The rising threats against Supreme Court justices has been one of the most startling elements in our age of rage. When Nicholas John Roske was arrested for the attempted murder of Brett Kavanaugh, many of the left were muted in their response and one group went ahead with a campaign to offer a bounty for any information of a conservative justice’s location in public– with an added payment if there is time for a mob to find them at the location. Yet, Vox senior correspondent Ian Millhiser seemed to cut to the chase by penning an obituary for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. With people trying to kill justices, there seemed no concern how such a “prewritten obituary” might fuel the fatal obsession of someone like Roske in our society.
In a now-deleted tweet, Millhiser said that he had updated some of his “prewritten obituaries” and gave his anticipatory remarks on the death of Justice Samuel Alito.
“Justice Samuel Alito, who died on XXXX, was not devoid of any positive traits. He was a skilled attorney and a highly effective advocate for conservative causes…Had he spent his career as a litigator, he would almost certainly be remembered as one of the Republican Party’s leading Supreme Court practitioners…The problem is that Justice Alito was, indeed, one of the Republican Party’s leading Supreme Court advocates — but he embraced this role while he was a sitting justice.”
The prewritten obituary clearly would delight those with a fatal fetish or unhinged fantasy of changing the Court through violent acts. Roske wrote on social media before his alleged attempted murder that “I could get at least one, which would change the votes for decades to come, and I am shooting for 3 all of the major decisions for the past 10 years have been along party lines so if there are more liberal than conservative judges, they will have the power.”
Most in the media were entirely silent after the postings by Millhiser. Yet, for some, there is an attitude with regard to liberal justices. Elie Mystal, who has written for The Nation and Above the Law, accused Sen. Josh Hawley of wanting to murder Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson because he questioned her about her sentencing rulings as a federal judge.
None of that means that Millhiser wants harm to come to Justice Alito. He is a lawyer who has written books criticizing the conservatives on the Court including “Injustices: The Supreme Court’s History of Comforting the Comfortable and Afflicting the Afflicted” and “The Agenda: How a Republican Supreme Court is Reshaping America.”
Rather, it reflects a sense of license to engage in the most reckless rhetoric with regard to the conservative justices. Law professors like Berkeley Dean Erwin Chemerinksy have called the justices “partisan hacks” while others have supported targeting the individual justices at their home. Georgetown Law Professor Josh Chafetz declared that “when the mob is right, some (but not all!) more aggressive tactics are justified.” Most recently, the dean and chancellor of University of California Hastings College of the Law David Faigman questioned the legitimacy of the Court after the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
It is all protected speech but, when leading columnists start posting anticipatory obituaries, it is time from some self-reflection in the media. For Mark Twain, it was merely a problem that “the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” For Samuel Alito, it seems that reports of his anticipatory death are greatly celebrated. That says a great deal of where we are and what we are becoming. If columnists and academics join this ragefest, we will become little more than rivaling mobs tearing apart our foundational institutions and values.
The pre written obituary, is a great example of a person with no knowledge of Civics, or History. I have yet had a single person explain to my the down side of a self governing populace.
The proper result will always happen. In that the People will get exactly what they vote for.
All of this, all the chicanery, deceit and corruption from the dimdems flows from a, now ingrained, rejection of the Rule of Law in favor of an “end justifies the means” approach to achieving and maintaining power. It appears that the prog/left has devolved from the ancient Greek concepts of law and civilization that underpin Western Culture and are returning to the savage barbaric qualities of the pagan world.
The Problem with the leftist, they insist their pet project MUST HAPPEN NOW. A great example is SCOTUS legislating gay marriage. The States were well on their way to re writing marriage laws. but unelected judges stuck their nose were they have no jurisdiction.
Another example is the lefts collective orgasm yesterday. What happened was EXACTLY what was supposed to happen at that time. All the while ignoring, legislative ideology changes. A single vote is meaningless. it will take several election cycles to smooth the peaks and valleys of public wants and needs. EXACTLY as the system was designed 240 years ago.
Judges really need to tend to their enumerated powers and force legislatures do their job.
Here in Doublestandardstan (TM) it gets worse every day. If a senator rightly asks a liberal about her judicial philosophy or prior cases he is threatening, but Schumer can make his threatening speech and all is well. Now imagine if Pat Buchanan wrote an obituary for Justice Jackson and the outrage that would rightly ensue. The citizenship of Doublestandardstan is rightly upset by what is happening.
Through it all Joseph Robinette Biden has remained mute. That’s orders of magnitude greater than 187 minutes.
Turn about is fair play….what say we start a campaign to dox Reporters and others who pen such articles of their own…..and see how they react to being potential targets for Loonies themselves?
How quick would we see a turnaround in such commentary by the Left.
We know they like to dish it out…but choke when it is them on the receiving end of exactly the same treatment they like to give others they disagree with.
Well said. And one wonders how long before the ‘turnabout’ begins. The left knows full well who owns the guns and are well-trained to use them.
Mobs and mobsters control the political debate today. They hate their country and hate themselves too. Tearing the country down and menacing those who preserve it is now de rigueur for the rabble that is enabled, protected and represented by Democrats. Once the KKK was the militant arm of the Democratic party, now it is the mob. How much hate can a nation withstand?
I think that for quite awhile the media and some in the government have been slowly opening doors to let crazies think murder of the ‘right’ people is morally acceptable.
They usually stay this side of deniability, of course, but lately they are edging over the line.
It is evil. An old word but one that is becoming relevant of late; sometimes only ‘evil’ will do to describe them
“for quite awhile the media and some in the government have been slowly opening doors to let crazies think murder of the ‘right’ people is morally acceptable.”
Edging? Ashli Babbitt was murdered as was Roseanne Boyland whose death was facilitated by the Capitol Police offensive. What did ATS say? He called Ashli Babbitt a Stupid Woman.

Communism on display. And don’t forget comrades, January 6th was an insurrection because Nasty Pelosi said so.
I don’t believe the people of this country know the difference between right and wrong anymore.
Independent Bob,
I think they do know right from wrong.
But in this day and age, they can post something they know to be controversial or ‘wrong’ and then just delete it, give a faux apology.
It’s like Rome in the last days. We’d better cut these cancers out before they do it to us and our institutions. If you wanna play revolutionary, you oughta get the wages of that sin.
They are journalists. By definition they are stupid. Intelligence left that profession decades ago.
Politics is rapidly being depleted of intelligence but not quite to the rock bottom of journalists.
The teaching profession still has some intelligence in it but it has been corrupted in many of the states and needs to have some cleansing of the ranks and it probably will need to occur at the state level.
Push for the Supreme Court to move as much as it can to the state levels where we all can have more of an impact.
Hope for an intelligent Republican president who can go in with a sincere and lasting ability to deconstruct the administrative state and force the legislatures and Congress to do their jobs.
We also need to deconstruct the monopoly on the news so we can have meaningful discussions of all issues left and right. No one has all the answers .
If a Republican President of quality can get elected in 2024, then demolish the filibuster, and rapidly push through the changes needed like FDR did in his 100 days. But we need a president, speaker and Senate Majority leader all on the same page.
Also make sure to get congressmen of quality elected! Just voting party line doesn’t seem to do any good.
That means vote out the Rino’s like McConnel.
Both parties have essentially kicked out the rational moderate non-violent members of their parties. When you kick out the moderates, only the extreme wing remains. Today these extreme wings have too much influence on party leaders.
Republicans may want to get back to basics supporting candidates more like Eisenhower (Pro-NATO) predating the dirty tricks of Lee Atwater. Democrats may want to support candidates like Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton (although socially-liberal, Clinton was the last real fiscally-conservative president that left office with a balanced budget). Obama brought down the deficit below what he inherited from Bush, otherwise Obama likely would have balanced the budget also.
As far as censorship, the real problem is the mission creep government-censors. Few if any can distinguish legal 1st Amendment activity from illegal speech. The net result is it mostly punishes the wrong speech, creating a chilling effect on all speech. Most of this illegal punishment of legal speech is done “covertly” (ie: Cointelpro style tactics). Covert activity, perpetrated by government-censors, bypasses “constitutional judicial review” by judges or inspector generals. Covert punishments robs the citizen (speaker) of legal standing in court, to correct mistakes or premeditated fraud by some censors.
Can we please stop mistating Obama’s deficts.
The last Bush defict was lower than the lowest obama deficit.
You can claim legitimately that the First Obama deficit was do to the recession.
But nearly all the spending choices that caused it were made by Obama.
(although socially-liberal, Clinton was the last real fiscally-conservative president that left office with a balanced budget
The President appropriates $ZERO. I wonder who the Speaker of the House was back then? (All spending bill MUST originate in the House)
Careful Marxist the knife cuts both ways. 700 million guns in circulation.
Let’s don’t go there. Don’t start something we will finish.
Justice Samuel Alito is a towering legal Catholic scholastic amongst beta-male cowards like Millhiser and Mystal. The latter represent chihuahuas that yap at Alito’s shadow. A true man would show more class, integrity and self-respect.
When lawyers make their living writing and opining for discredited, polemical news corporations, what more can one deduce as to their legal abilities and skillsets to make a living defending clients in court? Even Professor Turley keeps his vocation to heart when he legally represents Members of Congress for Impeachment hearings. Like physicians turned politicians, they wasted a seat in their law / medical school for someone who could have helped a person in need. Helping others in need comes strictly from a religious construct. Without religion there is no morality in society, as George Washington articulated in his farewell speech.
From WSJ:
Justice Samuel Alito speaking at the University of Notre Dame Law School’s Religious Liberty Summit in Rome, July 21
I’m reminded of an experience I had . . . in a museum in Berlin. One of the exhibits was a rustic wooden cross. A . . . woman, and a young boy were looking at this exhibit. And the young boy turns to the woman, presumably his mother, and said: “Who is that man?” That memory has stuck in my mind as a harbinger of what may lie ahead for our culture. And the problem that looms is not just indifference to religion, it’s not just ignorance about religion. There’s also growing hostility to religion. . . .
These progressives are sick in the head. They should be institutionalized. They are causing the downfall of America.
Who in their right mind would think that was a good idea?
Seriously, that is some sick and twisted stuff.
Reads like a bad plot line for a Hollywood movie.
So many lefties are ugly people.
Not just the retards fantasizing in public about death, but the lefties who read these articles and nod approvingly.
These articles wouldn’t be published unless there was a receptive audience of ugly people to welcome them.
Every day I wake up to the embarrassment of what the Left and the Democrats have done to the US.
The world knows that 50% of the US voted for a man who is early stage senility and with possibly one of the most corrupt families in US political history. On top of that his lies have been astounding.
The Dems and now the Biden Admin have:
– weakened the US by lying for 6 years about the previous administration in their colluding with Steele (a russian asset)
– worked to destroy the economy with +9% inflation
– doubled gas prices and ruined our energy dependence
– Lied about Hunter’s laptop and the obvious unethical Biden family and Joe, as well as the risk to national security with a president owned by foreign nationals
– have emboldened China, Russia, Iran, and other foreign powers with policies designed to weaken the US
– allowed over 3million illegals to cross our border at shattering rates, and thus empowering drug traffickers, sex trade, and the cartels, as well as most certainly terrorists to enter our country
– supported violence in our ciites, ignored the victims of crimes while empowering the criminals
– perverted our youth with their DIE agenda of self-harm and insanity
It’s impossible to catalogue the destruction of America at the hands of the Democrats and far-left they Kow-tow to. But the list could go on and on. It was a sad day when the Trump era policies were lost to the pain the Dems and Left have wrought upon us.
The world really knows that Trump is a loser who cheated his way into office. The world knows that Joe Biden is a competent, compassionate man who has healed the friction with our EU and NATO allies caused by Trump so successfully that Finland and Sweden now want to join NATO. The world knows that Trump is a chronic, habitual liar, and that there’s no proof that Joe Biden did anything illegal. If anyone “weakened the US”, it was Trump: who insulted our EU and NATO allies, accused Germany and other countries of being “deadbeats”, who sided with notorious murderer and former KGB agent Putin and against his own intelligence publicly at Helsinki, who accepted help from Russian hackers to spread lies about Hillary Clinton on social media because he knew there was no way he could legitimately win. Trump also weakened the US by lobbying for Russia to try to get it back into the G-7, and by praising Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as “savvy” and “genius”.
The “Dems and…Biden Admin” did not “work to destroy the economy” or “double gas prices”. That was Trump’s fault. Trump inherited a booming economy created by Obama from the ashes of Bush’s disasterous presidency, and turned it into the worst recession since the Great Depression, with 10% unemployment (Biden turned this around to 3.5%), with schools, factories and businesses closed down for about 2 years, and by starting a trade war with China, resulting in shortages of consumer goods and computer chips. The pandemic was out of control, and we had new daily records for deaths and infections, all while Trump is lying about the seriousness of COVID, refusing to wear a mask, pushing fake cures, like Hydroxychloroquine and failing to take measures to marshal things like ultra-cold freezers to store and transport the COVID vaccine, PPE, syringes and other supplies needed, which are things that require leadership and not a background in science. Biden was tasked with these things. Instead Trump was dreaming up cutesy slogans like “operation warp speed”, trying to take credit for the ingenuity of our scientific community that successfully sequenced the virus’s genetic code. All of the other things you claim Biden and Democrats have done are just simply lies. There’s nothing that made America look weaker than a fat, bloated, lying former reality TV performer who relies on praise and adulation, who lied to the American people about the seriousness of the pandemic, who sided with a murderous dictator, who never even got a 50% approval rating, and who refuses to accept the fact that he lost a free and fair election. Nothing makes a person look weaker or provide concrete proof of lack of patriotism and leadership than someone with a massive ego who refuses to admit the truth and accept the fact that he lost an election. That’s why there are “Baby Trump” balloons in England. Trump is the laughingstock of the world. His latest caper is to claim that the responsibility for 911 has not been determined after previously admitting that the Saudis were behind it. This is because he is pandering to the Saudis because it will bring income to his Bedminster golf course. Tell that to 911 families.
Trump had NO policies, other than pandering to racism and misogyny and seeking attention and adulation. The only legislation he got passed was tax breaks that mostly benefitted the very wealthy, and which drove our national debt to record levels. Interest on the national debt alone is a major contributor to inflation. Biden has brought down the debt by several trillion. Biden has been far more successful than Trump was or ever could be: he passed the biggest infrastructure package in history that will create thousands of high-paying jobs, he has gotten passed measures to bring down the cost of prescription drugs and to support domestic computer chip production; his policies are bringing inflation under control, but due to Trump’s tariff war with China, we still have supply chain issues, which causes shortages of consumer goods. When demand exceeds supply, prices go up. This is all Trump’s fault. If Trump could somehow have cheated his way to a second term, we’d be in a 3rd world war and all-out depression.
I think Natasha is a Chinese plant.
“I think Natasha is a Chinese plant.”

Me, too. I’m guessing the Maidenhair Tree (Ginkgo bikoba) but any weed would likely be possible.
The stupidity of the supposed smart people amazes me. And this week, it has been more amazing. I have been in awe of the stupidity of the supposed smart people because they have been surprised by the consequences of their actions.
