“I’m The Reason There Is An Impeachment Going On”: Biden Addresses Son’s Dealings . . . Sort Of

I recently wrote a column on the growing taboo in the media over mentioning the actual facts, or even name, of Hunter Biden and his dealings in the Ukraine. Yesterday, former Vice President Joe Biden addressed the issue . . . sort of. Once again, he was not pushed to deal with the specifics of the dealings or the overwhelming view that the contract was a raw effort to influence him through his family. Instead, Biden continued the mantra that there is no proof of wrongdoing and then added that “no one — no one — has asserted my son did a single thing wrong.”

That is obviously untrue. Many of us have suggested that Hunter Biden engaged in a classic method of profiteering off his father’s public office. Even stranger was Biden’s claim that “I’m the reason there is impeachment going on.” Biden has continued to make statements that are untrue, including his claim to being one of the earliest opponents of the Iraq War, but this one is particularly baffling. Biden was one of the last major Democrats to support impeachment and seemed to have no impact on the public debate or moves in Congress.

For his part, Hunter Biden has declared that he will step down from a controversial Chinese company at the end of this month and avoid further foreign dealings if his father is elected president.

Joe Biden seems to ignore a variety of columns and articles that his own campaign has objected to in writing while demanding that the media refuse to air the allegations against Hunter Biden. Instead Biden simply declares: “No one — no one — has asserted my son did a single thing wrong. No one has asserted that I have done anything wrong except the lying President.”

Biden added “I can tell you now, if I am your president — next president — I’m going to build on the squeaky clean, transparent environment that we had in the Obama-Biden White House.” That itself is a rather odd statement since his son’s controversial dealing in Ukraine and China occurred during his administration as did controversial payments to the Clintons and their foundation from foreign interests. That would not exactly be the model that many of us have in mind.

One welcomed pledge was not to have any family members working in the White House. I have been critical of the nepotism shown by Trump in the placement of his daughter and son-in-law in positions of power.

There does not appear to be any meaningful change in the coverage, which largely coincides with the Biden campaign demand that the media decline to air the specific allegations of the use of such contracts with family members for unethical or corrupt purposes. Paying children or spouses has been a favorite form of influence peddling in Washington. The elite has largely kept that loophole open with bipartisan support as family members cash in on access to or influence with powerful politicians. Most of us consider that wrongdoing where or not it is prosecuted. It remains a corrupt, if legal, practice.

    1. “A top U.S. diplomat and expert on Ukraine testified to Congress yesterday that the Obama administration — with former Vice President Joe Biden as its point man — orchestrated the firing of the Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating a company connected to the Biden family, sources familiar with the testimony told The Federalist.

The testimony of George Kent, a State Department official who works on the agency’s Ukraine portfolio, directly contradicts claims that the Obama administration was merely following the lead of the so-called international community in demanding the firing of Viktor Shokin, a controversial Ukrainian prosecutor who was reportedly investigating Burisma, a global energy company long suspected of corruption and money laundering. In 2014, Burisma paid Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, tens of thousands of dollars to sit on its board despite the younger Biden’s complete lack of expertise or professional experience running a multi-national oil and gas concern.”

  1. Rand Paul, Andrew Guliani, Senator Chaney,
Hundreds of others who got jobs in and out of government due to name and connections. John Quincy Adams anybody? Nothing new here.
Let’s not attempt to scuttle a nomination due to this normative behavior.
You think Mika Brzeziniski would have gotten
    her job without dad?
Please, no ex post facto shamming.

    1. Rand Paul and Liz Cheney are elected officials. They’re in office because people voted for them.

You think Mika Brzeziniski would have gotten her job without dad?

She had a perfectly ordinary career progression for 17 years. Her father had a consequential government job for 4 years, ending 9 years before she got her first broadcasting job.

  2. Yoohoo! Mr Biden! I assert that Hunter Biden did something wrong!

He sure is a sly one. I suppose what’s worked in the past is keep repeating the lie, with a smile, until it sinks into the subconscious of his audience. He is a member of the Teflon Class.

I wonder if that coating’s starting to scratch…

  3. Biden is the reason their should have been impeachment proceedings. But the crime was exposed afterr the cut off which is ‘out of office’ After all he’s just the other gender version of Clinton.

  4. The first witness for Trump should be Joe Biden and second would be Hunter Biden. Oh, and Schiff is a fact witness in the impeachment.

  5. JT: “I recently wrote a column on the growing taboo in the media over mentioning the actual facts, or even name, of Hunter Biden and his dealings in the Ukraine.”

Oh the irony. Turley won’t mention the fact that a mere 2 months before Hunter got that fat contract from China, Hunter was dishonorably discharged from the Navy(that he had only recently joined) for cocaine. And there’s much more.

  6. Biden added “I can tell you now, if I am your president — next president — I’m going to build on the squeaky clean, transparent environment that we had in the Obama-Biden White House.”

THAT is the Democrat playbook: say something totally untrue, then your dutiful media propagandists repeat it over and over, your media propagandists don’t ask you questions, your media propagandists don’t push back on your blatant lies and misstatements, your media propagandist prop you up, and prop you up, and prop up your lies, then your media propagandists attack Republicans and accuse THEM of what YOU are doing…..and repeat.

LIE: Obama/Biden administration was scandal-free, transparent, skeaky clean.

TRUTH: Obama/Biden administration will go down as one of the MOST CORRUPT, least transparent administrations we’ve ever seen.

  7. The longer Biden stays in the race the better off we all are. Our country needs to hear about his obvious corruption from now until election day. The corruption, at varying degrees, is everywhere in our society so it makes me happy to see everyone pointing fingers. Let’s get it all out in the open. Hopefully our political system is finally forced to face the truth and act.

    1. “The longer Biden stays in the race the better off we all are. Our country needs to hear about his obvious corruption from now until election day.”

Yes! Joe Biden said “I’m not going anywhere!” Promise?

  8. “Biden added “I can tell you now, if I am your president — next president — I’m going to build on the squeaky clean, transparent environment that we had in the Obama-Biden White House.””

Look, lying worked exceeding well for the current occupant of the WH. Why not give complete untruth telling a try and see if works for Biden?

      1. Trump released an edited “summary” of a single phone call. Do you really believe that was his administration’s only “dealing” with Ukraine?

        1. Brad:

In the land of the blind…

Trump is leading your boy in both integrity and openness.

It is obvious why Biden is heading for his third failed presidential attempt.

          1. I typed something less than fawning about Trump and suddenly Biden is “my boy”.

This reaction suggests your indoctrination is complete . Sad.

  9. Guy is toast.

Why waste time on a dead man walking,?

Biden is just like every other lying politician; time to recognize that he is a sleazeball.

I wish that the Pinkos defending him would be honest enough to admit the obvious.

    1. The guy was toast or over toasted years ago. What I can’t understand is why Democrats didn’t recognize that years ago

      1. I’m wagering the polling reflects name recognition. Recall Jeb! Bush was leading too. Biden has attempted two previous runs. He left one race in humiliation when his various buffooneries were made public and he sank without a trace during the other. He really brings nothing to the table. He gets better press than did Dan Quayle, because journalists are Democratic operatives with bylines. Intellectually, the two are equals. Quayle isn’t a sociopath and his children aren’t known to have gruesome personal tastes.

        1. With respect to Biden, DSS, I think “he’s a nice guy” type of appearance, loss of his wife, his smile and the fact that he was more a follower than a doer has kept his image positive for a lot of Americans that do not follow politics closely. That is ending while we speak. He never was anyone with substance. Well before he got into the race I thought he would do best by staying out of it while all the candidates killed one another. He could then enter as the compromise with Warren or Harris as VP.

He is in now and getting beaten up though those on the left might not yet see it. They will and when he is gone it will be Warren’s to lose. Of course a new candidate may enter. Landslide victory for Trump is a possibility despite the press and Democrats teaming up to defeat him with lies and innuendo.

          1. His wife and daughter died in a car wreck 47 years ago. Hardly anyone outside of Delaware had heard of him at the time. He’s not a follower. He had a reputation ca. 1986 as a comical showboat and motormouth. Part of what sank his candidacy in 1987 was videos of him bragging about his academic record (when that record was embarrassing).

I have no clue what Delaware voters ever saw in them. The only close race he ever had was in 1972. Delaware was quite competitive up until 2000 or thereabouts. (Nowadays, it is deep blue. No clue why).

            1. “Hardly anyone outside of Delaware”

DSS, That is where he was Senator for all those years. Can you tell me the significant legislation that he authored and pushed through over the 36 years he was in the Senate. Not nearly what 36 years would suggest so I will repeat what I said even if you wish to disagree. “he was more a follower than a doer”.

          2. Well before he got into the race I thought he would do best by staying out of it while all the candidates killed one another. H

Someone once offered in regard to our wretched nominating system this observation: “you ever wonder why all commercial aircraft look alike? there’s an engineering solution that works.”

You’d have to go back to 1976 to find an occasion where someone ran a competitive primary and caucus campaign entering the fray less than a year before the general election, and back to 1968 to find an example of someone winning after a late entry. (The delegate selection rules were entirely different 50 years ago). Rudolph Giuliani’s staff sought to innovate by paying little attention to early contests and sinking money into Florida (“we’re either the smartest guys in the room or the dumbest guys in the room”). You can see how that worked out for him.

People are also fantasizing about a brokered convention delivering the nomination to Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. That’ll happen – if Warren, Sanders, Booty-gig, and Harris all start having bizarre accidents like characters in The Omen.

            1. “You’d have to go back to 1976 to find an occasion…”

DSS, Go back and find an occasion where a man this old and seemingly feeble was fit enough to fight for his own party and then a grueling national election. I didn’t think he had the physical or mental capacity to do so when he announced and apparently that was a correct assessment.

                1. DSS, that is why I thought he would be better off holding back and get the support another way so that his race would be shorter with broader support.

  10. Mespo, if you know of evidence for Joe “installing” Hunter in any business while VP – that’s what you allege – how about sharing it? “Alleging” by partisans that has been debunked by the WSJ – among others – amounts nothing.

    1. Recall it’s investigate first then indict. Let’s get all the phone call transcripts between Sleepy Joe and Ukraine and China and then we can prove what our eyes see.

        1. IMHO, Yes, I am sure the Trump kids are using their papa to profit just like Hunter did. So yes, if there was influencing peddling then by all means prosecute.

Anon1, could you please point to some credentials that Hunter Biden had to be on the Board of Burisma?

            1. Sure mespo, not only do we know all the Presidents familiy’s business details, and how his children all earned their stripes working outside the family, but it is impossible to be corrupt unless you’re on a foreign companies board of directors.

              Everyone knows those things.

              1. Anon1 — So then, Damn….that Hunter Biden is like the International businessman master of all Business…he goes from credit banking…to oil and gas….to running billion dollar Hedge funds. All while doing crack.

That’s quite something. Can’t wait to see his ABC softball interview.

              2. Anon1 — Hunter Biden is resigning from his lucrative “positions” both in Ukraine….and now China…because his father MIGHT BECOME president (don’t worry Hunter, he won’t)….

So now they are saying it just wouldn’t be right for Hunter to keep those positions…if Dad may move to the White House…

Even though we keep hearing Joe say his son did nothing “wrong”….

So then….Anon1….why was it okay for Hunter Biden to be doing all this WHILE his father was Vice President? THAT was okay? But no good if Dad is POTUS? Does that make sense to you?

Because any doofus can see that *on its face* it is corrupt and wrong !!!

              3. CNN tells viewers that Hunter Biden was “just serving investors abroad.” Did you get that? Just “serving investors”….abroad.

Hunter did nothing wrong. Got it?

Nothing to see there with Hunter and dad Joe Biden. No siree.
Instead? CNN devotes ALL of its air time and attention to talking about all the money the Trump kids are making in the Trump Organization!!

No, CNN, the Trump kids did NOT make MORE money than Hunter Biden raked in while cashing in on his dad’s name to do nothing but crack and hookers while raking in well over $50k a MONTH and well over a BILLION from Chinese banks while Daddy was Vice President.

CNN is pure propaganda. Pure Propaganda trash. Who the hell watches that garbage except the people forced to watch the TV screens in airports because CNN pays for it?

Someone needs to do something about cancelling CNN’s airport contracts. It is poisoning America. And the world with its trash.

            1. Michael Aarethun – did the Ukrainians have a strong porn industry while Hunter was on the board?

          1. Sure. Great name for window dressing. Done all the time domestically and internationally and neither illegal or corrupt by itself.

Do you really think Nick Saban knows anything about home insurance?

            1. Right Anon, a coke head that was dishonerably discharged from the Navy. His name is window dressing with payments of over a million dollars. No one but a fool will buy that. What they will pay for is window dressing for the title of the Vice President of the United States whose special mission coincides nicely with the ones looking for special access.

        2. The Trump kids were in business, in the private sector, doing very well, long before their father got into politics. Hunter Biden, Paul Pelosi, Kerry-Heinz, Chelsea Clinton, etc are all profiting off of their politician parents. Hunter Biden (and the rest of them) became wealthy by cashing in on his father’s political office and for no other reason.

If what Hunter Biden was doing was above board, why would he resign from the Chinese-backed fund he’s running? For appearances? Sure.

      1. Can I just be the first to say that sometimes ppl say stuff on the phone, and they say one thing, but they mean another…or there are multiple interpretations as to to what one said.

    2. Anon, stop drawing conclusions based on a one sided view point. There has been significant media attention on Hunter and Joe Biden’s actions that appear corrupt and likely are. Many have placed such evidence in front of your eyes, but, as is your choice, you continue to deny the existence of even that evidence that was totally visible to the rest of us.

        1. “No evidence in this one either.”

This is known as game playing. The evidence Anon apparently looks for is evidence of conviction rather than the evidence that is used in a court case meant to determine innocence or guilt. I had said “There has been significant media attention on Hunter and Joe Biden’s actions that appear corrupt and likely are.”

No, there has yet to be a conviction, but there is plenty of evidence that can be used in court to get one. Anon continues to turn a blind eye to that possibility when if the question was directed at an enemy Anon would be making the claim of absolute guilt. This is a great example of the hypocrisy of the left.

      1. OTOH, “collusion has been proved”. I’m recalling ca. 1991 reading an article by a Czech writer who said that after 1965, the only people in Czechoslovakia who took Communist discourse seriously were “mentally-disabled people and ‘a certain sort of people…'” Anon1 would have made a passable petty commissar ca. 1977. (Natacha would fit into the ‘mentally-disabled’ category).

The problem with liberal politics is that you have a few wonks like Harold Pollack and a few geezers like Alan Dershowitz, and the rest of it is just a series of excuses for inchoate aggression. Given that they’re clueless about themselves and just about everything else, they fancy the rest of us are motivated by ‘hate’. The projection and the humbug goes all the way down.

      2. No, I wasn’t talking about Biden or Hunter. They’re toast for sure. I was talking about people in general. Especially narcs, they’ll make your head spin on the phone, once you get off…youll go…wth did he/she mean by that…and the narc NPD person knows exactly what they meant…its more a tangential thing.

I do think Biden is a Narc, but I think Trump is a Narc too.

In fact, I’m 99.99 % certain you can’t reach to tippy top of any field without being a narc to a degree.

But they come in all flavors. Benign Narcs are fine. It’s the malignant ones you have to watch out for…

And then the difference between an overt and covert.

I prefer overts bc at least they stab you in the front chest and not the back.

Coverts smile and wave and blow you a kiss until you turn around…

  11. “Instead Biden simply declares: “No one — no one — has asserted my son did a single thing wrong. No one has asserted that I have done anything wrong except the lying President.”
    *********************

No Sleepy Joe, a lot of folks are asserting you’ve done something wrong by becoming the lead man in China and Ukraine and then installing your unqualified kid in various corporate gold mines where his economic position soars. Then quite coincidentally Ukraine oligarchs and Chinese business interests suddenly get what they want after shelling out close to $1.8 Billion.

If you don’t think that stinks of graft and payola, you really have lost it.
