Virginia Becomes Ground Zero in Battles Over Parental Rights

While it is unlikely to pass, new legislation criminalizing the refusal of parents to affirm their children’s LGBT identity would trigger a likely successful constitutional challenge. WJLA  reported that Democratic Virginia Delegate Elizabeth Guzman will introduce a bill that will expand the state’s definition of child abuse and neglect to include parents and guardians who do not affirm the gender identity declared by their children. In the meantime, a journalist, David Leavitt, reported Virginia state senate candidate Tina Ramirez to Child Protective Services over a tweet celebrating Columbus Day as creating an abusive environment for her children. Such unhinged efforts are further pushing parental rights higher among the top concerns for voters.

Leavitt, who has written for media outlets like bylines for CBS and Yahoo, was upset when Ramirez tweeted on Columbus Day that “I teach my daughter real American history. I refuse to join the radical left’s campaign to erase history.”

Leavitt lost it and called on his supporters to file complaints with child welfare:

“Why are you celebrating torture, rape, murder, and enslavement?” Can someone please call child care services on Tina Ramirez who’s teaching her child to be a racist?”

He then reported that he was miffed that he was on hold with child welfare to report Ramirez:

“The Virginia State hotline for child abuse has a 43+ minute hold and is experiencing ‘high call volumes’ with 14 callers ahead of me. This is unacceptable. How many people try to report child abuse and hang up? How many children will continue to be abused?”

Ramirez responded: “Mighty bold and liberal of you to lecture a Hispanic mother with a black daughter on racism.”

Leavitt then declared again that he was reporting her to authorities for how she was raising her children: “The lady who’s teaching her kids how to be racist thinks I’m “bold.” Does she know I’m [on] hold to report her to child and family services?”

It did not seem to matter to Leavitt that he was jamming the lines of the child welfare office with frivolous claims as people tried to get through to report real and dangerous situations. Those children would have to wait as Leavitt told his over 300,000 Twitter followers to flood the lines.

The license assumed by Leavitt to dictate the values of parents is hardly unique. Indeed, the new legislation would make it a crime not to recognize a change in gender identity of a child.

Democratic Virginia Delegate Elizabeth Guzman proclaimed that it should be a crime for parents to hold an opposing view on such changes for their children. She was less specific on the details: “It could be a felony, it could be a misdemeanor, but we know that CPS charge could harm your employment, could harm their education, because nowadays many people do a CPS database search before offering employment.”

Such a law would be flagrantly unconstitutional under the First Amendment if written as described. However, it likely does not matter for Guzman any more than it mattered to Leavitt that he was making a frivolous report to child welfare.

Notably, both Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va) and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D., Va.,) were campaigning last week with Guzman in the midst of the outcry over her push for this criminal law.

With the recent election of Glenn Youngkin on a parental rights platform, Virginia is shaping up as ground zero for the issue. It is clearly gaining importance in other states with education as a midterm election issue.

  1. I’m sick of this ****. So I’m coming out as RACIST. I 100% believe there are 2 races, and one is far superior to the other. The first is the human race, and everyone in this group should be treated equally and as an individual. The second is the non-human race which includes beavers, cows and porcupines. I reserve the right to eat the second kind if I get hungry enough.

  2. Before they start castrating boys and removing breasts and sex organs from girls they should consider that some of the ‘studies’ supporting those mutilations are driven by politics [scientism] rather than science.

Even the GAO has published a warning titled: “Scientific Integrity: HHS Agencies Need to Develop Procedures and Train Staff on Reporting and Addressing Political Interference” https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-22-104613

    Note this comment:

“Employees told us they observed potential political interference but they didn’t report it because they:

    feared retaliation
were unsure how to report issues
believed agency leaders were already aware”

I suspect that the ‘agency leaders’, often politically connected, were aware of the political interference and were sometimes a part of it.

  3. “[I]t should be a crime for parents to hold an opposing view on such changes for their children.”

The Left used to be aghast at female genital mutilation. Now, for what should be a simple matter for a child psychologist, they champion the genital mutilation of girls and boys.

Something wicked has infected the Left.

  4. Influencer Obi London declared himself trans racial, then transgender, and now has announced that he’s detransitioning.

“I had been unhappy throughout my life with how I look and was bullied as a child. In 2013, I used to live in South Korea, and plastic surgery is everywhere there. I felt, ‘Maybe I can change myself and find happiness…Originally, I went to the doctor and chose a member from [Korean pop band] BTS, and the surgeries would go wrong, and so I’d do it again. And then when I decided to become a woman, I wanted to focus on Rose from Korean girl group BLACKPINK. She’s beautiful and has a cute face, and I felt I could emulate that. I just find Koreans so beautiful; they’re such nice people and so beautiful.”

“Six months ago I had facial feminization surgeries, 11 in one day. I changed by bone structure. I go their extensions, changed wardrobes, started wearing makeup, had my hair removed. I did it because I thought it would make me happy. I felt happy at the time but over a period of reflection, I felt I was chasing happiness. Being a woman is not for me.”

“I am no longer trans and have gone back to living as a man. Grateful if everyone could respect my new pronouns- He/Him KOR/EAN. Thank you.”

Please make a note of this the next time someone says, “trans women are real women,” or gives their opinion as a fact that someone can actually change their gender.

Transgender uses behavior, dress, makeup or lack thereof, and in some cases, medication and surgery, to approximate the appearance of the opposite sex. It is impossible to actually change gender. Transracial people do exactly the same with race.

The Left suddenly declared that after decades of gender and sex being synonyms, the former suddenly referred to an internal identity, and the latter was a biological, before changing their minds again, and claiming that sex and gender are in fact indefinable, and that one can change their sex and gender at will.

Many do not agree with this drastic and imprecise redefining of ancient concepts like male and female.

Women are getting harassed and bullied for proclaiming that sex is a biological binary, with the rare exception of intersex conditions.

My gender is not a state of mind.

  5. One should note that disagreeing with the Party Line, regarding BLM, CRT, boys becoming girls, allowing biological boys to enter girls’ locker rooms and compete in their sports, the debunked 1619 Project, mandatory vaccination with an out of date vaccine that neither protects against infection nor transmission, will lead to a threat of punishment. Parents can lose custody in custody disputes, they can be targeted with calls to CPS, lose jobs, get kicked off social media, lose scholarships, lose spots on sports teams, and a thousand other ways.

We observed this behavior in the Red Army under Mao, the Brown Shirts, the Fascists. It’s always the same.

The brave are those who stand up to the furious mob.

  6. Rates of transgenderism, or gender dysphoria, are skyrocketing. Phenomena such as social contagion has been observed, in which when one person declares as transgender, the rest of the group of friends is at increased risk of declaring themselves transgender.

Transgenderism carries with it a high risk of suicide. Medical transition carries serious, irreversible side effects. The term “reversible” puberty blockers is a misnomer. It’s reversible, in the sense that withdrawal of the medication stops blocking androgen. However, the damage is done. Puberty blockers, which are also termed “chemical castration”, interferes with the development of the sex organs, as well as the masculinizing of males’ face and body. This creates stunted genital growth, such as a micropenis, and a permanent inability to experience orgasm. Puberty blockers make gender reassignment surgery more complicated, because their use leads to too little genital tissue to use for a vaginoplasty. Cross sex hormones have permanent side effects. When women take them, their voice permanently lowers, for example. Surgical gender reassignment surgery castrates males, amputates the healthy breasts of females, and sterilizes them with a hysterectomy. This is serious when performed on adults. It’s indefensible medical abuse when done to minors, who by definition lack the maturity to make life altering decisions, whether it’s to get a tattoo or get castrated.

Young children are being carefully groomed to view transgenderism as a means to receive positive attention. They receive messaging from all sides that being transgender is special, brave, and a part of a community. Nearly every single children’s show that I have seen now features gay and/or transgender characters. This all happened within a couple of years. Blues Clues even had a Gay Pride Parade, with a real drag queen singing, featuring transgender beavers with mastectomy scars. Mastectomy scars. In a children’s cartoon.

What these children do not understand is that while declaring themselves transgender at a young age will get them lots of attention from teachers, other students, and online communities, it sets them on the path of permanent sterilization, and a very high suicide risk. What looks cute, to some, in a little child of 8 or 9, will one day be an adult transgender person, with a permanent vaginoplasty wound that will require electrolysis to remove the hair from inside, as it uses scrotal and penile tissue to form. That wound will forever be susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections, as the skin was never intended to be internal, and will forever require specialized care.

It has also come to light that the oft-repeated mantra, that affirming someone’s gender identity can prevent suicide, is false. The studies have been misrepresented. Some study authors have condemned the conclusion that gender reassignment surgery prevents suicide, claiming that their study concluded the exact opposite. The much touted Danish study has never been successfully repeated. In addition, it only used participants that underwent rigorous psychological screening. In the US, psychiatrists, pediatricians, teachers, and parents are admonished that they must affirm gender identity or face severe consequences. Two Democrat states are exploring legislation to make it a felony for a parent to refuse to affirm a child’s perceived gender identity.

    1. It is important to separate two issues here. The first issue is how to respond (as parents, educators, etc.) to expression of transgenderism or gender nonconforming identity in children and adolescents. The second issue concerns whether permanent surgery should be allowed/promoted/protected, etc. I think your post conflates the two.

As a moderate on this issue, I am in favor of allowing children to express their identity (and such identity to be protected from the political views of their parents), but I think surgery prior to age 18 or earlier emancipation should be something with which parents have input. Emancipation should be an option (and social programs should exist to help youths who wish to emancipate) in certain circumstances.

        Article VII AMENDMENTS

        Introduction

Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the United States Constitution is the world’s longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words – “We The People” – affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens. The supremacy of the people through their elected representatives is recognized in Article I, which creates a Congress consisting of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The positioning of Congress at the beginning of the Constitution affirms its status as the “First Branch” of the federal government.

The Constitution assigned to Congress responsibility for organizing the executive and judicial branches, raising revenue, declaring war, and making all laws necessary for executing these powers. The president is permitted to veto specific legislative acts, but Congress has the authority to override presidential vetoes by two-thirds majorities of both houses. The Constitution also provides that the Senate advise and consent on key executive and judicial appointments and on the approval for ratification of treaties.

For over two centuries the Constitution has remained in force because its framers successfully separated and balanced governmental powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the federal and state governments. More a concise statement of national principles than a detailed plan of governmental operation, the Constitution has evolved to meet the changing needs of a modern society profoundly different from the eighteenth-century world in which its creators lived. To date, the Constitution has been amended 27 times, most recently in 1992. The first ten amendments constitute the Bill of Rights.

  10. Though there are genuine cases of gender dysphoria they are few. Many of the cases with the young, particularly with girls, arise from social contagion and will not last. Others seem to be due to Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, usually by mothers. These are similar to those cases in which a mother poisons or injures her child to draw sympathetic attention to herself. Notice how proudly some of these women parade their ‘trans’ children?

In most of these cases it is insane to begin blocking normal development with chemicals or to carry on castrating boys and performing hysterectomies and breast removal on girls.

Focus on that: These people mean to take knives to children and slice away their sexual organs. As we have seen in the recent Vanderbilt cases, one strong motive appears to be profit–it pays well to destroy a child.

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/community-family/blackburn-doctor-profits-transgender-surgeries-video

Now politicians and some judges want to block, or prosecute, parents who are sane enough to see and stop the grievous and permanent harm about to be done to their children. For whatever reason, that particular madness–like so many others–appears most among Democrats.

Despite efforts of zealots to suppress the information, more and more individuals who have been permanently scarred, damaged and sterilized by these procedures are coming out with de-transition videos. Most wonder how any responsible, presumably sane, adults, and particularly medical professionals, could have encouraged and enabled the destruction of their sexual organs and their lives. They will never have children. They will never lead normal lives.

    Some will sue.

But they can never be restored.

    1. FYI, in case you desire to stay informed with the science on this issue, a 2022 study published in the Medical Journal Pediatrics calls into question the “social contagion” hypothesis.

      https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/150/3/e2022056567/188709/Sex-Assigned-at-Birth-Ratio-Among-Transgender-and?autologincheck=redirected%3fnfToken%3d00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

The original study that sparked the “social contagion” / “rapid onset gender dysphoria” discussion was based on surveys completed by 256 parents with no input from the youth themselves. These parents were predominantly recruited to join the study from three (3) websites. One such site is 4thWaveNOW, which describes itself as a “community of people who question the medicalization of gender-atypical youth.” A second site, Transgender Trend has the tagline “No child is born in the wrong body.”
Do you think parents who frequent those sites would have an a certain political bias that might affect the data? In fact, 76.5% of parent respondents believed their child’s trans identification is not correct. Therefore, the selection and sampling was clearly homogenous and not representative.

Here is just one of the publicly available articles outlining the many design flaws in the 2018 study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7012957/

      1. I didn’t base my opinion on that study. Given the disasters with the Covid studies I have found i have much less confidence in studies. Too many have become like polls, designed to push a narrative rather than uncover truth.

As for ‘social contagion’ I had already identified the mechanism [and discussed it here] long before I came across that handy–but imprecise–term. You may recall my comment about a rash of suicides among young girls in ancient Miletus. Thales was asked to help and he said decree that any young woman killing herself must be naked at her funeral. The suicide trend slammed to a stop. In another instance a lot of girls in a high school were becoming pregnant. Again the hunger for attention and caring were driving factors. Once young girls see other girls being lavished with sympathy and attention for gender dysphoria one could easily predict that soon there would be a lot of them, which is exactly what has happened. Same with mothers prone to Munchausen by proxy.

On this issue it is easy enough to figure it out for yourself by simply paying attention.

        1. “Given the disasters with the Covid studies…”

Young, you are correct, not just because of the Covid studies. The so-called soft sciences are wrong much of the time. Covid is the latest hit to these so-called experts.

Those involved in psychotherapy and related fields often treat their own problems rather than the person they are supposed to help. Many do damage. They gather supporting literature to meet their needs while the rest of us suffer. I do not mean this as a slam to good psychiatrists and psychologists who recognize when the patient’s problems become their own grievances.

We tend to leave challenging disciplines to the experts, transgender studies included, but the experts that have appeared are satisfying their own emotional needs, ideologies, and wealth promotion schemes. We know this is true and that they throw a lot of bull around because major profit centers in major universities are now trying to distance themselves from their ill-gained profits.

          1. At least y’all are out in the open about your aversion to science. I suppose I should not have expected otherwise.

            1. Your problem is you can’t show us the science which includes both sides of the story. When you can only show one side, your claim becomes meaningless and that you are.

              1. More to the point, I think the lack of knowledge regarding the steps and significance of the scientific method is the largely to blame for this misunderstanding. The idea that science should have “a side” is something we all are supposed to know is incorrect in middle school science. 6 Steps, taken from a middle school level textbook:

                1. Make an observation.
                2. Ask a question.
                3. Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation.
                4. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis.
                5. Test the prediction.
                6. Iterate: use the results to make new hypotheses or predictions.

There is no step, which says “provide narrative which accounts for liberal and conservative points of view.”

                1. Today science has become a story on the left where all scientific discipline has been abandoned. To the left Michal Mann is a hero because he didn’t tell the truth about climate change, Covid science is complete, nothing further need to learn. Canceling other scientific opinions is not science but the best the left has to offer.

I am glad you got to a middle school textbook for you introduction into science.

                    1. On a related note on how science has become less ‘scientific’ over the previous decades…

Not true at all. What is true is that today’s science is lightyears over the heads of 99% of Americans. That is on them. Americans cant even explain fertilization of an ovum by a sperm cell in basic terms, never mind elementary biochemistry, physiology nor genetics. The comments on this forum alone by proaborts reflect an embarrassing ignorance of basic embryology.

If you want to understand what modern science is saying today, you have to want to read it. Alas, it is a humbling, humiliating feat vs dopamine rush from insulting strangers on internet forums.

Science is not the problem. Americans choosing slothful ways is the problem. China is burying Americans as to pursuit of scientific breakthroughs

The following was published 6 years ago by foreigners at MIT

Homeostasis is a hallmark of biological systems that actively maintain a near-constant function in the face of a changing environment. In most animals, multiple systems, from the cellular to the organismal level— including the immune system, the nervous system, and fibroblasts in connective tissue—play crucial homeostatic roles as they sense, respond, and adapt to an ever-changing environment, both external and intraorganismal, in different tissues in the body. In particular, the immune system achieves tunability, plasticity, and adaptability to the environment at several levels (Fig. 1). First, immune cells have transient responses to diverse factors, such as microbes, vaccines, tissue damage, or cancer cells (1). Second, controlled differentiation from progenitor cells generates different cell type balances (2). Furthermore, cells exhibit plasticity, such that certain immune cells can change their identity in the context of new signals (3, 4). Finally, cells can locate and relocate throughout the body, adapting their identity to their locale (1, 5).

These abilities are controlled by a complex molecular circuitry, both intracellular (within immune cells) and through interaction among immune cells, or between immune cells and other cell types, including cells of the nervous system or fibroblasts.

Yosef N, Regev A. Writ large: Genomic dissection of the effect of cellular environment on immune response. Science. 2016 Oct 7;354(6308):64-68. doi: 10.1126/science.aaf5453.

                    2. You’re right, “Americans choosing slothful ways is the problem.” That’s what Crichton was getting at in his various speeches. Americans and others are allowing science and medicine to be politicized for the sake of making policy decisions. Science results that can’t be replicated by others is, let’s call it what it is, SINO – Science in Name Only, and is more currently based on practicing “Preponderance of Presumption” theories, rather than implementing the traditional, proven scientific methods. The political reaction to Covid-19 has the same problem. It wasn’t based on traditional medical knowledge, practices and protocols that have been in place for the past 200+ years. Instead, the medical professionals practicing their trade in offices and hospitals, were subject to threats of losing their jobs if they didn’t follow the newly created ‘approved’ narrative on how to deal with a new, but hardly novel – it was labeled as another type of coronavirus – viral outbreak. There’s nothing scientific about silencing doctors and other medical professionals who don’t or won’t “get with the program’. Sadly, critical thinking skills aren’t being taught to students at any level of education today. That does not bode well for future scientists or anyone else in a free society.

                    3. One of my all-time favorite quotes, “”Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts.” — Richard Feynman

                    1. MIchael Mann is a fraud and a hoaxster – why would anyone care about ANYTHING we is part of.

A couple of recent papers claim to have established mathematically that ECS is essentially in calculable – that the margin of error is mathematically required to be an order of magnitude larger than the calculated value.

And the cumulative temperature anomaly since 1979 is +0.24C

          2. S. Meyer: “The so-called soft sciences are wrong much of the time. Covid is the latest hit to these so-called experts.”
            +++

Yes. There is what some call a ‘replication crisis’. It seems a very high percentage of soft science studies, some of them influential, have been withdrawn because it was impossible to replicate the results. In other words they were crap.

With Covid the influence of huge amounts of ‘interested’ money from pharma seems to have corrupted even respected journals. JAMA, for example, had a study with a title and abstract declaring Ivermectin ineffective treating Covid. Yet, when you looked at the data itself 10 patients in the control group died and only 3 in the Ivermectin group. How is that evidence that Ivermectin is ineffective? Yet it likely would not have been published at all if the title and abstract reflected the actual results. Even so, the study was flawed in that the Ivermectin protocol developed by clinicians actually trying to treat patients recommends early treatment along with other things like zinc. The JAMA study started treatment after the disease had progressed and was not combined with zinc, designed to fail but even then it didn’t fail. There are many other examples.

Politics, woke delusions and big, big piles of money have infected commercial ‘sciences’. Everything important needs to be looked at closely when making policy. The ‘experts cannot be trusted without examining their work and their potential conflicts of interest.

How do you explain the explosion in transgender rates, never before seen in human history? How do you explain one girl declaring herself transgender, and then within a year, many of her friends doing the same?

Detransitioners are speaking out against medical transitioning of minors. Many have expressed anguish at the permanent disfigurements they did to their bodies, encouraged every step of the way by adults they wish had told them no.

“I don’t think anybody would have described me as gender nonconforming, or a tomboy or anything like that,” Helena admitted.

Though Helena said she never would have been considered “gender nonconforming” or even a tomboy, after hours of scrolling Tumblr, the social contagion of transgender ideology took root in her mind and began fueling her mental health problems.

“By the time I was about 13, I started to feel really depressed. I started self-harming. I started developing an eating disorder. That kind of isolation led me to go on Tumblr because I was spending a lot of time online generally,” Helena said. “I was introduced to a belief system that it had a lot to do with gender, but it was more like, ‘If you don’t fit in, that’s a sign that you’re trans. If you don’t like your body, that’s a sign that you’re trans. And if you transition, all these problems will be fixed.’”

        1. What is your statistical basis for this “explosion”? Are these “rates” self-reported? Do you have evidence that controls for lack of prior reporting?

          1. Do you have evidence she is wrong? You wish to disfigure, make sterile, and cause harm to children without adequate proof. Your desires support child molestation.

            1. Yes, thanks for asking. My original post was a peer-reviewed study, which showed otherwise.

              https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/150/3/e2022056567/188709/Sex-Assigned-at-Birth-Ratio-Among-Transgender-and?autologincheck=redirected%3fnfToken%3d00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

One takeaway: The total percentage of transgender adolescents decreased from 2.4% (2,161 adolescents out of 91,937 overall) in 2017 to 1.6% (1,640 adolescents out of 105,437 overall) in 2019. This decrease in the overall percentage of adolescents identifying as transgender is incongruent with the social contagion hypothesis.

              1. You are going to hang your hat on that one study? To engage in such actions that can cause great harm requires a lot more studies and a much better one to boot. The lead writer isn’t even a full professor.

Too many people are engaged in hurting and disfiguring our youth. You seem to be one of them.

Do you have peer-reviewed research to suggest otherwise? I am always open to reviewing more scientific studies.

                  1. Wikipedia.

He is an assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at The University of California San Francisco and affiliate

                    1. “He is a “full” professor at UCSF” WRONG

In other words, as usual, you didn’t know what you were talking about. You shoot from the hip. Additionally, not all assistant professors become professors, and those that do go through a learning process. When they finish they are not necessarily experts.

This guy is young and obviously needs the experience to reduce confirmation bias. His field is not mathematics which peaks early. He chose psychiatry which requires much more experience in the world. Then again, not infrequently, psychiatrists go into that profession to satisfy their own problems. This is Turban’s history from Wikipedia, and though Wikipedia provided no age, looking at his picture and experience, one recognizes he is quite young.

Wikipedia: ” Fearful of violence from his father, he did not come out as gay until he attended college.[13] He later wrote in The New England Journal of Medicine about his early experiences of childhood homophobia and how they influenced his experience of medical education.

He might be young enough that his brain hasn’t even matured, and one cannot discount confirmation bias. He certainly hasn’t had time to learn from his mistakes which is part of becoming an expert.

ATS lacks adequate knowledge in his responses. He cannot integrate facts and draw good decisions from what he reads. He only looks for things that agree with him and then posts names and links (some of which he doesn’t understand) only to promote his ideology. His ability to think is very meager.

                    2. I love the gibberish: “Not all assistant professors become professors.”

If you have a legitimate critique of his work, I am open to it. But speaking in generalities suggests that you’ve not read it.

                    3. Face it ATS, you screwed up badly. Being wrong wasn’t the problem. It was your snark and trying to prove how smart you were when you demonstrated the opposite. Trying to undo your mistake and attempting to sound superior when you were nothing more than stupid. You want me to show where he is wrong. That is the opposite of what you should be doing. You are disfiguring children, so you have to prove yourself right. You can’t. You linked to things you know nothing about. You didn’t even know the lead author’s qualifications.

You acted stupidly. Not unusual for you.

                    4. What did I say that was wrong?

A “full” professor is a term without meaning. You made that up. Tenure track and non-tenure track have meaning. Full-time tenure track professors at UCSF are called “Assistant Professors.”

Moreover, the Brown study that sparked the “social contagion” hysteria was authorized by Lisa Littman, who is also an assistant professor (but of behavioral and social sciences, not a physical science discipline). So, why do you trust one assistant professor’s work but not another?

I think the answer is that the scientific research matters less than the narrative. Case in point, the above commenter’s appeal to science both sides-ism.

Again, if you would like to critique the study, please do. The topic is important and I am always open to discussion. But, for some, a resort to name-calling and posts which should violate the Civility Rule (though that does not appear to be monitored much on this site) are favored over any semblance of reasoned debate.

                    5. ATS, your snarky responses, errors, and lack of reasoning, putting children in danger, are a disaster in progress. You have demonstrated a poor understanding of these studies. I don’t trust any studies done to date. There is not enough data and not enough time, while the logic is convincing that this idea is wrong.

Your responses demonstrate ignorant naivete at best or a run-away ideology that doesn’t care, at worst.

        2. By the way, Karen, the Federalist article you linked to, links to a NYP article from 2020, citing the flawed Brown study using parent-reported data from anti-transgender websites (the one I noted earlier in this thread). The Federalist cited the NYP article (which paraphrased the Brown study) to make the unsubstantiated claim that transition surgeries have quadrupled.

FYI: It is always a good idea to check hyperlinks to see where the “information” originated before posting. This proves my original point that most of the misinformation on this subject stems from a discredited study which fundamentally flawed methods. Remember the scientific method! Think about it this way: if the 76.5% of data is reported by parents with your views regarding transgenderism and 23.5% is reported by parents with my views regarding transgenderism, do you think that would provide data that is representative and reproducible? Of course not.

        3. Good comment, Karen. Like Anorexia Nervosa, Depression, Anxiety and Suicide amongst female children under age 18, much of these phenomena like gender dysphoria are driven by peers, social media and loneliness. Kids today suffer from neglect by parents who have relinquished their duties to form the conscience and moral upbringing of their offspring, likely because the parents lack the same. Bad parenting skills is palpable and observable in schools and universities.

the birth rate has been falling for decades. With the Left pushing abortions, euthanasia and sexual mutilation of these minors like a cult, our country will be rid soon of Leftists, not a bad thing, as they are infertile in mind, body and spirit. Reproducing is not in them…thankfully

      3. The FACT is of all the mental health issues in existance – there are only a handful that we are actually good at diagnosing or treating.

Those in mental health professions are to be admired for what they do, but that does nto alter the fact that we do not know what we are doing.

Nearly all issues involving mental health fall into a catogory those of you on the left do not grasp exists. Problems we do not know what to do about. Look at the long history of dealing with mental health. Are we really doing better today than 200 years ago ?

We have gone from sanatoriums to homelessness and drug addiction to criminal incarceration.

What we have NOT done is much good.

I would be happy to get behind a solution that worked. We do not have one.
We are not even good at diagnosing mental health issues.

You want to attack one study and promote others. But the real world fact is there is very little in the world of mental health that has strong evidence of effectiveness. I am glad for the little that does work.

But go ahead with all of this – the odds are you end up with hundreds of thousands of pissed 30 somethings, who have been mangled and are no better off than before.

  11. Jonathan: There is no doubt Trump is a racist. He is also an anti-semite. Yesterday in a post Trump accused American Jews of having dual loyalties and voting for the Dems is an act of “disloyalty”. Trump said: “No president has done more for Israel than I have”…but “our wonderful Evangelicals are far more appreciative of this than the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the US”. Trump even said he could be the PM of Israel–they love him so much, Trump ended his post with: “US Jews have to get their act together and appreciate what they have in Israel–before it is too late!” Trump used similar language before the 2020 election: “I think any Jewish people who would vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty”.

Lawrence Tribe, who you often quote disapprovingly, said of Trump’s statement: “If that’s not an anti-semitic threat, I don’t know what to call it”. Political commentator David Rothkopf put it more bluntly. He said Trump was acing like a “mob boss” seeking to “shakedown” American Jews: “We’ve been menaced by fascists before, you two-bit goon. We recognize the threat you represent from the darkest days of history. That’s why we’ll never submit to your threats”.

So Trump is making it clear. If American Jews give money to the Dems and vote for their candidates they are being “disloyal”. We’ve heard similar language before. Hitler also accused German Jews of being “disloyal” and we know what happened back then. Maybe that is what Trump meant by “before it is too late”. Now I would expect you would want to call Trump out over his anti-semitic remarks. Guess we will be waiting a long tome for that to happen.

    1. You are a racist, bigot, and an anti-Semite… Probably a holocaust denier as well…

Do YOU support the N@ZI Azov Battalion that runs Ukraine’s military? That would be telling…

      1. Mike Hunt, the Azov Battalion was right-wing but never Nazi. That is/was Russky propaganda. It never ran the Ukraine military, the generals do that, of course. Finally, it doesn’t exist any longer.

        1. Russia Invaded Ukraine. That is not justified and but for the fact that forcing a significant defeat on a country and leader with half the nukes in the world is risky, I would be all for fighting Russia right down to the last ukrainian.

But pretending Ukraine is a paragon of democracy and liberty is nonsense.
Is all the russian propoganda true ? I do not know – I do not hear any of it.
Nor would I care if it was, or wasn’t.

Ukraine is not different from allies we have throughout the world. Necescary but far from perfect.

    2. Dennis:

Black Democrats call black Republicans Uncle Toms, claiming that they are voting against their own interests.

Hillary Clinton called women self-hating misogynists, claiming that they voted against their own interests if they voted Republican.

California Republicans often decry how Californians could possibly keep voting against their own interests, making CA a Democrat supermajority, which resulted in high crime, high gas prices, high homelessness, high cost of living, high regulation, high cost of doing business, and high taxes.

Trump is, indeed, quite popular among the Jewish people of Israel, due to his staunch and unflagging support of the Jewish homeland. A high percentage of American Jews vote Democrat, which many believe is against their own interests. It is not anti-semitic to note that the Democrat Party supports false messaging that Israel is an Apartheid state. It supports anti-semites like Ilhan Omar and Tlaib. It supports the Palestinian cause, which is to destroy Israel. It created the anti-semitic BDS movement. It supported the anti-semitic BLM movement, which resulted in many Jews being targeted due to being white and successful. It supports the anti-white and anti-successful rhetoric of CRT, which also disproportionately affects Jews. Having the opinion that American Jews vote against their own interests is not, actually, anti-semitic, because there was no insult against the religion. In addition, one cannot be anti-semitic, and yet applaud the Jewish people of Israel, who do support him.

It is a false trope that Trump is anti-semitic. It’s truly ludicrous, considering he has a Jewish family and friends, and has shown brave support of Israel at a time when Democrats made such support very unpopular. It is misinformation.

      1. Karen: Sorry for the tardy reply but since you addressed me personally I thought you deserved a response. Once again you are the one who resorts to “misinformation”. The fact that Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is Jewish does not prove Trump is NOT anti-semitic. The same applies to other Jews who worked in the Trump administration. Stephen Miller, a self-hating Jew, was in charge of Trump’s racist immigration policies. Sheldon Adelson, the Jewish billionaire casino magnate, gave over $424 million to Trump and GOP candidates. None of this proves Trump is NOT an anti-semite. All you have to do is look at Trump’s many anti-semitic statements over the years:

        * During the 2016 campaign Trump posted Hillary Clinton’s face next to a Star of David with the caption “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever”
        * Closing out the 2016 campaign Trump had an ad with images of George Soros, Janet Yellen and Lloyd Blankfein with the warning of a secretive “global power structure” that has “robbed our working class”
        * When neo-Nazis marched in Charlottesville chanting “Jews will not replace us” Trump encouraged them by saying there were “very fine people on both sides”
*During his four years in office anti-semitic violence increased dramatically around the country. Jewish worshippers were brutally killed. By his anti-semitic rhetoric Trump encouraged neo-Nazi and other anti-semitic groups and individuals to act.
        * Trump told a room full of Jewish people that Jews are “brutal killers” and “not nice people at all”

Just a few examples of Trump’s anti-semiticism. The fact that Trump has supported Israel does not make the case you think. Since the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 every American president has supported it–even Richard Nixon who was a notorious anti-semite. The US supports Israel for geo-political reasons. Israel is a bulwark against Arab nationalism and the Jewish state, in turn, supports US foreign policy goals. So, yes, one can be an anti-semite and still support Israel. Trump cultivates the Evangelical movement. Evangelicals support Israel, not because many are NOT anti-semitic but because they believe that when the great apocalypse comes Jews will either convert or will die. Not exactly an endorsement of Judaism.

And Trump is a great admirer of Adolph Hitler. He told his chief of staff that “Hitler did a lot of good things.” Trump even kept a copy of Hitler’s speeches next to his bed in the WH. And, as I pointed out in my comment, Trump continues to use the anti-semitic dual loyalty trope that fuels hatred of American Jews. I say if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck–it must be a ….! The next thing I expect you to claim is that Trump is not a “racist”. Try to sell that one!

    3. Thanks Dennis, your changing your spots.

Providing evidence of Trumps support of all people including those of Jewish faith. Pasting all of his comments, shows Trumps sincerity. Good to see your self aligning with Trump and his agenda.

    4. Dennis, using quotes around something not said is lying. You lied. Trump’s post didn’t use the word disloyalty. Do you now understand why many people will not trust you?

Many left-wing Jews lack any fondness for Israel and some ignorantly hate themselves for being Jewish.

Trump is not anti-semitic and did great things for the State of Israel and for many Arab nations in the area.

    5. “[Trump] is also an anti-semite.”
Right. The President who moved the US embassy to Jerusalem is an “anti-semite.”

      Lie and smear much?

      1. Iowan2/S. Meyer/Sam: As the right-wing MAGA loving “troika” on this blog I welcome the opportunity to respond to your nonsense. First, all the quotes in my comment were double-checked for accuracy. I don’t quote Sir Donald without getting a second source. Trump did express his “sincerity” all right–his sincere and heartfelt anti-semitism. Second, Trump also said the following to Jewish voters during a WH exchange with reporters on 8/17/2019: “If you want to vote Democrat, you are being disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel”. Trump made this “disloyalty” statement because his campaign advisors were telling him Jewish voters were voting in increasing numbers for the Dems. In the 2018 midterms they voted 79% for the Dems. Trump was trying to peal off Jewish votes so he thought the “disloyalty” trope would intimidate Jewish voters. The appeal didn’t work. In 2020 Jewish voters voted for Biden over Trump–77% to 21%! From centuries of experience Jews understand anti-semitism when they hear it!

And here’s further proof of my claim. Yesterday, Trump expressed effusive praise for Kanye West ( who now calls himself “Ye”) who has been severely criticized for his anti-semitic remarks in TV interviews. West/Ye took aim at Jared Kushner and then claimed his “life was threatened by my Jewish managers, by my Jewish lawyer, by my Jewish accountant”. Did Trump condemn West/Ye for his anti-semitic tropes–especially toward his son-in-law? Nope. He praised the rap star for his support. Trump needs all the support he can get these days–even from fellow anti-semites! Should you still want further proof of Trump’s anti-semitism I will gladly supply it.

So who are the real liars on this blog?

        1. it is so comical when the Left continually uses the “liar” canard when they factually have no objective truths in their armamentarium, literally club to death others in believing their dictatorship of relativism and make no apologies in manipulating audiences with, wait for it, their lying.
