American Conservative Union Chair Says That Romney Could Be In “Physical” Danger

The Chair of the Conservative Political Action Conference has made news this week by not only saying that Sen. Mitt Romney (R, Utah) was not welcomed at the annual conference, but that the former Republican presidential nominee could be in danger of being being assaulted in such venues. Matt Schlapp said that ” I’d actually be afraid for his physical safety, people are so mad at him.” I recently wrote a Washington Post column defending Romney but the attacks have continued, including an attack by President Donald Trump last night at a campaign rally. It appears that the “Big Tent” party of Ronald Reagan has become a pup tent of exclusion.

In an interview Saturday on “Full Court Press” with Greta Van Susteren, Schlapp added that Romney’s vote was reprehensible: “When he needed a conservative like Donald Trump to endorse him in his Senate primary last time, he wanted him in. But then, when he gets the Senate job, he wants to distance himself from Trump. He’s a use-’em-and-lose-’em kind of guy.”

In fairness to Schlapp, he was not saying that he felt such a violent urge against Romney but that he believed some might harbor such urges after his Senate vote. He was expressing his concern for his safety and he may be right.

The Republican party has long had its famous and inspiring dissenters. Their opposition to aspects of the Party or its leadership was not necessarily correct on the merits, but the party once proudly cited the breadth and scope of its memberships. The statement that Romney is not just unwelcome but could be in physical jeopardy is a chilling statement about the state of our politics. As I wrote recently, there are similar threats being voiced from the other side, though this is a view of one of the main political organizations associated with the Republican party.

Romney voted against one article of impeachment and in favor of another. He did so out of his deep-seated beliefs not just in the case but his religion. That does not mean that he was right, but it means that he did the right thing. When did the party get so small, that there is no room for such a man?

  1. Although I strongly suspect from his history with Trump that Romney confuses virtue signaling and personal animus with his conscience, the reaction from many is obviously out of bounds.

  2. I’m not a fan of Mitt Romney, but CPAC has embarrassed themselves and conservatism in general more than they have done a single thing to hurt Romney’s image. Banning Romney from the CPAC meeting on grounds they can’t provide adequate security for him against attacks by angry conservatives sounds like the dream story of all the leftist political hacks in journalism.

  3. Yes, Professor Turley, Trumpers Are Ornery

This column highlights an all too familiar pattern: ‘Trump tweets his displeasure with someone and suddenly that person is besieged with hate mail’.

Obviously this pattern is disturbing to anyone who values democracy.  Trump behaves like a mafia don.  He knows his tweets are going to incite overzealous supporters.  Nevertheless he tweets!

One can see on the comment threads of this blog that Trump supporters are unusually hostile when aroused by liberal commenters.  Any critic of Donald Trump is savaged in the most vile terms.

For 2 years this commenter has been widely dismissed as a ‘paid troll for Media Matters’.  Some might consider this label a backhanded compliment.  But it reflects a mentality that every day Americans cannot possibly hold liberal views.

When the ‘Media Matters’ labels failed to deter this commenter from posting (like it was supposed to shame me), one Trump supporter hinted he had research determining this commenter is a ‘resident of West Hollywood’!  This assertion is factually incorrect.  Yet this commenter suddenly found himself besieged, on these comment threads, by accusations he is ‘gay’.

This ‘gay’ accusation became a daily smear for a period of months.  Almost every time this commenter posted, a Trump supporter replied with some variation of the ‘gay’ smear.  The objective of this smear rests on a very simple principle: ‘Keep repeating a lie until it gains traction’.  People assume if they hear a lie, over and over, there ‘has’ to be some truth.

Professor Turley occasionally writes columns decrying acts of hostility towards Trump supporters wearing MAGA hats.  Turley panders to a culture of victimhood embraced by Trump supporters.  Yet with this column Turley seems to acknowledge that Donald Trump is, in fact, a bully inciting supporters to harass perceived enemies.  Yet I totally expect Turley to write a fresh column soon portraying Trump supporters as ‘victims’.

  4. ”He did so out of his deep-seated beliefs not just in the case but his religion.“ No one but God and Romney know his motivations with certainty. All the rest of us have are his statements and pattern of behavior. I believe he used bad judgement and I have my suspicions about his motivation.

But violence or its threats in politics is wrong. Hopefully the statement was hyperbole. But if it was in earnest then those people need to get a grip. The best remedy for bad speech is good speech. And, now they know Romney lacks good judgement. That is important information to know.

  5. Meanwhile, in the Roger Stone sentencing, the prosecuting attorney resigned because Barr, Trump’s personal attorney paid for by US Taxpayers, demanded a lower sentence for his lying to Congress. King Donald opposed the 9 year sentence, calling in “unfair”. Yes, since lying is such a large part of King Donald’s life and because he is virtually amoral and narcissistic, lying to Congress is OK>

And Senate Republicans just blocked one of 10 election security bills submitted by Democrats. From CNN: “Democrats tried to get consent to pass two bills that require campaigns to alert the FBI and Federal Election Commission (FEC) about foreign offers of assistance, as well as legislation to provide more election funding and ban voting machines from being connected to the internet.

But Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) opposed each of the requests. Under the Senate’s rules, any one senator can ask for unanimous consent to pass a bill, but any one senator can object and block their requests.

Blackburn accused Democrats of trying to move the bills knowing that GOP lawmakers would block them and giving them fodder for fundraising efforts.”

Why on earth would any Senator oppose these measures, other than to help King Donald cheat once more? The ship of state is in very dangerous waters now. Republicans have lost all sense of decency.

    1. Republicans are traitors now. Once Trump is gone every single GOP senator should be arrested and charged with treason. If any trump fans make problems, take them down. The unfortunate consequence of this despicable administration will be something akin to the removal of Ba’ath party officials in Iraq after the removal of Saddam Hussein.

      1. Are you prepared to make the case with facts and evidence, or will this be a continuation of the Democrats quest for banana republic status by convicting based on public opinion surveys and feelings?

        Asking for a friend.

        1. The treasonous behavior of the Republicans is there for all to see. They have continued to work against American democracy, and in the favor of Russia’s interests. They must be dealt with the same way the Ba’ath party was dealt with. You, the trumpian voters, need to be dealt with too

            1. I mean treason: acting in the interest of American enemies, mainly Russia. “Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” This is what happened in the Ukraine extortion scheme ran by Trump, Pence, et al.

But yes, you are correct, the GOP is also seditious.

              1. Sedition, lol, last time the government tried a sedition case was 1986 and that was against real adversaries of the US and they still couldn’t win a conviction. Look it up. Ft Smith Trial.

              2. Never ….:
Ah, Mr. Blackstone, we are not at war with Russia hence they are not our enemy. Clowns are funny; fools pathetic. You’re pathetically under-educated on the topics you write about.

          1. American democracy? Define it and then identify the evidence to prove your case. Without that, I’m confident you’re merely projecting what the facts and evidence prove; it has been the Democrat party undermining our electoral processes and it has been their deep state operatives conspiring to take down our duly elected President. In other words, making themselves enemies of the state.

            Bring it. We’re ready.

              1. Youre all going to end up in camps.

Sounds great! I like camp. By the way, Barr, Durham and the rest of the patriots in the DOJ will be giving lessons on criminal justice and our constitution. Pay attention, because what you feel you know is the opposite of what they will prove to be true. 🙂

                1. Patriots? You have things seriously confused. Barr and Durham are not patriots, they are hacks and quacks hired to protect a mafioso president. A day of reckoning with these criminals is coming

                  1. I tell you what, I am prepared to discover and admit I was wrong, if the facts and evidence reflect that. Are you?

                    1. The evidence is already out there. You seem to be ignoring it

                    2. The evidence is already out there.

Then show it and I will follow through with my promise.

Your answer to the challenge however is standard fare for your ilk. This is not that difficult. If you had the evidence, you’d have no problem accepting the challenge. If you had any humility, you’d have no problem accepting the challenge. You apparently have neither, and thus your insistence I’m the ignorant one. By the way, that standard fare is otherwise known as projection.

              2. Camps lol. We will call them re-education facilities. And you will receive free job retraining to help you become a valuable member of society!

          2. “deal with” this right here! lolz

what you know about Baath party or Russia wouldn’t even fill your sippy cup!

      2. You want traitors and treason against the American thesis (i.e. freedom through self-reliance) and Constitution?

The entire American democrat welfare state is unconstitutional. Democrats may desire it but democrats can’t do any of it. Democrats can’t claim or exercise dominion over private property, the right to which is unqualified and absolute. Democrats cannot tax for individual or specific welfare, aka redistribution of wealth. Democrats cannot regulate anything except the value of money, the flow of commerce among nations, states and Indian tribes to preclude bias or favor by one over another, and land and naval forces.

Everything democrats as frauds support and sell to their electorate “buyers” is unconstitutional including, but not limited to, affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, rent control, social services, forced busing, minimum wage, utility subsidies, WIC, TANF, HAMP, HARP, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc.

        To provide and maintain a navy;

        To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces;

      3. ha ha Never an internet tough guy. You and what army? try and take me down any day, get in line! who wants to try first? i laugh at this kind of talk

and you can see how successful they were in “removing” the Baath party.

      1. Absurd, is “American Greatness” a Trump-franchised paper? How funny that they were able to rush an article to poo-poo these prosecutors.

  6. “…a pup tent of exclusion.”

    Well, duuuuh!

The American Founders, four times in their Naturalization Acts of 1790, 1795, 1798 and 1802, required citizens to be “…free white person(s).”

The American Founders, in 1789, generally restricted the vote to: Male, European, Age 21, Net worth of 50 lbs. Sterling or 50 acres.

Democracy was always of the restricted-vote republican variety since inception in Greece and perpetuation by Rome.

Alexander Tytler wrote that all “inclusive” one man, one vote democracy was nonviable and self-destructive; always ending in dictatorship.

The American Founders precluded the inmates from taking over the asylum.

Exclusive, controlled and directed self-governance is precisely what the American Founders established in order for self-governance to burgeon and abide.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the canidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy–to be followed by a dictatorship.”

    – Alexander Fraser Tytler

  7. Do you Trumpsters see a pattern here? Anyone who is not a syncophant to King Donnie of the Order of Bone Spurs has to go, because the King is never wrong, can never be wrong, and his precious ego is first and foremost, before anything and everything. Romney made history by being the first Senator from the same party as an impeached POTUS to vote to convict. He didn’t do it for attention or to make history, but this action was motivated by his conscience and the oath he took before God. So Romney, who has made clear that his faith will always be his guiding light, is now being threatened: not just politically, but also physically. The Chair of this committee publicly rebuked Romney, said he isn’t welcome, acknowledged that these wonderful conservatives might physically assault Romney if he came anyway, but most importantly, never said that he would condemn this conduct or take steps to prevent it. That’s what Trump has done to this country. A man of faith cannot vote his conscience without consequences.

Then, there are the impeachment witnesses: fired, and forced to retire or resign. And then there are all of the people formerly in this pathetic administration who crossed King Donne, either by telling him he’s wrong, not complying with some stupid or harebrained command, or in the case of Sessions, complying with the Rules of Professional Conduct requiring him to recuse, as well as others, too numerous to name, but each of whom is a better man or woman than King Donnie. This is just how Hitler got started: get rid of those who aren’t your syncophants, and intimidate anyone who has any ideas of doing anything other than der fuehrer’s bidding and/or criticizing der fuehrer. Even Hitler didn’t try to avoid military service. In fact, Hitler began by being uber-motivated by patriotism, not narcissism. Trump is just pure narcissist.

Speaking truth to power comes at a price under King Donnie of the Order of Bone Spurs. This is supposed to be America: land of the free and home of the brave. Well, the brave part is now the most important. I doubt there is a single Republican who believes that Trump didn’t do what was proven, but they put party and their own asses ahead of the right thing to do. Cowards like Susie Collins need to be removed form office. We are in dangerous times now.

    1. “Do you Trumpsters see a pattern here”

YES! The pattern is that weak sisters are getting the opprobrium they deserve.

The message is clear: team players only!

Cohesion and solidarity win the day!

Finally, conservatives are getting over excessive individualism.

Only fools will listen to these crocodile tears for poor Romney!

      1. Romney won. He will go down in history as a man of courage, his words will be quoted for decades and centuries to come. Trump will go down in history as a stupid, vein and corrupt buffoon whose words will be mocked and laughed at.

        1. Vain may be the word you were looking for, not vein

I welcome your further commentary! Pithy and amusing as it is.

          1. A snappy response, but one that can’t hide the fact that you know I am right. What sort of legacy do you believe Trump and the GOP will leave behind? Romney’s vote took courage. His speech was a master class of American oratory. Compare it with the tweets and the hate rally rants Trump spews forth.

Most important of all is that Romney stood on the principles that the GOP once professed to believe in and to defend. That is no longer the case. Slavish, servile and submissive collectivism in the service of a man they all despise but fear crossing. They are a broken party serving a man as shallow as a dry stream, and a criminal to boot.

            1. Romney’s vote was that of a man consumed by antipathy and spite, and focused only on his singular mission to take out Trump, nothing else.

              1. That makes no sense. His vote was meaningless in the grand scheme of thigs. Trump was always going to be acquitted by the senate and Romney’s single vote was nowhere close enough to remove Trump. He voted for the losing position with the full realization that he would suffer for it and that it would be a futile gesture. So how does it in any way benefit Romney’s career in the senate? Besides, you ignore the cold, hard facts.

                https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/mitt-romney/

Romney votes in line with Trump’s position 78.8% of the time. This is not a man consumed by antipathy and spite whose only mission is to take out Trump. Compare it to Rand Paul, who voted in line with Trump’s position 72.8% and 63% of the time in the 115th and 116th congress, respectively. Even the pathetic, despicable and broken Lindsey Graham, the domesticated dog of the senate, has only voted 75.9% of the time in line with Trump during the 116th congress.

No, the facts do not support your sad accusations.

                1. Rand Paul has an excellent voting record, but he is more loyal to the interests of average Americans than the docile steppinfetchit of globalism, Romney. So he had a tough question that was censored!

Republicans are free to have honest differences of opinion and vote their conscience.

But I tell you, in this thing, Romney is a fake, up there talking about his conscience or whatever. Big phony! He;’s nothing more than a disgruntled rival of Trump’s, grandstanding. And idiotic move, yes! Petulant worm

            2. Most important of all is that Romney stood on the principles that the GOP once professed to believe in and to defend.

Yes, Mugwump Romney has had his moment. He’s proven to be as omniscient as Schiff, but with more charisma. He said regarding his vote:

…the president in fact pressured a foreign government “to corrupt” the 2020 presidential election. “Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one’s oath of office that I can imagine,” Romney said.
              https://thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/481844-why-mitt-romneys-courageous-vote-to-convict-trump-matters

Never mind the facts and evidence were insufficient to prove the charge. Mugwump Romney has a higher calling to vote his conscience, because his faith demands it.

So far, CAIR hasn’t chimed in, but they are presumed to be working on getting Romney’s endorsement for Sharia Law in the United States.

            3. Romney is a phony. I didn’t vote for him. The legacy of Trump will be AMERICA FIRST

I don’t fear Trump, been praying for a leader like him for decades! Our lives are better than ever!

    2. Natacha has it all wrong, per usual. Susan Collins is the courageous one. She saw through the lies told by Chrissy Baby Talk and made a correct and courageous vote -even as she and her family endured, and continue to endure, harrasment and death threats. Mitt Romney is a weak, self-serving boob.

        1. Plenty of spine and see where it goes if you keep it up with the “camps” threats

  8. Like it or not though one of the crosses President Trump has to bear is his inherited role as leader of the GOP. but first the has to teach them the meaning of Constitutionalism. He’s been fairly successful at that but it helps there is no competition

    1. HAHAH, because we all know Trump has read the constitution. Get off the drugs

  9. It appears that type of hysteria was led by BLM and antifada on behalf of the far left. However what a conservative or a liberal say is nowhere near as important as what a Constitutionalist, especially a Constitutional Centrist says or does. And what the GOP,DNC, and pollsters say is the least important followed only in unimportance by the propagandists of the Pelosites and Schumerians. AKA The Losers..

    1. Raise the flag! The ranks tightly closed!
We march with quiet, steady step.
Comrades shot by the Red Front and reactionaries,
March in spirit within our ranks

  10. Matt Schlapp, what a perfect name, it sounds like the sound a pile of very moist dog crap makes as it hits the floor, is just a trumpist buffoon. It’s too bad that a party that once professed to be the defenders of the constitution, liberties and reason is now in the service of a gross, obscene, stupid man who wishes to be above the law and for whom the Constitution is something to wipe his obese ass with. The GOP is no longer a proud party, they are men and women broken by a two-bit buffoon. That they fear this orange imbecile is incomprehensible.

    1. Never Succumb to Trump and his brownshirts:

Thanks for including a nom de plume that allows me to quickly just skip right over this dog’ breakfast of a comment — I suppose.

      1. My pleasure, you must be one of the aforementioned brownshirt

        1. shirts are blue, pants are black
Trumps the man, we got his back

          doc martens or tasseled loafers
time now to win, no do-overs

  11. Today’s republican party is not the republican party of last week or last month or last year. These are full trumpist and should be called on it every time they bend over for King Donald. Trumpists are not republican or conservative. They are a wanna-be fascist movement and have very strong signs of a cult. There is a very good reason why there are so many never-trumpers.

      1. Trump doesn’t give chicks, he takes them, and mostly against their will.

    1. i agree that this Republican party has left the reactionary attitudes of yesterday behind

      And that’s a good thing.

  12. So Jon, this statement of yours, deliberately FALSE.
Mitt Romney has an extensive history of supporting the George Bush 43 / Clinton Establishment.

Romney also has an extensive file on his hate not only for TRUMP but also for those that DO NOT SUPPORT HIS IDEA OF THE CHOSEN. He gave strong support to those who partnered with Democrats, McCain, Ryan, Corker, McConnell, etc. to have the IRS perform DEVASTATING AUDITS on Tea Party members, their business, their friends and Customers. They also organized other departments to participate including OSHA and FBI who interview neighbors and customers about non existent terrorist ties. Also the Lois Learner Judge SEALED the trial to protect the establishment. Judge betrayed the people.

Romney like McCain is a vindictive small man. His Op Eds in the NYT only benefited him, not his constituents.

What you are deliberately lying about in this article is offensive. YOU ARE SAYING THIS ABOUT ME. We accept differences, WE DO NOT ACCEPT SELF SERVING LIARS. What you wrote in this article describes you and the East coast democrats. You can only see things in terms of yourself.

We needed you and you chose to Virtue Signal to be accepted once again. I am ashamed you chose to lie about me and what we believe just to make sure you are invited to Martha’s Vineyard this summer by the good people.

How is Your “Pup Tent of Exclusion” Different than Prof #Karlan’s ” you can name your son Baron”. Its NOTIt is just as cheap and petty.

We just lost a MUCH NEEDED Truth Leader.
We lost him BY HIS CHOICE

    1. You don’t accept self-serving liars? What would you call Trump?

    2. Anon @ 11:27.

You don’t have to shout. And I think it might be time for your nap.

  13. Mitt Romney is a Mormon prophet and this is privilege to direct communications with God that non-Mormons are not privy too. He thinks he’s God’s messenger (which makes him mentally ill.)

  14. I’d argue that Romney split his vote on the two articles not on principle, but as a political calculation. If there is to be any physical safety concerns, he would be far more likely to encounter it from the Left than the Right. Splitting his vote gives him cover. He’s a snake that will never be trusted.

  15. Romney has certain talents and virtues. The trouble is, as a public figure, these are leavened with so many other things.

  16. Off-topic, but worth considering: the violation of civil liberties surrounding the epidemic in China.

“In 2018, Chen started a video blog on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, and quickly amassed over a million fans for his legal commentary.

He ran into trouble last year after posting videos of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Traveling to the semi-autonomous Chinese city, he attended both a patriotic pro-Beijing rally and a protest march, showing both sides to give his mainland audience a balanced perspective. In response, authorities shut down his Chinese social media accounts and called him back to the mainland.”

“Last week, Chen’s posts dried up. His mother broke the silence with a video post in the small hours of Friday. She said Chen was unreachable and appealed for help in finding him.

Later that evening, his friend and well-known mixed martial artist Xu Xiaodong said in a live broadcast on YouTube that Chen had been forcibly quarantined for 14 days, considered the maximum incubation period for the virus. He said Chen had been healthy and showed no signs of infection.”

    1. Prarie Rose,

the mass media is gripped with maniacal obsession over Trump

the biggest quarantine in human history is weeks long underway in the PRC
      the news geeks barely noticed

the lies out of the Communist party of China are coming fast and thick with all their bogus “statistics” that vastly under-state the number of diagnosed and died from coronovirus

the crematories of Wuhan are working 24/7 to incinerate corpses. it’s been documented on the internet by intrepid citizen journalists in China, literally risking their lives and sometimes losing them, with viral messaging that spreads so fast the Communist censors and their friends at Twitter can’t pull them down fast enough, with investigative calls, photographs, and atmospheric studies of local sulphur dioxide emissions, but the US mass media won’t stop yammering about Trump to consider the implications

and Wall Street is on a tear, equally deluded to the impact this will have on the world economies

google “Epoch Times” for leads to the proof of grossly understated moralities and infection

      1. So, you read the Epoch Times. That explains a lot

      2. google “Epoch Times” for leads to the proof of grossly understated moralities and infection

The mortality rate outside of China is notably lower than it is in China. There have been 462 cases reported outside China proper, among which there have been two deaths (0.43%) There have been > 42,600 cases identified in China with 1,017 deaths (2.38%). About 96% of the deaths reported have been in the province of Hubei. Either public health authorities all over the world are scamming you worse than is the Chinese government, or China has perfectly wretched palliative care, or China is for some reason lowballing the number of identified infections by a factor of 5.

        1. China does have wretched palliative care. even before this, they’re totally out of whack, not enough young people to care for the old. due to one child policy.
and now with this virus they’re even more overwhelmed

and besides them intentionally low balling them, there are also legit reasons why the numbers are low, specifically:

          a) many casualties have been in the homes. they are not testing corpses because there are too many
          b) they are not testing self-quarantined sick people who are not at hospital, who are untested, the true count not only of deaths but mere infections, are both just guesses.
          c) they did not even have adequate supply of test kits for the hospitals and still dont

but there is sufficient proof emerging from uncensored video coming from citizen journalists that yes, the orders have gone out to suppress reporting of casualties and infections. typical communist muzzling of free speech.

the official numbers for days were bogus, day after day precisely the same ratio, it was right at 2.8 or so for a week, before Miles Kwok made fools of them for noticing this and laughed at their clumsy lies and mocked them in an interview with Steve Bannon. if i have time i will find the clip later

          1. understand the one child policy was a deliberate ploy not only to limit starvation, but long term, to restrict the growth of the labor supply, and eventually increase wages, by killing off the labor surplus

this was explicitly promised to the Chinese by the planners, and to some degree it worked

the problem is now the imbalance of men to women, leaving many unwed men, and the imbalance of old to young, which grows worse.

the die-off in the elderly population of this virus will actually help the CPC long term

i don’t find totally credible evidence yet that it was an engineered virus, though the claims are out there with some merits. even still, why would they unleash it on their own population?

            a) it is killing off old people which is a long term problem for them. helps with pension solvency too,
            b) it is not a problem for young people,,,,,, very low mortality among young infecteds, who are often totally asymptomatic
            c) the riots in HK have totally disappeared, anybody notice that? I did

So, if the CPC engineered this virus and unleashed it, well, it’s not like they havent killed off a lot of their own people before. (Red Guards, Great Famine) …. it is unthinkable for a western government, but not for them.

We will see how it turns out. If Xi is deposed, then I think that outcome would go against the bioweapon hypothesis

if Xi emerges stronger than ever, then the unthinkable becomes, more plausible

              1. i have a lot better sourcing than the NYT and Wapo just myself. they are idiots. they live in bubbles. there are slow and the editors parse every word they say for approval from above. the guys at Berkshire Hathaway recently said something like “every newspaper is going to die” and it will be richly deserved because they are pathetic. twitter alone is worth more these two combined, even though you have to pick the news out like fishing diamonds out of a pile of manure.

if you want to get fast and realistic news on China you can do the following:

                1. read the SCMP.
                2. read the CPC approved press and understand their patterns of predictable lying.
                3. read the much derided Epoch Times, understanding they have a bone to pick with the CPC since they’re owned by Falun Dafa. this colors some of their reporting for sure, I’ll admit.
4 check in here with me. I do 1 and 2 but unlike the doofuses at the Wapoo or NYT who at best will call other reporters for the skinny, I actually have sources inside the PRC who are regular people
                5. if you don’t like me, you could get it all off twitter, it’s all coming over the bow so fast now they’re not trying to censor it like they were a week ago

                1. here’s another story that corroborates a claim i made here before.

institutions like mass media and academia are awash in Chinese communist “Hongbao” ie gifts

they are bending over backwards to accommodate pro CPC narratives

                  https://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/3050348/harvard-and-yale-under-us-investigation-over

Prestigious US schools including Harvard and Yale under US investigation over foreign funding, gifts from China
Yale may not have disclosed at least US$375 million in contributions, while Harvard may lack appropriate controls to track money it receives
Authorities have requested records of gifts from foreign sources, including Huawei and ZTE, as well as documents related to China’s Thousand Talents Plan

                  ____________________________________

Communist officials are moving GOBS of money out of China, day in and day out, shoveling it into the West like hot coals from a furnace, through a variety of means, some simple and some complex. Some of the money is approved from above, and some of it is just their “lifeboat money” in case the whole thing goes BOOM. I cant say i blame them!

Cities like Vancouver are prime examples and if you’re in LA or NYC you should know what i mean, it only takes two functioning eyeballs and a trip to the right neigbhorhoods to see it

but it’s trickled down here to flyover too.

indeed as the Obama era avenues become restricted, sneakier means have become more well used. heres an older article about the previously popular e5b:

dont think they’re just parking it all in honk kong., although that’s a key destination in the ratline
