Hill-Harris Poll: Sixty-One Percent Of Voters Now Support A Trump Concession Speech

We recently discussed the Politico poll showing that a majority of people were now calling for President Donald Trump to concede the election while a plurality supported such an immediate concession.  We discussed that the number calling for concession would likely continue to increase and a new Hill-Harris poll would seem to support that view. Some sixty-one percent in the poll believe Trump should give a concession speech. At a minimum, some of us have called for President Trump to call for “ascertaining” the election for Biden so that a transition can proceed unimpeded. That would not concede the election, but it would be the responsible course of action. It is long overdue. Some of us called for ascertainment over two weeks ago.

The poll put the question a bit awkwardly. Instead of asking if voters thought Trump should concede, it asked whether Trump should give a concession speech.  That was more ambiguous than the Politico poll that asked if Trump should concede immediately.

Seventy-one percent of Democratic voters, 60 percent of independent voters, and 53 percent of Republican voters said it is important for Trump to give a concession speech.

Again, I believe that it is important to have the allegations raised by the Trump campaign addressed transparently and expeditiously in the interests of national unity. I was critical of the press conference yesterday because of its heated rhetoric and unproven allegations of a global Communist conspiracy. Last night, Tucker Carlson also criticized the lack of evidence offered to support the global conspiracy. Again, this is not the time for “opening statements” but hard evidence.

There were plausible objections raised about over voting, conditional ballots, and other issues. However, those legal claims were repeatedly cut off by sweeping descriptions of a Communist conspiracy tied to Venezuela and Cuba. Absent hard evidence, more voters will be calling for concession. The rhetoric bordered on a rave at points and overwhelmed the specific challenges being planned in various states. It undermined the credibility of these lawsuits.

Last night, Giuliani continued with that rhetorical onslaught and claimed not only a national conspiracy but one directed by Biden.  He also claimed evidence that a “large truck” was seen pulling up at 4:30 am into a Detroit voting center loaded with Biden ballots in trash cans and shopping bags.  Such a violation would likely be caught on videotape and the conspiracy would involve a large number of criminal co-conspirators. It is time to see that evidence.

    Fox Viewers Are Furious!

    In the hours after Mr. Carlson’s monologue, word of which spread quickly across social media, Mr. Trump’s supporters not only went after Mr. Carlson but also Fox News. The network has become a source of particular frustration with many on the right after taking a more skeptical view of Mr. Trump’s claims about voter fraud and refusing to reconsider its call on election night that Mr. Biden would win Arizona.

    That decision, which proved correct, deeply angered the president and led him to start promoting some of Fox’s smaller competitors on cable like Newsmax and One America News Network as more suitable alternatives for his large and loyal following.

    All week on networks like Newsmax and OANN and talk radio programs, the president’s supporters have been given a steady diet of interviews with Trump allies, campaign officials and news stories that promote allegations of fraud with little or no context.

    One lawyer who is assisting the Trump campaign in its efforts, Lin Wood, went unquestioned this week on Mr. Levin’s show when he made the fantastical claim that Mr. Trump had won the election with 70 percent of the vote. A story that OANN broadcast on Friday afternoon falsely declared, “The state of Michigan is back in play,” giving credence to Mr. Trump’s extraordinary but almost certainly unsuccessful efforts to delay certification of the vote in Detroit.

    Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review and sometimes critic of the president who called his refusal to concede “absurd and sophomoric,” said that whether it was a Republican politician or a talk-show host, breaking the will that many Trump supporters have to believe he is the rightful winner was extremely difficult.

    Mr. Lowry added that he thought Mr. Carlson’s words were “admirable” and had told the Fox host so himself. “It’s one thing for people who’ve been opposed to Trump all along, or mixed, to say something like that,” Mr. Lowry said. “It’s another thing for a leader of the populist wing of the conservative movement to call it out.”

    A question for conservative media that are more independent of Mr. Trump is how much of the market the unabashedly pro-Trump media dominates in the future. Some scholars said they expected that audience to be substantial.

    Mr. Carlson is no ordinary Trump critic. He has been one of the president’s most aggressive defenders in prime time, especially when it came to standing up for Mr. Trump as he attacked African-American politicians, athletes and the racial justice activists in the Black Lives Matter movement. He has also generally bought into the disproved notion that voter fraud is a widespread problem — a popular position with Mr. Trump and on Mr. Carlson’s network.

    He has not been shy in criticizing aspects of the president’s policies he disagrees with, whether the bombing raid in Iraq that killed Iran’s top general, Qassim Suleimani, or Mr. Trump’s failure to take the coronavirus pandemic seriously when it started spreading last winter. But he has never gone out on a limb like this, with the president and his followers so besieged.

    Mr. Carlson, no doubt aware that many in his audience, including possibly the president himself, would not like what they were hearing, walked a fine line on Thursday night. He insisted that he and his producers “took Sidney Powell seriously,” and that he had invited her on the show to present her evidence.

    He also tried to reassure his audience that he was on their side after all, explaining how he always kept an open mind about alleged cover-ups like the one Ms. Powell has promoted. “We don’t dismiss anything,” he said. “We literally do U.F.O. segments.”

    Okay, so let’s even grant that it happened…

    – Someone was close enough to the “large truck” to see the contents.
    – They verified the contents of the “trash cans and shopping bags” as Biden ballots.
    – Which means at the very least: they were near the truck with enough time to open the envelopes, read and tally the ballots to see that they were Biden ballots.
    – They did not object to the arrival of “suspicious” ballots.
    – They took no video.
    – They took no pictures.
    – They allowed the votes to be counted officially.

    I thought this was the party of alphas and people that don’t back down. Wouldn’t that brave, brave soul have stood up and put a stop to it in real time?

    What a chump you’d have to be to let that happen in front of you, only to whine about it online after the fact.

Henry Clay, Francis Scott Key, John Randolph, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Bushrod Washington, Charles Carroll, Millard Fillmore, John Marshall, Roger B. Taney, Andrew Jackson, Daniel Webster, Stephen A. Douglas, and Abraham Lincoln were members. Clay presided at the group’s first meeting.8

            Measures to resettle Blacks in Africa were soon undertaken. Society member Charles Fenton Mercer played an important role in getting Congress to pass the Anti-Slave Trading Act of March 1819, which appropriated $100,000 to transport Blacks to Africa. In enforcing the Act, Mercer suggested to President James Monroe that if Blacks were simply returned to the coast of Africa and released, they would probably be re-enslaved, and possibly some returned to the United States. Accordingly, and in cooperation with the Society, Monroe sent agents to acquire territory on Africa’s West coast — a step that led to the founding of the country now known as Liberia. Its capital city was named Monrovia in honor of the American President.9

            With crucial Society backing, Black settlers began arriving from the United States in 1822. While only free Blacks were at first brought over, after 1827, slaves were freed expressly for the purpose of transporting them to Liberia. In 1847, Black settlers declared Liberia an independent republic, with an American-style flag and constitution.10

            By 1832 the legislatures of more than a dozen states (at that time there were only 24), had given official approval to the Society, including at least three slave-holding states.11 Indiana’s legislature, for example, passed the following joint resolution on January 16, 1850:12

            to inquire into the expediency of providing for the acquisition of territory either in the Central or South American states, to be colonized with colored persons from the United States who are now free, or who may hereafter become free, and who may be willing to settle in such territory as a dependency of the United States, with ample guarantees of their personal and political rights.

            Blair, quoting Thomas Jefferson, stated that Blacks could never be accepted as the equals of Whites, and, consequently, urged support for a dual policy of emancipation and deportation, similar to Spain’s expulsion of the Moors. Blair went on to argue that the territory acquired for the purpose would also serve as a bulwark against any further encroachment by England in the Central and South American regions.13

In the context of their American experience, they said they wanted “free dom” but what they really wanted was “free stuff.” The critical problem is that the governmental redistribution of wealth, specific welfare, public assistance, charity and alms for the poor” were/are all irrefutably unconstitutional and cannot be taxed for. Additionally, freed slaves became illegal aliens upon issuance of the unconstitutional emancipation proclamation and confiscation of legal private property by Lincoln, and must have been immediately and summarily deported as the Naturalization Act of 1802 was in full force and effect requiring immigrants to be “…free white person(s).”

Joe Biden’s Popular Vote lead is almost 6 million, or 3.8%. Biden’s lead is well within the boundaries of an average victory.

      Trump is simply using the Electoral College system as a pretext to somehow litigate his way to a freak outcome. In this pursuit Trump shows us, once and for all, how stupid and archaic the Electoral College system is. This litigation hinges on a scheme to completely over-ride the majority of voters. The country should never have to go through this B.S. again.

December 14th is the designed completion date for this process. Everything in-between are steps in this process. All the calls for concession, blah, blah, blah, are white noise to the process. Trump didn’t create the induced variations to this years electoral process. He and the rest of the country may actually be victims of it. Once the constitutionally allowable legal challenges are completed, then we’ll have the final vote tally, not before. I would expect those confident in the current status of this process to not whine like b*itches when the constitution is followed.
