President Donald Trump’s personal spiritual adviser, Paula White, has previously made news with prayers that denounced the ‘demonic networks” and stating that Christians who vote against Trump will be called to account before God. A controversial “prosperity gospel” preacher, White will now lead the president’s Faith and Opportunity Initiative. In a prayer on a conference call White proclaimed “Lord, we ask you to deliver our president from any snare, any setup of the enemy, according to Ephesians 6:12. Any persons [or] entities that are aligned against the president will be exposed and dealt with and overturned by the superior blood of Jesus.” What troubles me most is the implied message that opposing Trump a sin or, at a minimum, an act that will bring divine retribution.
The prayer was part of the launching of the One Voice Prayer Movement. White added
“Whether it’s the spirit of Leviathan, a spirit of Jezebel, Abaddon, whether it’s the spirit of Belial, we come against the strongmen, especially Jezebel, that which would operate in sorcery and witchcraft, that which would operate in hidden things, veiled things, that which would operate in deception. We come against it according to your word.”
She then added that opponents of Trump “would be exposed and dealt with and overturned in Jesus’ name.” She referenced again the supernatural forces against Trump and said that Trump supporters “do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this age, hosts of wickedness in heavenly places . . . Stretch out your arm and deliver President Trump and rid him of any bondage the enemy would try to bring against him.”
She is not alone in warning of supernatural anti-Trump forces. Evangelical pastor Perry Stone accused Trump’s opponents of “trying to place hexes and curses on President Trump.”
I hate to be overly mundane but I think that the White House would be better off focusing on the threat from menacing subpoenas not spirits.

Personally, I am not so sure about sorcery to summon spirits. I think evil demonic spirits, most likely exist on some plane. To what extent, I have no idea. Whether it be a possession in the traditional religious sense, or just chaos in your life.

I am more inclined to believe in thought-processes. I.e, I had two light bulbs explode above my head in the kitchen while trying to make a sandwich. No worries, the bulbs were encased in glass, it just made a huge popping noise.
BUT, 2 or 3 days before that, I was thinking in my mind while driving in my car about exploding light bulbs….had no idea why, and couldn’t seem to shake the idea. It came up a few times throughout the day, and I was like gosh…so weird. And then couple days later, it happened.
I think most would just say coincidence, and that’s fine, not going to rule out the most reasonable explanation.

and any sort of person including one who denies free will, apparently day after day, does exercise will, in spite of their own mouthings to the contrary, even as they do something as simple as speak the words denying will and choice.
By exercising will, by praying to the personified forces of chaos, people tune themselves into a certain frequency. Humans are social animals and so if they all start tuning into the same frequency with volitional activities like prayer– and a hex is nothing more than a hateful prayer– then they can harmonize their activities and thus increase the likelihood of achieving desired outcomes.
This is a fancy way of saying: yes, cursing is a real thing. and so is prayer.

You know, I was explaining it as thought processes, but I think pray is a better way to think of it….by focusing, almost OCD style….yeah.
They usually work, i.e., prayed for a corporations electricity to go out for the day, and a week later, it did, and everyone was sent home for the day.

Let’s talk about Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s advice to Obama… The truth is most likely that neither Obama nor Trump is very religious, but both understood the need to acknowledge religion as part of the American voters’ landscape. I doubt very much that Trump is or would be an avid follower of Paula White.

The secular part of the country is quite open about wishing evil upon the president. Severed head in effigy, getting shot in rap music videos…in countless ways millions of people years for terrible atrocities upon the president. Again, this is disconcerting. It can frighten one’s family. The death threats must be constant. It is quite dark. A pastor or priest would address such wide spread ill wishes that can depress ones spirits or peace of mind.
Then there are the myriad attempts at a non violent soft coup. The abuse of power to constantly try to oust a lawfully elected president. One would seek comfort from religion in such times.
It is irritating, however, when religious figures claim that they can promise heaven in exchange for political activity. An extreme form of this is when a human being promises Allah will deliver 72 virgins to those who kill themselves, in order to kill others for Islam. Prosperity gospel is a very controversial subset of some Protestant faiths. Considering that Democrats now openly support Socialism, which history has proven to have killed millions of people, it is understandable to pray for guidance. It is a heavy responsibility to try to protect America from falling prey to the promises of politicians to pillage the rich in order to give everyone else Nirvana. This is a false promise to gain power and destroy individual rights. It always turns out that the government is a meagre provider. Ask anyone on welfare if they’re living the good life off the government.
So pray for wisdom and guidance, and protection from those who wish you harm. Pray for victory. But don’t go that extra step and claim that anyone who opposes Trump on any matter oppose the will of Jesus. It is presumptuous and absurd to reduce Jesus to your beck and call. I imagine the pugnacious tone of her sermons would appeal to Trump’s quarrelsome side, but it is not to my taste at all.

Paul, I don’t get your thinking here. You are correct that people have tried to use hexing, etc. on Trump. It is difficult to think of less effective strategies for opposing Trump, but yes, people are doing this. It is their right. It is not unconstitutional and they are breaking no laws.
In this case, Pastor Paula is skirting the separation of church and state but I don’t think she’s actually broken over the line. Still, many of Trump’s evangelical base take this crap seriously.
The real problem is citizen inability to make reasoned, ethical judgements with integrity. If one takes the bible seriously, Trump has already, hands down, committed actual abominations! So technically speaking, evangelicals who take the bible literally cannot support Trump. Hexers need to consider if they got results, rationally, clearly and with integrity. Our population is ceasing to act with integrity. It’s just win at any costs on both sides. So one side is not really worse or better than another (that is if you even accept that there are two sides instead of two wings of the same bird!).
