The University of Wyoming May Lose Superman Papers Because Donor Does Not Like Liz Cheney

Rep. Liz Cheney has been much in the news with controversial statements like her suggestion that the Turkish invasion of Syria was due to the impeachment inquiry by the Democrats. Many of us were critical of that comment but one person seems to have taken his anger with Cheney out on . . . the University of Wyoming. That’s right, Connecticut-based author and psychologist Hank Weisinger has threatened to take back his father’s collection of papers related to the Superman comic series because he is upset that the state has Cheney among her elected officials.

Hank Weisinger is the son of Mort Weisinger, who was the editor of the “Superman” comic book series from DC Comics. The Casper Star-Tribune has reported that he is now demanding the return of the papers from the university’s American Heritage Center. His reason? The Associated Press has reported that Weisinger does not want his father’s papers at a university whose state is represented by Cheney.

It is a truly bizarre connection to draw in punishing a university for a politician elected by voters in a given state. It is not clear what Weisinger expects. Should the University violate state law and actively run a political campaign to oust Cheney on a “Save Superman” platform?

Weisinger needs to seriously take time with the comics from his father, particularly where Superman says “There is a right and wrong in the Universe and that distinction is not hard to make.”

  1. milord, you do realize that the word you were correcting “distain” is an actual word though not as commonly used. The phrase “have brought intellectual distain (dishonor) upon my state” makes sense.

  2. Too many weasel words in this article. Cheney’s words were not “controversial.” They were f_king wrong.

  3. Heck, if we are going to punish the University of Wyoming for the fact that Wyoming has been inflicting the Cheneys on us, let’s make the punishment real, like storing all nuclear waste from US reactors in the student cafeteria at the University of Wyoming, or requiring all University students and employees to eat at McDonalds once a day.

  4. Funny how Trump Trash are complaining about Weisinger’s petulant decision. Not only does he every right to do it, I am thrilled he is punishing a red state. Trump Trash love to demonize blue states. They can dish out the hate and invective but cant take it. Get over it. It’s also something old yellow stain Trump would do.

    1. Ssponn – I just think that Superman’s papers belong either in Metropolis or the Fortress of Solitude.

      1. “Men are qualified for civil liberty, in exact proportion to their disposition to put chains upon their appetites…. Society cannot exist unless a controlling power be placed somewhere; and the less of it there is within, the more there must be without. It is ordained in the eternal constitution of things that men intemperate minds cannot be free. Their passions forge their fetters.”

Thank you for those kind words of objectivity and non-irony. Visits from the town glazier frequent this house it would seem.

    3. Complaining??? No, we are laughing our a$$es off at the silly twerp! I mean, Weisinger’s playing a Bizarro World character, to wit: “Me punish Wyoming! Bad State! Me make Yellowstone Volcano go boom and state be livable again!”

    4. “Not only does he every right to do it”

I am sure you wish you could bury your entire statement after second thoughts but I wondered why you thought Weisinger has a right to demand the return of the papers. Do you think he has valid ownership? If so, why do you believe that?

  5. Way to drag Superman into Leftist bigotry against conservatives. That’ll teach this woman not to speak her mind!

    Ironic.

  6. For those of us who value free speech, thought, expression, and decision-making, there is a simple reply to Hank Weisinger: Thank you for having us hold your father’s papers for a time, please come, retrieve, and shove them in a more compatible location.

  7. Chuck, after reading what you said to me I thought when I read your response to mespo I would hear some intellectually stimulating discussion. Alas, that did not happen for all you did was repeat the same slime we have heard over and over again. Nothing of substance. You are like a bad odor that dissipates into the air.

      1. “And you are an idiot who won’t shut up.”

…And what are you YNOT? You make these utterances meant only to insult and not enlighten. That seems to be the extent of your abilities. Keep them coming so that though you are brain dead we can see you are still alive.

IMO, Liz Cheney is exactly correct. In the past members of both parties have closed ranks where dangerous foreign affairs could threaten US interests but over the years the Democrats have been notorious about placing party before country. As the left has become more and more anti-American and anti-American culture we have seen a divergence from that philosophy. Let’s just say that the leftist Democrats of today are like Kriptonite that all good Americans should protect themselves against,

  9. His papers, his choice.

As to Ms. Cheney, imagine suggesting that a President would give a green light to genocide to distract from an impeachment. We don’t have to we have one! But, of course, Trump’s decision to give the green likght wasn’t just about distraction was it?
    Sometimes things are just wrong!

    1. Good point, Holmes. You could flip the argument and say Trump was feeling more rash than usual when he green-lit the Turkish invasion.

  10. Is this what the psychiatrists call indirect aggression? Did Liz Chaney even go to the University of Wyoming?

    1. Her father did, attending fitfully between 1960 and 1965 ‘ere being awarded an MA degree. None of the rest of the family did so.

Her father has neither more nor less of a connection with the University than he did when the papers were donated. She herself has no connection at all bar that she’s likely visited the campus and perhaps done constituent service favors for the University when requested to do so. His complaint is bizarre, and, given that the guy’s not young, one would have to guess a sign of approaching dementia.

  11. His threat is similar the fascist tendencies Democrats have shown with their: support of Always-FA, the ridiculous National Vote initiative that negates voters in a state, Dems desire to pack SCOTUS, Democrats unlawful fake impeachment hearings that they are doing behind closed doors, their smear campaigns and their use of children as arbiters of knowledge and truth. Fascist, entitled Democrats like Weisinger are the new normal that is harming civil society, possibly irreparably.

  12. I thought Batman killed Superman in that stupid movie a couple of years ago. What are they doing in WY anyway. Shouldn’t the papers be in Metropolis?

  13. “It is a truly bizarre connection to draw in punishing a university for a politician elected by voters in a given state. ***************
The donor is the master of his gift and his will controls. As for the nation that determining good from evil is an easy decision, Superman really needs to read some Aristotle or Nietzsche. Probably not many books about them in Krypton. But now is a good time to start.

    1. One can hardly blame him. This Cheney, as with the other one, is a shameful disgrace to the “Cowboy State.” Both, dumb as a bag of hammers, have brought intellectual distain upon my state and made it an ineffective player in the DC theater. They both make great news, but do nothing for their constituents in so-doing. I have no papers there, but if I did, I would take them elsewhere. Why? Because the University of Wyoming backs the Cheney’s for no reason other than they come from a family of good ole boys, and in Wyoming, that trumps all. Missing Al “Cow Tit” Simpson mightily. He and his father were statesmen, even though I disagreed with them frequently.

      1. I dont know about Liz but I think Dick Cheney was very clever. Perhaps not good, but very cunning.

Simpson is memorable, and he had the guts to say we ought to curtail excess lawful immigration, too

      2. Because the University of Wyoming backs the Cheney’s

        This is a nonsense statement.

Both, dumb as a bag of hammers, have brought intellectual distain upon my state

The elder bag of hammers ran the Department of Defense and the Halliburton Corporations. Looking forward to tales of your exploits in charge of organizations with five and seven digit workforces.

One gets the impression that many commenters take as their inspiration the character “Henry Fool” from the film of that name, muttering to himself in a bar that anyone could win a Nobel.

          1. mespo – did you hear that Greta and her father are going to drive through Mexico?

            1. When I go to Mexico, I rent a car myself at Hertz, and drive around down the Yucatan coast. And I drove 1.5 hours over to Chitchen Itza. I don’t look like a local, I speak the language halfway decent. I was there with someone who looked like a local and was fluent, thigh one person did give him some sh*t, called him an Americana boy, which I got a good laugh out of….

I met some Canadians cruising in a car over to Meridian…

I wouldn’t suggest driving entirely through Mexico. I wouldn’t suggest driving late at night in Mexico.

Be smart, know the law, obey the law, tell the police they can’t mess with you bc you know the game, they’ll leave you alone if you use the right words.

But as always, there are some serious gangs down there. And sometimes ppl do just get unlucky…

            2. I also don’t recommend it for Greta and her father, but I am sure some agreement has already been figured out…so they’ll be fine.

Not a fan of the child abuse on display…it is disturbing to take advantage of a healthy child, let alone one with learning disabilities. The brainwashing is palatable on Greta…someone remove her from her parents and get her a therapist stat. Shell have a better life bc of it.
