He Who Must Not Be Named: Trump Invites Every GOP Senator To Help On Economy Group Except Mitt Romney

440px-Mitt_Romney_official_US_Senate_portraitPresident Trump on Thursday called on every GOP senator to join a congressional group to advise him on reopening the economy except one: Sen. Mitt Romney.  Romney, of course, voted in favor of one of the articles for impeachment.  While I disagree with that vote, I still view Romney as an honorable person who cast a vote in good-faith.  One would hope that Trump could move beyond the impeachment for the benefit and unity of the nation, particularly during a pandemic.

The other senators were asked to participate on the “Opening Up America Again Congressional Group.”  One would think that Romney, a highly successful businessman, would be highly sought after for such a group.

The White House announced that “The dialogue between the President, senior Administration officials, and the bipartisan group of Members of Congress also included a range of topics, namely the need for additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, the international and domestic supply chains, ways to energize the economy, surprise medical billing, clarifying the difference between essential and non-essential workers, mental health, and relief for small businesses.”

Romney has not only been the Republican presidential nominee, U.S. Senator, and a Governor of a major state, he was also co-founder of Bain Capital a private equity investment firm.  That résumé on business and politics is virtually unrivaled in the Senate.  More importantly, he is the representative of the people of Utah who deserve to have his voice heard for the benefit of their state. The only reason that he was not included was retaliation for casting his vote on impeachment.

If these reports are true (and there has been no contradiction from the White House), the exclusion of Romney was petty and petulant.

  1. “One would hope that Trump could move beyond the impeachment for the benefit and unity of the nation, particularly during a pandemic.”

One could also hope for a pretty unicorn that farts rainbows. The latter is a more realistic wish.

    1. REGARDING ABOVE:

      Is this a campaign commercial?

‘Keep America Great’, sounds like the slogan Trump was going to use ‘before’ pandemic struck. This could be a MAD satire entitled: “Campaign Ads That Were Junked”.

News Flash: “We’re not doing so great right now”. This crisis is no blip. Until we have reliable virus tests, the country is closed.

Trump’s been told we need the test kits. But he just disregards. Which makes you wonder why he cant get it. Could Trump really be that obtuse? I dont think so. I see darker motives.

      1. Peter – do you think test kits can be magicked up? They just arrive with the wave of a wand? If you are so concerned about test kits, find a company that makes the and get job there. Tell them you will work 24/7 until the pandemic is over.

        1. I doubt they’ll hire a health club employee with a persistent candida infection.

          1. Absurd, you and Crazed Idiot have one thing in common: ‘Neither of you has any talent for crafting real arguments’. You’re both like 90 pound weaklings in that regard.

            1. Neither of you has any talent for crafting real arguments

              🤣😀😁😂😃😄😅😆

You earned the title Paint Chips for a reason: you have proven yourself to have absolutely no capacity for critical-thinking. There is no way you would recognize that talent.

              1. Olly, you’re another one. Never have I seen a real argument from ‘you’. Never! Your only function on these threads is presenting paint-by-number insults.

                1. Never have I seen a real argument from ‘you’. Never!

🤔 you don’t realize how well you’ve proven my point. You perceive observations about you as insults because you don’t see yourself as others do. It’s on you.

                  1. Olly. the bitchy gossip you like to share with Allan, including the pet nicknames, reflects poorly on you, not Seth or any other targets. Why not grow up?

                    1. Anon, you deserve all the derision anyone pushes in your direction. You are abusive, use foul language, lie and create a consus of opinion by creating new aliases.

        2. Paul, ‘no’, the test kits cannot be magically distributed. That’s the big hang-up here! That’s why the whole country is paralyzed. Trump should understand that. But he dismisses it instead.

          1. You are a fool. Test kits are great but they are not a cure nor does continuous testing make things completely safe. There are failures and someone who was negative one second can be positive the next. Your understanding of science is pitiful. Test kits are one tool of many.

Do you know mathematics? The latest figures for death in the US is 150 per million. Calculate out what percent of the population that is. Look up statistics for the death rate of American citizens without considering Covid. Your shocking ignorance if it exists in a signifant portion of the American population would be a disaster.

      2. Paint Chips, the video is talking about motivation and how important motivation is for all people. The same video could be performed by a Democrat or a Republican and Democrat together. Misery loves company so for you motivation is not in your vocabulary. You want someone else to provide and you wish to divide the production of those more motivated so you can have more. That is the nature of socialism. No private property so that your ownership in property is the same as the motivated one that created it. Socialism fails because why should one not be able to realize the benefits of his workproduct.

      3. Paint Chips, testing never cured anyone from the disease. Your attitude goes along with your underlying misery and nihlism. Those who enjoy life don’t think that way. Look at Prairie Rose that sees something she doesn’t understand and the next thing she does is buy text books to learn. That is known as motivation. She seeks knoweldge while caring for a household with children. She doesn’t seem to complain.

        1. Alan, amid this crisis your world view has become increasingly disconnected from any reality. It’s like you cant seem to process the scope of this disaster. I think you’re too old to make any sense of it. You’re stuck at that fleeting moment of post-impeachment euphoria. And you seem to think we’ll be going back to that moment in the near future.

          1. “Alan, amid this crisis your world view has become increasingly disconnected from any reality.”

Paint Chips, your statement confirms your total ignorance of mathematics and science. If you need some lessons there are a number of people on the blog who can help you out. I’ve had to help others out in my early years but no one can help a person who is not ***motivated***. That word comes up again and again.

  2. Prattle — From Middle Low German pratelen. Here ‘low’ just means northern but even there and then, middle referring to long ago, there were those like commenter Allan.

    🎓

    1. He gave an equally eloquent response regarding the pandemic and its impact on the 2020 elections.

      1. Steve, Democrats exaggerate the coarseness of the President but don’t even think twice about Biden’s present unfortunate mental state that becomes more and more obvious.

It demonstrates their insincerity and double standards.

        1. It demonstrates their insincerity and double standards.
          ________________________________________________
What it actually demonstrates is that the democratic leadership is helping Trump get re-elected.

  3. Romney begged for Trump’s endorsement for senate and he got it.

Then he stabbed Trump in the back every chance he got.

Why would Trump want to be in the same room with such a slimy souled creature.

  4. Allan states “The organizational ability of Trump is incredible.”

The definition of incredible from Lexico is ‘impossible to believe’.

So no, Allan, it is merely very, very bad

    😔

    1. If one pontificates, is he the Pope or does he simply play one on the Turley Blog?

  5. From my own personal observation, Trump loathes anyone who insults him or refuses to work with him. I don’t think he has boundaries when fighting with these people.

I have also observed that the exact second that any of these people lay down arms, and try to cooperate, President Trump seems willing to let bygones be bygones and work together. If later they pick up their swords again, then Trump will get back in his tank and take aim.

We have seen examples of this over and over. Most recent are Governors Cuomo (NY) and Newsom (CA). These men loathe trump, and the feeling is mutual. They have been slinging poop at each other for years. The pandemic hit. The governors needed help. And Trump agreed. Both have said that Trump instantly takes his calls, and has granted every one of their requests he was physically capable of granting. They said he’s done everything in his power to help them, regardless of the fact that they are bitter political enemies. While I oppose Cuomo and Newsom politically, I give each credit for being honest about their experience with President Trump during the pandemic, and to Trump for setting aside the trench warfare and sincerely doing everything he can to help them.

I predict this is how it will be for the duration. If any Democrat or Never Trump Republican lays down their arms, Trump will sincerely work with them. If they insult him, Trump is going to roll the insult around to make a bigger bud mall, and fling it back in their face. He’s like a magnifying mirror.

He may never take the high road during an argument, but I have to say that I greatly appreciate that the man does not let political acrimony stand in the way of helping Americans in need, even if he has a to work with leaders who actively seek to undermine him and get him out of office.

As long as Mitt Romney actively undermines President Trump, and does not show a willingness to work together, he will not be included in invitation only think tanks or committees. He is not in a position of trust. The second that he lays down arms, and wants to work together without sabotage, then he will.

Romeny’s vote reminds me of McCain’s. As promised, the repeal of Obamacare was right up there at the front of the to do list. He promised to vote to repeal it. Ran on that platform. But when the moment of truth came, he bailed. Romney’s vote was not justified by the evidence. With their long history of acrimony, I had to wonder if Romney was voting based on what he thought was Trump’s character flaws, or the evidence.

  6. I’m open to the argument Trump should get beyond Romney’s impeachment vote, but “an honorable person who cast a vote in good faith?” Let’s not get carried away.

    1. It’s irrelevant to the issue Stevej, which is now is not the time to nurse grudges, but Romney sacrificed a lot by that vote. It is hard to see it as self serving.

  7. Before you gush all over Romney’s resume’, you might want to look into exactly what Baine Capital has done over the years.

    1. He’s was in the private equity business. A great many of their acquisitions are distressed businesses for whom the next stop is bankruptcy court. Turnarounds commonly mean a-lot-of-jobs-lost as an alternative to all-jobs-lost.

  8. Well I’ll be darned! I have an old 1849ish book of Punch, and as I was perusing it the other day, in my smoking jacket, with a Chet Baker album on the hifi stereo system, and sipping a Martini with a little onion and an olive in it, I came across a very interesting poem about clean water. With pictures!

Then today, while listening to the Revolt Against The Masses book speech I cited above, I heard the dude say something like, “The Liberals of today are like the British Tories iof the 19th century, to wit, arrogant and preachy know-it-alls sort of. Which reminded me of the cute little poem!

Luckily, I did not have to type it in because it was online! For everybody to enjoy with the illustrations! Wheretofore, I present:
