Public Health Scotland Stops Releasing Covid Data to Protect The Public From Reaching Bad Conclusions

Public Health Scotland (PHS) is upset that critics are using its data to oppose Covid mandates and policies.  PHS believes that the anti-vaxxers are seizing on the data to undermine its case for continued mandates. One official is quoted as saying that “[t]he case rates, hospitalization rates, the death rates are very simple statistics” and critics are misreading the data “inappropriately and sometimes willfully.” The solution? PHS will reportedly stop sharing the data with the public. It appears that it is not enough for companies like Twitter to ban critics from social media. Now, citizens will be protected not just from opposing views but information that will only confuse them.

According to papers like The Herald, the PHS will now withhold data after critics noted that, for the first time, the case rate among vaccinated (and boosted) individuals had overtaken the unvaccinated for Covid. The PHS notes that there are various reasons for this shift and that it does not support anti-vax theories.

These officials raise some interesting points to explain the differential, including what is viewed as a higher testing rate for the vaccinated and the overestimation of the size of the unvaxxed population. However, that is the point. I was able to read the interpretation of both sides and reach my own conclusions.  These are not particularly complex explanations for the different rates. Free speech allows both sides to be heard by an informed electorate. These policies impact every aspect of our lives. Citizens should be allowed access to this data — as should experts who may have opposing views of their import.

Instead, the impulse of these officials is to bar access to information to protect the public from itself. It is reminiscent of the call by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) for Amazon and other companies to use algorithms to steer readers away from bad choices. There was also the letter from Democratic Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney of California to cable carriers like AT&T asking why they are still allowing people to watch Fox News.  The problem is that citizens are reaching the wrong conclusions or reading the wrong sources and must be protected from their own proclivities or ignorance.

Even the W.H.O. has publicly supported calls for censorship to combat what it describes as the “infodemic.”

Public health policy is subject to democratic change and citizens should have access to data to make informed decisions. The PHS and its critics can then offer their own interpretations as part of a national debate. James Madison said “a popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance.” Indeed, “knowledge will govern ignorance” unless the government controls what citizens can know.

  1. When people sign-up for the military, one of the often heard reasons is to defend freedom. Whose freedom? The freedom of civilians. I’m a civilian. So when I want trained professional to do what they signed-up to do, knowing all of the risks that come with the territory, and what I’m partially paying for, to defend my freedom, I’m the bad guy? This makes no sense. Get this: Modern isolationists and pacifists are benefitting from all the dead soldiers from wars past that have kept America free.

  2. TiT,

    Don’t evade my pointed question:

If Turley sees through Trump as a “carnival snake charmer,” why can’t you?

  3. How could this be. The vaccinated are getting Covid at a higher rate than the unvaccinated. Biden said that if everyone gets vaccinated the virus will disappear. Now we find out that the virus will still effect you even if you are vaccinated and wear the mask even in your sleep. Boots boots boots boots hear their pounding on the street. Boots boots boots boots on the feet of the vaccinated little sheep. The possibility of a two year old dying from covid is close to zero. But the two year old could still give me the virus. Guess what, even if your are vaccinated and wear your mask twenty four hours a day you can still get the virus and you can still give the virus to the two year old. The vaccine should be administered to the elderly and people who are sick from other maladies as a precaution but should be optional for younger healthy people. For those who say we have a social responsibility to get vaccinated in order to protect others I say you can still get and give the virus to others even if your vaccinated. The only way to never get or transfer the virus is to entirely remove yourself from society. According to your logic only your entire removal from society will be the only way that you can meet your social responsibility. You can’t have one foot in and one foot out and be considered sensible.

    1. There is no vaccine. There is an mRNA pretreatment which is directed at the now-extinct original. No one should ever get jabbed again. It simply cannot work due to chemistry. Further there are new side-effects discovered every day. Among them is that the body responds to a variant by generating antibodies to the no-longer-present original. By responding this way, response to the variant is lowered.
N95 masks only have a small degree of slowing the spread. Very small degree. Almost nothing. Cloth/homemade — nothing.

  4. The unvaccinated need to recognize that science has proven the Vaxx to be 100% safe and effective. The Vaxx has proven to be completely safe to Vaxx manufacturers, providing 100% immunity from lawsuits. The Vaxx has also proven to be 100% effective at generating outlandish profits for Vaxx manufacturers. Don’t fight the science. It is futile to do so.

    1. This is pretty good descriptive very short video. But damn few care about themselves much less their kids & Grandkids, friends or neighbors so they won’t do an ounce of research.

If you would, pass this msg along. Thks.

    1. 667 Athlete Cardiac Arrests, Serious Issues, 414 Dead, After COVID Shot

It is definitely not normal for so many mainly young athletes to suffer from cardiac arrests or to die while playing their sport, but this year it is happening. Many of these heart issues and deaths come shortly after they got a COVID vaccine. While it is possible this can happen to people who did not get a COVID vaccine, the sheer numbers clearly point to the only obvious cause.

The so-called health professionals running the COVID vaccine programs around the world keep repeating that “the COVID vaccine is a normal vaccine and it is safe and effective.”

        1. So unfortunate that you cited to the Washington Post. WaPo was once a reliable news source but it is now owned by a billionaire plutocrat. It has devolved into an outlet for dangerous dis- and mis-information in support of a partisan political agenda. More and more Americans are calling for the WaPo’s immediate deplatforming to protect public safety and put an end to the crisis of disinformation. Please, try to stick to reliable sources!

  6. “Freedom and Self-Reliance”

In America, that some desire care from others, dependence and parasitism, does not nullify individual rights, freedoms, privileges and immunities provided by the Constitution, or the severe limits and restrictions placed on government by that document.

Healthcare is not the constitutional purview of Congress. Congress has no power to impose, administer or regulate healthcare. Congress has no power to tax for Medicare, Obamacare or the CDC. Americans enjoy the freedom, and bear the responsibility, of individual healthcare. Congress has no “emergency” power. Congress has only the power to suspend habeas corpus in a condition of rebellion or invasion, not in a condition of secession or infection.

The critical data regarding “China Flu, 2019” is that China was negligent, derelict and the cause of the creation and spread of “China Flu, 2019,” just has China was the cause of the creation and spread of “Spanish Flu, 1918,” “Hong Kong Flu, 1969,” et al.

The ultimate salient data regarding “China Flu, 2019” is that China is legally and financially responsible for any and all death and damage caused by “China Flu, 2019.”

Remove the lipstick from the pig.

China is not a country, China is a smoldering shambles of communicable disease, financial responsibility and debt to every nation on planet Earth that suffered damage and decimation from “China Flu, 2019.”

Where in God’s name are all the dastardly “attorneys” for the 194 nations on Earth harmed by China?

      1. No, spotted in Kansas but probably from China by way of WW I workers transported to the west coast and by train to the east and then shipped to the Western Front.

      2. “China Epicenter of 1918 Flu Pandemic, Historian Says”

According to new research by a Canadian historian, the 1918 flu outbreak that killed 50 million people originated in China.

“…Canada gave its assent for the Chinese laborers to land in Vancouver, travel across the country by train and depart for Europe from the Atlantic port of Halifax.”

Humphries, author of “The Last Plague: Spanish Influenza and the Politics of Public Health in Canada,” writes that victims of a mysterious respiratory disease that broke out in northern China in November 1917 suffered many of the same symptoms as those of the “Spanish flu.” Doctors reported that patients turned blue from a lack of oxygen, coughed up blood and suffered from fevers, headaches, pneumonia and shortness of breath. The highly contagious and deadly disease was particularly unusual in that it killed otherwise healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 40 by seemingly turning their strong immune systems against them. However, with no solid scientific evidence of the outbreak’s cause, local Chinese health officials labeled it “winter sickness” and chose not to quarantine citizens or enact travel restrictions. How would have the influenza strain spread from China to North America and Europe? Humphries points to a historical footnote from World War I—the shipment of 94,000 laborers from northern China to southern England and France to free up able-bodied British and French citizens to fight on the front lines of the Western Front. During the winter of 1917, upwards of 20,000 workers a month from the plague-infected area of China arrived in the British-leased port city of Weihaiwei to become part of the Chinese Labor Corps. They were packed into crowded barracks, which were breeding grounds for influenza. Although the British were aware of the outbreaks at their barracks, they still shipped out the Chinese workers. The Chinese Labor Corps was originally transported around Africa or by way of the Suez Canal, but as resources were diverted to troop transports, the British needed an alternative route to Europe. Canada gave its assent for the Chinese laborers to land in Vancouver, travel across the country by train and depart for Europe from the Atlantic port of Halifax. However, with nativist feelings running high in wartime Canada and fears that the Chinese laborers might attempt to escape inside their country, Canadian authorities kept the operation secret, banning coverage of it in the press and placing special army guards inside sealed train cars with the Chinese workers and stationing them at camps encased in barbed wire. Humphries found medical records indicating that more than 3,000 of the 25,000 Chinese Labor Corps workers transported across Canada beginning in 1917 ended up in medical quarantine, many with flu-like symptoms. The influenza ripped through the Canadian guards and soon took root in North America. “Ethnocentric fears—both official and popular—facilitated its spread along military pathways that had been carved out across the globe to sustain the war effort on the Western Front,” Humphries write.

  7. Olly quoting Bongino declares:

“Conservatives believe Liberals are people with bad ideas. Liberals believe Conservatives are bad people with ideas.”

Well, isn’t that special? Let’s witness a recent example of a Trumpist NOT calling Liberals *bad people* shall we?

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/mark-levin-hannity-american-people-power-democrats-canada-truckers

Olly would like you to think that Mark Levin wants Fox’s viewers not to believe that Liberal Democrats are *bad people” notwithstanding that they are hell bent on destroying everything that Conservatives hold dear! Oh, they also hate this country.

Is it any wonder why Turley has NEVER and WILL NEVER acknowledge the existence of Mark Levin by name as one of his Fox colleagues? I can understand Turley ignoring the hateful diatribes of Alex Jones, BUT Levin works for Fox News, and he is championed on Hannity which show Turley also graces with his presence.

The very fact that Turley has NOT ONCE EVER called out Levin’s rage on Fox is a reason why Turley’s condemnation of our “age of rage” is as hollow as it is hypocritical.

    1. JeffSilberman, if you want to take Fox News off the air, shame Professor Turley and cancel anyone who does not agree with you than indeed are a bad person. Levin is just calling things for what they are. I know, you will soon say that you have never said any of the things you have said on this forum. It won’t work because we read you every day.

      1. TiT,

At least you don’t deny as Bongino does that Trumpists call Liberals *bad people* as Levin would have Fox’s viewers believe.

I don’t advocate it, but I would not object if my Dish Network were to remove Newsmax and Fox from its channels for the same reason it does not currently broadcast the Big Lie propaganda of OAN and the conspiratorial hatred of Infowars. You do realize that Direct TV is cancelling OAN. Has Turley said a word? Nope.

I don’t hate you Thinkitthrough nor any Trumpists I have never met. I pity your being duped by Trump; Turley sees through him; why can’t you?

        1. JeffSilberman, you say you don’t advocate the cancellation of Fox News or OAN but then you say it would not be a problem for you if they were removed. What you admit is that you would be in favor of the censorship of Fox and OAN by your silence concerning such censorship. Over and over again you display your leaning toward dictatorial practices. Castro eliminated sources of news that he didn’t agree with. You are in fine company with your advocation of the same.

          1. TiT says:

“you say you don’t advocate the cancellation of Fox News or OAN but then you say it would not be a problem for you if they were removed. What you admit is that you would be in favor of the censorship of Fox and OAN by your silence concerning such censorship.”

“DirecTV is dropping One America News Network from its lineup, a surprise move that’s sure to deal a massive blow to the network that rose to prominence during the presidency of Donald Trump.”

            https://www.npr.org/2022/01/15/1073407803/directv-to-drop-one-america-news-network

Turley and I are in the SAME boat. He does not advocate for the dropping of Fox’s media competitor on the right, but neither has he criticized DirecTV for doing so!

How do you explain that FACT?

I’ll wait for your answer until Hell freezes over….

      2. JeffSilberman, if you want to take Fox News off the air, shame Professor Turley and cancel anyone who does not agree with you than indeed are a bad person.

Bongino’s quote is of course a generalization and not necessarily an opinion shared by all Conservatives. Silberman has indeed proven himself to be a bad person.

        1. Olly,

Ask Paul if I am a bad person. He has an open invitation to join him for dinner. I am known for having a good disposition- I give as good as I get. However, I won’t tolerate being lied to my face.

I admire your military service. I’ve never made such a sacrifice for my county. I suppose you have earned the privilege to call me anything you want.

          1. However, I won’t tolerate being lied to my face.

Not only have you tolerated it, you’ve repeated it. Good people will believe lies because those lies validate their beliefs. But good people have zero tolerance for liars once those lies are exposed. They will make it their mission to make sure everyone knows who the liars are. They will question everything the liars have said and done and expose that as well. Bad people on the other hand will not only ignore lies, they will be participants in spreading them. They are not as much interested in the truth as they are in advancing a narrative. Stupid bad people will repeat lies despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Smart bad people simply move on to the next narrative once the lies are exposed, all for the cause.

Kurtz, can you cut edit that down a few hundred words?

            Here’s the facts:

            1. Unlike your bedtime story, experts across all parties and appointments agree that Russia interfered with the 2016 election in favor of Trump and against Hillary.
            2. Trump actively sought Russian help and even coordinated events with them during the 2016 election
            3. Throughout his presidency Trump has acted in Putin’s interest and even defended and took his side against our own experts.
            4. Trump refuses to take any action in defense of further meddling by the Russians in the 2020 election.
            5. There evidence that Trump may owe money to Russians and that he has sought to expand his businesses there, though he hides his financial records to an extant unheard of for a president since at least before Reagan.

The ball is in his court to prove he’s not a traitor with his balls in Putin’s pocket and maybe he’ll attempt that in his coming infomercial. Smart observers will assume he is a traitor until proven otherwise.

            1. Olly says:

“Good people will believe lies because those lies validate their beliefs.”

True. That’s why Turley called Trump a “carnival snake charmer” because he lies to validate good people’s beliefs.

              You say:

“But good people have zero tolerance for liars once those lies are exposed.”

True. I have zero tolerance for Trumpist liars as does Turley.

              You say:

“They will make it their mission to make sure everyone knows who the liars are.”

True. It is my mission here to make sure everyone knows Trump is a chronic and habitual liar.

              You say:

“They will question everything the liars have said and done and expose that as well.”

              Check. Trying sir!

              You say:

“Bad people, on the other hand, will not only ignore lies, they will be participants in spreading them.”

True again. That’s why I say *lying Trumpists* to make clear that not every Trumpist is a liar.

              You say:

“They are not as much interested in the truth as they are in advancing a narrative.”

You are batting 1000%. Two words- Fox News. We shall find out whether Fox News will be held liable for defaming Dominion and Smartmatic. However, I may have to report that result here because I’m afraid that Turley will not unless Fox is found not liable or the case is dismissed.

              You say:

“Stupid bad people will repeat lies despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.”

Absolutely. Like the *election was stolen* lie despite no evidence of massive fraud. Turley agrees that no such evidence has been proffered.

              You say:

“Smart bad people simply move on to the next narrative once the lies are exposed, all for the cause.”

Yes. Trump moved on when his Birtherism was exposed as a lie: https://www.npr.org/2016/09/16/494231757/without-apology-trump-now-says-obama-was-born-in-the-u-s

Olly, we agree on ALL points. You are not so bad after all! Thanks for your service.

              1. 🤣 Now that we’ve agreed on definitions, the question remains on whether you are a stupid bad person, or a smart bad person. Hint: because a good person wouldn’t be limited by one political figure, one political party and only conservative news outlets.

                1. Olly,

I thought we were making progress on reaching a detente, but it seems you just want to prevaricate.

                    1. Have I lied to you?

Your fixation on Trump, Conservative media and Turley has you lying by omission. You’re not lying to me, you’re lying to yourself.

    2. “It’s the [Constitution], stupid!’

      – James Carville
      _____________

Dictates, mental machinations, prevarications and slaverings by various and sundry ostensible sources aside, the “manifest tenor” of the Constitution is what you want to pay strict attention and adherence to.

People and enterprises are 99% free, of taxation and regulation, while government is severely limited and restricted to the provision of merely security and infrastructure.

Per the Constitution, Americans really, really are really free, while government barely exists – read it sometime.

That’s the nature of the American thesis: Freedom and Self-Reliance.
