Covidiots: Coronavirus Challenges and Parties Lead To New Cases Across The Country

Just when you thought that we were on the right side of the evolutionary curve, pictures emerge of students jamming Florida beaches and others videotaping themselves licking toilets and doorknobs as part of “coronavirus challenges.” It is tempting to shrug and say that this is an efficient way to thin the herd of morons but, of course, these young people are putting more vulnerable people at risk. They however are not immune. One toilet licker has come down with the virus and a “coronavirus party” has led to transmission.

We discussed today how police are how ratcheting up charges for pranks and challenges posted on social media as “terroristic threats.” It still comes as a cost. The “coughing prank” has led a store to throw out $35,000 in produce that is badly needed in this crisis.

Some of these individuals however are likely undeterred. In bizarre TikTok footage, people are shown licking toilet bowls. One such man according to Piers Morgan is now in treatment.

Another TikTok character explained her video licking an airplane toilet seat by telling Metro : “I was tired of that b***h corona getting more publicity than ME. I’m the real celebrity.”

Others have decided to gather for moronic moments. At least one person in Kentucky is now infected after taking part at a “coronavirus party.”

This all explains the latest coined term: Covidiot, or “someone who ignores the warnings regarding public health or safety.”

  1. Making jokes is a coping mechanism, whihc is fine to a certain point. You can make fun all you want, but when the virus affects you or your loved ones or your job, you won’t go on TikTok to have a laugh. You’ll go on job sites. My advice is to look for a job right now. I’ve found this page that gathered all the companies that are urgently hiring right now: https://lensa.com/insights/jobs-during-coronavirus/

  2. Estovir and Paulie J.,
Zinc has been shown to decrease virus replication. While in first world countries zinc intake may seem adequate (except in the elderly), absorption requires sufficient stomach acid, which can be decreased by PPIs and stress.

Is zinc supplementation an adjunct therapy for COVID-19 infections?

    1. Information from the WHO:

“Based on these estimates, zinc deficiency was estimated to cause 176000 diarrhoea deaths, 406000 pneumonia deaths and 207000 malaria deaths.”

“The distinction between intake and absorption is important, because although some
intakes of zinc may be acceptable, the levels of inhibitors (e.g. fibre and phytates) in the diet may mean that inadequate amounts of zinc are absorbed.”

“The first system known to be compromised with even mild deficiencies of zinc is the immune system, reflecting the profound and ubiquitous role zinc plays in immune function. As recently reviewed by Shankar and Prasad (1998), zinc deficiency impairs multiple aspects of immune function, including barrier and non-specific immunity, specific immune components (lymphyocytes, monocytes and macrophages, neutrophils, natural killer cells), and mediators of immune function such as glucocorticoid and thymulin activity, and cytokine function. Given the multiple roles of zinc in the immune function, it is not surprising that zinc deficiency should confer increased risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious diseases.”

      https://www.who.int/publications/cra/chapters/volume1/0257-0280.pdf

From the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition:

“Indeed, a moderate deficiency of Zn is often observed in elderly subjects (Blumberg, 1997), even in industrialized countries.”

      https://www.nature.com/articles/1602286

Zinc is not a silver bullet (and, yes, it can cause problems at high doses).

But, could it be a good additional means of treatment if it isn’t already?

Is it part of the course of treatment for people hospitalized with Covid-19?

Trump Campaign Threatens Legal Action Of Coronavirus Ad | Morning Joe | MSNBC

“The president’s re-election campaign is threatening legal action against television stations in key battleground states if they continue to air a Priorities USA ad alleging Trump called the coronavirus a hoax. Guy Cecil of Priorities USA discusses. Aired on 3/26/2020.”

    1. Thanks, Anonymous. The only deception in Priorities video was the soundbite where Trump refers to the “hoax”. Trump was referring to warnings from Democrats and not the actual virus itself. However, had he thought the virus was serious, Trump would not have used the term ‘hoax’ in that particular context.

It’s hard to see how the Trump campaign really has a lawsuit here.
It be insightful to get Professor Turley’s opinion on this.

      1. Seth,

This from Snopes, with Trump’s exact words.

        https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-coronavirus-rally-remark/

Here are Trump’s exact words on the topic at the South Carolina rally:

        Trump:

“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. You know that, right? Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa, they can’t even count. No they can’t. They can’t count their votes.

“One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax. But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We’re 15 people [cases of coronavirus infection] in this massive country. And because of the fact that we went early, we went early, we could have had a lot more than that.”

In context, Trump did not say in the passage above that the virus itself was a hoax. He instead said that Democrats’ criticism of his administration’s response to it was a hoax. He muddied the waters a few minutes later, however, by comparing the number of coronavirus fatalities in the U.S. (none, at that point in time) to the number of fatalities during an average flu season, and accusing the press of being in “hysteria mode”:

        Trump:

“So a number that nobody heard of that I heard of recently and I was shocked to hear it, 35,000 people on average die each year from the flu. Did anyone know that? 35,000. That’s a lot of people. It could go to 100,000, it could be 27,000, they say usually a minimum of 27, it goes up to 100,000 people a year who die, and so far we have lost nobody to coronavirus in the United States. Nobody. And it doesn’t mean we won’t, and we are totally prepared, it doesn’t mean we won’t. But think of it. You hear 35 and 40,000 people, and we’ve lost nobody, and you wonder, the press is in hysteria mode.”

For his part, Trump later defended his comments by stating he was indeed calling out the Democrats’ efforts to blame him and his administration for what they have characterized as an inadequate response “because we’ve done such a good job.”

Trump did however downplay the scale of the virus and the danger it posed to the public. At the time he made his remarks, the U.S. had 57 confirmed coronavirus cases, 40 of which came from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which experienced an outbreak of the virus. And health officials were warning that the spread of the virus domestically was “inevitable.”

        1. And extracting the key portion:

          Trump:

“And this is their new hoax. But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We’re 15 people [cases of coronavirus infection] in this massive country. And because of the fact that we went early, we went early, we could have had a lot more than that.”

          Snopes:

‘In context, Trump did not say in the passage above that the virus itself was a hoax. He instead said that Democrats’ criticism of his administration’s response to it was a hoax. He muddied the waters a few minutes later, however, by comparing the number of coronavirus fatalities in the U.S. (none, at that point in time) to the number of fatalities during an average flu season, and accusing the press of being in “hysteria mode”:’

(I agree with you, Seth. And, yes, it would be nice if JT would comment.)

        2. Anonymous, Trump comes within a whisker of calling the virus a ‘hoax’.

          1. Trump comes within a whisker of calling the virus a ‘hoax’.

A whisper huh? In context, the entire subject changes from the virus to Democrats criticism. That’s an entire subject change from a pandemic to the politicization of a pandemic. What you wish to be true is actually the hoax and you fell for it…again.

            1. Don’t follow the shiny ball under the couch. There is little of the rightful criticism of the woefully-inadequate actions of the day glo bozo which could be characterized as being even remotely related to “hoax.” The criminogenic charlatan-in-chief has earned every single part and parcel of the avalanche of criticism that has cascaded down from patriotic Americans from all quarters.

this is to “ya, he’s an utter buffoon and a immediate danger to our national security,” but he’s in favor of old white guys running things” ollie

              1. As the Left sling to the prospect of using dead Americans to regain their grip on Washington DC under the feeble and demented Joe Biden, we come to understand how it was that Adolf Hitler justified murdering millions of innocents because he desired power

Americans have been observing the pivoting of the Dims from using minorities with identity politics to now, like Hillary recently stated, the relishing of dead Americans to hail Pelosi, Schumer and their enables in the news industry to kill us all

This is “i’m too cowardly to admit I’m Marky Mark” H!tlerite Kmra

                well done!

                1. I am most definitely not concealing who I am. My writing style is unique here; I don’t believe there’s any doubt who is crafting these missives. There also might be clue in that I used the SAME letters in my name.
However, if you think really, really hard, you might eventually cotton to a notion as to why someone who routinely informs the thin-skinned gullible rubes, dupes, klan wannabees, pocket-traitors and grifters on the make who lurk here how nonsensical they are, would need to change their handle occasionally….

this is to “hannity told me to rehash hillary’s name today” anon

                  1. Marky Mark Mark – you keep changing your name. What is the problem?

              2. Welcome back Marky Mark. Your comedy routine is just what this blog needs right about now. Your fellow travelers have worn out their schtick and this will give them a breather as they wait on new material.

          2. “Trump comes within a whisker of calling the virus a ‘hoax’.”

            Agreed, Seth.

  4. Trump Campaign Threatens Lawsuits To Stop Attack Ad.  Soundbites Of Trump Dismissing Virus ‘Slightly’ Misleading

President Trump’s reelection campaign is threatening legal action against television stations in key battleground states if they continue airing an ad cut by the liberal super PAC Priorities USA alleging that the president called the coronavirus a “hoax.”

Alex Cannon, the legal counsel for Trump’s reelection campaign, sent a letter to television stations in key battleground states where the ad is running demanding they “cease and desist” from airing the ad if they want to “avoid costly and time consuming litigation.”

Priorities USA is putting $6 million behind the ad, which is running on television stations in Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The ad, which is titled “Exponential Threat,” splices together different audio clips of Trump downplaying the virus over a graphic showing the number of cases on the rise.

“The coronavirus, this is their new hoax,” Trump says in the ad. “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear. When you have 15 people and within a couple of days is gonna be down to close to zero. We really think we’ve done a great job in keeping it down to a minimum. I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand. No, I don’t take responsibility.”

However, fact-checkers at The Washington Post, Snopes, Politifact and FactCheck.org have said it’s wrong to claim that Trump called the virus a hoax.

Instead, Trump’s full quote reveals that he was describing Democratic efforts to politicize the virus.

“Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it,” Trump said in February. “We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ ‘Oh, nothing, nothing.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. … And this is their new hoax. But you know we did something that’s been pretty amazing.

      1. Regarding Above,

        Key Passages From Article:

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who was coordinator of the task force at the time and announced the travel restrictions, said Trump made the decision in late January after accepting the “uniform recommendation of the career public health officials here at HHS.”

While the World Health Organization did advise against the overuse of travel restrictions, Azar told reporters in February that his department’s career health officials had made a “considered recommendation, which I and the president adopted” in a bid to slow spread of the virus.

Most major airlines had already suspended flights to China prior to the announcement on Jan. 31, following the lead of several major international carriers that had stopped due to the coronavirus outbreak. Delta, American and United cited a sharp drop in demand for the flights, and an earlier State Department advisory told Americans not to travel to China because of the outbreak.
        …………………………………………….

It was Health And Human Services Secretary Alex Azar who recommended that Ttump suspend flights from China. However major airlines had already suspended flights by January 31 when Trump made the announcement.

    1. Haha. As if. However, what the true, patriotic Americans who vote Democratic can do in November is save our beloved country from the criminogenic grifter-in-chief that you and your fellow-travelers composed of gullible rubes, dupes, klan wannabees, pocket-traitors and grifters on the make voted for.

this is to “you know, the klan occasionally has nice, family-style picnics for good people” danny

      1. Leave it to dims to call out klan wannabees and this from the pros at being real mccoy Klans men and owners of slaves
