CDC Admits That It Miscalculated The Risk Of Outdoor Covid Transmission

The New York Times is reporting that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was relying on a faulty study in declaring a 10 percent chance of the transmission of Covid-19 outdoors. After using the “miscalculation” to support outdoor mask mandates for over 300 million Americans, the CDC now says that it is more like one percent. It is astonishing that such a key and controversial component of our Covid policies was not just based on a miscalculation but never actively questioned or reexamined to discover the error.

The Times’ Leonhardt noted “There is not a single documented Covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table.”

The outdoor risk has been a major source of disagreement with many contesting mandatory mask rules for those walking or working or recreating outside. It turns out that, according to the Times, the 10% benchmark is based “partly on a misclassification” of virus transmission in Singapore at various construction sites. Those sites were incorrectly described as outdoor but now appear to have actually taken place in indoor settings. Singapore also classified settings that were a mix of indoors and outdoors as outdoors, including construction building sites.

The real risk is one percent or less.  Yet, cities like Chicago closed whole parks — magnifying the isolation and depression for citizens.  Various cities like New York closed playgrounds despite being outdoors and used by the lowest risk population for Covid. States closed parks and trails that could have been key areas of release for people during lock downs.  When Washington, D.C., issued its mandatory outdoor mask in July 2020, the city stressed:

Dr. Robert Redfield, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the World Health Organization, and the District of Columbia Department of Health are all agreed that wearing masks when social distancing is impossible to maintain can reduce the spread of the disease dramatically.

We spent trillions on this pandemic and the issue of masks and curtailing outside movements was continually in the news. Yet, there appears to have been little time or money spent on the basis for this key component of the mandatory policies supported by the CDC and mandated by many states.

I can understand the reliance on an article in the prestigious Journal of Infectious Diseases. I cannot understand the failure to closely examine its basis since it appears to have been the primary basis for the policy. Hundreds of millions of Americans were impacted as well as the economy. Yet, CDC is only now noting that the article appears to have been fundamentally flawed in its underlying assumptions and calculations.

  1. You are to recall that the CDC produced the first official test for Covid-19, that flagged distilled water as positive.

Restaurants were made to close outdoor dining, some went out of business forever, impoverishing their owners, and kids like my own son were barred from playing outside at places such as public parks. Absurdly, joggers and cyclists exercising alone outside were asked to wear a mask in some parts of CA.

Of course the CDC miscalculated the rate of transmission from available data, off by an order of magnitude.

    Of course it did.

For all those who believe in better living through government, that government agencies conduct better work than private enterprise, the series of miscalculation and mistakes by the CDC contribute towards the belief that private industry can generate a better product by being answerable for its actions.

I have many such anecdotes of incompetence and lack of accountability that contributed to my own jaded view of certain bloated government agencies.

    1. OK, Karen, you need remedial reading. The CDC relied on data from a published source. It did not conduct the study. The study it relied on included data were flawed. So, the CDC didn’t miscalculate anything. Turley’s complaint is that they should have realized that some of the data from India included people who were partly indoors, which skewed the results higher than they should have been. The CDC was honest and corrected its error. The error was not politically motivated. You have a jaded view of government because you are a disciple of Trump and the Hate Network. Why don’t you have a jaded view of the Big Lie?

      1. So now “science” is simply regurgitating blather from an “accepted source”?
There was data available from April 2020 that showed the risk of outdoor transmission to be negligible.
Or course that’s what king Fauci has “always been saying”.

  2. China intentionally released “China Flu, 2020” to reduce its elderly population and degrade the West through deployment of a financial/military bio-weapon attack. Viruses do not escape labs or Virology Institutes. Redundancy in security systems would simply be increased were the possibility of an escape detected. Fail safe inspections of fail safe procedures maintains fail safe systems as fail safe…unless the operator rejects a fail safe condition and orders the escape of a virus.

Their labor force began to shrink for the first time two years ago and their demographic dividend will certainly fade. Theoretically China could fix this issue with immigration but they would have to annex Indonesia completely, three times. And besides they are xenophobic. Their decline will be slow and certain and cannot be reversed.”

“China’s Birthrate Drops, As Census Data Warn Of Aging Population” – May 11, 2021

China soon won’t be the world’s most populous country. The government released data Tuesday from a once-a-decade census conducted late last year that shows population growth has slowed to a crawl. Meanwhile, the proportion of senior citizens in China has expanded, the cohort of working-age people is contracting, and births are down. The data casts a fresh spotlight on one of the ruling Communist Party’s biggest long-term socio-economic challenges as it turns 100 this year: How to keep the economy humming and incomes rising while the population shrinks and ages. The proportion of people 15-59 years of age made up about two thirds of the population, but dropped by about 7 percentage points from 2010, while that of people aged 60 or older rose by more than 5 percentage points. That means fewer workers will be supporting more retirees in the years to come. “The aging of the population has further deepened, and in the coming period [we will] continue to face pressure for the long-term, balanced development of the population,” Ning Jizhe, head of China’s statistics office, said at a news conference Tuesday in Beijing. The census showed that in 2020, China’s population reached 1.412 billion people. That’s an increase of about 72 million — more than the population of France — since the last census a decade earlier. The tally excludes Hong Kong and Macau. Still, the average annual rate of increase was about 0.53%, which marked a deceleration from the rate during the decade leading up to the 2010 census. Decades of stellar economic growth have been underpinned by favorable demographics in China. But the calculus is changing, and China’s average income remains relatively low. Ning said the population would eventually peak, but it was unclear precisely when. Some demographers think it will happen in the next few years, and India will almost certainly take up the mantle of world’s most populous country well before China conducts its next census in 2030. “We are really seeing both a domestic and global shift in terms of demographics,” said Wang Feng, a professor of sociology at the University of California, Irvine. Chinese policymakers have sought to manipulate demographics to meet economic needs, starting in the late 1970s with the “one child policy” that limited the vast majority of couples in China to one child. In 2016, however, the ruling Communist Party loosened that policy. But birthrates have remained anemic – in part because the one child policy itself created a drop in the number of women of childbearing age. In March, China’s central bank recommended in a report that the government scrap birth restrictions altogether “and sweep off difficulties women faced during pregnancy, childbirth, and kindergarten and school enrollment by all means.” “If China narrowed the gap with the United States over the past 40 years, relying on cheap labor and a huge demographic dividend, what will it rely on in the next 30 years? This is worthy of our deep consideration,” the report said. One of the biggest changes highlighted by the census was China’s speedy urbanization. Last year, city-dwellers accounted for 63.89% of the population, an increase of more than 14 percentage points from the prior census, while the rural population fell to about a third of the population. “Just in 10 years’ time, China has really further transformed to be a really different society,” Wang said. “Hundreds of millions of people … moved to be urban residents. But at the same time about 200 million urban residents do not have local household registration, which means they are not entitled to local benefits. And that just shows how tremendous a challenge China faces in integrating these people into the cities,” he said. According to the census, Chinese mothers gave birth to 12 million babies last year, a drop of 22% from the year before. The South China Morning Post said it was a near-six decade low — and well below the rate needed for a stable population. China’s gender imbalance persisted but showed slight improvement, according to the statistics bureau. About 51.24% of the population was male in 2020, while 48.76% were female, the data showed.

Anything less than N95 and following strict protocol is functionally equivalent to flipping a coin, at best, or increasing infections, at worst. Ironically, with the virus already in the wild, with immigration reform, too, the lockdowns were a primary staging ground for increasing infections. Social contagion driving herd stampedes. Denying and stigmatizing early, inexpensive, low-risk treatments increased excess deaths. Also, Planned Parent/hood is one of the few venues and practices with excess year-over-year mortality.

Separately, approximate 80% of cases are in people who are overweight, or otherwise metabolically compromised. Disease progression is most likely in people over 60 with cardiovascular comorbidities. A large minority, perhaps majority, have preexisting (or coreactive) immunity, keyed on the protein encapsulating the genetic material. A large minority acquired natural immunity through exposure.

  4. As a retired pharmacist I can’t imagine making a 1% dosage error much less a 10% dosage error. Does anyone believe they will see this error in the MSM? Does not fit their narrative.

    1. ?????

      Glad you retired, you’re innumerate.

      I can’t imagine making a 1% dosage error much less a 10% dosage error.

That’s not even close to what happened. What happened happened is the CDC said dosage was TEN units, when the actual dosage was ONE/TENTH that much. It sure in hell is not a 10% error.

    2. Fair enough. When was the last time there were millions dying and you had to create doses for them when you had no drugs to use or even any idea of how to treat the patients? Your criticism is not lost on me. I am giving the CD a pass due to the fog of war.

  5. Oh let’s get serious Fauci is in a Senate hearing today weaseling out of his support and knowledge of psychopaths engineer bat viruses into something that can be transmitted to humans and yet be indistinguishable from a natural occurring disease. And what point is the good Professor exposing today? I forgot, oh the miscalculation of the outdoor spread? I think we may be straining a gnat here and swallowing a camel. Good God, right in front of the whole world that little prick acknowledges his involvement in this crap and was allowed to leave the building without being put under arrest?

  6. Hmm….A mistake? I buy it. Unfortunately these things happen and there is slipshod work during times of stress and pressure which everyone was under. I will give the CDC a pass on this one because it inflated the risk and not deflated that risk which could have caused more harm. At some point when the hot wash is done, I hope some serious work goes into effect to try and prevent this from happening again. Before anyone loses their mind about their rights, remember there are still 583,000 dead Americans and the number is still climbing. This is not over and I prefer extra caution than not enough in this case. While I understand Professor Turley’s concern and questions, I am not going to overreact. It is certainly a concern, but no harm this time. let us not give those that do not want to wear masks or get the vaccines any more reasons to resist. This one particular case needs to left to lay until another day when cooler heads can prevail.

    1. First off, you believe the number of those dead attributed to Sars II… During a period when all other diseases virtually vanish as a cause of death. The perverted financial promise to hospitals to diagnose and hospitalize as many as possible. Nevermind the seemingly intentional incubation of the disease in blue state nursing homes. Nope nothing is to be questioned here. Just give em a pass

      1. No, there are still plenty of deaths recorded. What you are espousing has already been discredited.

        1. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvss/coronavirus/Alert-2-New-ICD-code-introduced-for-COVID-19-deaths.pdf

“COVID-19 should be reported on the death certificate for all decedents where the disease caused or is
assumed to have caused or contributed to death. Certifiers should include as much detail as possible based
on their knowledge of the case, medical records, laboratory testing, etc. If the decedent had other chronic
conditions such as COPD or asthma that may have also contributed, these conditions can be reported in Part
          II. “

    2. I’m still worried about losing my rights. People died, yes. We are still alive and I want to live my life with my rights in tact. Life without freedom is not Life. Live free or die.

      1. I like the fact you are so cavalier about others dying. Exactly what rights have you lost?

    3. The Quiet Man,
Browse through this list of rationalizations and tell me how many unethical rationalizations you used in your comment.

Your comment shows some real gullibility problems and a complete lack of understand about your own Liberty. What’s sad, and a real problem in the United States right now, is there are millions and millions of other people out there that think just like you and you’d use that fact as another rationalization to justify unethical actions.

A special note to “The Quiet Man”; it’s better to be thought the fool and remain “the quiet man” as opposed to start talking or writing and remove all doubt.

      1. Oh so right! The Quiet Man is a reflection of those drinking the kool aid keeping the rest of us tied up in this nonsense. I’m at my wits end with the stupid people making decisions affecting us. A retired nurse.

      2. Well,

Let me try it this way. When this thing hit NYC, I was there as a first responder. I was in the hospitals in Queens when it was ground zero when everyone was told to stay away and I was on the COVID floors. At that time, nobody had any idea of what to do, it was all done on the fly and yes there were mistakes. Information was almost on-existent. The disease was only three months old and China was not talking.

I saw the the bodies stacked up in the reefer trailers last year in April, some of which are still there unclaimed. I saw how exhausted hospital staff was trying to prevent this thing from breaking the system. None of them think it is fake. Say what you want or will, I was there and you were not. If you want to live with the fantasy that this is fake, feel free. 583,000 dead Americans as of this writing will disagree. Feel free to call me gullible, it is your right. It is also your right to be wrong, ignorant and uneducated in this matter.

it’s better to be thought the fool and remain “the quiet man” as opposed to start talking or writing and remove all doubt.

Maybe you should follow your own advice.

        1. Quiet Man, There is no doubt that Covid was a horrible disaster for the world and has caused tremendous pain and suffering. The disease has a high transmission rate and can kill fast.

I don’t think this disease is fake, nor do I think there has been honesty by the CDC or news media regarding the disease. Too much information has been excluded. We had some of that problem with AIDS (HIV). Too much politics.

You were on the ground, but the terrain was quite variable and some of the terrain saw the same hospitals bursting with the sick during past flu seasons. NYC was not prepared. Those in charge were not the one’s to lead a city during such a dangerous time.

          1. You were on the ground, but the terrain was quite variable and some of the terrain saw the same hospitals bursting with the sick during past flu seasons. NYC was not prepared. Those in charge were not the one’s to lead a city during such a dangerous time.

I understand all about everyone being on the edge, including me. When it hit, nobody was ready. Mistakes from all sections abounded. Cuomo is going to burn for his because his choices were plain stupid. When it hit, I was not for closing the country like others were because the country was not sick at the same time. As it spread, it needed to be done. Nobody did a good job, but that is the nature of these events. For those that want to scream about the CDC, that is backseat driving as far as I am concerned. Mistakes happen because of blind spots, exhaustion, old fashion mistakes, and yes, arrogance. but they happen, that is the nature of large scale events. This is the fog of war. As I noted from my first post, I seriously hope the powers that be learn from this and make the changes necessary to prepare for the future.

As for herd immunity, I do not think we are there yet. At the same time, we do not know the numbers. there is no central data base and that is truly a shame. Nobody is sure why. I can tell you from my position, there is plenty of both conversation and criticism of how some of this is handled.

            1. “When it hit, I was not for closing the country like others were because the country was not sick at the same time. As it spread, it needed to be done.”

I think the first half is logical and true. The second half requires more consideration taking into account that we knew it was a respiratory illness that mostly killed the sick and the old. That was known pretty early.

” Nobody did a good job, but that is the nature of these events.”

That is true. Having hindsight is an advantage, but some people did a better job than others. Some people like Cuomo completely failed and were dishonest about their failures causing more harm and pain.

“For those that want to scream about the CDC, that is backseat driving as far as I am concerned.”

I don’t think so if we are talking about the entire bureaucracy D.C. provided. They were very slow, and as politics dictate, some of the people were there too long. They were too comfortable, fat, and lazy.

Additionally, we have some questions about American involvement with the Wuhan laboratory and now many of those same people are running the show. Without concluding as to what they did or didn’t do, they shouldn’t be there today.

” This is the fog of war. “’

That is why during a crisis we need better people. Those that can see through the fog. Those that are accustomed to the stresses. Those that can function under the stress and have no prior history that they wish to protect.

Did we learn from earlier years? Not enough. We knew all the risks, and still, we were unprepared. The entire system was flawed. One of the finer accomplishments of the administration of the time was to unleash private industry. Every day the bureaucracy was totally in charge was one more day lost.

“As for herd immunity, I do not think we are there yet. “

Herd immunity is hard to obtain especially if variations in the virus occur and if our immunity is limited in time. We do not yet know the time factor involved for immunity though it is increasing as time passes.

The obvious critical point that was quite near the onset was that the sick and elderly needed to be voluntarily isolated. Those in the gray area needed greater protection and the rest could function with mild precautions. No matter what we did would have led to a lot of deaths, but the future deaths from the unknown (easy examples, suicide, and drugs; poverty) might be much greater because of the awful way we handled lockdowns.

Another factor is the canceling policy of the leftist elements. I am not talking about normal people that might want more or less government involvement. There was a fight for control and lockdowns have been a key to control along with the cancel culture.

Think of how we handled leukemia and other diseases that we have partially conquered. We didn’t cancel alternative thoughts. We included them. We didn’t say do nothing and wait until the person is sick enough to go to the hospital and then die. We worked to try different things comparing results from one center to another gradually increasing the lifespan and gradually bringing us the ability to cure or greatly ameliorate things like leukemia.

This disease was treated differently. Horrible in fact. Anti progress with a bunch of stupid people adding to the confusion. We learned but did far less than we could have with openness and inclusion instead of canceling and exclusion.

“there is no central data base and that is truly a shame.”

Think of those other diseases we worked on to improve the care provided. They had much better databases and the databases weren’t corrupted. We all know why some numbers are too high. Corruption of data along with plain old corruption is caused by many things and big government is one of the big causes.

          1. Yes and Queens Hospital and Flushing Hospital among others in Queens. I am not going to play games. I had a serious moment when I had to go into Elmhurst Hospital.

            1. I don’t blame you but if you have been there in earlier years you would have seen a similar disaster during serious flu outbreaks.

Makes one wonder why the problem wasn’t fixed decades ago. But, we know the answer. None of us want to say why.

            2. Had you/others there heard of Ivermectinin, Vit C,D3,,min Zinc w/A or HCQ? Used earlier nearly 100% cure rate it’s said.

Thousands of Docs/nurses banned off the commie media like Facebook/Twits etc. have.

        2. Do you think as a New Yorker it was Stupid & also Criminal for the Governor to order nursing home operators to put sick people in with elderly well people instead of putting somewhere else, like Trumps Navy hospital ship or the portable one?

Why has anyone been charged & arrested?

And what the hell is in the water up there? For God’s sake, buy a water filter & stay away from the medical industrial complex… they’ll wrack us all if they can.

          1. Stupid? Absolutely. There was plenty of criticism at the time. Criminal? I will wait and see what the investigation delivers. If he lied to the Feds, then it is criminal. As for the decision itself, there could have been sound reasons that escape me. One that was floated was he wanted to clear out hospitals to create space for the incoming and the spaces in the nursing homes were to be isolated and contained from the residents. If that is true, maybe it is one of those that looked good on paper. Why they did not use the Comfort and the temporary hospitals in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I have no idea.

            1. I hope I’ve not been a complete ahole about all this, but those b*stards at the top have had a direct hand in the deaths of millions, like in the 3rd world when they, Fauci/Bill Gates etc., when they caused shut down most of the world’s economy.

Francis Boyle, noted Con Law professor, warned us all a year ago Feb/March 2020 the Wuhan Flu was a Bio-Weapon cooked up by Fauci/Bill Gates/etc., on infowars.

All of those/these type infowars interviews are archive at Banned.Video. I have many saved in my own files.

Currently there’s more then enough public info to have warrants issued for their arrest.

There a report that’s supposed to come out anytime now. I’ll be posting it on Turley’s later tonight or tomorrow.

              https://banned.video/

On the left side of that site, if you scroll down just a bit, click on: Most Banned Videos.

Scroll down there a bit & you’ll run across some of those past interviews/press releases from Docs/Nurses that had their comments censored elsewhere

                1. “This shows you what phonies they are [the media] what frauds they are….that we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of this [where the virus came from]”

Fauci has been lying, parsing his lies.

But the truth will come out.

“To say Fauci is a complete and total fraud is an understament.”

        3. The Quiet Man wrote, “If you want to live with the fantasy that this is fake, feel free.”

You sir are living in a fantasy world of absurd assumptions.

I have never said, wrote, nor do I believe that COVID-19 is fake. In fact Einstein, I have had two of my immediate family members in my closed COVID family inner circle that have worked a local hospital during this nightmare pandemic, one is a nurse working directly with patients and the other in the hospital lab. I’ve followed the masking and social distancing suggestions, severely restricted my travel, and literally done everything I can to keep my inner circle safe from COVID, plus I am now fully vaccinated. Does that sound like I fit into your ignorant assumption container, I think not.

Your fantasy world of assumptions shows us exactly how much of a biased bigot you are by making up things about those that disagree with you based on your own ignorant assumptions. Again; it’s better to be thought the fool and remain “the quiet man” as opposed to start talking or writing and remove all doubt.

As for scientist. Scientist can be a solution to a problem but sometimes scientist can exacerbate a problem by changing with the wind because it’s perceived by the public at large as being wishy-washy and unprofessional of a professional scientist and this is a serious problem with how the “scientists” have handled this pandemic with their knee-jerk reactions and how the left leaning media and partisan attack dogs have attacked those that think critically about some of the things the scientists have said and some of the restricting COVID rules. I wrote a comment elsewhere in this thread…

CDC Admits That It Miscalculated The Risk Of Outdoor Covid Transmission

But we’re told that we have to believe every word coming out of the mouth of the scientists and activists or we’re smeared as flat earthers and science deniers.

When people actually start understanding that scientists are only correct some of the time maybe the flat earther and science denier false smears will stop.

          FAT CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING!

The smears are pure political and all about gaining political power and shutting down the opposition. These kinds of smears won’t stop until the smeared shove their closed fist in the mouth of the activists that are spewing the false smears; activists do not understand truth and logic, they only understand intimidation and force.

When critically thinking people argued against the blanketed knee-jerk reactionary outdoor masking rules they were LITERALLY called science deniers but it turns out that those critical thinking people were correct. Will the people that demonized others as science deniers apologize for their false demonization’s, FAT CHANCE OF THAT EVER HAPPENING!

The double standards and outright hypocrisy from the political left are thick as pea soup. The statements by scientists that they later retracted/changed because they were false, like the masking requirements outdoors, get rationalized by the political left as mistakes or evolved thinking but yet they actively demonizes any statements from President Trump (and now other Republicans) as lies if they turned out to be false, period end of argument. It appears that there are only two steps to the political left’s critical thinking; 1. Pretend to listen to the opposition; 2. Declare the opposition wrong; thus ends the left’s critical thinking. The political left has painted themselves into a ideological corner that’s occupied by power grabbing liars; their anti-right, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-liberty, anti-white, anti-police, and anti-constitution propaganda is so bad these days that they are rightfully perceived by critically thinking people as anti-American totalitarians.

As for you appearing to be gullible; it appears to me that you will bend over and take whatever a scientists chooses to deliver to you without applying any critical thinking whatsoever; that’s sir is how you appear to be gullible which literally means “easily persuaded to believe something”. Plus it appears to me that you will rationalize anything the “settled science” scientists spout even when they are wrong. Plus it appears to me that you’re willing to set aside your liberty based on a false belief in utilitarianism which is the doctrine that actions are right if they are useful or for the benefit of a majority; utilitarianism is an unethical rationalization. You simply do appear to understand your own liberty and it appears that don’t respect the liberty of others.

Liberty is Dying a Slow Death in the United States of America

For your information Einstein: nothing in your reply to me contradicted anything I wrote, that’s what foolish people do.

          I’m done with you.

          1. Well that was a ton of hot air that said nothing.

If your really want to get into a tit for tat about who takes this more seriously, it is one you will lose. I was there at the beginning and you were not. i understand explicit what this bug can do because I saw it first hand early on and you did not. Even if it does not kill you, it can leave you devastated for the rest of your life. I have coworkers that will never be able to return to work due to COVID.

Yes I give the CDC a pass on this one. it is the fog of war, but then if you actually read and not assumed what I wrote, you would also have seen that I called for hard work into preventing it happening again.

As for the liberty question, exactly what liberties have you lost?

Be forewarned, this is a trap. If you answer, you are not done with me and I win because you responded and if you do not answer, I get the last word and I win again.

Maybe you should have quit when you were ahead.

    4. But nobody has died of the Flu this year.
      Because covid is the Flu.

      1. OK, this is a good one. When was the last time the “flu” season ran an entire year? There have been recorded flu deaths this year, just in diminished numbers. Wearing masks and social distancing is evidently a perfect method of knocking out the flu.

        1. Most of the people who die of the flu are elderly. Instead of the flu killing the elderly this year, it is likely Covid killed them (like 80% of Covid deaths are in people over 80, if I recall), hence the lower numbers.

        2. Try learning about the difference between correlation and causation

Lets not forget that the 6ft distancing was disproved by MIT, and the mask business was debunked by the CDC before politics required a 180 degree shift.

    5. You have got to be kidding? The CDC’s nonstop bungling, misinformation, fear mongering and outright lies are no big deal because they just wanted to be overly cautious? The damage they have done and the toll it has taken on multiple millions of lives, children and elderly especially, is incalculable. People could have kept living their lives, exercising, visiting family, going to outdoor events, but cdc made a tiny error? Give me a break.

      1. but cdc made a tiny error? Give me a break.
        Tiny?

An order of magnitude can be generalized multiple ways. Tiny is not one of them.

We know they put out the wrong number. Why? What is their goal?

The CDC says we have to be 70% vaccinated to have herd immunity. They ignore all those infected. All those infected we learned this week was also wildly wrong. not 27 million, but really 83 million. The CDC is also ignoring those with T cell immunity.
But the 45% with one dose plus the 25% with natural immunity puts us at 70% herd immunity. So the goal has been met. The CDC has again changed their narrative.
        A lie?
        or
        Yet another “tiny error”

      2. Can you show me where I said tiny? If not please retract your “tiny” comment. I accept it happened, but do not downplay the mistake nor the pain.

        1. Get over yourself. Not everthing is about you.
I bolded the quote. It’s was posted by KN

          1. Seriously people, lighten up. Irony doesn’t come through the computer screen very well does it? I should have put in front of the word *tiny*.

            1. KN at least to me the sarcasm was obvious in your “tiny” comment. The paragraph was clear and gave the context.

    6. “I will give the CDC a pass on this one because it inflated the risk and not deflated that risk which could have caused more harm.”

Quiet Man, permit me to change what you said by a tad. The CDC inflated the known risk and the more the known risk was inflated the more the unknown risk increased.

I am sure you are well aware of the following but take a look at http://bastiat.org/en/twisatwins.html and start with the Broken Window.

  7. So many CDC miscalculations
So much fake news multiplying the mistakes
Cancellation of alternative opinion that was correct.

    Should the CDC be trusted?

Those Americans with vested interests have decided too much of our policy. Now we are finding even more connections to these same people and the Wuhan Laboratory in China that was a likely cause of the disaster.

    1. It took the CDC ten years to publish a mostly factual description of the transmission of HIV because of politics. You should not be surprised at their performance here.

      1. The primary mode was fecal transmission through the terminus of the digestive system. Denying the elective behavior and social orientation of the population at risk caused hundreds of thousand excess deaths on a forward-looking basis.

  8. Natacha, Why are you making this about politics? Why are you going into full attack mode against Fox, Republicans, Trump and Professor Turley?

Professor Turley, if I am understanding him correctly, was asking why the CDC never questioned the Singapore study’s methodology and why further studies were never done to corroborate their conclusions. These are reasonable questions and should be asked by all intelligent, unafraid people who have been forced to wear masks outdoors for more than 12 months.

    1. Createthislifetime,
She’s a regular on JT’s blog and if you looked in the archives, you will discover she has been in full attack mode for 5 years. Think banshee and you’ll get the picture.

    2. One reason is that people needed answers quickly about what to do to minimize deaths and infection. COVID can still be transmitted outdoors.

  9. Not just the Americans. The Italians were (and until recently) were shut in their homes, even in the countryside and forced to wear masks outside (which is still a requirement). No doubt a number of “oops” will continue to pop up.

    1. The Italians have finally capitulated…to economic necessities. The country will “reopen” in May to “save the summer tourist season.”

  10. How many people have been subjected to capricious regulations and fines because our CDC relied on data from Singapore and elsewhere?

“A California surfer was arrested for violating the state’s stay-at-home order,” reads the text over an image of what looks like two sheriff deputies walking a man in handcuffs down a beach. “He was alone, in the ocean, when police violated social distancing protocols to arrest him, and potentially expose him to infection. This isn’t about safety, it’s about control!”

This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)
    https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/apr/09/viral-image/la-county-sheriffs-deputies-arrested-paddle-boarde/

  11. NYT: Only 1% chance of outdoor transmission.
    Me: WTH?
CDC:: Nothing to see here, move on. All is well

  12. CDC lacks all credibility at this point. They let “stakeholders” such as teachers’ unions determine the guidance that they pass down to us peasants. They never investigate their dictates, such as the outdoor transmission risk. They don’t adjust their mask guidance to concentrate more on indoor ventilation. They ignore the risk of children getting it, keeping the social distance for them unreasonably high. They are beholden to Fauci, who has conflict of interest because of his involved with the funding of gain-of-research in the Wuhan lab from where the virus leaked.

  13. It makes you wonder just how reliable government information is. Oh wait! I spent 12 years in government service and had a Top Secret clearance. Government lies for political purposes. NOTHING from a government source can be trusted.

    1. Ah. Another one with the preverbal “top secret security clearance.” I wish I had a $100 Dollar Bill each each time I seen a comment online out of someone that says because of their government job they had a top secret security clearance. I worked for 25 years myself for MSC, Military Sealift Command, my 1st career, and retired from it as a relief Captain. Graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy, class of 78.

Chances are I had a security clearance myself, but, if I did or did not, it’s really nobody’s business. Furthermore all it does is show how much of a blow-hard Braggart I am. That’s if, If I ever said I did have one because of my job. Oh, nobody likes a puffed up bragging bragger.

      1. Garland….whether you personally held a Security Clearance matters not…..but your puffed out chest and bragging about having been a graduate of the MMA and employed by the MSC for Twenty Five Years sorta demeans whatever it was you were trying to say.

You suppose some folks with Security Clearances well above of the standard TS Clearance might just have lied about the WMD Programs of the Iraqi’s, or lied about Russian Collusion by the Trump Administration, or perhaps might have intentionally lied to the FISA Court?

Anyone that has served in government with access to Classified Information knows that the “truth” is a pretty malleable quantity.

      2. There is no such thing as a “Top Secret Security Clearance” in real life – as you know. There are only levels of background investigations that (if no contraindications are identified) support an individual being granted access to certain levels of classified information, if necessary. Saying someone has a clearance of one sort or another is shorthand for all that. It doesn’t give one automatic access to anything at a given level.

      3. You may have noticed when Trump was in he couldn’t get security clearance pulled from people who where no longer in govt. like Hillary, Brennan, Clapper, Comey, McCabe, etc., that should be in prison for Treason at least.

There seems to be an unknown amount of SC’s out in the wild of people no longer in govt that shouldn’t have them.

But what the hell anyway as US govt security is working like a screen door on a submarine when it come to the Chicom Govt walking in & out of US govt secured areas…. ask Hunter Biden, Pelosi, Fienstein, McConnell, McCarty, etc.

Now the globalist deep state can shut of Texas’s electric in the middle of winter storms, coal fired plaints at a will, the Keystone pipeline & 40% of the Eastern US’s gasoline on a whim to cover up their public exposure now that Biden’s bosses are the ones that created/released the Bio-weapon Wuhan Flue, (Fauci/Gates), who also created the Gene Theory that are wrongly called vaccines.

Do ya think just maybe the US, WE, are under plucking Attack!

And today that SC you had in the 70’s people don’t have to work for them like you did, all that’s needed is teats or the right skin color & the US Navy will put you in command of a Destroyer to run into slow moving freighters.

        LOL, Sarc off.

I feel much safer now, don’t you.

    2. I also have spent 10+ years working for the Federal Government with a Top Secret Clearance (just updated investigation in Jan) and I absolutely concur with your analysis. Government information also has alternate motives for political agendas with root goal being for politicians to line their pockets, progress careers, stay out of prison, etc…

  15. You have become a full-fledged Fox News pundit, Turley. I was going to use a much more apt descriptor that implies trading cash for sexual favors, but didn’t want this comment to get flushed. You totally ignore all of Trump’s lies, especially the Big Lie and the syncophantic butt-kissing Republicans who continue to harp on the Big Lie, but criticize the CDC for this miscalculation. Your ignoring of the Big Lie is what is truly “astonishing”.

Tell us, Turley, did the CDC intentionally lie for political reasons? Of course not, but you know damn good and well that Trump and the Republicans know the Big Lie is not true, but they keep on telling it.

Tell us, Turley, did the CDC come clean after it discovered the problem? Of course it did. Have Trump and the Republicans? Of course not.

Face it, Turley, whatever credibility you once had is rapidly fading.

    1. Natacha,
Your argument is pathetic ad hominems and deflections from the topic complete with multiple rationalizations thrown in for good measure; but alas, this is exactly what we’ve come to expect out of our foolish progressive hive minded friends.

The political left knows all about how to spew big lies, innuendo and propaganda, they and their Pravda styled media lapdogs have been the perpetrators of big lies for over four years straight. The political left has set a new VERY low precedence in political discourse since November 2016.

Here is a brief reference on some big lefty lies,
      https://ethicsalarms.com/2019/11/25/the-big-lies-of-the-resistance-a-directory-complete-and-updated/

      1. The subject of this post was putting out false information that people rely on. Since going on the Fox payroll, Turley cherry picks what false information he finds are deserving of his censure. The CDC relied on a study that was flawed. According to Turley, even though the source was reliable, the CDC should have vetted it more. The CDC corrected the information immediately, the error was not intentional and certainly not politically-motivated. In contradistinction,Trump and Republicans continue to put out the Big Lie, and gullibles like you continue to believe it, even though there are no facts to back it up, but plenty of facts proving otherwise. As a result, there are Americans who have lost faith in our election system, even though 2020 was the most-secure in history.

The subject of my post was Turley using his credentials to feed into the Hate Network narrative that criticizes everything the CDC does, mainly because it wouldn’t kow tow to Trump and go along with his lies about the pandemic being under control when it wasn’t and that Hydroxychloroquine is not an effective treatment for COVID. He ignores the Big Lie that is harmful to America, even though he does know better. Just take a look at the comments by the Trump disciples on today’s blog. They think the CDC is the enemy and cannot be trusted. The disciples are the ones who refused to get vaccinated and will believe every lie put out by the Hate Network. Turley uses his credentials to feed into their narrative. He should truly be ashamed of himself.

        1. Natacha wrote, “Turley cherry picks what false information he finds are deserving of his censure.”

Guess what, you freaking imbecile, this is Turley’s blog not yours and he can write about any damn thing he wants. You chastising and attacking him with ad homimens for what he chooses to write about is nothing more than an annoying buzz from a petty small minded gnat, but hey, congratulations are in order, your effort to show everyone here just how petty and bigoted your character can be is a resounding success.

    2. Your Trump deflection rants prove just how politicized (and disserving of discrediting) is CDC.

      1. Anonymous wrote, “Your Trump deflection rants prove just how politicized (and disserving of discrediting) is CDC.”

Natacha rhetoric proves nothing about the CDC Anonymous, your claim is illogical and absolutely absurd!

What it does prove is that Natacha is totally consumed by hive minded rhetoric and has swallowed the left’s constant propaganda as if it’s all fact and it’s turned Natacha into a partisan hack.

    3. Instead of responding to the CDC error, she attacks the messenger. Sounds about right.

    4. Natacha forgets one crucial concept when trying to insult Professor Turley…..in order to be offended one must give credence to what that person has to say. No credence….no insult!

      1. Cindy, can you check to see if they have a room for Anonymous the Stupid as well?

          1. Thank you Cindy. Anonymous the Stupid is acting crazier than usual. I think he is trying to get an emergency admission to that mental facility. He and Natacha make a good couple. They can both talk incessantly to each other without either of them hearing what the other has to say.

  16. So, I kinda wonder what else is flawed. What else should have been questioned but wasn’t? What else was a massive “oopsie, we goofed”? The cranky, cynical me wonders, too, whether it was really a goof…

    1. Lets try the vaccines. You see many advertisements now telling people to get the shots. We’re all in this together. No waiting. What or who is behind all this misinformation? They’re after the kids now, mostly college age and now down to 12 years old. These are the least affected people. The governor of Pennsylvania recently said that he will not remove the mask mandate until until 70% of the citizens have been vaccinated. That may never happen. It’s at a point now where they almost have to pay people to get vaccinated. I’m 67 and I am not going to get vaccinated and I have some nifty underlying conditions. I’ll take my chances. That’s life. I am more concerned about my 94 year old aunt and my 88 year old uncle. I will mention that I have had the creeping crud and survived without much difficulty. Did spend 4 days in the hospital. Still have the antibodies.

      1. These ads are disgusting waste of taxpayer money. Instead of convincing me to get the jab, they reinforce that I shouldn’t. If the vaccines were so great, they wouldn’t need to be advertised. Nor would people need to be bribed to get them.

      2. KHS71 wrote, “I’m 67 and I am not going to get vaccinated and I have some nifty underlying conditions. I’ll take my chances. That’s life.”

That’s your choice and I don’t have any problem with you choosing that. It’s your choice, your consequences and you’re fully aware of that.

        Ain’t Liberty great!

My wife and I chose to become part of the herd immunity.

        1. I wrote, “My wife and I chose to become part of the herd immunity.”

That’s what we chose with COVID-19 and it’s the same kind of thing we’ve chosen to do for years with other things like the annual flue shot and the shingles vaccine. It’s our choice to participate.

          1. Lots of people choose to do coke, meth & other drugs too, oh well.

But unlike people doing drugs people take big pharma’s frankenstein vaccines that can/do shead to unwilling/knowing people.

Please stay away from the public for at least a couple months to avoid becoming a Super Spreader to the rest of us, just in case. Thanks.

      3. “The governor of Pennsylvania recently said that he will not remove the mask mandate until until 70% of the citizens have been vaccinated.”

Lots of western Pennsylvanians are inclined to flip him the bird, I think.

      4. You aren’t paying very close attention, are you? Younger people do better with COVID infection, but they can and do pass it on to others. The more COVID replicates, the more opportunities for variants that could develop, and eventually, there could be a variant that current vaccines don’t cover. The more it is brought under control, the less the chances of variants.

You can take all the chances you want, but since you are over 65, you are on Medicare. What gives you the right to potentially get an infection that could land you in the hospital or on a ventilator, running up hundreds of thousands of dollars of expense to the system, much less to pass it along to older relatives?

What is your objection to the vaccine, anyway? It’s not logic, reason, or scientific information from any reliable medical source. You sound like a Trumpster disciple.

        1. What gives you the right to potentially get an infection that could land you in the hospital or on a ventilator, running up hundreds of thousands of dollars of expense to the system, much less to pass it along to older relatives?

The last I checked, everyone has the right to make all sorts of risky decisions that might result in needing medical care. Volunteer to go in the military? Ride a skateboard? Drive a car? Help the homeless? BASE jump? Border patrol? First responder? Need groceries? Shovel your sidewalk? Medicare/Medicaid/VA/Tricare. None of them require an individual quit their own pursuit of happiness, just because hideous people like yourself hate individualism. GFY.

        2. No one makes you go on Mediscare. No one makes you take Social Security. No one makes you do anything in life except die and pay taxes. You can do what you want with medical care including paying cash. I like the freedom. I refuse to allow this virus run my life. I see too may people allowing the virus to control their life.

        3. “The more COVID replicates, the more opportunities for variants that could>/b> develop, and eventually, there could be a variant that current vaccines don’t cover. The more it is brought under control, the less the chances of variants.

Keep working at it and you have room for 4 more qualifying words.

You’re behind on talking points. Nobody is talking about variants anymore. That bit of panic porn hasn’t played out well. We are, what, six months into the “variants” scare? None have caused any problems.

World renown vaccine specialist, Geert Vanden Bossche, gave a groundbreaking interview this week risking his reputation and his career by bravely speaking out against administration of #Covid19 vaccines. In what may be one of the most important stories ever covered by The Highwire, the vaccine developer shared his extreme concerns about these vaccines in particular and why we may be on track to creating a global immunity catastrophe.

        4. Natacha…for starters it is not a vaccine. they have never been able to come up with a cold vaccine. Not to mention vaccines take about 3-5 years of studies. This is an experiment and yes its your choice if you want to be part of that experiment but also understand you are forcing it on others thru shedding so please isolate yourself. How do you like those apple’s and bananas? Please dont be so fearful of those variants either. How do you think you survived all these years up til now? Just practice a healthy lifestyle!

  17. Never seen a national emergency with so much bad information, misleading information, and plain lying.

Egos and political calculation dominated the information provided (Trump, Fauci, Cuomo, and Biden are prime examples).

The sense of manipulation of the American public was palpable.

The overreaching of politicians, the CDC, and the Teachers Union was shameful.

Other than the drug companies, few people came out with their reputations intact.
