Michael Cohen is now a prisoner rights advocate. As someone who has run a prisoner project for decades, it came as something of a surprise to me but Cohen is now a reformer . . . just ask Tony Meatballs. The reference came up in an interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber in which Cohen explained that he only filed for early release under the First Step Act (Trump’s much touted criminal justice reform bill) because he promised “my buddies Tony Meatballs and Big Minty, that I wasn’t going to stop once I got out” in seeking to reform our prisons. You see, it is really not for Mike Cohen. It is for Tony Meatballs.
For full disclosure, I have been a critic of Cohen long before he broke with the President. His conduct as an attorney was a disgrace to the bar for years. Cohen has been gaming the system his entire career. He claimed urgent medical needs for release from prison. Of course, he previously claimed health problems in failing to appear to testify only to be spotted out on the town for a fancy dinner. Cohen previously (and implausibly) reinvented himself as a redemptive sinner and received financial support from Trump critics.
Now he is repackaging himself as a prison reformer. It is only a coincidence that his prison reforms benefit . . . Michael Cohen.
It continues to be impressive how Cohen was able to be immediately rehabilitate himself with the media by turning against Trump. Like John Bolton (who was persona non grata until he became a Trump foe), Cohen went from Trump thug to truth teller with a single flip. While MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell (and recently Jake Tapper) have pledged not to interview Trump figures because they are liars, Cohen and other former Trump associates remain popular guests despite histories of lies and fraud.
In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to nine counts including tax evasion and fraud and was sentenced to three years in federal prison. He served time at Otisville Correctional Facility in upstate New York — considered one of the most accommodating federal facilities.
However, Cohen said he is a new man because “One of the things I said I would continue to do is fight for prison reform” and, consistent with his prior history, he found the reform begins with his own self-interest.
He filed a couple of lawsuits challenging the refusal of the government to give him a more than yearlong sentencing break he earned under the First Step Act. He insists that he is entitled to both his good time and his First Step credits amounting to 359 days.
This is after Cohen secured compassionate release to avoid COVID-19 infection despite a history of bending past home confinement rules to the breaking point.
Cohen insists that he earned the benefits under the First Step Act by taking classes like “Drug Education: Freedom from Drugs,” “Health/Fitness,” “Victim Impact,” and “Business Start-Up.” He also cited 500 hours of work at Water Treatment and the Pipe Shop H.V.A.C.
Cohen “first step” sounds a lot like his past steps in seeking every benefit for himself.
Yet, no one would be prouder than Tony Meatballs.
The communists (liberals. progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs) in America hate and will do ANYTHING to defeat, neutralize and eliminate Americans (i.e. people who live under the dominion of the
Constitution and Bill of Rights; conservatives like the American Founders).
They did!
They corrupted the election of 2020 and they tampered with the vote counts late at night in key states, while states such as Florida and Ohio counted, reported and declared Trump the winner before midnight and
without delay.
What would George Washington do?

I have posted several times that mask mandates appear to be ineffective and may actually increase the chance of infection.

At first impression it seems unlikely that wearing a mask could increase risk but I suggested earlier that a mask may make people feel safer than they really are and lead to engaging in activities likely to lead to exposure. Another study from Edinburgh says people do feel more comfortable and assured when they wear masks, so maybe that is a factor.
I wear a mask as a courtesy, but I notice that my hands are near my face more often doing adjustments of the straps and fabric. Hands to face are a known mode of virus infection and should be discouraged rather than made likely by largely useless masks.
No chance the Fuhrer Newsom of California will relax mandates likely to increase rates of infection short of a successful recall effort.
There’s a lot of contradictory material out there, some of it generated by physicians and allied professionals who lack expertise in what they’re studying. The people who understand what masks can and cannot do are biomedical engineers.
California appears to have been hit last spring with the less contagious version of COVID. My wager is that their current problems stem from having a great many vulnerable people. New York’s not having similar problems because their population went through the mangle last spring. You can see this abroad as well. Germany and eastern Europe largely escaped injury last spring. They’ve been getting hammered the last couple of months.
In the study I linked Florida counties that lifted mask mandates had a slower rate of increase than counties that maintained the mandate. It isn’t just California that exhibits this phenomenon.
Young, I checked out “Rational Ground’. They look like nothing more than a far-right, fringe group opposed to mask mandates. Only a fool would consider ‘Rational Ground’ a credible source of public health information. It’s not even clear if any real doctors or scientists are affiliated with Rational Ground.
You could have a crack at thinking for youself.
The more California doubled down on restrictions the more the infections rose each day. I watched and wondered about it. It seemed almost an inverse proportion.
If that were a massive experiment you were conducting would you conclude that masks are very effective ?
Don’t hunt for experts. We have not been well served by them this year. Use your own intelligence. If masks work then they should be working. In many places they are not effective judging by infections.
Avoid crowds, particularly in enclosed spaces. A mask won’t protect you in that environment.
By the way, I suspect the current surge is coming to an end but then I thought summer would see a greater reduction than happened. It’s like trying to find the best path through a field of rattlesnakes every day. You can’t relax your guard.
Young, today I was reading that rural regions of the country are alienating health workers when they need them most. Hospitals were closing in rural regions long before the pandemic. So maintaining healthcare workers is crucial to rural America.
Yet healthcare workers in rural to small town regions are sick of locals like Young. And honestly Young is just a nerd rebelling. Young pretends to be a rugged freedom fighter; constantly linking “California” with “Fascists”. That’s the nerd who never smoked pot thinking he’s a rebel.
All across the red states there are Trumpers like Young arguing with healthcare workers. Berating them with nerdy rebel attitudes. Self-respecting doctors don’t want to deal with that! They’d rather move on bigger markets to get away from the Young’s.

And two of the control groups are Texas and Florida — both with far fewer fascist restrictions; both doing a far better job of managing Covid.
Sam– That seems to be true judging by the reported cases. It seems Fascist California has discovered the wrong thing to do and is hammering it in good and hard. Of course they are gutting businesses at the same time.

Actually, Article 1, Section 8, provides Congress the power to tax for “…general Welfare…,” the definition of which is irrefutably all Americans.
General means all and all means general.
Congress has no power to tax for foreign countries, individuals or small groups.
I have no doubt that even communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs) can read and understand the English language and the “manifest tenor” of the words of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
