“We Came To Riot”: Illinois Man Arrested With Cache of Explosives

Matthew-RupertYesterday I wrote about the curious effort by some in politics and the media to portray “Russians” or “White Supremacists” as driving the rioting in various cities.  The role of anarchists and Antifa members was obvious — and reinforced by arrests reported in various cities. This gold encrusted arrestee is Matthew Lee Rupert, 28, who was arrested in Chicago trying to pass out explosives — allegedly much like the two attorneys arrested in New York.   The evidence includes a videotape on which Rupert states “we came to riot.”

Rupert is an “outsider” though far short of Moscow. He lives in Galesburg, Illinois.

The prosecutors filed a complaint stating “In the video, Rupert passes out explosive he indicates he possessed, encourages others to throw his explosives at law enforcement officers, actively damages property, appears to light a fire a building on fire and loots businesses in Minneapolis.”

Rupert tried to hand out the explosives and is quoted as telling another individual “light that bitch and throw it at them.”  The other individual did just that and threw the explosive at the police.  Rupert seemed to claim in court that these were fireworks, which could be a significant defense against the more serious charges if proven. His political views are unknown currently.

It is clear that radicals are flocking to hot spots to foster rioting and attacks on police. It is also likely that, particularly on the Internet foreign and white supremacists and other groups are fueling the rioting.  Some white supremacists are likely to also be present at these riots. However, the notion that the riots are primarily or substantially the result of such groups is implausible.  The rioting was too spontaneous and widespread to fit such a theory.  Police are reporting the arrest of many from anarchist and Antifa groups in various cities, as discussed in the earlier column.

  1. Minneapolis mayor asks for $55 million federal bailout. Screw him and his pathological city government. I would favor disaster grants or loans to small businesses not insured and hurt by the thugs the mayor let roam the streets, but nothing for the city itself. It seems filled with woke corruptocrats.

  2. Rioting a State Offense but Explosives brings in ATF as a federal offense. For the crime of stupidity leave it up tot he jury as it may involve others – like the parents.

Robert Heinlein explained it this way. There is NO such thing as a Juvenile Delinquent for Delinquency refers to an Adult trait. But for every juvenile miscreant there is an Adult Delinquent.*

My comment is it should have been the parent but most likely is a Sociology major.

  3. The revelation that Floyd had Covid-19, the Wuhan virus, is significant. Damage from the virus is greater for those who are fat, hypertensive and have cardiovascular complications, all of which Floyd had topped off with a combination of potentially lethal drugs.

Damage to the lungs has been seen in a number of recovered patients. One must wonder if lung deterioration can be added to the growing list of alternate pathways leading to the death of this criminal.

    1. Prove it!!! Or are you like your god, Trump? Just let anything blow out your derrière and call it fact?

      1. Anon– “Just let anything blow out your derrière and call it fact?”

Yes, I decided to use the approach leftists use commenting here.

Meanwhile, do you know if Floyd, the criminal, also had diabetes? Seems he’s a likely candidate for it.

With his health morbidities and dangerous, illegal drug use, he was a man sitting on the tracks waiting for the freight train. Too bad he wasn’t dead before this mess happened. A man who breaks into a woman’s home armed with a gun has earned nobody’s compassion.

      2. You have to prove yourself having a very long list of unproven statements to account for…. first.

          1. It seems pretty clear that none of Floyd’s various co-morbidities, what ever they may have been, had anything at all to do with his death. About the only thing that is clear is that he died as a result of his run-in with Derek Chauvin.

But here’s one other thing that’s unclear: what was Chauvin’s motive in dragging an unarmed hand-cuffed man to the ground and pressing his knee into the back of his neck for seven-plus minutes? If you claim it’s because Chauvin was a racist, then you are simply making an assumption about something for which none of us has any evidence.

A vast assortment of despicable miscreants on twitter, on the streets, and in our grossly incompetent news media jumped to precisely that conclusion, and as a result there are numerous additional, pointless deaths of protesters, bystanders, and law enforcement officers, there has been tremendous property damage.

For what? The number of unarmed black men killed by police has become infinitesimally small — 9 in 2019, 3 if you discount the number that were actually fleeing from police. One could say, with only mild hyperbole, that an unarmed, law-abiding black man is more likely to be killed by lightning or by a shark attack than he is by a police officer. Nine dead black men at the hands of other black men, on the other hand, counts a relatively tame weekend in the south side of Chicago. Black Lives Matter doesn’t think that all black lives matter, and if they want black men killed at an even higher rate, then by all means, yes, defund the police.

      1. Face-down with a knee on his neck for almost NINE MINUTES. As David Roddy, Chief of Police in Chattanooga said:

“There no need to wait to see how “it plays out”. There is no need to put a knee on someone’s neck for NINE minutes. There IS a need to DO something. If you wear a badge and you don’t have an issue with this…turn it in.”

“Attorney: Report of drugs in Floyd’s system is ‘red herring’”

        https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/nation/2020/06/02/attorney-report-drugs-floyds-system-red-herring/111897820/

Minneapolis – A medical examiner’s finding that George Floyd had drugs in his system when he died is a “red herring” designed to draw attention away from the responsibility of a Minneapolis police officer who pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes, even after he stopped moving, an attorney for Floyd’s family said Tuesday.

Attorney Ben Crump also disputed an official autopsy that found Floyd’s death was caused by cardiac arrest as police restrained him and compressed his neck in a widely seen video that has sparked worldwide protests. The medical examiner also listed fentanyl intoxication and recent methamphetamine use, but not as the cause of death.

A separate autopsy commissioned for Floyd’s family concluded that that he died of asphyxiation due to neck and back compression.

“The cause of death was that he was starving for air. It was lack of oxygen. And so everything else is a red herring to try to throw us off,” Crump said Tuesday. He said the Hennepin County medical examiner went to great lengths to try to convince the public that what was shown on bystander video didn’t cause Floyd to die.

“It is an attempt to assassinate his character, after they assassinated him right then on the video,” he said.

Floyd, a black man who was in handcuffs at the time, died May 25 after Derek Chauvin, who is white, ignored bystander shouts to get off Floyd and Floyd’s cries that he couldn’t breathe. -Detroit News

bcc: Human Resources – Hey, do me a favor and drop this guy’s job application in File 13. I don’t know where this clown went to law school, but he thinks somebody calling the tox screen a “red herring” has a bearing on our trial strategy. What a maroon!

          1. Squeeky– Good response to this moron. You beat me to it. “Red herrings” indeed. Floyd was a criminal racked with several serious diseases and topped off with illegal drugs. He was positive for covid and not wearing a mask. That’s more serious than most major felonies these days, isn’t it?

Minneapolis Disaster: Fentanyl, Methamphetamine & Excited Delirium
          Law Officer ^ | June 3,2020 | Law Officer

The Case Against Officer Derek Chauvin Is Anything But Solid

The death of George Floyd after an interaction with the Minneapolis Police Department has rocked the world and while everyone reading this believes that an officer that put his knee in the back of Floyd’s neck for close to nine minutes was the cause of death, the facts and evidence are anything but that.

The Western Journal of Emergency Medicine says that “Excited delirium is characterized by agitation, aggression, acute distress and sudden death, often in the pre-hospital care setting. It is typically associated with the use of drugs Subjects typically die from a heart attack and the majority of the patients die before hospital arrival.”

And combined with methamphetamine, studies indicate that fentanyl has a higher chance of inducing fatal hyperthermia. And it just so happens that hyperthermia has a direct correlation with excited delirium.

Fentanyl is also unique among the opioids in its ability to cause muscle rigidity of the chest wall, diaphragm, and larynx. Known as “wooden chest syndrome,” it’s safe to say that the combination of this drug is a recipe for heart stoppage.

The American College of Emergency Physicians’ White Paper Report on Excited Delirium Syndrome recommends two specific responses by law enforcement if they observe signs of excited delirium.

Stating that “Deescalation does not have a high likelihood of changing outcomes significantly”

“The subjects require physical restraint (this is because if they continue to struggle it accelerates the death) combined with emergent sedation.”

“Once the decision to do this has been made, action needs to be swift and efficient, and performed with all responders present when feasible.”

      2. Squeeky:
Never have but this Floyd guy is a veritable leftist poster boy: drug dealer, armed home invader who points guns at women, violent offender addict, sort of employed and of course black. So he’s everything any momma leftist would want little Emma or Tyler or Maddie to bring home. Couple that with his fighting the cops in the police car and his size and I’d say Ellison has his work cut out for him on second degree. It’s more likely a manslaughter case with criminal indifference but anybody claiming this Floyd guy is a loss to society is delusional.

        1. mespo – I am on the side of Floyd having a seizure as the reason he was “uncooperative.” His height and weight made it difficult to get him in the car. And then for some unknown reason, he was taken out of the car.

Last I heard, the officers are refusing to give statements and Nick Reiketa, a MN criminal defense attorney thinks 2nd degree murder is over-charging. They are going to have a tough time making that case.

          1. Paul– I think you might be right about his health problems interceding at just the wrong moment. As for the officer being too aggressive, I think that is true. But seeing what the compassionate left is doing to the country at the moment I am in a mood to welcome an army of aggressive police who will beat the sh** out of the rioters rather than kneel to them. I am almost thinking I would vote to acquit so he will go out and do it again to the next criminal he takes down. I want law and order but if our government can’t provide it then unleash the Kracken.

            1. Young – I want to see baton and shield wielding cops beating their shields as they advance on the mob and beat the crap out of them. For God’s sake, de Blasio had cops preventing Jews from going to synagogue while other parts of NYC have no cops and are burning down.

              1. Paul– I am with you. New York and other cities have been a disgrace. I like your shield beating scene where real cops advance rather than kneel and where they fight rioters instead of worshippers. One funny thing is that the gun control arguments have been exploded. The police won’t protect you; they aren’t allowed to protect themselves. Even anti-gun liberals are lining up to buy guns. What a hell of a mess.

              2. The sick resentment politics of Trump on full display here. These JOs cheer bad things happening to “blue” states and cities, want people they disagree with beaten up in the streets, in a recent thread here cheered the murder of a couple who adapted a black kid, threaten civil war constantly, attack blacks for being b lack, and live for “libs” being dissed.

Yeah, that’s a hell of a platform. Hard to fathom how he has never had the support of Americans.

                1. Maybe they’d enjoy a couple of the Trump hate filled coloring books sure to be marketed by the Trump organization next year as they extend an effort into the publishing realm.

                2. Book– I am kind of enjoying the fact that Blue State polices are biting them in the butt good and hard. I especially like the reports of wealthy leftists cheering on the destruction and then screaming for police protection when the wave of violence they encouraged rolls into their neighborhoods. That ESPN guy was delicious, ” burn it” he yelled and then “wait! This is a nice gated community. Don’t come here, take it downtown. Police! Help me!:” What a big human turd he is. Then there was the progressive newspaper run by a woman who cowered in her basement while the rioters she praised tore her place apart. Many more like these. Yes, I am enjoying their horror at seeing the destruction they wished on others come knocking their doors down.

Why haven’t the rioters gone to Malibu? There’s lots of good stuff there. Hey, guys! Over here!

              3. Paul– Gatewaypundit has a video of a street gang in Chicago, the Latin Kings, who decided to protect their own neighborhood and chased Antifa to hell out. Citizens in Huntington Beach, Yucaipa, and Coeur d’Alene have been doing the same. If the government abets lawbreaking you end up with citizens taking over their own protection.

          1. Squeeky– Good article. Basically what I have been arguing at length. With these facts they cannot demonstrate that Floyd did not die from something other than restraint. He had too many pathways to quick death that should not be ignored. No proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

His big problem now is getting a fair trial and the media and governor and mayor, attorney general and maybe judges will likely do what they can to see that he doesn’t.

The motion for a change of venue should be interesting.

            1. Thanks. I am in the process of reading this article, linked in the original. An excerpt:
              ————
The typical course of ExDS in-volves acute drug intoxication, often a history of mental illness (especially those conditions involving paranoia), a struggle with law enforcement, physical or noxious chemical control measures or electrical control device (ECD) application, sudden and unex-pected death, and an autopsy which fails to reveal a definite cause of death from trauma or natural dis-ease.

As a consequence of the circumstances surrounding the death and the lack of a definitive cause on autopsy, there has been continued debate about the validity of the term “excited delirium.”This debate continues today. There are those who believe it to be a convenient term used to excuse and exonerate authorities when someone dies while in their custody. It is articulated by some that ExDSis a term or concept that has been “manufactured” as a law enforcement conspiracy or cover-up for brutality.

              https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/media/publications/acep_report_on_excited_delirium_syndrome_sept_2009.pdf
              ——–

I am still reading. I suspect we will be hearing a lot about Excited Delirium and also Wooden Chest Syndrome. From wiki:

“Wooden chest syndrome is a rigidity of the chest following the administration of high doses of opioids during anaesthesia.[1]

Wooden chest syndrome describes marked muscle rigidity — especially involving the thoracic and abdominal muscles — that is an occasional adverse effect associated with the intravenous administration of lipophilic synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. It can make ventilation difficult, and seems to be reversed by naloxone.[2] Hypoxemia, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, respiratory acidosis and increased intracranial pressure may supervene.[3]

One recent study hypothesized that chest wall rigidity might be at least partially responsible for some deaths related to intravenous injection of fentanyl, which increasingly is appearing in samples of heroin.[2] ”

              Girl Reporter

            2. And this, from the ACEP Report:
              ———
In subjects who do not respond to verbal calming and deescalation techniques, control measures area prerequisite for medical assessment and intervention. When necessary, this should be accomplished as rapidly and safely as possible. Recent research indicates that physical struggle is a much greater contributor to catecholamine surge and metabolic acidosis than other causes of exertion or noxious stimuli.Since these parameters are thought to con-tribute to poor outcomes in ExDS, the specific physical control methods employed should optimally minimize the time spent struggling, while safely achieving physical control. The use of multiple personnel with training in safe physical control measures is encouraged.

              and

In those cases where a death occurs while in custody, there is the additional difficulty of separating any potential contribution of control the underlying pathology. For example, was death due to the police control tool, or to positional asphyxia, or from ExDS, or from interplay of all these factors? Even in the situation where all caregivers agree that a patient is in an active delirious state, there is no proof of the most safe and effective control measure or therapy for what is most likely an extremely agitated patient. However, the existence of multiple EMS protocols as well as expert consensus suggests that there are practical and agreed-upon methods of therapy that are believed to lower morbidity or mortality. Sedative or dissociative agents such as benzodiazepines, major tranquilizers, and ketamine are suggested but there is no evidence yet to prove that these will result in a lower morbidity or mortality.

              and

There are well-documented cases of ExDS deaths with minimal restraint such as handcuffs without ECD use. This underscores that this is a potentially fatal syndrome in and of itself, sometimes reversible when expert medical treatment is immediately available.

              1. Whoever his defense counsel is he would be losing out if he didn’t take advantage of some of your postings here. I would.

      3. Floyd: fentanyl, methamphetamine, hypertension, severe multifocal arteriosclerosis, and now COVID-19.

One foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

More than one reason for him to be dead.

  4. So this guy’s a lefty. He looks like a southern redneck who hangs out at The Dew Drop Inn.

    1. “So this guy’s a lefty.”

We don’t know for certain, but that won’t stop you from leaping to conclusions.

      1. Anonymous, you might have a point. I’ll bet he’s a John Bircher.

  5. What a good lookin fella. I’ll bet he’s just about to turn his life around.

  6. Mayor DeBlasio is Joseph Stalin and New York City is Berlin.

  7. Everyone should leave Matthew Lee Rupert alone. He is my dealer for crystal meth and what sells is good stuff. I could not make it without him. How else do I fuel my activity on this legal blog?

While I deny any claim to his great looking gold teeth, I do his boyfriend’s nails, Fuchsia of course, and we have a special relationship. You Trumpsters are just jealous I don’t do your nails

  8. If it was “white nationalists” or “Russian agents” rioting and burning property, do you think it would be going on for the fifth night in a row? Would celebrities be contributing to the arrestees bail funds?

    1. No, Antonio, the SS would be turned loose.if any but protected classes rioted like this.

  9. You often show “in fairness” to Dems by noting a few outliers. It would be more fair of you when you mention the implausibility of “white supremacists”, how many have been arrested.
0, none, zero, as far as I know.

But multiple Antifa style folk have been.

Of course, you’re not reporting the news, merely analyzing some aspects of it. With good links, thanks.
“Miller said that a review of 686 arrests since Thursday found that one of out of seven were from outside New York City, including Iowa, Nevada, Texas and a number of other states.”

Doesn’t say if any were Russians or white supremacists – so I believe that none have so far been identified.

As usual, Trump is more right, more truthful, than the Fake News.

  10. Antifa is obviously innocent… thank you demo libbies, you’re so truthful and so schmart !

  11. when I hear about explosives, I think FBI entrapment. Entrapment: find lonely desperate, give them tools like explosives, arrest them as soon as they take any action whatsoever, issue press release claiming superior police work.

    1. When is the last time you saw anyone with gold teeth ?
Is it a photoshop joke ?

            1. I knew a black dentist who did very well installing grills. Odd that people who are so poor that they have to steal from whites can still afford to fill their mouths with gold. If a race war starts remember to carry pliers.

              1. Just like your ancestors did against the Jews in mother Germany? Hmm 🤔 must be passed on from generation to generation!!! That’s a fascist move not Antifa! You outed your ownselves.

    2. So this first thing you think is that some authoritative entity/being encouraged him to do something illegal? On what basis?

Then apparently your theory would be that the Peoria office of the FBI has nothing better to do than to troll for idiots in the grand metropolis of Galesburg (32K pop.)? Did they train him in the use of explosives, and evasive tactics? Do you really believe the FBI would trust this ‘potential deep-cover agent’ to complete any task beyond getting a cup of black coffee from the nearby Starbucks bringing back the right change?

      1. I don’t know about this single case above, but I just read 30 pages plus from 2 of our lefty papers of record on the “Base” white supremes busts and their ‘relation to atom waffen’.

It was said to be the greatest resurgent threat of neo-nazis in the western hemisphere. On and on and on they blabbered. To make a long lib self fluffing flatulence short, I noted:

A total of 3, yet 4 persons of the ‘Base’. That was “the invasion” of western civilization, and one was an FBI plant – it appears it was the Canadian “former military”. Could be a second one of the 3 was also FBI. They bugged audio/video the apartment they had in a long going and on running investigation …years apparently… eventually they got one of them saying let’s go down to the new virginia “gun rally” and raise some heck. Was likely the FBI stooge promoting that, after all years of ‘investigating’ gets boring with nothing going on.
So they also had the Canadian mil anmd one other making some ‘assault rifles’ with the 80% lowers, though of course the articles made it sound like crimes.

They busted the unholy nazi threat to the world of course before anything happened. Some other threesome in Georgia was remarked as also taken down I guess at some point they yakked it up on a website.

Oh, the “gun rally” at another point was described as an anti-gun rally with some vague link to legislation. They get so busy making mountains out of dust particles, spinning this and spooging that any twist is ok, even directly opposing statements.

I left the co-linked articles thinking – they could get more on any weekday night in the ghetto at 100 residences in every large city in the USA all year long.

Of course they went through the whole spiel in 30 pages, like they do every time, outlining the books they love to cite, the SPLC and the ADL commentary, the plot for a white ethnostate somewhere in the upper northwest… it was like a Trump Dossier…

It also reminds me of the campaign finance violator Dinesh Dsouza – what is usually let go with a warning or just a small fine, instead, because of his politics (like a horrifying white national nazi racist supremacist under every starbucks cup), was turned into a home raid with everything confiscated and 6 FBI agents searching desperately for any sorts of other non related anything that could be turned into a crime – and finding nothing, instead of a campaign finance mini fine or slap on the wrist or just a warning it’s against the strict letter of the law but often not enforced at all, they gave him prison time…

Yes, we know lefties, the terrible, terrible world ending crimes… spend endless agents and time and efforts… because “you’re applying the law fairly and without partisan rancor and criminal misconduct and bias”.

  12. So they opened the door to the prisons and jails “because muh covid”.
I heard as everyone else did, Saddam Hussein “opened the doors to the prisons and jails”.
    Next thing you know…
Is anyone alive and sentient anymore ?
