President Biden Repeats False Claim about the Second Amendment

President Joe Biden on Wednesday repeated a claim about the Second Amendment that some of us have repeatedly challenged as untrue.  In asserting that “the Second Amendment is not absolute,” President Biden repeated his claim that certain weapons were prohibited at the time that the Second Amendment was ratified. That is simply untrue.

The statement that the Second Amendment is not absolute is certainly true. There are laws that can be crafted within the confines set out under controlling Supreme Court precedent. However, as discussed in a column, President Biden continues to ignore those constitutional limitations in blaming the gun lobby and political opponents for these deaths.

President Biden also has repeated his claim that certain weapons were banned at the time of the ratification of the Second Amendment.

Previously, Biden declared:

“And I might add: The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon.”

This week, President Biden repeated a false claim that many of us have corrected in the past.

When he was announcing new rules for so-called “ghost guns” and other measures, President Biden renewed his false claim that early Americans could not buy a cannon.

“By the way — it’s going to sound bizarre — I support the Second Amendment. But from the very beginning the Second Amendment didn’t say you could own any gun you want, as big as you want. You couldn’t buy a cannon, when in fact the Second Amendment passed.”

It does sound bizarre because it is factually and legally untrue. I have received calls from media for years about this claim and it does not improve by repetition. Even the Washington Post has declared Biden’s understanding of the Second Amendment to be false.

Yet, this week, President Biden remained undeterred and uninformed: “The Second Amendment is not absolute. When it was passed you couldn’t own a cannon, you couldn’t own certain kinds of weapons. There’s just always been limitations.”

Once again, there were no federal laws barring cannon ownership when the Second Amendment was enacted. Gun laws remained local matters and I do not know of any bans on cannons or other gun types until much later in our history.  Early local laws did control concealed weapons, though concealed cannons were not part of those ordinances.

Indeed, the Constitution itself supports private cannon ownership in the case of privateers.  Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 allows Congress to “grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal.”  That allowed private parties to privateer on the high seas with . . . cannons. (Recently some members of Congress wanted to issues such letters of Marque again to enlist privateers in the fight against Russia).

As with the failure to acknowledge the limitations on the range of legislative options due to Second Amendment protections, President Biden is undermining efforts to reach common ground with this repeated false claim. If we are going to reach what the President calls “commonsense” responses to this massacre, we must start from a common understanding of the constitutional and historical foundations for such reforms.

  1. Consider a multi-pronged approach. A national advisory board could issue some security ideas — how many counties have instituted single points of entry at elementary schools, and limited points of entry at middle schools and high schools along with unobtrusive security that makes sure other points of entry remain locked? At least allow, in principle, that some guns are not protected by the 2nd amendment. Automatic guns have already been banned. But recognized the limits of this. And be prepared for reasonable people to disagree on what constitutes a weapon than can be considered purely an assault weapon in nature. Some people do not appreciate that some weapons are particularly valuable for self-defense because of limited recoil. There are some who wish to ban such weapons.

In addition, I would like to pull rank a little bit here. I have been in the back rooms where legislation is finalized. It is not a pretty sight. Under the best of circumstances, legislation is a hodge-podge of interests and will always have some unintended consequences.

Multiply that by a factor of 10 when you are crafting any type of possession law. Possession language by its very nature means you do not have to consider what the person you are criminalizing has actually done. There doesn’t need to be a victim, and there is no need to show that the citizen has actually done anything to anybody or has any intent to do so. Any number of situations that you never envisioned when writing the legislation can fall under its scope.

Finally, there isn’t a person I am friends with, regardless of party, who isn’t heartbroken by what has occurred. You say to yourself, well of course there isn’t. Is that really such a small irrelevant observation?

    1. The thing is Miller v US has already said the 2nd specifically applies to weapons that have “military utility “.

  2. No one is taking our guns lease of all tyrannical Democrats.

40 billion to Ukraine and you won’t protect the southern border or the schools because you don’t want to!

    “Shall not”

  3. After every mass shooting, the Left screeches: Children have been murdered. How dare you defend the 2nd Amendment!

A disaster is precisely the time to stand tall for rights. After that, it’s too late.

And being in the grip of strong emotions is precisely the wrong time to be enacting legislation — or to “do something.”

  4. Jonathan: The US is now the No. 1 country in the world for mass shootings. And your response? To defend the 2nd Amendment! GOP politicians have reacted to the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Ted Cruz has a common sense solution to prevent future mass shootings at schools. Fewer doors and more guns: “One of the things that everyone agreed is don’t have all these unlocked back doors. Have one door into and out of school ..and have armed police officers at the door”. My neighbor commented: “That makes perfect sense. But what happens if there is a fire in the school and students, teachers and staff are trying to flee the fire through a single door? Now if I am a shooter I case the school and find a single point of entrance and exit. First, I take out any police presence and then sit outside the door and fire on anyone who tries to exit. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel! This Cruz guy is absolutely crazy!” But Cruz had more to say. He accused Democrats calling for gun reform of “empty political posturing”. This comes from a guy who has turned “political posturing” into an art form. Not to be outdone the right-wing extremist GOP Rep. from Arizona, Paul Gosar, said Salvadore Ramos was a “transsexual leftist illegal alien”. How does Gosar know? Because he a supporter of the white nationalist movement that has put out this bizarre theory. GOP politicians in Texas believe Ramos was suffering from some “mental disorder” despite the police authorities saying there was no such evidence in Ramos’ background.

Right-wing media pundits have also weighed in on the shooting–like Fox’s Tucker Carlson. He blames the Covid pandemic lockdowns for recent mass shootings: “Oh, so the lockdowns dramatically increase the incidence of mental illness among young people…Could there be a connection?”. Carlson doesn’t explain how Australia, that had a mass shooting in 1996 and has had very restrictive Covid restrictions, banned all semi-automatic rifles and has not had a similar mass shooting since then. New Zealand also had a mass shooting in 2019. They implemented a gun buy-back program and there hasn’t been a mass shooting since the program was put in place. Minor details not worthy of comment on Fox.

Donald Trump has also reacted to the mass shooting. While other GOP have cancelled Trump plans to address the NRA convention in Texas tomorrow. The maker of the DDM4 V7 rife Ramos used is “Daniel Defense”. They say their product is “a perfect rifle for everybody”. Indeed. DD had a booth at the NRA convention. But they have decided to back out. The optics were obviously terrible. DD issued the rhetorical “thoughts and prayers” after the shooting.

And what is the Supreme Court doing to prevent future mass shootings? The conservative majority is poised to strike down a New York gun safety law and probably expand the right of Americans to carry guns in public. Justices Alito and Kavanaugh are leading the charge to expand the proliferation of guns .Makes perfect sense. What is ironic is that GOP lawmakers in Texas are stripping women’s access to abortion but they have no time to protect children when they are in school. Strange world we live in.

    1. Dennis, unless you offer a solution, you are worse than a troll. you are a verbose, know nothing troll

      1. iowan2, what did you bring to the table, besides a sterling demonstration of your functional illiteracy? Grammar is not your mommy’s mommie, shameless dunce!

      2. iowan2: You say: “Dennis, unless you offer a solution you are worse than a troll. You are a verbose, know nothing troll” The solution is right there in front of you. You apparently didn’t get the memo. BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS–like the AR-15 and the one used by Salvadore Ramos. As mentioned in my previous comment Australia and New Zealand banned these weapons after their mass shootings in 2018 and 2019. And there have been no mass shootings since then. The point is that assault weapons have only one purpose. To kill as many people as possible in a few short minutes. As a teen I did a fair amount of hunting with only a single barrel shotgun and a 22 long rifle. They were perfect for dove, quail, rabbits and the occasional rattlesnake. No self respecting hunter is going to use an AR-15 to shoot a deer. Besides it destroys the meat. I know my great uncle wouldn’t have been caught using such a weapon ( they didn’t exist back then) to shoot a deer. He used a lever action Winchester with a scope. He was a true “sportsman”.

Now I know all the arguments on the other side. The 2nd Amendment. But the SC has already ruled that “reasonable regulations” are permissible. And, of course, there is the old saw that: “Guns don’t kill people–only bad people with guns do”. And, you might say. if assault weapons are banned “bad” people will still find a way to acquire one–off the street or from a private party. True. But should we make it make it so easy for Salvadore Ramos or the shooter in Buffalo to get one? If gun manufacturers were told they can no longer make assault weapons or import them the market would dry up wouldn’t it? I think many people in this country (mostly whites) want an assault rifle to protect themselves form the “hoard” that they perceive as being a “threat”. The white racist who killed all those Black people in Buffalo saw the “threat” because he clearly stated in his manifesto he supports the “great replacement theory”. But the Black shoppers at the Buffalo supermarket were no “threat”. They were there simply to buy groceries.

Ted Cruz has a solution to prevent future mass shootings at schools. Lock all the school doors, except for one, and have more police to protect the children. One problem with Cruz’s solution is that there are not enough police.to protect all the schools. Besides, we now find out that it took almost an hour for the local Uvalde police to respond to the mayhem at the school, Cruz’s proposal is just political posturing because he is not about to cross the NRA that gives him so much campaign money. And that’s why he will address the NRA convention in Texas. He knows which side his bread is buttered on! If you have a sensible solution to the assault weapon problem let’s hear it. Otherwise you are the “know nothing troll”.

    2. Every time I hear someone shed crocodile tears after a tragedy and then push their unconstitutional partisan agenda I and millions of others just go out and buy another weapon. We’ll need them when they finally think they have the backing for something like mandatory “buy back”.

    3. Dennis ; please take your biased unconstitutional screed to an echo chamber of your insanity somewhere else. You are a marxofascist…we get this , we read it.. we know you , probably better than you know yourself. Our gummi puppet potus sent $40 billion more to a corrupt former land of soviet oppression. $40 BILLION. Could that money have not been better spent on mental health and schools ?. Of course , but here you are in full form Anti constitutional mode because it fits your touchy feely politics and ignores facts yet again. I did not nor will not bother to read your full screed…I already know the twisting of reality you indulge in and your left of left POV. You add nothing to this discussion but your political bias.
You really want to say something on this tragedy , do tell us why the fed god and alot of state govt’s have completely dumbed down educational standards , information , into more of an equity & woke machine to produce halfwits with fewer and fewer cognitive skills. But you wont acknowledge this reality as it does not fit your narrative , nor your politics.

      1. “ Our gummi puppet potus sent $40 billion more to a corrupt former land of soviet oppression. $40 BILLION.”

Actually it was congress that sent the money. Both republicans democrats agreed to send $40 billion. Congress controls the money. Not Biden.

        Phergus is a bit confused.

    4. Yes, times of national tragedy are the most important times to not allow the rush of grief, outrage, and emotion to run roughshod over the people and their rights.

    5. “New Zealand also had a mass shooting in 2019.”

New Zealand population ~4.9 million pop/sq mi 49.5
United States population ~230 million pop/sq mi 87.4

Where do most of the gun deaths occur in the US? In Democrat cities. 800 slain in Chicago in 2021.

Sometimes it benefits arguments to look at the numbers, demographics, and the actual text in the laws one complains about.

      SM

  5. Anyone watch the press conference where Biden repeated his false claim?
He also called the ATF, “the Alcoball, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency,”
And then tried to use their acronym, ATF, but instead said, AFT, which is the American Federation of Teachers.

    What a train wreck.

    1. Would it make you feel better if Biden said that nuking a hurricane is a good idea. And the list of really stupid things Trump said is just to long to list.

        1. RE: “””Fish explain……………”https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2017/9/8/16264376/trump-nuke-hurricane-weather-modification-nuclear

        2. People way overestimate the power of a nuclear weapon. Yes they can level a city but they are a 4th of July firecracker compared to the energy in a hurricane.

          1. they are a 4th of July firecracker compared to the energy in a hurricane.
So that whole notion of a single butterfly in the amazon effecting climate is another leftist fairytale.

            1. I’m not well enough versed in Chaos Theory to form a valid opinion one way or another.

      1. FishWings,
As I have stated before, I did not vote for Trump. For that matter, I donated to the Tulsi Gabbard campaign, twice. Was going a third time, but then she dropped out. I was bummed. I am currently on her mailing list.
Also, Trump is not the president now. Biden is. He is the one leading this country.
Come 2024, whomever is the GOP candidate, I will likely vote for them.
As voting for this woke Dem insanity, is just that. Insanity.
And I would like to thank you, and others who continue to rant and rave about Trump. You only confirm my point of view on the situation.
        Again, thank you.

      2. Fishwings is both ignorant of what Trump said and what he was talking about. Scientifically Trump’s question was good. He didn’t want to use a nuclear weapon.

      3. FishWings is misinformed because “fact checkers” who checked Trump were lying. And there are no “fact checkers” checking Biden’s lies.

  6. Yes Joe, it is. The 2nd Amendment means the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority to be involved with the regulation or control of guns or weapons of any kind whatsoever.

        1. Perhaps not. Constitutional protections apply to all citizens regardless of in which state they live. Allowing states to ‘regulate’ those protections away is contradictory at best and should continue to be challenged.

          1. Really it depends on whether or not you think the Bill of Rights are incorporated at the state level. I happen to think they are.

            1. Agreed..in theory yes, they are. Just pointing out there are no exceptions listed in the ‘protections’ the US Constitution affords to everyone and that I’m not referring to specific laws themselves. Individual states and politicians are claiming otherwise, though, like Brandon’s statements about cannon ownership by citizens, and California’s ban on magazine capacity of 11 rounds or more, being against the 2nd’s principle and purpose. The Founders did not place limits on “arms” ownership or their use on anyone, including citizens, as they knew equal or superior firepower in the hands of citizens is the only way to defend against a government that wishes to harm its people. Only after it’s ratification did limits on the 2nd become the ‘exceptions’ to the same Amendment. If the Founders meant “except for cannons, ships, ‘assault rifles'”, or anything other standing military armament, they would have put it in the 2nd. They didn’t. On Purpose. Limits/exceptions by any state or court after the fact, still make them unconstitutional compared to originalist’s intent. It’s why there are no limits on how someone communicates ‘protected’, free speech; pen and quill aren’t the only permissible way one can ‘speak’.

I’m NOT saying otherwise law-abiding people SHOULD own, maintain, and use a fleet of cannon, aircraft, ships, etc., only that states and courts lack the constitutional authority to redefine, amend, and/or override US Constitutional protections with ‘laws’ and fiat opinions/decisions that are contrary to it. Amending the Constitution is the only legal, authoritative way to add exceptions to any of the original protections it demands be honored, defended and kept by government. That our lax in demanding our political class honor those protections and our collective refusal to hold them accountable when they aren’t, is on us, but that doesn’t make the rights and protections guaranteed by the Constitution irrelevant or redefinable by the passage of time, technology, or changing cultural ‘norms’ as Leftists assert and profess.

              1. Exactly. You can’t redefine a word in the English Language to suit a Law or Decision to your liking. For the most part cannons, M1A2 Abrams tanks, and even a nuclear weapons development program are outside the financial reach of most of us with nukes beyond the reach of even the Elon Musk’s of the world, so I’m not very worried about that. Nevertheless they have military utility and are thusly as protected by the 2nd as your run of the mill AR or AK. Grandpa’s old duck gun? Probably not so much. I’m not sure how much call there is in the Armed Forces for 50 year old Sears Catalog firearms.

                1. “Like”. — I don’t have a WordPress account, at least not one that I know about. 🙂

            1. In this context, the “…right of the People to keep and bear arms.” Apologies if that wasn’t clear.

  7. I had weapons since I was 14 years of age for hunting as well as my high school friends. We were required to take a hunter safety course before we were able to obtain a hunting license because of our age. During hunting season we would meet have a breakfast and go pheasant hunting. In all those years non of us or kids we knew took our weapons outside our homes to brandish them in any way. We respected and feared any criminal contact with police, we even knew some by their first names and would often chat with them.

What I don’t understand is why the youth of today are so bold that they will take a weapon on the street’s like it was the OK Coral? It seems they don’t fear the consequences but of course there’s not many consequences today. The Democrats have demonized police so we can’t blame the police so where’s the problem?

My generation had easy access to weapons but had no malintent while this generation isn’t adult enough to own a BB gun. Could it be the computer games and/or social media because it’s not the gun walking into buildings firing off rounds.

    1. Agreed Margot. I grew up in a state that now pretty much is a foreign land to honesty and civil discourse and the constitution . Anyhow I had a father whom was a big time hunter. My uncle , pretty much the whole extended family and friends of my father/family. Most of them were veterans of wars , many had been there and done that so to speak. They all understood and cherished the 2nd Amendment as they had been in places not so fortunate as Americans.
From an early age I collected trophies these veterans brought home from their wars/service. This was once a common thing in America, and stories and heirlooms often passed hands to sons , daughters ..family.
What has changed in America is the near fatal attacks on the nuclear family , the attacks on morality to include religion(s). A bigger more oppressive cancerous govt that “can do no wrong”. We are having our freedoms curtailed by a death of a thousand cuts from insane politicos of the left bent in America. Conjuring rights out of thin air and limiting or destroying/neutering bonafide constitutional rights that do not fit their agenda and or offend their ‘feelings’. This is all a bigger quest of control . Look what federal intervention in education has done to American schools….. it’s absolutely dumbed down the curriculum to create equal outcomes of dumber and dumber students. Institutions of “higher knowledge” are indoctrinating and creating activists in place of learned critical thinkers . Common sense is frowned upon , even discouraged in these institutions. It is all now group think and knee jerk revolution flavor of the day garbage.
It is no small coincidence we see SCOTUS judge nominees whom can not define what a woman is when they themselves are a woman…. imagine that craziness and it’s here in real time real life…. it’s a politicized new reality….. George Orwell here we are.

      1. RE: “”It is no small coincidence we see SCOTUS judge nominees whom can not define what a woman is…….” Rather “will not’. Exercising Fifth Amendment rights to protection against self-incrimination and the possibility of protests in front of her home by the madding crowd. . High information voters will recognize this.

      2. The problem isn’t a lack of religion, it’s that they have simply replaced one religion with the religion of government and the US Capital is their St. Peter’s Cathedral and the White House their Sistine Chapel.

    2. non of us or kids we knew took our weapons outside our homes to brandish them in any way. We respected and feared any criminal contact with police,
YMMV. But what ever the cops might do, paled in comarrison to the on going hell, my dad would rain down on me.
Yes almost all of my friend had guns. But we all also carried a pocket knife to school everyday. Never in 13 years of school was a knife brandished, (shown off in secret, yes)

      1. Iowan2-No blades here but my question stands where’s the problem with this generation?

        1. I agree. This is a culture issue.

Communities that thrive, are centered on a complete family, Church, community…….>>>>>>>__________———–way over here, schools

That has been replaced with Federal,govtschools.welefare………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….intact family

        2. Margot asks:

“Where’s the problem with this generation?”

“Every old man complains of the growing depravity of the world, of the petulance and insolence of the rising generation. He recounts the decency and regularity of former times, and celebrates the discipline and sobriety of the age in which his youth was passed; a happy age which is now no more to be expected, since confusion has broken in upon the world, and thrown down all the boundaries of civility and reverence.”

          Johnson: Rambler #50 (September 8, 1750)

          Does that answer your question?

          1. There are also very real differences between generations.

            Some good, some bad.

Overall atleast until recently this moment has been the best moment in history – both in the US and the world.

But that is NOT the best in every way.

It is self evident that we have seen a destruction of family values and religion – some portions of that may even be good – but all are not.

We KNOW that our younger generations are the most anxious and depressed ever
We also know that while Violence had been declining steadily through the start of Covid – it has spiked and continues to rise since then.

It is possible that those who claim to know the causes for this are wrong. But there are causes, and on net we are now losing ground to the past.

      2. My dad insisted that I didn’t leave the house without a Swiss Army Knife and a full lighter. He always said “You never know when you might need one”

    3. Margot Ballhere,
Some have speculated it is the lack of a father figure in a persons life.
Others, the demise of the nuclear family.
Some say it is the techno gadget that has replaced parenting, as even parents have their heads burried in a screen.
And then there is the question of mental health of America in general. Things that just a few years ago would of been called crazy or insane are now accepted as . . . normal.

  8. RE:”President Biden Repeats False Claim about the Second Amendment” This kind of rhetoric can only come forth from individuals who hold in total contempt, the intellectual capacity and the knowledge base of the electorate. It has long been my personal conviction that what accounts for this that such a candidate could never respect a constituency which would actually vote them into high office. For reasons such as this, Florida has revamped its Civics curriculum for schools.https://www.fldoe.org/civicliteracy/

  9. Indeed, the Constitution itself supports private cannon ownership in the case of privateers. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 allows Congress to “grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal.”

In fact, beyond Privateers, many merchant ships carried some cannon as protection from privateers, or pirates

    1. They also intentionally fail to acknowledge that passing more laws, of any kind, affect – and are only intended to affect – the already law-abiding. It’s why they must exempt themselves from the laws they pass…to keep their own criminal activities ‘legal’.

  10. President Biden figures two things: 1), His ideologically aligned audience is likely to just parrot him, and 2), Perhaps a lie told often enough will become the accepted story.

    1. This is a common tactic of the ideologically flawed marxist left in America. Fascism/marxism are the same mental disorder. The same seeds that allow for tyrants and subjugation of people throughout history. These parroting techniques and telling lies often and loud are age old. Sort stick with what works on sheeple kind of thing.
In Orwell’s very relevant classic book 1984 the main character worked at a ministry that rearranged , deleted and or created out of whole cloth history to suit it’s current objectives for desired results. We see this almost every day from the left , from the marxofascists that deem themselves social warrior gods of the “d” party and all it’s tentacles.

  11. It used to be said, if you don’t read the news, you are uninformed. Today, if you DO read the news, you are misinformed. If you listen to this president, you are disinformed. If you listen to anyone in this president’s cabinet, you are intentionally misinformed. And they have created a Disinformation Board to manage all the disinformation they see fit to print.

Where can I buy a cannon?

    1. Q: Where can I buy cannon?

A: First you must meet certain criteria. Be age 18, but not old enough to buy booze or cigarettes. Then you can buy a rock launcher, javelin missile or stinger missile system on the dark web…..Happy hunting.

  12. You say frequently that you are apolitical. Yet you!cannot deny that most of the positive comments submitted by readers of your blog come from the right wing of the Republican right wing. Almost none of these comments come from Democrats, either Progressive Democrats or Blue Dog Democrats. You may not choose sides, but one side has chosen you as their avatar. The other side rejects you completely. I wonder why that is.

    1. Neil if I may , when Turley is spot on correct – and in this example he is absolutely correct , it’s people like you that see truth and any agreement with such truths through a political lens. The “other side” rejects America , our founding , our constitution. Hence why the “left” always wants to change and sully the constitution. Why people of that ilk rely on lawyer/liars and senile politician aka joe biden to use EO’s and install mental midgets in our supreme court to satisfy their sociopolitical aims.
If that hurts you feelings you must than accept that the facts don’t give a darn about YOUR feelings.

    2. So again: what has Turley got to do with the readers of his blog?
And then: if there is a huge audience from the right to this professors, who only looks at facts, what would that say for the left?

    3. It’s because being a strict narrow absolutist on the Constitution in today’s political climate generally puts you on the Right or Right leaning libertarian side.

    4. You say frequently that you are apolitical. Yet you!cannot deny ……

You must be new here. This has been explained using small words and simple concepts.

Professor Turley, is a Constitutional law scholar. His writings concentratedon the intersection of current news and the Constitution. Such as this post. The President of the United States makes a declarative statement that is demonstrably false. The statement is a direct assault on the Constitution. A subject our host has an unchallenged grasp of the facts and history.

That lots of commenters here agree with the Prof, is not quiet accurate. The majority of comets agree with the Constitution.
Professor Turely does not support conservatives, he is a vocal unflinching defending of our Nations foundational documents.

It is not curious that Conservatives share the same same view.

The larger question Neil, is do you share the same adherence to Constitutional tenets? If not, why Not?

    5. RE:.””Yet you cannot deny that most of the positive comments submitted by readers of your blog come from the right wing of the Republican right wing……….””” Presently company excluded. I declare no political affiliation. Given and take based upon my views of the issue. However I might be accused of being persuaded by the philosophy of a truth-seeker of popular culture…one Sergeant Joe Friday..Perhaps Anonymous is too. Though “A’ and I generally disagree on what the facts are. His being derived from reliable sources, whilst mine are fair and balanced.

    6. “The other side rejects you completely. I wonder why that is.”

Neil, perhaps the ‘rejectionists’ don’t respect the Constitution. You sound respectful and sincere. Why don’t you provide your constitutional arguments. If you leave out dogma, ‘feelings’, and virtue signaling, you shouldn’t have a problem with your views on this blog.

  13. Ammendment 00 is an absolute right. That’s the abortion amendment. None of the other 10 are absolute

  14. The hypocrisy is mind boggling. Steve Kerr has a public temper tantrum every time a mass murder takes place that fits his liberal narrative. But there are shootings and murders in big cities every day and he is silent. The media is complicit. They should has him: “Hey Steve, 31 people were gunned down last weekend in Chicago. Why didn’t you comment about it?”

  15. Of course there is not one mainstream reporter who would question the veracity of anything the Plotted Plant President says.
They’re too busy counting up the 30,000 lies from Trump. I think they’re up to 13 or 14 now.

  16. Since when does anyone with a functioning brain stem believe ANYTHING that this sack of barely connecting organic chemical juice utters.

  17. Mr. Turley, I enjoy your columns and learn from them, but I respectfully ask that you
