I recently discussed how the Biden Administration was actively encouraging corporations to limit speech and impose vaccine mandates as a type of shadow state. Rather than take such actions directly ( and face both legal and political challenges), the Administration is relying on its close alliance with Big Tech and other companies to carry out such tasks. That surrogate relationship is particularly clear in the expanding censorship program carried out by Twitter, Facebook and other companies. Twitter’s action against political commentator Dave Rubin is an example of how these companies are now dispensing with any pretense in actively barring criticism of government policies and viewpoints.
Rubin was locked out under the common “misinformation” claim by Twitter. However, his tweet was an opinion based on demonstrably true facts. One can certainly disagree with the conclusion but this is an example of core political speech being curtailed by a company with a long history of biased censorship, including the barring of discussions involving Hunter Biden’s laptop before the election. With a new election looming, these companies appear to be ramping up their censorship efforts.
In his tweet, Rubin stated:
“They want a federal vaccine mandate for vaccines which are clearly not working as promised just weeks ago. People are getting and transmitting Covid despite vax. Plus now they’re prepping us for booster shots. A sane society would take a pause. We do not live in a sane society.”
Even President Biden admitted yesterday that he was wrong weeks ago when he assured people that if they took the vaccine, they would not be at risk for the variants and could dispense with their masks. There are breakthrough cases that have taken many officials by surprise. It is also true that there is now talk of likely booster shots.
Rubin takes those facts and adds his opinion that we should “take a pause.” Twitter declared that to be a violation of its policy “on spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19.”
As always, Twitter simply refuses to explain its censorship decision beyond these generalized, categorical statements. It is not clear if Twitter is calling these facts misinformation or objecting to Rubin’s opinion about a pause. It does not matter. Twitter does not like his viewpoint and does not want others to read it or discuss it.
This is precisely what Democratic leaders pressed Twitter to do in past hearings. As previously discussed the hearing with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey who followed up his apology for censoring the Hunter Biden story but pledging more censorship. One of the most chilling moments came from Delaware Senator Chris Coons who demonstrated the very essence of the “slippery slope” danger.
Dorsey: Well, misleading information, as you are aware, is a large problem. It’s hard to define it completely and cohesively. We wanted to scope our approach to start to focus on the highest severity of harm. We focused on three areas, manipulated media, which you mentioned, civic integrity around the election, specifically in public health, specifically around COVID. We wanted to make sure that our resources that we have the greatest impact on where we believe the greatest severity of harm is going to be. Our policies are living documents. They will evolve. We will add to them, but we thought it important that we focus our energies and prioritize the work as much as we could.
Coons: Well, Mr. Dorsey, I’ll close with this. I cannot think of a greater harm than climate change, which is transforming literally our planet and causing harm to our entire world. I think we’re experiencing significant harm as we speak. I recognize the pandemic and misinformation about COVID-19, manipulated media also cause harm, but I’d urge you to reconsider that because helping to disseminate climate denialism, in my view, further facilitates and accelerates one of the greatest existential threats to our world. So thank you to both of our witnesses.
Notably, Dorsey starts with the same argument made by free speech advocates: “Well, misleading information, as you are aware, is a large problem. It’s hard to define it completely and cohesively.” However, instead of then raising concerns over censoring views and comments on the basis for such an amorphous category, Coons pressed for an expansion of the categories of censored material to prevent people from sharing any views that he considers “climate denialism”
There is, of course, a wide array of views that different people or different groups would declare “harmful.” Indeed, Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal seemed to take the opposite meaning from Twitter admitting that it was wrong to censor the Biden story. Blumenthal said that he was “concerned that both of your companies are, in fact, backsliding or retrenching, that you are failing to take action against dangerous disinformation.” Accordingly, he demanded an answer to this question:
“Will you commit to the same kind of robust content modification playbook in this coming election, including fact checking, labeling, reducing the spread of misinformation, and other steps, even for politicians in the runoff elections ahead?”
“Robust content modification” has a certain Orwellian feel to it. It is not content modification. It is censorship.
The Rubin controversy captures this raw and biased censorship by Twitter and the other Big Tech companies. They do not want people to read such dissenting views so they declare them to be misinformation and ban the poster. It also shows how such censorship becomes insatiable and expansive with time. Once you give censors the opportunity to silence others, history shows that the desire for greater and greater censorship builds inexorably. We now have the largest censorship system outside of China and it is entirely run by private companies closely aligned with one party.
As Orwell wrote in 1984:
“And when memory failed and written records were falsified—when that happened, the claim of the Party to have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted, because there did not exist, and never again could exist, any standard against which it could be tested.”
So what is the real world impact (hospitalization/death) of the Delta variant?
And Dr. Fauci issued a carefully worded statement that included the words “greatest threat” in discussing the delta variant:
“The Delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the U.S. to our attempt to eliminate COVID-19,”
Pay close attention to the care with which Fauci specified that “our attempt to eliminate COVID-19” was what was threatened. The delta variant is even more transmissible than earlier versions of the virus, but the other side of that coin is that it is weaker, less lethal. All those people driving around with “Darwin” fishes with legs displayed on the bumpers should be able to follow the evolutionary logic. The virus, like all life forms, wants to reproduce to survive. But if it kills off its hosts, it can’t do so. That’s why as viruses mutate, they become less lethal and more transmissible.
By specifying that the object is “our attempt to eliminate COVID-19,” Fauci is positing an impossible goal. We haven’t eliminated the common cold or any of the flu variants that plague us every year. The best we can hope to do is minimize their impact as they burn themselves out. Fauci knows that the delta variant is less lethal than the first viruses, so he highlights its transmissibility as the “greatest threat” to an unrealistic goal of complete elimination. The headlines all feature the scary words “greatest threat” with no attention to the diminished lethality. In fact, greater transmissibility of a milder variant helps natural herd immunity, rendering potential hosts nearly immune to further viral infections.

The vaccines ARE working, but even the fully-vaccinated can carry the virus in their nasal passages and can spread it. If someone who is fully-vaccinated contracts COVID, they will not be sick enough to require hospitalization or die. 99% of those hospitalized with COVID are unvaccinated, and 100% of those who are dying are unvaccinated. The vaccines were never touted as being 100% effective.
There is no “mixed messaging”, but that won’t stop Fox from trying to confuse the issue to try to make Biden look bad. The science hasn’t changed, but the virus has. When the mask mandate was lifted back in May, Delta was not the dominant strain. Delta is more infections and 6x more lethal in fully vaccinated individuals per NHS. A vaccine with long-term effects, an inadequate safety profile, that poses a higher risk in the general population vs the conditional risk in the 80% “fat is beautiful”, “healthy at any weight”, metabolically compromised cases correlated but not (exclusive with age. An emergency-use measure distributed to the general population in a depraved experiment a la planned parent/hood. This has the potential to match Fentanyl-induced progressive conditions and viability.
In the UK, about 50% of the recent hospitalisations and deaths have been of vaccinated people. Israel also has relatively high percentages. This is not to say that the vaccines are not helping. The absolute numbers of hospitalisations and deaths are lower than they otherwise likely would be. And given that a substantial majority of the relevant populations in both countries have been vaccinated, it is a sign that the vaccines are helping that a substantial majority of hospitalisations and deaths are not among the vaccinated. But the virus is here to stay unless and until it evolves in a benign way. The vaccines help reduce its impact but they will not “eliminate” it. It is low risk to most people, especially the young, and if anyone believes the vaccine will be beneficial to them they can take it.
There are many powerful people with political, financial and ideological interests in maintaining a state of fear. That is the only basis I can see for the changes we are now seeing.

Rubin hosts “The Rubin Report” on BlazeTV, a conservative subscription service run by Glenn Beck, a purveyor of conspiracy theories. Rubin provides a forum for conspiracy theorists and white supremacists. On his show on 7/16 (“Govt. Doesn’t Want Covid to End”) Rubin hosted a roundtable discussing the re-imposition of face masks around the country. Rubin lives in SoCal and was livid by the decision to re-impose masks. He called local health officials “frauds” and “buffoons”. “I’m not wearing a mask anymore, period!”, Rubin said. Rubin further claimed, falsely, that there is “no science” behind the new mask requirement. Of course Rubin did not invite to the show an actual scientist or or public health official that might have explained the “science”. It doesn’t look like Rubin will be eating out anytime soon in SoCal, visiting his doctor and will have to order his groceries to be delivered. I suppose that’s a small price to pay for being anti-science and a committed anti-masker.
Back in May the CDC eased mask guidelines for those fully vaccinated. That was, of course, BEFORE the onset of the Delta variant that is much more virulent, much more transmiissible. Now 90% of those infected from the Delta variant are unvaccinated and there have been cases of breakthrough infections among people already vaccinated. As the virus has evolved so too have the CDC guidelines. That’s why the health professionals say it is important that masks be worn in indoor settings, even by the fully vaccinated, to help prevent transmission. And that’s why LA County and other communities across the country have re-instated the mask requirement. All the former and current surgeon generals agree.

You and Rubin are peddling misinformation about vaccines. The vaccines have proved effective in stopping the spread of the virus. The Delta variant has changed everything. It takes years to conduct clinical trials of any vaccine, and without the necessary time periods to observe reactions over the long haul and in various groups you cannot in any way claim to have developed a safe clinically proven vaccine. They are testing it on the population. The general population is the control group. If you’ve taken the vaccine then you are one of the study participants. Thank you for dedicating your body to science so that they can run their tests. In a few more years, 2 or 3 maybe, they’ll have worked out all the kinks I imagine. Of course there will always be new strains. Which is why 90 percent of the population doesn’t need the vaccine, as our own autoimmune systems still function as they always have even though in March 2020 they declared the time proven science of herd immunity heresy.
It still works, even though we’re not allowed to talk about it any more, and will be called stupid if we claim to believe in that time proven biological fact, that we’ve always known and has always protected us as a species.

Haven’t seen the science behind all the new protocols. The announcement was made Tuesday. That would be after weeks? of scientific data analysis? But for some reason they need yet more time to release the science? The science is a study from India, pertaining to a vaccine not used in the US, but the study failed peer review.
How did the CDC get unpublished studies? Why use studies that failed peer review?
But instead of science we get a dementia addled Joe regaling us with anecdotes of individuals suffering because they didn’t take the vaccine.
