at the 2012 convention; endorsed a regulation that would allow students confused about their gender to use the bathroom and locker room corresponding to their “identity”; attempted to force small businesses to cover drugs they believe induce abortions; attempted to force nuns to provide contraceptive coverage; forced Brendan Eich to step down as chief executive officer of Mozilla due to his opposition to homosexual marriage; fined a small Christian bakery over $140,000 for refusing to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding; vigorously opposed a law in Indiana that would provide protections against similar regulations – despite having overwhelmingly supported similar laws when they protected Native American religious rights – and then scoured the Indiana countryside trying to find a business that would be affected by the law before settling upon a small pizza place in the middle of nowhere and harassing the owners. In 2015, the United States solicitor general suggested that churches might lose their tax exempt status if they refused to perform homosexual marriages. In 2016, Hillary Clinton endorsed repealing the Hyde Amendment, thereby endorsing federal funding for elective abortions.

With Trump, evangelicals have a higher likelihood of getting judges, justices and policies that reflect their values than what the Democrats have to offer.

    1. “Politics is the art of compromise.” And though Trump is erratic and truly does seem unbalanced at times, in his periods of lucidity his policies are preferable to the lefties who are completely crazy all the time. If Kamala or Cory, Bernie or Lizzie are elected, this country will become one open borders, sh!t and needle-strewn homeless camp. You want to see what the lefties will bring you, go visit San Francisco. Just be careful where you step and wear a surgical mask so you don’t catch hepatitis.

  15. The Dems are the kings of intersectionality and constantlyu manipulate groups in to believing they owe their votes to Dems based on facile beliefs. If you are African American you must vote Dem even though 60% of abortions are black babies and the black community is obviously worse off after many years of Dem social policy … but vote Dem; if you are a legal immigrant who waited 10 years for legal status and followed the law you must support the illegal immigrants who break the law, jump the line and take your jobs … but vote Dem. If you are a woman, you must vote Dem because you want the right to kill your baby if you inconveniently get pregnant. Dems have spent years not just going to the churches and preaching but bringing busloads of members to the polls and helping them vote Democrat. Good job Ralph Reed – play the same rules!

  16. “The problem with rendering onto Caesar is that he had an abrupt end to his career with the help of his own former allies. The White House will only have to hope that the President has no reason to utter “Et tu, Romney?” or other defectors.”

Of course, Caesar conquered the known Western world and ushered in Pax Romana gaining cultural immortality before his untimely demise. Seems a fair trade-off and a deal I’d take for a few grisly moments in the Forum.
