RES IPSA HITS 39,000,000

Yesterday, we passed the 39,000,000 mark in views on the blog. We have used these moments to give thanks for our many regular readers around the world and give you an idea of the current profile of readers on the blog. We continue to rank in the top legal blogs in the world and I am particularly proud of our growing international readership. As always, I want to offer special thanks for Darren Smith who has continued to help manage the blog and help out folks who encounter posting problems.

So here is our current profile:

We have almost 19,000 blog posts with almost 100 comments per post on average. We currently have roughly 120,000 followers on email.

    I wonder about the visitor counts. There are a few people who spend a lot of time here and their visits would push up the “view” count. The visitor count is likely to be much lower. Also, the good professor’s blog used to win awards…, but not these days, apparently. Not that the awards matter much, but still…

    Professor Turley’s Blog provides a tremendous opportunity for the “manifest tenor” of the Constitution to be revealed to America. Professor please find an opportunity to edify America on the truth of the fundamental law that Article 1, Section 8, provides the power to Congress to tax only for “…general Welfare…,” deliberately omitting and, thereby, excluding any power of Congress to tax for individual welfare, aka redistribution of wealth. Please also clarify for Americans that, in the same article and section, no power to regulate anything other than money, the flow of commerce and land and naval forces is provided by the Constitution. Finally, please present the legal truth that the 5th Amendment provides the unqualified and absolute right to private property causing rent control, minimum wage, affirmative action, quotas, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws et al. to be irrefutably unconstitutional. Professor Turley, please take the opportunity of your transcendent and preeminent blog to inform Americans that the Founders did not provide all conceivable (9th Amendment) rights, freedoms, privileges and immunities in one article only to expunge them in another and that amendments that were “injurious” to the Constitution were and are anathematic, antithetical, illegitimate and illicit.

  8. Prof Turley, to your credit, you never rely on ad hominem arguments and speak out against them. If only you could bar the “Res Ipsa” commenters who sink to the ad hominem with frequency in your blog.

  10. Pride in hits and posts explains a lot, but does not indicate pride in content. JT’s established persona is as a nonpartisan commentator on the law, not as a provider of red meat misleading “news” intended to work right wingers into a lather. That is what he’s doing here and the posts reflect his success with that strategy, if not a reasonable discussion of the law. That constructed persona will disappear as the blatant partisanship of his comments become more commonly known, and it won’t take long.

      You just couldn’t resist the compulsion to insult the host of the blog you frequent. Pointing out right and wrong does not make Turley partisan. Pretending not to see wrong makes you so.

      Anyone who actually reads the post would understand Turley is no great fan of President Trump or the far right.

      1. Karen, on specific JT posts I have pointed out his clearly partisan goals.

        Tulsi has had a CNN Town Hall show. The charge is false and Fox News, which Turley rarely comments on is equally partisan.

        His post on Bernie is about a charge about unnamed plotters who JT acknowledges at the bottom of the article are small in numbers and unlikely to be successful. Say what? Earlier in the article he falsely claims that Bernie came close to winning in 2016. No, he didn’t. He lost the primaries by 56% to 43%. That’s worse than Hillary beat Trump.

        Today’bogus attack on the Democratic party has an unsubstantiated claim that Kerry might enter the race to “block” Sanders.So what? How is that an attack on Sanders and not other candidates? Kerry denies it and JT talks about how difficult and unlikely it would be. So what? What if he did enter the race? What are you writing a column about BS other than to attack Democrats again?

        2. bythebook – how would you know Jonathan Turley’s goals? Are you a mind reader? Intimate friends? Close family acquaintance? Because unless he’s discussed his ultimate goals with you, you have absolutely no idea, and are making a specious argument.

          Plus you’re being abominably rude.

          Bernie did come close to winning. He was blocked at the primaries by super delegates.

          1. Karen, I fully explained how I arrived at my conclusion, and you offer nothing in dispute. This is a forum for ideas, not JT’s living room, and I assume he welcomes reasoned and dispassionate criticism. If not, that’s what I’m posting anyway.

            You are wrong on the Democratic primaries. As I have already noted, and which you have offered nothing against factually, Bernie lost to Hillary, 56%-43%. That translated to almost 4 million votes. Super delegates did not cause his defeat, nor would they have saved him.

The countries listed merely reflect the location of the internet servers that commenters utilized with or without VPN, Tor, etc. The list of countries is not an indication of where the commenters reside. This is how the trolls do it: they use VPN or Tor to post anonymously to circumvent IP address blocks and use fake profile names
