Turkeys Take Over Holiday (NJ) Along Toms River

It is something out of a Hitchcock film. Just weeks before Thanksgiving, wild turkeys have taken over a town called Holiday in New Jersey — terrorizing the citizens along the appropriately named Toms River.

Some 60 wild turkeys have been charging people trying to get to their cars and even breaking windows.

The wild turkeys can weigh up to 24 pounds and run up to 20 miles per hour.

Some 46 million turkeys will be eaten on Thanksgiving. Another 22 million will go at Christmas and, surprisingly, 19 million turkeys are eaten at Easter.

Holiday N.J. is a chilling glimpse into the future if we did not hold the line in these holidays. Our Turkey overlords are just waiting to gain the necessary numbers to turn this country into a Fowlocracy.

  1. “Some 46 million turkeys will be eaten on Thanksgiving. Another 22 million will go at Christmas and, surprisingly, 19 million turkeys are eaten at Easter.”

Why’s that surprising? Whole roaster turkeys are cheaper, pound for pound, than the traditional Easter meal of lamb (now, that’s a warped concept, celebrating the Passion and Resurrection of the Lamb of God by eating lamb).

Where are the hunters of New Jersey in the state’s hour of need?

    1. Never mind. New Jersey was taught a sharp lesson about letting hunters run loose.

  2. It a 55 and up senior community called Holiday City not just Holiday…. and yes they are over run with Turkeys right before Thanksgiving??? No they are over run with them all the time, they also are over run with deer and has nothing to do with Christmas right around the corner, it’s a usual thing…. best wish to all and have a Blessed holiday

  3. I’m turkey the 8th I am, turkey the 8th I am I am.
I got married to the turkey next door…
He’s been married seven times before …and
Every one was a brutal bird..
It wouldn’t be a Willy or a Fred.

  4. With or without the apostrophe? i maintain the votes go the Turkey Party in NJ.

    1. There are people in this country having trouble putting food on the table, and this town is wondering what to do about invading turkeys? Put them in the freezer and feed families. Allow hunters to get their Thanksgiving turkey or donate it to a family in need.

    1. Revenge of the Frankenturkey…

These aren’t the white factory farmed turkeys, though.

      1. Karen S – there is an article about them in the NYPost today. They are grouping up and attacking senior citizens. It also appears no one has control over them. 😉

        1. That’s what I don’t get. Invite hunters to take care of this problem. They would be delighted to have a bird in the freezer. I’ve known hunters who provide meat to people on hard times. Seriously. Why does this town not know what to do?

          1. Karen S – I think there is this whole firing a weapon in a municipality, near a residence, etc. that a hunter would have to deal with. The damn things are hanging out on the lawn, between you and the front door.

            1. Oh – they’re in the center of town? Get a bunch of brooms, herd them out of the city, and voila, put them in the freezer. They can’t be allowed to go after the elderly. Their skin is delicate, and a scratch can bleed easily and become infected. Wild turkeys are fast, and they can fly a bit.

My relatiave got trapped in the house by a boar once. It kept attacking her if she tried to set foot inside. Her husband took off from work and took care of it.

          2. The government doesn’t want people who think for themselves, and/or are self starters and self reliant…….dependency is the wave of the future.

        2. Yes it’s a senior community and the reason they are over run with them and deer is because the senior’s of the community feed the wild life, so they don’t leave where they are being feed they just have babies that add to the problem

  5. JT, wild turkeys are all over near the northern NJ/NY boarder on highways 95, 84, 87, 287. 495, 80

Normally a driver watches for deer crossings at highway speeds. But when a 25 pound wild turkey crashes through the windshield of your vehicle at 60mph+, it won’t be happy thanksgiving.

18 wheel Coke truck driver & state police couldn’t find the wild turkey that smashed the windshield.
