“We Can Never Believe Police”: Cal State Professor Denounces Smollett Verdict as a “White Supremacist Charade”

After the conviction of Jussie Smollett, many in politics and the media admitted that the evidence against the actor was overwhelming despite the early coverage lionizing Smollett. Indeed, while Smollett garnered overwhelming coverage as a courageous victim, some have now objected to the coverage of the verdict as excessive. Some cable hosts simply ignored the conviction while CNN and MSNBC downplayed the verdictBlack Lives Matters stood with Smollett even though he accused two black witnesses of lying and hurt legitimate victims of racism. However, Cal State Pan-African Studies Department professor Melina Abdullah has gone further and declared that it does not matter what the evidence is: you must stand with Smollett and refuse to believe anything the police has to say on the matter.

Academics are often passionate and opinionated on public controversies. However, most professors feel that intellectual honesty demands acknowledgement of undeniable facts like videotapes supported by text messages, eye witness testimony, and frankly simply logic. Not Abdullah.  The Black Lives Matter (LA) founder said on Tuesday “we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett.”

Abdullah supports defunding police as “an irredeemable institution” and, despite a black mayor and police chief, insists that the Chicago Police Department remains brutally racist. In her statement, she declares:

As abolitionists, we approach situations of injustice with love and align ourselves with our community. Because we got us. So let’s be clear: we love everybody in our community. It’s not about a trial or a verdict decided in a white supremacist charade, it’s about how we treat our community when corrupt systems are working to devalue their lives. In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth. Instead, we find ourselves, once again, being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department, which has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives.

In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom…

What is so striking is that Abdullah is declaring unquestioning love for someone who set back the cause of racial justice and real victims of racism. Indeed, Abdullah herself has undermined that cause by insisting that such claims must be blindly supported even when there is no evidence to support them and a mountain of evidence to refute them. Instead, she paints the jury, the court, and the legal system as racist, including presumably the African-American juror who voted to convict.

Abdullah is the former Chair of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles. She describes herself on her academic bio as a “womanist scholar-activist” and she has explained on Twitter (in response to the Wikipedia description of her beliefs as Marxist) that “I’m absolutely anti-capitalist…not a Marxist though. My beliefs are most aligned with African scientific socialism, with a heavy dose of womanism.”

You can also add an even heavier dose of denialism.

Oil And Water Do Not Mix

Water molecules are polar, which means there is an uneven distribution of charge across the water molecule. Water has a partial negative charge from its oxygen atom and partial positive charges on its hydrogen atoms. This polarity allows water molecules to form strong hydrogen bonds with each other, between the negatively charged oxygen atom on one water molecule and the positively charged hydrogen atoms of another.

Oils are nonpolar, and as a result they’re not attracted to the polarity of water molecules. In fact, oils are hydrophobic, or “water fearing.” Instead of being attracted to water molecules, oil molecules are repelled by them. As a result, when you add oil to a cup of water the two don’t mix with each other. Because oil is less dense than water, it will always float on top of water, creating a surface layer of oil.

Mixing “oil and water” in America requires political emulsifiers including, but not limited to, welfare, affirmative action, quotas, public housing, forced busing, non-discrimination laws, unfair housing laws, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, HUD, HHS, etc., ad nauseam.

The problem is that each and every political emulsifier is unconstitutional and they must be compelled by edict from a dictatorship.

  2. Professor, I’m sure you remember watching the first Dirty Harry movie when Scorpio paid a black panther to give him a brutal beating, the plan was to get the police to stop following him. Jussie should have watched Dirty Harry, that kind of stunt only works when you take a beating for real. All this because Jussie was scared to take a beating.

Oh thank God for affirmative action and charity in all things. This is not a professor; this is a joke. This fraud and “African Studies” constitute another huuuuge joke on the American thesis and taxpayer. The Israelite slaves were out of Egypt before the ink was dry on their release papers, but then they had the cognitive capacity and acumen sufficient to the task. Why does America listen to the constant caterwauling of these generational welfare and affirmative action beneficiaries and dependent parasites? The slaves said they wanted freedom; what they really wanted was “free stuff” by the truck load. They will never be satisfied. Why does America pay for these ingrates and their illegal alien, foreign invader, hyphenated allies – going so far as to publish methods of subverting America in foreign languages? Dang!

The entire communistic American welfare state is a huuuge hoax and fraud, and it is irrefutably unconstitutional including, but not limited to, matriculation affirmative action, grade-inflation affirmative action, employment affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, minimum wage, rent control, social services, forced busing, public housing, utility subsidies, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, HHS, HUD, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc.

Mr. America, tear down this communist (liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, RINO) welfare state “wall” and allow each and every free person to merit his own persistence.

  7. re: college professors and teachers in the US, the IQ quality has dropped precipitously.

  8. Clearly, evidence-based reasoning and critical thinking are becoming increasingly rare on college campuses. It is even beginning to infect the hard sciences.

Professor Turley’s calls for rationality and free speech are going unheeded. I’m glad he’s taking the brave and reasoned stance, but we need more academics to see the value in his position.

    1. Those things aren’t rare; they are non-existent. This began when we decided feelings were more important than facts. We are all going to have to fight with all of our might for that rationality. it no longer exists on the left.

      1. Karen S and James,
        Right on all counts.

My daughter got out of college without the Leftist indoctrination, but she did see it happening. She was smart and wise enough to not give up her free will and critical thinking.
        It has served her well.

      2. James,

“People of faith” are by definition irrational. Religious people believe things without ANY evidence to believe them- that’s precisely why they need faith! If you have evidence and a reason to believe something, you don’t need faith. Religion is the antithesis of Reason. Schools teach science, not the Bible, which explains why students come out far different than they were when they went in. They no longer take matters on faith; instead they demand “evidence-based reasoning and critical thinking” not wishy-washy thinking.

        1. Agreed. Moreover, while disbelief in a god is a simple binary (the ‘no’ part of ‘yes/no’), diverse beliefs in one are spread across tens of thousands of oppositional creeds, each of whom declares all the others false. Take artificial birth control, remarriage after a no-fault divorce, women’s ordination and same-sex marriage between gay people as examples. Any one of these perceived ‘sins’ earns you trillions of years of torment in The Lake of Scalding Sulphur according to sola scriptura orthodoxies such as Roman Catholicism, whereas sola fide denominations such as Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterians, Quakers and dozens of others have a god at their respective helms who welcomes their members into eternal paradise. Either there are many gods, each with their own rules, or there is one who is playing favourites – or of course, there is none at all.

  9. Wallace stated in a recent interview that FOX never once asked him to change a story. I doubt he’ll be given such freedom at CNN, where they either change the story to suit their narrative (which is the Democratic party narrative) or they ignore the story altogether. It doesn’t say much for Wallace’s integrity that he has now signed up with the most discredited and biased “news” program in America. Maybe he has a saviour complex. As for the professor of “pan-African studies” — we shouldn’t expect much in the way of truth or intellectual energy from any “studies” department. These were political departments from the beginning and have nothing to do with science, research or intellectual rigor. They’re just a place where activists go to indoctrinate lazy students who can’t make it in real academic departments. The fact that universities continue to support these pseudo-intellectual depts. despite the increasing racism coming out of them shows how far US standards have actually fallen.

  10. Facts are stubborn things – yada, yada, yada

  11. Are we surprised at anything coming out of a Leftist’s mouth these days”

Facts the Law, the Constitution, reality, and plain ol’ commonsense eludes them.

    There is no defending them….ever.

As to Wallace leaving FOX….now the viewership willl go up at that Outlet assuming they replace him with a Journalist of his Dad’s stature.

  12. Their sure-fire weapon of crying racism has failed to work this time, and they don’t like that.

    1. They play off of your phantom guilt. Why don’t you stop. Tell them you’re racist and its constitutional to have an opinion, oh, and to shut up become responsible and self-reliant.

  13. This latest nonsense from the world of academics is just another illustration of the sad state of our nation’s colleges and universities. This is the kind of garbage that now passes for scholarly opinion. And the worst part about it is that the taxpayers are paying the salaries of these frauds.

    1. Teachers and Professor unions must be terminated with extreme prejudice.

Administration must be down-sized and effective.

Student loans must be made by private sector institutions.

Grading must be codified and absolute.

The “product” of schools must have high value and be demonstrable.

  14. More embarrassing news for Turley:

“Fox News Is Fully Tucker TV Now That Chris Wallace Is Gone”

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-is-fully-tucker-carlson-tv-now-that-chris-wallace-is-gone

The second defection of a widely respected journalist abandoning Fox on account of its *advocacy journalism* which Turley has denounced repeatedly as a pernicious trend in today’s media. The article noted:

“Last month, in a long interview with Matthew Garrahan in the Financial Times, Wallace refused to comment on Carlson. Instead, he offered this bromide: “I am only responsible for and only have control over my piece of real estate. I’m proud of what we do… I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility to my audience and to the truth. Truth is non-negotiable. There’s no spin to truth. Truth is truth.”

As if Wallace’s resignation was not enough of a blow to Turley’s reputation as a Fox representative, one of his colleagues, Lara Logan, said the unthinkable:

“Fox Business anchor Liz Claman blasts fellow network star Lara Logan in scathing Twitter thread for comparing Dr Fauci to infamous Nazi ‘Angel of Death’ torturer Josef Mengele: Jewish host says ‘Dayenu. That’s Hebrew for ENOUGH!”

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10278599/Fox-Business-anchor-Liz-Claman-blasts-colleague-Lara-Logan-Mengele-remark.html

    The article noted:

“In a conversation with Pete Hegseth, a known critic of coronavirus vaccine mandates and masking policies, Logan accused the Biden administration of overhyping the still largely unknown strain.
‘There’s no justification for putting people out of there jobs or forcing mandates for a disease that’s ultimately very treatable, it’s cheap to treat, medicines are available all over the world, and it has death rates that compare very much to seasonal flu,’ Logan declared during the Monday night discussion. The South African journalist, who joined Fox last year, then set her sights on Fauci, and made the contentious comparison. ‘In that moment, what you see on Dr. Fauci, what people say to me, is that he doesn’t represent science to them.
‘He represents Josef Mengele – the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the second world war and in the concentration camps.’ Logan added: ‘I’m talking about people all across the world who are saying this.’”

How proud Turley must be to be associated with a network which has yet to publicly condemn its reporter for making such an abominable comparison.

Will Turley have anything to say about Wallace’s abrupt departure from his network on the heels of Stephen Hayes’ and Jonah Goldberg’s, commentators like himself? Will Turley add his voice to that of his colleague, Claman, who bravely, honestly and publicly condemned Logan’s unimaginable comparison of Fauci with Mengele or will he keep his mouth shut?

Will Turley- at long last- say, “Enough” or will he wait for yet a 3rd journalist, i.e., Brett Baier, to abandon Fox in the wake of Shep Smith’s and Wallace’s departures?

I fear we will hear the usual sound of crickets….

    1. jeffsilberman

Your usual dose of Fox “whataboutism” fails to convince (as usual).

You really are a one trick pony.

      1. Monument says:

“Your usual dose of Fox “whataboutism” fails to convince (as usual)”

I don’t write for lying Trumpists. I know you are a dead-ender. I appeal to the conscience of those here who reject Trumpism.

Turley has sold out to Fox. He WILL depart the network one day, but he will never get his reputation back. Unlike Baier, Smith and Wallace, Turley has yet to express ANY reservation about the advocacy journalism propagandized in the shows of Carlson, Levin, Ingraham or Hannity.

His silence proves that he won’t defend their lies; on the other hand, he cannot condemn them either without jeopardizing his job. So, he says nothing. A moral coward.

        1. Yes, Jeff, we know you hate Turley for his imagined sins…

But how about a comment on the topic Turley directly addresses — an openly racist BLM-LA founder refusing to acknowledge Smollet’s hoax/crime and conviction in the face of overwhelming evidence? Her contention that the entire U.S. judicial system is based on, and supports, white supremacy. That the corporate mainstream media, whom you so obviously adore and relentlessly support, ignores and minimizes the jury’s verdict, after gaslighting the entire nation over his hoax.

Do you still think BLM is nothing more than black folk not wanting to feel inferior to white folk? Oh, that’s right, you don’t know any BLM members, have no desire to meet any BLM members, and you would never invite BLM members into your home. You have no skin in the game, since you’ve never protested for or against anything, and are nothing more than a keyboard radical.

Your silence on the topic is convenient, just like the mainstream media.

          1. Spanky,

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: I more often than not agree with Turley’s criticisms and opinions.

My complaint is his abject HYPOCRISY! As an employee of Fox, he has NO moral standing nor intellectual honesty to point his finger at the MSM without ALSO acknowledging identical faults at Fox as evidenced by the defections of long-standing Fox journalists and commentators.

It has to be embarrassing to his friends, colleagues, students and family members that people are departing his network on principle. Shep Smith and Chris Wallace both now work for what the Fox primetime hosts call the “fake news.” Turley has NEVER used that word, but he legitimates that attitude by appearing on their shows.

It’s disgraceful which explains why Turley has said nothing because his conduct is indefensible for a man who claims to be opposed to the “age of rage.”

            1. It’s disgraceful which explains why Turley has said nothing because his conduct is indefensible for a man who claims to be opposed to the “age of rage.” — jeffsilberman

              Weak sauce Jeff.

Try addressing the topic Turley raises rather than the sins you imagine him having committed. All you’ve done here is pivot between Turley evil for his association with Fox News, and Turley good because you occasionally agree with him.

If unable to bring yourself to discuss Melina Abdullah’s comments, which further exacerbate the age of rage you claim to oppose and reflects badly upon BLM whom you claim to support, try addressing these age of rage and evidence-free comments made by MSNBC employees on Meet the Press yesterday…

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maK2sthjlJU&list=PL0tDb4jw6kPzzvIBrLUGHUkVkj3oIz-eY&index=1

The relevant propaganda begins at 32:08.

              Or this 2:41 second excerpt…

              https://www.bitchute.com/video/67qzjRQEXWDv/

Exactly how is this corporate mainstream news channel not feeding into the age of rage you so love to decry?

If you make no reply on the merits of either, consider your silence …indefensible for a man who claims to be opposed to the “age of rage.”

              1. Spanky says:

“Try addressing the topic Turley raises rather than the sins you imagine him having committed. All you’ve done here is pivot between Turley evil for his association with Fox News, and Turley good because you occasionally agree with him.”

That’s right though I don’t call Turley “evil.” I don’t believe in *evil* like “people of faith.”

I’ll say what I want to say; it’s called freedom of speech. And there is not a goddamn thing you or anybody else can do about it as long as I am civil. Them’s the rules of this blog; and I expect Turley via his enforcer, Darren, to abide by those rules. This blog is not a safe-space for lying Trumpists. Period.

I actually agree with those commentators on that MSNBC clip. I have read many Trumpists here either explicitly or implicitly indicate that violence is justified in taking back the country.

Frankly, why wouldn’t Republicans feel so justified if an election had actually been stolen somehow by Democrats.

BUT there is NO evidence of massive voter fraud; just Trump’s Big Lie.

I understand that Trumpists are enraged by constantly being reminded of their Big Lie. That’s too bad. Get used to being called “liars” as long as you stand with Trump. Turley has NEVER stated that he thinks the election was stolen though to his discredit, he has never stated that it IS a lie. He is silent on the matter because Fox is being sued for defamation for broadcasting this lie, and Turley understandably does not wish to make any public statement on the matter during the course of his employer’s lawsuit.

Turley condemns the rage elicited from media lies and exaggerations NOT from the angry backlash by those being accused of lying or exaggerating. The former is avoidable: the latter is not.

                1. A partisan hypocrite… why am I not surprised.

Your silence is indefensible for a man who claims to be opposed to the “age of rage.”

                  1. I have NEVER denied that Liberals and Leftists are guilty of fanning the rage in society. Of course, they have done so and continue to do so. That goes without saying.

My complaint is that Turley points ONLY to examples at the media competitors of his company, namely, CNN and MSNBC. When it comes to Rightwing rage, he has a blind spot. Again, prove me wrong by citing 1- just 1- example of his criticizing Carlson, Levin, Ingraham or Hannity for fueling the rage in this country.

You want rage, my friend, here it is in spades:

                    https://youtu.be/2b7Owc1m3Gg

Textbook Fox rage ignored by Turley. Hypocrisy.

                    1. I have NEVER denied that Liberals and Leftists are guilty of fanning the rage in society. Of course, they have done so and continue to do so. That goes without saying. — jeffsilberman

Have you ever considered, Jeff, that Turley might think the continuous and ongoing attacks against, and censorship of, conservatives by the left and its media, big tech and government allies is causing rising and justifiable anger on the right? Those acts and lies have consequences which you all too conveniently ignore and minimize in your hyper-partisanship.

                    2. Spanky says:

“Have you ever considered, Jeff, that Turley might think the continuous and ongoing attacks against, and censorship of, conservatives by the left and its media, big tech and government allies is causing rising and justifiable anger on the right?”

I don’t consider private discrimination of Rightwing disinformation or misinformation censorship. Only Big Brother censors. People don’t have a right to be heard. Fox News has banned lawyers Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and anyone else championing the Big Lie. Does Turley consider their silencing on Fox “censorship”? Of course not. You can’t discriminate against certain classes of people, but you certainly can their speech. Those lawyers can be heard on Newsmax and OAN where they are welcome.

I believe in ignoring, shaming, ostracizing and boycotting liars- on the Left or the Right. That’s the only way we the people- not the Government- can maintain a civil society. If people are angry being held accountable for their bad speech and facing consequences, that is how it should be. Maybe they will change their bad speech.

Maybe you missed my response to Karen:

I repeat again and again that for the most part I agree with Turley’s opinions and criticisms of the MSM. My overriding complaint is his working for Fox News which is the main culprit in fanning the rage in our day and age of which I applaud Turley for denouncing. The problem is that Turley refuses to acknowledge his employer’s hand in this deplorable state of affairs.

I would be content were Turley simply to state:

“I am not going to criticize Fox, or any of the Rightwing networks for that matter, until I leave Fox’s employ. I acknowledge that I am not an impartial and objective legal commentator so long as I am on Fox’s payroll.”

                      That’s all.

                    3. I believe in ignoring, shaming, ostracizing and boycotting liars- on the Left or the Right. — jeffsilberman

Did MSNBC broadcast lies about Trump and Russian collusion?

Do you ignore, shame or boycott MSNBC for doing so?

Do you believe what MSNBC broadcast yesterday on Meet the Press, with no evidence whatsoever, that 30 million Trump supporters are planning and preparing a violent overthrow of the Biden Administration in order to return Trump to the Oval Office?

Yes, Jeff, there is evil in the world that even I, an agnostic, can plainly see.

                    4. Spanky asks:

“Did MSNBC broadcast lies about Trump and Russian collusion?”

Nope. There WAS collusion- when Manafort handed over secret polling data in swing states to FSB operative Kilimnik, THAT was collusion. What Mueller did not find was SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE to charge a CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY.

Mueller stated: “If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that.” The Report did NOT exonerate Trump. Had not Manafort refused to cooperate with Mueller, maybe they would have gotten more evidence, but Manafort knew he had a presidential pardon awaiting him in return for not flipping on Trump.

I disagree with some MSNBC narratives- I don’t call the 1/6 event an “insurrection.” I describe it as a riot. Turley called it a “desecration of the Capitol.” I don’t think the rioters would have hung Pence had they gotten their hands on him. I agree with Turley that Trump’s speech was “reckless” nut not a violation of speech amounting to criminal conduct.

In that video clip, John Heileman says that a poll indicates that 30 million Trumpists believe that violence is justified to take back the country because they believe the Democrats will steal the next election. I’d like to see that poll, but there is no doubt that such a belief is widespread by those who believe in the “Stop the Steal” false narrative. Where he went too far was stating that these 30 million are “ready to take up arms.” That is a gross exaggeration since believing violence is justified does not mean they will actually do it, but some- too many- undoubtedly would be prepared to kill because they have been preparing to overthrow the government for many years- hoarding weapons and training. However, I don’t believe that these militia groups stand a chance to succeed.

When Trump lies to his followers that the election was stolen from them, why shouldn’t we expect violence- 1/6- case in point. It’s not 30 million. Maybe it’s only 30,000 who would take up arms.

That’s bad enough. I don’t call these “locked and loaded” Trumpists *evil.* I call them suckers for swallowing the lies of a conman. I don’t hate them; I pity them.

                    5. “People of faith” are by definition irrational. Religious people believe things without ANY evidence to believe them- that’s precisely why they need faith! — jeffsilberman

Although you try to use your atheism as a rational shield, you too are a believer — you simply believe there is no god, Jeff. That’s faith too. You’ve replaced religion with ideology, and your belief is as deeply rooted as any religious fundamentalist. You are an ideologue.

People in the political center are being forced to take sides by the radical left, Democratic Party, Biden Administration, intelligence agencies, corporate mainstream media, and big tech. I didn’t come here to support or defend Trump. But considering the constant and unrelenting propaganda and attacks in comments directed at both Trump and his supporters, not to mention the total and unqualified support for anything the radical left proposes, the corporate mainstream media broadcasts, or the Biden Administration implements… perhaps Trump deserves a second chance. You are convincing me.

        2. These people get all these degrees and then they open their mouths. She’s the BLM founder in LA did anyone think she’s going to praise police? You pay up the behind that hopefully your kid will leave college as the best candidate for a job. Instead you get someone in spite of the facts believing the world is flat.

        3. The most hilarious thing about your schtick is that you seem to believe your opinion matters to Turley. There is exactly zero evidence that your daily ‘blah, blah, blah Fox News’ and ‘blah, blah, blah Trump” comments have altered Turley’s behavior in any way. He continues to appear on Fox News. He continues to write about what is important to him. And he publishes it on this blog and elsewhere.

Nor is there evidence that Turley has become less popular. On July 18, 2020, Turley posted that the number of cumulative hits to the blog had reached 43,000,000. About nine months later, on April 26, 2021, the number of cumulative hits had reached 50 million. Between those dates you were engaged in your daily ‘blah, blah, blah Fox News and Trump’ schtick, and yet Turley’s blog became more popular.

          1. Maybe and maybe not. His silence in the face of this Fox turmoil is damning. We can’t know what his liberal and Leftist family members, friends, colleagues and students are asking him about this embarrassing turn of events. He cannot be pleased that he has to appear with “1/6 Truther” Tucker Carlson who is fast becoming not unlike Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist, who I presume Turley would NOT appear alongside.

        4. Jeff S.
As an independent, you are definitely not winning any of us over.
We are definitely not pro-Trump, but your posts and others like you come off as obsessed to the point of a hysterical zealot.
Trump has been out of office since last January. Get over it.
Your obsession with Professor Turley is equally disturbing. Like, Rebecca Schaeffer obsessed fan disturbing.
While you may have a low opinion of the Professor, as is your right, the majority of those whom post here on a regular basis, do not share in your opinion.

          1. Upstate Farmer says:

“As an independent, you are definitely not winning any of us over…. While you may have a low opinion of the Professor, as is your right, the majority of those whom post here on a regular basis, do not share in your opinion.”

Well then, I guess I have to keep trying to persuade you. As I have said, I am not writing to convince lying Trumpists. They are dead-enders. They will NEVER disagree with Trump’s lies.

We do know that Turley is no Trumpist. That’s obvious. What we don’t know is his attitude about the recent defections at his employer. He is too craven to take a public stand.

I’m going to keep shaming Turley. If just one person close to Turley reading this blog may be persuaded by me and consequently confronts him privately, I’ll feel that my efforts are worth it. Who knows.

        5. Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. Please calm down. Do you even understand that FOX, CNN, and MSNBC are all subject to advocacy journalism? Notwithstanding, did you even bother to notice the high compliments Chris Wallace paid to FOX for giving him the freedom of expression and choice of journalistic content that at times was adverse to FOX’s main thrust???. The good professor has called out both conservative and left/ liberal journalists and news. Have you? Do you criticize Jim Acosta? Chris Cuomo? Don Lemon? Joy Reid? Anderson Cooper? yada yaya. You spend all your time demonizing Trump, Trumpists, Trumpism. Professor Turley has been a guest on most of these channels/stations, and calls it like he sees it. Conversely, your tunnel vision generally prevents that–unless you try (as you have, several times) to align yourself with Turley, ex-post-facto, after someone has pointed out your errors…

          1. Anonymous claims:

“The good professor has called out both conservative and left/ liberal journalists and news.”

Cite me 1- just one- instance where Turley has called out- by name- ANYONE at Fox News. I am aware of his once criticizing Hannity- not for his reporting- but for appearing at a Trump rally.

            I’m waiting for your response….

            1. Let me answer for him/her. The good professor seldom or never calls out journalists by name, whether conservative or left-wing. He DOES conglomerate right-leaning or left-leaning JOURNALISM that he believes is inappropriate/untrue/misleading/false, etc. More frequently, he is critical of slanted media and academia.

              1. Lin says:

“He [Turley] DOES conglomerate right-leaning or left-leaning JOURNALISM that he believes is inappropriate/untrue/misleading/false, etc.”

Ok, then, cite me 1 example- just one- where Turley criticizes his own Fox News, Newsmax or OAN by name. Surely, you are NOT going to deny that Turley criticizes MSNBC, CNN or the NYT by name!

                1. (by the way, I was responding to your challenge to “anonymous” calling for him/her to “name ANYONE at Fox….” –Like the Queen’s rook backed into a corner, you now challenge ME to “name” any criticism of “Fox News, OAN, [what was the third one?].” Of course, there are at least 3 answers: (1) He HAS criticized them by name-especially in any of the other press columns/interviews/news forums for which he writes/appears, (2) He does not find Fox News/OAN/[third one] as fault-worthy in truth distortion as some other sites/networks, (3) He has not criticized them by name.I cannot dispositively answer this because I do not follow all of his writings/appearances. But ot doesn’t matter. On behalf of “Anonymous,” I call you out on your own circular response: Anonymous asked YOU to cite your own criticism of Lemon, Acosta, Reid, et al (I would add Rachel Maddow) and you demurred. Likewise, Anonymous called you out for your selective/self-serving attempted alignment with Turley…you again demurred.

                  1. Lin,

The third Radical Right news outlet is “Newsmax.”

                    1) I read everything that Turley writes which I can find online. Take it from me that he has not criticized Fox, Newsmax or OAN. I may have missed a Rightwing criticism, but prove me wrong.

                    2) As Fox is concerned, Shep Smith, Mike Wallace, Jonah Goldberg, Stephen Hayes all left this account, and Brett Baier had also expressed his reservations with Carlson’s 1/6 Trutherism. If and when Baier, the lone remaining “anchorman,” abandons Fox, maybe then Turley will have something to say.

I have said repeatedly that I do not object to Turley finding fault with journalists at CNN and MSNBC. There is advocacy journalism at those outlets. I agree with most but not all of it. That is not the issue. My complaint is Turley’s hypocritically overlooking the same faults at Fox, et.al. He keeps his mouth shut because he is employed by Fox. He is a sell out.

                    1. (1) I suggest to you that Turley is not an employee of FOX. Prove me wrong. (2) You have not addressed your own failures to call out by name the left-wing persons identified by “Anonymous,” nor your selective alignment with Turley–only after someone calls you out. Prove me wrong. (3) If Turley is so guilty of hypocrisy, why do you return to this site on a daily basis? What is your true purpose? Surely not to comment/opine on the substantive matter? I also noticed that you-for the very first time I believe-answered someone’s comment by stating that you would like to “persuade” others to adopt your opinion. Really? It is strange and coincidental that you say this-for the first time- after I posted a comment last week that the good professor provides this forum in hopes that we can express and debate our opinions in an attempt to persuade others to see alternative sides to an issue–and not a site to be used for the endless name-calling and derision of “Trump, Trumpism, lying Trumpists,” etc. —Could it be that I have persuaded you? — to cool your own jets a little and try to engage in more substantive commentary?????? I have to leave for the evening, so take your time to think about your response. Thanks

                    2. (Sorry, Jeff-the ORANGE “Anonymous” responding to your reply to Lin is actually me-Lin. It posted before I could complete my name…)

    2. Hey Jeff, how are you doing? 3 days until my surgery then I will be off again. Maybe for a long time like my last respite.
On Wallace leaving- As you know I am not a Trump fan. But his obvious bias against Trump in the debate that he ” moderated” with Dementia Joe was ridiculous. Especially when he asked Trump to condemn the ” white supremacy ” at work in the Kenosha riots. Good riddance. Just for the record, on Twitter yesterday within minutes of him announcing his departure from Fox, I predicted that he was going to cnn. Not a stretch.
Shep Smith was no loss either.
I understand the departures of Hayes and Goldberg in response to Carlson’s take on Jan 6th. I don’t view it as an insurrection, but I said the whole ” rally” idea was stupid from the start. Nothing positive was going to come out of it. Just like these insane audits.
And Logan should be fired. Anyone making comparison’s with Mengele is insane and corrupt.
Any comment on msnbc not saying a SINGLE WORD on the Smollett verdict last Thursday? Do you think that there would have been ” the usual sound of crickets” had the verdict(s) been not guilty?
Maybe dinner in a couple of months?

      1. Hi Paul,

How ya doing? I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery.

I’m no particular fan of Wallace for a different reason than yours. I’m no fan of anybody who works for Fox since I believe the prime time hosts lie through their teeth. Wallace does not lie, but like Turley he refuses to condemn the liars among his colleagues. When Wallace does condemn false narratives, he does not name names. Until good people name bad people, this county will never purge liars.

I am not surprised you predicted Wallace would decamp to CNN; after all, you make a living at betting on the odds. With Smith and Wallace out, there is only Baier. I think it is rather telling that straight reporters- in good conscience- can’t remain to be associated with Fox opinion-makers who create false narratives like, for instance, 1/6 being a False Flag operation.

I don’t view 1/6 as an insurrection or a coup. It was a riot. I criticize MSNBC and CNN for overstating it. I do believe Trump was finagling to remain in power, and he was hoping that Pence would make it possible along with Republican held States switching their Electors, but the rioters themselves could have only bought some time. Their riot alone would not have been sufficient.

I agree that there were many in the MSM who jumped to the wrong conclusion in the Smollett case on account of their bias. I wish NO ONE- on the Left or the Right- would opine on a pending trial. I know it is wishful thinking. I wish everyone would reserve judgment until the jury first decides. As a lawyer, I despise the court of public opinion where there are no rules of evidence!

    3. what people say to me, is that he doesn’t represent science to them.
‘He represents Josef Mengele – the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the second world war and in the concentration camps.’ Logan added: ‘I’m talking about people all across the world who are saying this.’”

How proud Turley must be to be associated with a network which supports its reporter bringing controversial and anti-establishment viewpoints from people all over the world.

FIFY. I am absolutely confident that JT supports honest journalism.

      1. Olly says:

“FIFY. I am absolutely confident that JT supports honest journalism.”

Then why does Turley remain at a network where commentators and journalists are fleeing? Even Brett Baier who is still hanging on expressed his discomfort with Tucker Carlson’s advocacy journalism that 1/6 was a false flag operation:

“Brian, I won’t go down this road. There were concerns about it, definitely, and I think the news division did what we do,” he said. “We covered the story, and I wanted to do that all internally. Steve and Jonah made their decision, and it is their decision.”

“Baier was referring to Stephen Hayes and Jonah Goldberg, conservative commentators who have been with the network since 2009. They announced on Sunday that they were resigning, in part in protest over the documentary, calling it “a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering, riddled with factual inaccuracies, half-truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions.”

        https://deadline.com/2021/11/bret-baier-tucker-carlson-january-6-patriot-purge-fox-nation-1234879504/

If only we could ask Turley what he thinks of the defections at his network. You Trumpists mocked Biden for hiding in his basement and not entertaining questions, but you have no complaint that Turley is hiding in his Ivory Tower unwilling to deign to take serious questions from his readers.

    4. And what does any of this have to do with the Professor’s blog post of today? Are you paid to do this?

      1. Whig asks:

“And what does any of this have to do with the Professor’s blog post of today? Are you paid to do this?”

Unlike Turley, I am not paid to write. I do so out of conviction; not money.

    5. Jeff,

If Fox News is as biased as you claim, how do you account for this?

It is the last time — and I say this with real sadness — we will meet like this, [Wallace] said. Eighteen years ago, the bosses here at Fox promised me they would never interfere with a guest I booked or a question I asked. And they kept that promise. I have been free to report to the best of my ability, to cover the stories I think are important, to hold our country’s leaders to account. It’s been a great ride.

      https://www.zerohedge.com/political/chris-wallace-leaves-fox-joins-cnn-streaming

      1. Spanky,

That statement does not conflict with his leaving Fox on account of his disagreement with the Carlson’s advocacy journalism in “Patriot Purge.”

“According to a report from NPR’s David Folkenflik, Baier and Fox News’ Chris Wallace shared their objections over the documentary series with Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and Jay Wallace, president of the news division.”

        https://deadline.com/2021/11/bret-baier-tucker-carlson-january-6-patriot-purge-fox-nation-1234879504/

“Wallace was one of three prominent straight-news journalists at Fox News. Shepard Smith left for CNBC in 2019, so only Bret Baier now remains at the network. Baier and a handful of other journalists will take turns hosting Fox News Sunday for the time being. Wallace and Baier had recently voiced their complaints to Fox News top executives about opinion host Tucker Carlson’s revisionist history of the Jan. 6 Capitol siege, NPR reported last month.”

        https://theweek.com/chris-wallace/1008007/chris-wallaces-fox-news-colleagues-were-reportedly-shellshocked-by-his-jump

    6. Chris Wallace’s contract was up and it’s likely that it simply was not renewed. Wallace’s news delivery tended to be tedious and always was surprised he didn’t try the written media where his negatives would not have shown. Apparently he did not grow up in his father’s house and maybe that accounts for his disappointing delivery and thoughts as well. And do note, he has been hired by CNN’s new streaming department. That means paying for the folks they showcase. May not be a winning situation for either Wallace or CNN.

      1. Even so, it’s not a good look for Turley that 2 out of 3 straight news reporters have abandoned Fox leaving only Baier who himself has objected to Carlson’s 1/6 trutherism. Why won’t Turley say something?

How can his criticism of *advocacy journalism* at the MSM be taken seriously when he ignores it at his own network especially when people are defecting on account of it?

    7. Lara Logan in scathing Twitter thread for comparing Dr Fauci to infamous Nazi ‘Angel of Death’ torturer Josef Mengele: Jewish host says ‘Dayenu.

If you don’t believe there is any truth to this, you need to read The Real Anthony Fauci by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Unlike, the supporters of Fauci, he presents well-documented facts, data and first hand accounts of the Fauci’s malpractice and corruption. His total sellout to big pharma has likely cost at least 300,000 American lives in the current COVID pandemic. The even sadder part is that he has done this before when he thrust the deadly and ineffective AZT onto the people with HIV and AIDS. Regardless, of what opinion you have of Robert Kennedy you need to see the facts AND evidence he presents.

Please don’t bother to discount these claims unless you read the book, review the many citations, and/or support your arguments with equally credible information.

      1. Carpslaw,

You are wrong. You are ALONE in thinking there is ANY truth in what Logan said. Even Fox has silenced her. Enough.

        1. I am hardly alone. If you read Robert F. Kennedy’s book you’ll see he cites many, many scientists who make highly credible claims about the harms he has done. Read the book then tell me I’m wrong. Until then you are making claims you can’t back with facts.

          1. Carpslaw,

I’m already vaccinated. I’m no scientist. I would not be able to refute the (dis)information in that book. As a layman, I’m going with the consensus of medical opinion.

            1. Hey Jeff, I posted a reply to you on Dec 11 8:47 AM. And you did not reply. I posted again to you on Dec. 13 8:47 and you did not reply. You had later posts both of those days.
You are giving me an inferiority complex.

  15. The things she said are racist. Basically she yells that whatever any white person does is racist.

  16. Better to be silent and thought a fool than to say something like that and remove any doubt?

  17. One could ask how a human being’s brain could allow for this most extreme stance, absent a trauma.

      1. The BLM movement is the fruit of this tree…a vile, hateful race hustler who monetizes the idea that skin pigmentation is of greater value than character.
