Today I have the pleasure of addressing Alabama political and business leaders in Alabama as the keynote speaker at the Electric Cities of Alabama Conference. The conference is being held at the Lodge at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama. I will be speaking this morning on “Institutional Faith and Failure in the Age of Rage”, a discussion of how our institutions have functioned during these difficult times.
It is a spectacular location and I will be doing a couple travel blogs on the highlights of the trip. I am staying at Hilton’s The Lodge at Gulf State Park on the beach. It is incredible. More to come.

Jonathan: As a nationally recognized conservative academic/attorney one would think you could get a better gig then speaking to a group of political and business leaders on Alabama’s Gulf coast. I mean Trump just spoke at the CPAC conference in Dallas. Why couldn’t you get invited to join one of the many panels at the CPAC event? Hard to figure why you were not invited. In case you missed Trump’s speech he, as usual, continued to carp about being “cheated” out of a second term. Trump also said the insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6th were “peaceful people, these were great people”. He also claimed he was not hurt by his two impeachments: “I got impeached twice. I became worse. I became worse”. No argument there.
What was a little strange is that you chose to post with your column an ad for the Lodge at Gulf State Park on Alabama’s Gulf shores–with endless photos of available rooms. What caught my eye was how many “bunk bed” rooms there are at the Lodge. As the “keynote speaker” at the conference I hope you were spared the indignity of having to share a bunk bed room with other attendees. Maybe shilling for the Lodge was the quid pro quo to get a better room with a spectacular view of the Gulf. You won’t see Trump shilling for a hotel he does not own.
Speaking in the “Heart of Dixie” could have given you the opportunity to discuss Alabama’s new voter suppression laws that will make it harder for Black voters in Alabama to exercise their constitutional rights. Probably not. Or you could have talked about the fight in Alabama over CRT. Although CRT is not specifically taught in K-12 schools in Alabama, Republican politicians are up in arms about the subject. They are following the lead of neighboring Georgia in passing legislation to ban the teaching of CRT. God forbid Alabama’s public school students should learn something about Alabama’s history of slavery and segregation! I would think you would want to discuss how the “free speech” rights of teachers is being infringed by Alabama’s school districts. I guess not. These topic would probably be uncomfortable for the attendees at the Gulf conference. And you don’t want to bite the hand that feeds you.

Racist much? What other low expectations do you have for Black people? Now explain why Delaware’s voting laws are not considered as voter suppression, since they are far more restrictive than Alabama and Georgia.

They actually teach about slavery and segregation imposed by Democrats. They simply are opposed to teaching their children to judge people based on the color of their skin.

Citizens that pay their salaries have free speech rights as well. If these parents reject schools indoctrinating their children to be racists like the Democrats in their history books, then that is well within their rights.

Trump’s “I became worse” comment was made in the context of Barr’s reaction to the calls for his impeachment, versus Trump’s reaction to his two (bogus) impeachments. In his view, Barr was cowed, while he was emboldened. The “I became worse” means: I became worse *in the eyes of the democrats*, because I refused to submit to their smears and intimidation tactics. In other words: I chose to stand tall and fight.

As a registered voter in Alabama and an active voter, I assure you that that our state has some of the most secure voting procedures in the nation. It’s not the 1950’s anymore. While racism will never be eradicated, we have strong safeguards and an active POC presence in polling locations. Moreover, the government departments are majority minority that oversee absenteeism ballots. As an older lifelong citizen of Montgomery, Alabama, I assure you I know what racism looks like. I’ve seen it firsthand and lived it firsthand.
Since we have turned away from Professor Turley’s appearance to Marxism we should discuss the occurrence of protests in Cuba over the scarcity of food. Just like Democrats blaming Republicans for their failed policies the President of Cuba is blaming the U.S. for Cuban social unrest by the protestors caused by the touching of their belly button to their backbone. No way that El Presidente’s or the Democratic Party’s policies could be at fault in the creation of misery. When backed into that corner the only response left for the Left is to double down.

Maybe a good time to brush up on the so called ” progressive liberals” history! Coming from a “classical liberals” point of view, there’s some truth in Mr. Levin’s book title. John Dewey’s article’s in “The New Republic” may be a starting point.

The reason I am on this blog is only to see where Turley stands. I have no doubt that he would denounce Mark Levin were he directly so asked. But Turley shrewdly avoids any situation in which he could be asked his opinion on the rage being fueled by Fox News liars. Instead, he pretends Fox News does not exist. Sooner or later, however, Turley will be held accountable for his silence just like Barr is now being held to account for his pushing the “Big Lie” during a CNN interview (though now he is vainly trying to disassociate himself from his claim that the election faced the risk of massive voter fraud).
In the fullness of time, there will be a reckoning. It may keep Turley awake at night and likely explains his constant argument that the prohibition against Big Brother censorship ought to extend to Little Brother, like his own George Washington Law School, so that controversial law professors such as himself never suffer any consequences for their rhetoric regardless of the content. It’s well known that Turley is experiencing blowback at his institution, and his obsession to defend conservative academics from so-called “cancelling” may be his attempt to lay a record in his own defense when he himself may face repercussions for his intellectual dishonesty in ignoring the Fox News rage and his hypocrisy for working for such a disreputable network.

Jeffsilberman, please give us an example of how the desire by the left to centralize control differs from the tenants put forth in Marxism. A latest example on my part would be federally control of state elections. A differentiation on your part should include how Democrats in America support policies that are not equal to those presented by Marx. As a suggestion, an explanation of the policies of Bernie Sanders (avowed socialist) would be appreciated. Your turn.

Oughta be a short speech: “They haven’t.” But on the plus side you can get everyone to the beach earlier.
Having the great fortune of growing up with the Gulf of Mexico as my front yard and working in the area, I’ve attended many conferences there. It’s beautiful but tedious to sit through hours of speakers as you’re sitting inside while all the really good things are outside.
Suggestion, bring the attendees outside for your lecture. They’ll love you even more for your thoughtfulness.
