“An Absolute, Shameless, and Soulless Lie”: Republican Lashes Out at Liz Cheney for Pardon Accusation

There is an interesting initial battle brewing over an accusation made by Rep. Liz Cheney during the first public hearing of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 riot. Cheney called out Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Scott Perry by name as seeking a pardon from former President Trump for his involvement in post election challenges. However, Perry has denounced the accusation, stating on Twitter that “[t]he notion that I ever sought a Presidential pardon for myself or other Members of Congress is an absolute, shameless, and soulless lie.”

During her opening statement, Cheney, the vice chair of the select committee, said Perry worked to get Justice Department lawyer Jeff Clark appointed as attorney general in the hope that he would send a letter to Georgia and other states that the Justice Department had “identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the election.”

It was not illegal to push for the appointment of a more favorable attorney general though I believe such a letter would have been fundamentally wrong. I have long defended the record of Bill Barr and the integrity that he showed in resisting such demands. Other justice officials appeared ready to resign like Barr rather than yield to such a demand.

The suggestion is that Perry not only knew that he could be criminally charged for his actions after the election but sought the protection of Trump. This allegation does not seem a matter of interpretation. It is either true or not. Either Cheney or Perry are lying. Cheney promised to put forward evidence to prove the allegation: “As you will see, Rep. Perry contacted the White House in the weeks after Jan. 6 to seek a presidential pardon.  Multiple other Republican congressmen also sought presidential pardons for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election.”

  1. “Put the heroic and iconic Liz Cheney on the TV more to talk about a 3-hour riot that happened 18 months ago — which resulted in the deaths of 4 Trump supporters and nobody else — and everyone will forget about the misery [Biden and his evil Democrat policies are] causing in their lives.”

  2. I’m now convinced that Turley is bucking to be a host on Fox. How else to describe the depravity of this comment: “The suggestion is clearly that Perry believed that he could be charged with a crime but it could also reflect distrust in the incoming Administration in pursuing political opponents. In the end, however, the primary defense to defamation is truth.” So, according to Turley, even if Perry did seek a pardon, it’s not because he knew committed crimes. It’s BIDEN’S FAULT because the DOJ would do his bidding and go after Perry as a political opponent. To even suggest this is outrageous. The administration that used the DOJ for political purposes was Trump’s not Biden’s. Biden has gone to great lengths to show the American people that the DOJ will NOT be used as a political tool, something Turley knows damn good and well. Turley also knows that Trump used the DOJ as his personal law firm. Barr got directly involved in poltical matters to try to defend Trump, one of the most notorious being his deceitful spin on the results of the Mueller investigation. Barr tried to get a jump on the public release of the report by misrepresenting the findings as exonerating the pig, and that’s as political as it gets. Barr also marched with Trump, as did Gen. Milley, to the Episcopal church after proesters were tear gassed to clear the way because media made fun of Trump for hiding in a bunker. It was highly inappropriate for either of them to have been involved in this little political theater, and Gen. Milley has apologized. But, Turley has to say something bad about the first of the Jan 6th hearings which objectively laid out the fact that Trump knew he lost but pursued the Big Lie anyway. They also showed that the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were planning to invade the Capitol hours before the fat one even spoke. They showed that the invasion was all planned in advance, and all based on Trump’s promotion of the Big Lie. But, Fox calls the shots, so Turley posted this little piece of excrement. All part of the plan to offset the facts to be presented by the Jan 6th committee.

    1. Tell us when anyone in charge of security for the Capitol on that day is put under oath to testify before the sham committee, k?

  3. Liz Cheney is a heroine!
    No? How about a shero?
    Sexist? Then she’s a herx!

Whichever, a true conservative, no like the shambolistic crowd she used to hang out with.

  4. Sounds like someone should’ve actually showed up to the Committee to be interviewed. Perry gets pancaked on this. Probably ends up being fed to the Justice Dept. and serves time.

  5. A lie, shameless, soulless, a handmade tale that time will reveal if it can be exploited as a politically congruent (“=”) construct.

    1. Alleged rabid diversitists, a left-wing phenomenon. There were no lions, lionesses, or their [unPlanned] cubs playing in gay abandon. Why a transgender spectrum progression? A probable Whitmer/Michigan/Planned Parent/hood, Jan 6, etc. event.

    1. Jeff,

      As usual, you are wrong.

“”I do think there are legitimate areas of inquiry, but I also agree with the congresswoman that this isn’t set up as an optimal mechanism for getting at the truth, and there is obviously a big political overlay,” Barr told host Neil Cavuto, making reference to his previous guest, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). The GOP lawmaker had argued that while she condemned the attempted insurrection, she believed **the select committee was focused on political gains rather than fact-finding**.”

      1. Ray,

Just like a Trumpist, you keep lying. That’s the trouble with Trumpists- it’s one after another. You cut off Barr’s complete statement on the Cavuto show.

Who do you think you are fooling? You don’t know me well enough if you think you can get away with it.

NeverTrumpers will never move on. We will continue to call out your lie that the election was stolen. We will never let it rest until we hear you say it- “Yes, it was all a Big Lie.”

    1. Jeff How does this read it and weep establish any ties by DT to Russia to win the 2016 election? Oh the 2016 election was stolen but 2020was just fine. Big deretcho still coming. Just be patient.

      1. The report establishes Manafort’s collusion with an ostensible FSB agent. What is “deretcho”?

        1. Derecho ( drop the t sp) A big wind of disclosures will be coming approx Aug through end of Oct. Manafort activities doesn’t establish DT with any Russia collusion particularily for the 2016 elections. Hillary and DNC had the Russian collusions on going for 2016 election. It was an ostensible dividend (of lies) for the Dem Congress to move on with impeachment.

          1. Lighteredknot,

I agree that this report does not apply to Trump. Never said it did. I am simply refuting the Trumpist lie- “No collusion.”

            You say:

“Hillary and DNC had the Russian collusions on going for 2016 election. It was an ostensible dividend (of lies) for the Dem Congress to move on with impeachment.”

I will simply dismiss your Hilary allegation as a “hoax” if I may borrow a tactic from the Trumpist playbook.

        2. Jeff: Drip by Drip will soon become big derecho. This pungent stench will not go away.

Not only did Barack Obama know about the Russia collusion hoax, but evidence has come out that may indicate that he was behind it all the time. In October 2016, just weeks before the election, Obama approved a statement that accused Russia of stealing the emails from the DNC, a fact that has been largely debunked. In fact, there is no proof whatsoever that the DNC servers were ever hacked at all, according to CrowdStrike, the company hired by the DNC to examine their servers.

  6. With one difference: Lincoln is revered by the majority of Americans whereas Fox News is reviled.

      1. I was talking about ratings. BTW, you want to play a round? What’s your handicap?

    1. Fox New is reviled by you Dems because it points out the hypocrite biases by the ABcs alphabet channels and Dems. You need to get over that AC inversion Jeff.

      1. We may see Fox News change when old man Murdoch dies. Not to worry, you Trumpists will still have Newsmax, OAN and Alex Jones.

        1. Jefff Baring any big health issues DT will win in 2024 if not he then Se Santis and it might just be DeSantis anyway. That will really chap Dems arses. Record inflation will cleanse the Congress 2022 and then the POTUS in 2024. You may not tend personnally you are not a Dem Socialists, but the Dems elected are and you vote those sycophants in. Mark it on the wall big Dem changes coming Aug through Oct 2022.

          1. Lighteredknot.

I could not care less. Nothing Trumpists can do legislatively will affect my life in Marin County. Trumpists will still be goddamn liars, and we NeverTrumpers will never let you forget it. Until Trump shuts down the mainstream press and forcibly silences his critics, he will never hear the end of his being called a “liar.”

Indeed, I would welcome Trump being elected again so that the Republicans’ war on the truth comes to a head. Let’s see if his party will continue to lie for him all through his next term. Let’s see whether he will survive all the pending civil and criminal investigations currently underway.

    2. Reviled? Its ratings dwarf every other cable news channel? Revile me like that anytime!

  7. Ralph says:

“NeverTrumpers … are blinded by that hatred.”

You forget that Turley is a NeverTrumper.

    1. Never voted for Trump

    2. Never has had a complimentary word to say about Trump’s character after dissing him as a “carnival snake charmer”

    3. Never believed the Big Lie

    4. Never believed that Pence had the Constitutional authority to refuse the Electors

    5. Believed Trump’s 1/6 speech was “reckless” and deserving of Congressional censure

    6. Never recommended that his readers go see “2000 Mules”

If these don’t not make Turley a NeverTrumper, what does?

    1. 7. Never accused the jury of nullification in the Sussmann acquittal

      8. Never called the Mueller investigation a “Witch-hunt”

      I’ll think of some more….

    2. “You forget that Turley is a NeverTrumper.”

We listen on and on and on and on to a guy who doesn’t even know what a Never Trumper is.

  8. George, In early 1862 Lincoln took a step back from the suspension of habeas corpus controversy. On February 14, he ordered all political prisoners released, with some exceptions (such as the aforementioned newspaper editor) and offered them amnesty for past treason or disloyalty, so long as they did not aid the Confederacy. The difference between Lincoln and the leaders of Marxist nations is that habeas corpses is never considered in the first place. If your comparison of Lincoln to Marxist is correct than it does not follow that Lincoln would have reinstated habeas corpus at all. At the time Lincoln surely had the power to keep the restriction in place but he voluntarily gave up his power for the good of the nation. If you can name a Marxist nation wherein it’s leader relinquished his power I would be interested in your findings. Your fixation with Lincoln reminds me of JeffSilberman’s fixation with Fox News.

    1. Prior to Xi Jinping, there were several Chinese leaders who relinquished power. The CCP of course remained in control.

    2. Are you out of your ——- mind? Lincoln shredded the Constitution. Secession was constitutional; war against a sovereign foreign nation was unconstitutional. At that point, Lincoln was a high criminal and must have been impeached and convicted. Review Chief Justice Taney’s actions. More importantly, Lincoln subscribed to the madness (i.e. communism) of Marx. Lincoln was literally, and by definition, hell bent for leather to eliminate classes from society, adhering to the collectivist ideology’s primary and foremost precept. A good American, who understood the moment and import of the most consequential, significant and auspicious blueprint for the conduct of the affairs of man in human history, the U.S. Constitution, would have recognized the assault on freedom presented by communism and rejected it completely and out of hand.

Unfortunately, those who fervently desire governmental care, “womb to the tomb,” “oh, Hillary, we’re saaaaaved,” are blind to the essential wealth-creating and spirit-freeing character of freedom and free enterprise, to the providence of freedom and self-reliance, no, not a little bit free, such as the “fake” freedom of the dumbocrap party, but virtually totally and maximally free, with governmental participation severely constrained to security and infrastructure, as the Constitution prescribes and provides. Lincoln used Karl Marx’s pejorative, “capitalist,” and suggested that free Americans who engage in productive free enterprise collude to defraud, and are compelled by the physics of the universe to “fleece” people.

Lincoln was the anti-American, anti-constitutional, direct and mortal enemy of America and everything American, including freedom.

Certainly, slavery must have been ended – Washington freed his slave in his will – and the long-suffering, once-abducted Africans must have been compassionately repatriated for their own sense of nationhood and their own self-esteem.

      To wit,

“These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert, to fleece the people.”

      – Abraham Lincoln, from his first speech as an Illinois state legislator, 1837
      __________________________________________________________

“Everyone now is more or less a Socialist.”

      – Charles Dana, managing editor of the New York Tribune, and Lincoln’s assistant secretary of war, 1848
      __________________________________________________________________________________

“The goal of Socialism is Communism.”

      – Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

  9. Like Turley stated…”It was not illegal to push for the appointment of a more favorable attorney general….” The letter sent to Perry by the committee did not suggest that Perry did anything illegal so what “illegal activity” are you referring? Trump could have replaced Rosen with Clark as the acting Attorney General if he wanted, anytime, no permission needed. Just more bombastic BS from Svelez the long time Turley troll.

  10. “ During her opening statement, Cheney, the vice chair of the select committee, said Perry worked to get Justice Department lawyer Jeff Clark appointed as attorney general in the hope that he would send a letter to Georgia and other states that the Justice Department had “identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the election.”

What Turley naively leaves out is the fact that Barr resigned because he knew Trump’s BS claims of voter fraud were a baseless scheme to overturn the election. Perry was pushing to appoint a rubber stamping lackey as AG so their plan would work. Obviously when it collapsed Perry sought a pardon to protect himself from the inevitable investigation into his illegal activity. This is why his reaction is so telling. He knows he’s in trouble.

    1. Voter fraud began when the anti-American ally of Karl Marx, Abraham Lincoln, failed to compassionately repatriate freed slaves, who could not become citizens per contemporary immigration law, ultimately, leading to their antithetical and unconstitutional suffrage. It has been going full steam ever since. As the Supreme Court acted retroactively by 50 years on abortion, the Supreme Court must act retroactively by 150 years on illegal immigration to correct that gross and egregious violation of fundamental and statutory law. Incidentally, there are 12,000 new communist (liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, RINO) latin-oh voters heading to America through Mexico as we speak.

    2. Svelaz,

The problem for the left is that nothing that you have described is illegal.
