Grassley: Whistleblowers Report That DOJ Downplayed Hunter Biden Evidence in 2020

My recent column explored whether time is running out for Hunter Biden. The answer may be “no” if Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is right about what whistleblowers are telling him about the investigation.  CBS is reporting that “highly credible” whistleblowers informed him that officials within the FBI and the Justice Department are downplaying or dismissing negative evidence on Hunter Biden. Given the documented bias of the FBI and DOJ during the Russian collusion investigation, such allegations must be considered seriously given the baffling refusal of Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a Special Counsel.

Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland that

“The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation. The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter.”

What was particularly interesting were the dates referenced in the letter.  It indicated that the Justice Department had evidence on the alleged criminal conduct in 2020 before the election, but that a named supervisor allegedly spiked the investigation:

“First, it’s been alleged that the FBI developed information in 2020 about Hunter Biden’s criminal financial and related activity. It is further alleged that in August 2020, FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten opened an assessment which was used by an FBI Headquarters (“FBI HQ”) team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease.”

During this period, 51 intelligence experts wrote a letter dismissing the laptop as likely “Russian disinformation.” The media echoed that claim to dismiss the allegations. According to Grassley, not only did the Justice Department have compelling evidence to justify an investigation but showed the same biased analysis flagged by the prior Russian collusion investigations.

Indeed, if the alleged whistleblower accounts are true, the Hunter Biden matter showed the same “all-hands-on-deck” profile as government, political, and media allies presented a unified front on the investigation.

Previously, Sen. Grassley accused Timothy Thibault, the senior FBI agent at the bureau’s Washington Field Office, of possibly violating “[f]ederal laws, regulations and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines” in response to Hunter Biden evidence of wrongdoing.

With a possible Republican takeover of one or both houses of Congress, these questions could be pursued after November. It will then be interesting if the Justice Department will show the same commitment to contempt prosecutions if GOP subpoenas are disregarded by targeted individuals.

  1. There is no justice when activists infest government 3 letter agencies.

It is difficult to find that decisions were not to be made by free individuals, in stark contrast to oppressive and tyrannical governments.

The solution is always in the private sector.

Americans might take up church and education might become unwoke, end the communist propaganda and indoctrination, and supportive of ambition, competition, greed, achievement and American exceptionalism.

  3. Grassley has a lot of diverting to do, didn’t Grassley try to take the place of Pence on January 6th?

    1. I think Grasseey is the President of the Senate. But he is smart enough to know the enumerated power to count the votes cannot be delegated.

    2. Grassley is President of the Senate. But he knows the enumerated power to count RC votes, can’t be delegated

          1. Correct
The Senate elects a Senate Pro Tempore. to hold the the position in the absence of the Vice President. That was my point. I doubt Grassley would have tried to take the place of the absent Pence. 1. Because the Dems held the Senate, and 2. because the enumerated power to count the EC votes cannot be delegated.

  4. The wife of the Pulse Nightclub shooter was acquitted in part because the jurors didn’t believe the FBI.

Ditto for the FBI led assasination of the the Michigan Governor. 1/2 the agents were far more criminal than the ones the FBI had to bribe to keep.

  5. For the sake of the nation and all Americans who want to trust their government maybe all at the DOJ should re-read this?

This can be found on the DOJ webpage:

Thomas Jefferson wrote, “The most sacred of the duties of government [is] to do equal and impartial justice to all its citizens.” This sacred duty remains the guiding principle for the women and men of the U.S. Department of Justice.

WHERE IS BILL “MR. DEEP DEEP STATE” BARR’S CONSTANT RETAINER, JOHN DUDHAM, WHEN YOU NEED HIM?

  9. Jonathan: There are so many “ifs” in your column it’s hard to know where to begin. But what’s certain is that “if” the GOP takes back control of the House there will be endless investigations–starting with Hunter Biden. Your column is once again an attempt to put winds in the conspiracy theory about the Bidens. Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani and others in the Trump orbit tried to implicate Hunter and Joe Biden in a “corrupt” scandal in Ukraine and in China. Nothing stuck but you and the right-wing media continued the assault. Now you quote Sen. Grassely’s letter and say “if Sen. Grassely is right about whistleblowers are telling him” then the FBI and the DOJ are engaged in a huge coverup to protect Hunter Biden. Another big “if”. Grassley’s letter is full “allegations” but short on evidence. Joseph Goebbels perfected the art of repeating a lie over and over again hoping people would come to believe it. Your column and the letter from Grassely come close to that. Accusations, allegations and conspiracy theories but very little or nothing in the way of provable facts. This is why you hope and pray the GOP will take over in November so a “real” investigation can commence. And “if” that happens McCarthy (if he survives) will appoint Jim Jordan to lead a special select House committee to investigate the “Hunter Biden Scandal”. And we know what that portends: “Sturm und drang”–but little in the way of evidence that could be referred to the DOJ for prosecution.

    1. No surprise. Just an understanding. Leave Hunter alone & you have Joe’s promise to not press for Trump to be charged.

      1. Leave Hunter alone & you have Joe’s promise to not press for Trump to be charged.

Now that sounds strangely familiar. Old Quid Pro Joe strikes again!

uh I remember going over convincing our team our others to convincing us that we should be providing for loan guarantees and I went over I guess the 12th 13th time to Kiev and and I was going supposed to announce that there was another billion dollar loan guarantee and I had gotten a commitment from poroshenko and from yachts and hook that they would take action against the state prosecutor and they didn’t so they said they had it they were walking out to Prescott said no I said I’m not gonna or we’re not going to give you the billion dollars they said you have no authority you’re not the president the president said I said call him I said I’m telling you’re not getting a billion dollars I said you’re not getting a billion I’m gonna be leaving here I think it was about six hours I looked I said believe in six hours if the prosecutors not fired you’re not getting the money Oh son of a got fired and they put in place someone who was solid.

      2. President Biden pressing to have have Trump charged.
First we have no crime identified

But past that, it nice the left is done with the silly lie, about the White House having a wall between the a DoJ

  10. This is just another example of life here in Doublestandardstan (TM). The FBI is so in bed with the Democrats that it is making law enforcement a joke. The same people, Svelaz, Jeffsillberman, ATS and Natachta, who loved Alexander Vindman, an obviously odd individual, will ignore this whistleblower simply for political expediency.

Hey Vindman, as you love Ukraine so much I have to wonder if you are happy that you got Biden elected and your favorite country invaded and ruined. This is a classic example of the law of unintended consequences. Of course this was foreseeable since Russia invaded when Biden was VP and did not invade when Trump was in office.

  11. ….and this revelation will get us where??? Grassley needs to find the Republican equivalent of Adam Schiff to go forward with it. Just the way the Democrats moved on Trump’s Ukraine telephone conversation. Otherwise it remains just another ‘tempest in a teapot’, like the FISA court abuses and all the damage that did. No ‘Queen of Hearts’ lopping heads off for those offenses.

  12. The wife of the Pulse Nightclub shooter was acquitted in part because the jurors didn’t believe the FBI.

I think we may see more of that as people become aware of how corrupt and dishonest the bureau in the Richard Jewell building has become.

Apparently they have found a use for the old Gestapo and Stasi and KGB training manuals.

As for Hunter…nothing to see here…move along.

You didn’t really expect them to do anything did you? After all, Hunter never did speak up at a school board meeting.

    1. By the way, I expect the Bureau to move in and claim the credit after others have done the work and the story becomes impossible to hide anymore.

  13. Unless Darren’s computer is synchronized with my own, ATS is lying because some of the deletions occur as soon as Anonymous the Stupid posts them to the net. I have seen that when I post, and he immediately responds. I think posts are both automatically and manually deleted.

ATS’s comments about Darren are nasty for no reason at all. Whatever irks Anonymous the Stupid was caused by Anonymous the Stupid and no one else..
    ======
Self-deleted: “We know what time Darren goes on the clock by what time he begins censoring my posts. Don’t let him pad hours on you, Turley!”

  14. There is no longer a logistics rationale for having all the major and many minor departments and agencies of the federal government to be located in and near the District of Columbia. Back before computers, before the internet, it was understandable. Today, no longer so. And those who’ve suggested dispersing the physical location of the FBI to Little Rock, and other departments to Omaha, just as examples, are making a substantial point. It won’t eliminate collusion among government officials, but it will make it harder to do without being caught. More importantly, it will send a message to us voters who have become extremely skeptical of the goings-on inside the Beltway, and sick and tired of paying for it with our tax dollars.

    1. Not sure I can agree with this. Dispersing these agencies throughout the US will actually make it harder to root out collusion among government officials because they aren’t concentrated. Twenty carpenter ant nests scattered throughout the foundation instead of one ugly nest. And, it will spread the corruption throughout the country more than it already is. What sort of message would be sent to us voters?

  15. Those 51 ‘Intelligence Professionals’ who signed a statement in October of 2020 that the Laptop was likely Russian disinformation should be put under enhanced interrogation to elicit the ‘strength’ of their belief in what they were putting out there for public consumption —– and it might not be a bad idea to reveal to the public where those 51 ‘professionals’ are today, how they got there since October of 2020, and if they still believe the laptop was Russian Disinformation in light of all the disclosures since the November, 2020 Presidential Election results were established and Joe was inaugurated.

We know who the 51 are — let’s track them down.

  16. Knowing what we now know, the FBI likely knew about Hunter’s activities long before they got possession of the laptop and certainly well before the 2016 election. The genesis of the Steele dossier could reasonably have been rooted in the real world escapades of Hunter Biden.

But it was not just the compromising videos of Hunter of concern, but the financial information likely on that laptop that could implicate his father in the pay-to-play scandal. If that information were in the hands of “the Russians,” as Hunter believed, the national security risk was huge and demanded the intelligence community conduct a defensive briefing of Joe Biden.

Instead, it appears from the whistleblowers’ comments that a non-investigation took place, with legitimate sources and evidence falsely categorized as disinformation, and then rather than provide Biden a defensive briefing, the senators received one.
    https://thefederalist.com/2022/07/26/fbi-jeopardized-national-security-by-calling-verified-hunter-biden-evidence-disinformation-whistleblowers-say/

Compare and contrast what we know of Hunter Biden and Donald Trump and how the FBI has handled both:
    – Steele dossier treated as legitimate and Trump is given a defensive briefing
    – Hunter’s laptop treated as Russian disinformation and the Senators are given a defensive briefing
    – Steele dossier unverifiable
    – Hunter’s laptop verifiable
    – All hands on deck to investigate Trump including the media
    – All hands on deck to bury the Hunter story including the media

Margot Hemingway concludes her article with this very important point:

This scandal is no longer just about the Biden family; it is about every member of the law enforcement and intelligence communities who put our country at risk by failing to do their jobs.

    1. Olly quoting Trumpist Hemingway:

“This scandal is no longer just about the Biden family; it is about every member of the law enforcement and intelligence communities who put our country at risk by failing to do their jobs.”

In other words, the “Deep State!” Turley has never endorsed such paranoia.

      1. In other words, the “Deep State!” Turley has never endorsed such paranoia.

Turley: Indeed, if the alleged whistleblower accounts are true, the Hunter Biden matter showed the same “all-hands-on-deck” profile as government, political, and media allies presented a unified front on the investigation.

Turley certainly echoes her sentiment. It’s interesting that neither Hemingway or Turley used your term “Deep State” and yet that’s the first thing that came to your mind as you read her comment. She didn’t have to say it and neither did JT. It’s like the Biden administration redefining (gaslighting) what a recession is.

        1. Olly,

Words matter. There is a reason that Turley always puts “Deep State” in scare quotations- to indicate that he does not subscribe to it.

I cannot honestly say whether those governmental, political and media allies acted in bad faith in dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop. They may have acted in good faith.

Turley, for instance, is unwilling to publicly accuse Trump and his lawyers of acting in bad faith when they insisted the election was stolen on account of massive fraud. Turley still believes that it has yet to be proven that Trump consciously knew that the election was NOT stolen. Turley submits that Trump could be *honestly* mistaken to this very day!

So you will forgive me if I adopt Turley’s insistence upon discovering “smoking gun” evidence to prove that those government, political, and media allies of being duplicitous.

          Fair enough?

          1. Words. matter. There is a reason that Turley always puts “Deep State” in scare quotations- to indicate that he does not subscribe to it.

Words do matter, all of them. While you assume JT doesn’t subscribe to the the term “Deep State,” he certainly uses words to describe the “Deep State.”

So you will forgive me if I adopt Turley’s insistence upon discovering “smoking gun” evidence to prove that those government, political, and media allies of being duplicitous.

It’s not for me to forgive you. JT didn’t “insist” he was looking for smoking gun evidence. His entire post referred to evidence that if true, proves the [same] documented bias of the FBI and DOJ during the Russian collusion investigation, was downplaying or dismissing negative evidence on Hunter Biden..

I cannot honestly say whether those governmental, political and media allies acted in bad faith in dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop. They may have acted in good faith.

I can honestly say if you believe that, then you are being fed and led, rather than doing your own critical-thinking.

            1. Olly says:

“I can honestly say if you believe that, then you are being fed and led, rather than doing your own critical-thinking.”

That’s rather rich coming from a man who believes- despite all the scientific evidence to the contrary- in an omniscient and omnipotent invisible being who will hear his prayers and answer them.

Even Trump, to his credit, does not believe such a fairy tale, but managed to con you Trumpists into believing he does!

              1. That’s rather rich coming from a man who believes- despite all the scientific evidence to the contrary- in an omniscient and omnipotent invisible being who will hear his prayers and answer them.

What a pathetic reflection on your character for you to consider that a relevant point. Interestingly, it was critical-thinking about the scientific evidence that led me to believe in God.

Even Trump, to his credit, does not believe such a fairy tale, but managed to con you Trumpists into believing he does!

What Trump believes or doesn’t believe about God is of no concern to me. And I certainly wouldn’t be in a position to judge what is in his heart. It’s his policies that matter. From that I can judge what he believes.

                1. Olly,

It’s relevant as to whom between us is a rational thinker. The fact that it does not concern you that Trump is trying to con gullible religious people into believing that he is a religious man is concerning to me.

As I told ZZdoc, character matters. Both I and Turley long ago appreciated that Trump was unfit to be involved in politics. Turley stated the very idea was “obscene.” I agree.

                  1. The fact that it does not concern you that Trump is trying to con gullible religious people into believing that he is a religious man is concerning to me.

What’s rational is not thinking an atheist a) has a clue how to determine what’s in another man’s heart. b) has a genuine concern for religious people. c) understands and appreciates what issues are most important to religious people.

Character does matter. And we have a constitutional system designed specifically for the various characters that get elected to office. And no matter how often you try to link yourself to the character of Jonathan Turley, you have proven to be the antithesis of him. Not only do you lack his character, you lack his instincts and constitutional knowledge. Of course you’ll cling to him like the intellectual dependent that you are, but at the end of the day, you’ll never be Jonathan Turley.

              2. There is as much scientific evidence of a Supreme Being as there is in believing there is no Supreme Being. Your lack of belief is acceptable but for your lack of humility.

                SM

        2. Olly, Jeff Simpleton has a problem. Turley said those words and Jeff is still on the list, not disappearing as he promised to do I know there is a “deep state” and frequently use quotations around it because how deep the “deep state” is can differ from discussion to discussion and acceptance of a deep state depends on the individual though every day more and more use the term. Even Turley is using it more.

If one looks up the phrase deep state, one will see things like this: The “Deep State” Theory, Explained @ The “Deep State” Theory, Defined and Explained – ThoughtCo One can go to Wikipedia, the left’s Talmud, and find it put in quotes at times. Additionally, it will refer to sources that placed Deep state in quotes.

I think it is time for Jeff Silberman to go. He has already morphed into “Jeff Simpleton.”

          1. I forgot about that. You’re right. He suffers under what Kant described as self-incurred tutelage. I suspect he knows he has no credibility on this blog and that would explain why he feels the need to play the con that he and JT have a shared worldview. It’s pretty sad.

  17. It is definitely time to move all the federal agencies out of DC except for State and Defense (and related agencies. like NSA). I’d love to see the DOJ in Omaha and the FBI in Little Rock

    1. Whig, while back you made a comment based on Sowell’s 2016 data on gun violence. Can you clarify where that came from and provide a citation?

      Thanks.

    2. FBI should be relocated to the Sammy and Vicki Weaver Building at Ruby Ridge, Idaho. DOJ should be relocated to Crook County, Wyoming.

      1. The United States District Court For The District Of Columbia should be relocated to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

        1. No George!

The people of Coeur D’Alene Idhave done nothing to be cursed so.

Maybe a building 30ft wide & 500 -1000 mile long across the US/Mex Border for the FBI, DOJ & CIA?

    3. State Dept needs shut down!

Fm #2 of State, Dr Pie, suggest giving Govt employees their money each pay period for a retirement payment, for a self-managed one & other such things as well cutting military personal by 2/3rds at least.

As the ability to print money is here the cuts will be here anyway.

NSA, lets get Rid of those ole govt 5 eyed Spies!!!!!!

How’d we end up in bed with those Losers like the UK, Aussies, etc.

I’d as soon as trust a Gator or a pissed off Grizzle.

Did you forget Russia, Russia, Russia Fraud 5 eyes Intel sold the US Public all ready? Lose those SOBs already & all WEF!

  18. Elections can have consequences. If Republicans will controlling the House, do they have the spirit to start investigations in Judiciary Committee?
