STATE OF THE BLOG (2019)

Happy New Year to all of our blog community from around the world. As has been our tradition on this blog, with the start of 2020, I thought I would share our annual “State of The Blog” statistics from the last year. It has been a great year for the blog with the highest traffic in the history of our blog. We continued our expansion internationally. While I usually post a separate blog when we passed another million mark, the crush of impeachment meant that our passage of the 38,000,000 view mark went unheralded and we are well on our way to 39,000,000.

Thanks to all of our regulars and particularly Darren Smith who continues to monitor the blog and write on the weekend. We also now have an email following of over 105,0000 and a twitter following of almost 100,000.

We had 886 posted columns in 2019 and 84,526 comments.

In addition to the United States, our two leading contributing countries were again Canada and Great Britain among 226 other countries.

  2. This comments section is an embarrassment for anyone who values rational discussion. Either JT has never read even a small sampling of it or cares only about hits, and it’s hard to imagine the former.

    There is no doubt that there are some very smart people posting here, and even regularly, but they spend almost all their time insulting the few posters from the other tribe or joining in group denunciations of the character of the other tribe. The scary part is that they seem to passionately believe that nonsense and take no pride in presenting a rational argument as the proof of their supposed superior position.

    The moderator repeatedly allows vile personal attacks and even stalker-like posting of personal information as long as the poster is in the majority tribe. One would hope that a law school professor who cared about free and decent discussion and the comments section with his name on it would direct him to stop these practices and delete any posts lacking substantive content and advocacy. Sure, some sarcasm and moderately disrespectful asides – hopefully clever and in good humor – could spice it up, but at present this is a snake pit which stifles thought and encourages base attacks and group think of a very low order.

    1. bythebook – I will put this as politely as I can, butt out. You can always start your own blog that does all the nifty things you propose for this blog. I am sure JT can get along without your advice, especially from someone too gutless to write under their name.

      1. Paul, your response to my post would carry more weight if you aimed your criticism of me for not using my real name at those who do the same but agree with you. Most posters here do not use their real name, a common practice for many communicating publicly on the internet.

        I don’t care who you are personally and have no interest in looking you up. Those who might are who those of us choose to be anonymous are concerned with.

            Naw leave him in his closet. He’s the blog clown we bring him out for special occasions like kids birthday parties and April Fools Day. He’s a paid troll and an ingrate. He’d go if he had any principle. That he doesn’t tells you plenty.

              1. No they aren’t….but they do mob up at the drop of a hat…I like your hat. This used to be a very nice blog that got ugly at times but still demonstrated thoughtful content and argument from the gallery. Unfortunately it seems to have become ingrained in the times and less able to demonstrate a higher form of civil disagreement. I certainly don’t fault you for posting under a nom de plume…most sane people do and they don’t adopt ‘real sounding names’ that are in fact white feathers….not honest ones.

      No one posted any personal information about you that you hadn’t alluded to yourself. And, again, your son the prosecutor has a frigging LinkedIn profile.

      You’re a fine one to complain about ‘personal attacks’. You have no demonstrable interest in issues, just in employing every bit of falsehood and sophistry you can muster to trash the President. I’d only give you kudos for not being as prolix, repetitive, and crude as Natacha (who you’ve praised even though she rants like a skid row schizo).

  5. Ya good job JT, you have turned your blog into a echo chamber for tribalism in the extreme. You have the same people that write on a post 20 to 50 times, and push false facts and alternative reality that they must know are not real, proving that repeating the lie over and over again, somehow makes it true in their flat-earth view. Truth isn’t truth, facts are not facts, and laws and rules are subject to be bent and twisted for their view only, and heaven help anybody that breaks the echo of their bubble.
