Companies Join Call to Suspend Advertising with Twitter

Twitter LogoNational Public Radio yesterday posted an article titled “Twitter has lost 50 of its top 100 advertisers since Elon Musk took over, report says.” The article relies on a report from the liberal site Media Matters for America founded by Democratic operative David Brock. The report lists companies that have publicly pulled their advertising and the article strongly suggests that it is due to the pledge of Elon Musk to restore free speech protections on the social media site. These companies are well within their free speech rights to boycott the company or suspend their support in light of possible changes on content. However, customers also have the right not to support companies that do not support their free speech rights.

The NPR article contains this graph:

“Chevrolet, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., Ford, Jeep, Kyndryl, Merck & Co. and Novartis AG all issued statements about halting Twitter ads or were reported and confirmed as doing so. The others ceased advertising on the platform for a “significant period of time following direct outreach, controversies, and warnings from media buyers.”

A quick review of these companies shows that many use the same vague rationale of Chipolte that they want to wait to “gain a better understanding on the direction of the platform under its new leadership.” These companies have not expressly called for censorship. They simply say that they will not advertise with the company until that they are satisfied with the company’s new “direction.”

The assumption is that the companies were fine with the “direction” of the old Twitter in limiting free speech. In the very least, it did not seem to be a sufficient concern to prompt them to make public statements suspending advertising in prior years.

The companies have remained silent on why the prior “direction” did not appear to be a corporate concern. They did not apparently view the prior Twitter policies as barriers to advertising.

Specifically, these companies appeared to have no objections to the company maintaining one of the world’s largest and most notorious censorship systems. The blocking of the Hunter Biden laptop story did not appear to be a barrier for advertisers. The blocking of individuals offering opposing views on Covid, climate change, transgender policies or other issues was not an apparent barrier. Yet, the announced intention to restore free speech protections has warranted these suspensions.

There is also a concern that these suspensions have followed a campaign from many on the left to pressure advertisers to pull advertising funds. The public statements have been celebrated by those seeking to coerce Musk into restoring censorship on the platform. The campaign is also ramping up as Musk threatens to reveal back channel communications related to the censorship of political and social commentary. The disclosures could prove embarrassing for many in the political and media establishment.

There is even a campaign on the left to ban Twitter from the Apple and Google stores to pressure Musk to relent on censorship. This could create a massive war between the establishment and these companies against Musk and many citizens over free speech. Musk is reportedly preparing for such a ban.

Companies like Disney have faced backlash over taking political positions  in states like Florida.  However, for the most part, companies assume that consumers will be driven by their products rather than their policies in making purchase choices. They may be right, but these companies are viewed by many as supporting an anti-free speech campaign. That could be a question for some consumers. For shareholders, these decisions raise questions of whether corporate executives are serving their interests in joining an effective boycott against Twitter.

The reason for their withdrawal of advertising remains intentionally vague but the timing and message seems quite clear. The move to pull advertising can lead many customers to question the “direction of the leadership” of these companies on free speech. If these companies do not want the restoration of the prior Twitter censorship policies, they should state so. They should also state what they are demanding from Musk if it is not the censorship or the banning of individuals.

These companies may insist that they do not want to have advertising associated with unpopular or offensive posters, particularly given the “general amnesty” for previously banned accounts. While it did not seem to be a problem to be associated with one of the world’s largest censorship companies, it is clearly their right to associate or disassociate with any company. It is also the right of consumers to choose to disassociate with companies due to their position on free speech.

  1. Don’t you get tired of responding to youself so much, John? Fifteen posts in a row are all from you. I’ve seen much more before, but your screeds are getting ridiculous.

  2. Rule of Thumb: when technology or services are “vital” (not optional) to surviving and prospering as a citizen, that private business is part of a “constitutional” issue. Congress then has the authority to pass “constitutional-remedies” like the Civil Rights Act’s “public accommodation” laws.

Another conflict of interest – not yet debated – is many of these advertisers’ technology and services are being used to violate the 1st and 4th Amendments.

For example: today it is nearly impossible to purchase an automobile, fitness watch or your child’s school laptop without spying technology. Consumers have little choice, there is no “opt-out” choice for new car buyers, fitness watch or kids school laptops. None of this technology is protected by privacy laws. Private companies, today, then can (and do) share this information with government agencies – without judicial search warrants. Any official anywhere, for any reason, can simply purchase your private data – using our own tax dollars – in order to bypass 4th Amendment law.

Bringing it full circle – these same advertisers have a conflict-of-interest in boycotting Twitter. Although Twitter is optional, other technologies and services are vital (not optional). Most of us need an automobile to travel to work. Most kids need a school laptop and most of need the internet to get a job or remain prosperous.

Under Article I of the U.S. Constitution, like the Civil Rights Act, Congress has authority to regulate constitutional rights when private companies are an accessory to constitutional violations.

  3. The mainstream media is lying to you about which companies have stopped advertising on Twitter. According to Bloomberg (and other sources) only General Motors has ceased Tweeting. Furthermore, Twitter is averaging 2 million new sign-ups a day, the most ever. Me thinks any “woke” companies who are virtue-signaling will come crawling back to Twitter sooner rather than later, just like CBS did, lol.

    1. This is one of many reasons that I would encourage those on the right to think carefully before joining the Orange man bad nonsense.

Today there is a massive campaign by the left to destroy Musk who at worst is a left of center moderate who is starting to vote for republicans.

The point is that the Left will do – and very successfully to anyone else, what they have done to Trump.

There is a long list of republicans that would likely make capable presidents.
There is not one that will not get the Trump/Musk treatment.

By the time the left is done with any republican – half the country will beleive they are to the right of atila the hun.

Republicans are not going to win elections with Romney’s or Kaisichs; or whoever your favorite centrist republican.
Nor can DeSantis win an election that Trump will lose.
I have no problems with DeSantis, and more than anyone except Trump he knows what he will face if he runs for President.
But expecting him to do better is blindness.

      1. Oh, yes, poor little Trumpy Bear–the big bad Dems, Libs and the evil Left have been gunning for him. He’s a victim of the big, bad “mainstream media”–defined as any media that points to the truth about this pig, even though the majority of Americans never wanted him, never supported him and never will. Trump is the one who cheated to get into the White House, and no amount of lying by alt-right media will change the facts that even a Republican-led Senate Committe, and Trump’s own head of US Intelligence confirmed–his campaign fed insider polling information to Russian hackers who used the info to spread lies about Hillary Clinton. He is the one who tried to extort Ukraine into ginning up lies about Biden in exchange for aid appropriated by Congress. He is the one who decided to lie to the American people about the seriousness of COVID because it made him look bad, with the result that the pandemic was worse than it had to be, more Americans died than had to, and schools, factories, businesses and restaurants had to shut down for about 2 years as a result. The economy took a hit due to his trade war with China, that is causing consumer goods to go up in price. He is the one who called White Supremacists “very fine people”, and who, just this weekend, entertained, wined and dined Ye and Fuentes, both of whom are anti-Semites. Fuentes is a Holocause denier. He is the one who started an insurrection after he could cheat his way back into power for a second term, after 60 + lawsuits failed for lack of evidence, after efforts to bully state election officials failed, and after one recount after another proved he lost. He still lies about this. He is the one who decided to steal classified documents just because he could, lied about returning them, and forced the NARA to use the DOJ and FBI to force the return of the papers. He is the one who fundraised over this crime. We may never know whether our enemies got copies of these papers.

But, the problem is NOT Trump according to John Say, because the evil Left, Dems, libs and mainstream media would go after any other Republican for the same things, so Republicans are victims, too. Therefore, according to his logic, Trump really isn’t a bad boy–the fault is the Left, Dems, libs and mainstream media. Do you know just how cockeyed this logic is?

        1. Gigi

I never use “libs” to describe the left.

You are “illiberal” – you are the further-est thing from liberal there is.
It is a grevious insult to the liberals that fought for free speech.
That fought for equal rights. that fught for civil rights to call yourself and those on the left today “libs”.

Turley is a liberal, Alan Derschowitz is a liberal. A long list of others you hate are liberals.

YOU and those sharing your ideology are fascists, not liberals.

        2. This is about Truth – it is not about Trump.

The left lies – and not merely about Trump.

We have the most excellent example in Covid.

The natural origins theory is just about dead.
But equally important – all the people YOU claim were looking for the Truth – LIED.
It is probably not possible to prove it came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology at this point.
But it is already proven that Faucci and the “experts” knew before most of us even knew there was a virus, that Covid 19 was likely man made.
And they went to enormous effort to hide that.
They blackmailed people, bribed people, and used complicit media to LIE.

They and all the other bad actors repeatedly listed – LIED and went to great effort to hide the fact that the US government – in violation of our own laws, was Funding this research – not merely in Wuhan but in the US.

There same people – again with the complicity of all the same people LIED about masks.
Before Covid 19 showed up, a dozen randomized control trials had been done in the US since the start of the 21st century.
Every single one found that cloth masks, surgical masks even N95 masks do not stop the spread of respiratory virus’s.
Since Jan 2020 – that result has been replicated in RCT’s atleast twice.
It was public knowledge in early 2020 that the effectiveness of N95 masks against Covid was 77% in the laboratory – significantly less in the real world. Anyone with the slightest understanding of mathematics could tell you that a 77% effectiveness rate is a speed bump to a virus that has a 2.4-3.8 transmission rate.

We have been lied to about lockdowns. Again in March 2020 it was known that Covid 19 had about a 14 day duration from exposure to resolution. A global 100% 28 day lockdown would have been able to stop Covid 19. But it should be obvious that is not possible, but anything less is insufficient. The most draconian country in the world China having rigoruously locked down, now faces complete disaster.
While the rest of the world now has billions of people with natural immunity. China has 1.6B people with absolutely no immunity to Covid,
a vaccine that does not work at all, and the world could not provide China with enough vaccine it it wanted. And we now know that the vaccine does not stop the Spread of Covid – it MIGHT reduce the severity of Covid. Regardless, China is facing a situation where almost 3 years of draconian measures are finally starting to fail, and when they do Omicron will burn through China like a forest fire.
I can go on about the lies regarding Covid. There is a long long list of additional lies you told.

But worse than the lies – you silenced anyone who dared tell the truth.

Everytime there is an act of violence – you LIE.
It is ALWAYS some right wing white supremecist, it is ALWAYS domestic terrorism – Until it isn’t. Until it is some deranged trans guy, or some deranged black guy, or some drug addicted left wing nut. It is ALWAYS a lie by YOU, the Left, democrats.

You lied about the Biden’s foreign misconduct. First it was a debunked republican conspiracy theory, then Russian disinformation.
Regardless it was all a LIE – and again you supressed ANYONE who tried to tell the truth.

You are constantly lying about the mess Biden has made of the southern border. There are more “kids in cages” now then there have ever been, but you do not care, your previous rants were lies. You will not enforce or obey laws you do not like, you are lawless. Conversely you will bend spindle fold and mutilate existing laws beyond recognition to use government power to go after those you disagree with politically.

You lie about the economy. You spend like drunken sailors and pretend you can do so without cost. You spend as if value appears magically, that no one has to produce it. You constantly blame others for your own failures.

Today you are lying about Musk. A man the left should love -the worlds largest producer of electric cars, one of the most successful people behind solar power in the country. And yet, he buys Twitter promises to end censorship and you go full bull goose loon, you jump the shark,
you threaten in multiple different ways to destroy him. And you LIE repeatedly about him and twitter.

All of the above is just a small taste of the lies of the left. Of left dominated institutions, or democrats, of you.

And all of the above ignores that long list of lies about Trump.
Should Trump disappear – you will LIE about any other prominent person opposed to your idiocy.
Is there anyone that doubts that DeSantis will get the Full Trump treatment by You, the left, the media, democrats ?
He already has. You praise the same republicans you villified before – when they are critical of people you do not like.
These are the same people you called fascists and nazi’s sometimes days before.
Every republican presidential candidate since Reagan has been labeled as a Nazi by the left.

You, the left, Democrats, the media, our institutions are increasingly full of vile, hateful LIARS.

That unfortunate conclusion is Evidence based, and can be compellingly made – without discussing all the lies about Trump.

1984 was intended as a warning – not a howto guide.

        3. You rant about election deniers – and yet here you are “Trump cheated to get into the white house”.
Repeating a HOAX from the biggest election denier of all – Hillary Clinton.

Should Facebook, and Twitter, and Turley and everywhere ban you for spreading “misinformation” Debunked left wing nut conspiracy theories ?
While your claim is false at every single level – even if it were True it would just be what democrats do in every election.

BTW what “lie” is it that anyone has spread about Hillary Clinton ? There are none – but Clinton is at the root of every single political dirty trick and lie over the past 30 years.

        4. How did anything Trump did, or said, or did not do or say make the pandemic worse than it could have been ?

There is no evidence at all that any countries or states policies resulted in less deaths or infections.
In fact YOUR claim is a ludicrously stupid LIE. No country in the world has EVER effectively dealt with a respiratory virus once it gains a toe hold without an effective vaccine. EVER.

There is nothing that works. That is not new. Masks do not work – we KNEW that before C19. Shutdowns do not work.

There is no evidence that ANY policy by any government or state reduced deaths or infections.

The very best covid outcomes were in states and countries that chose NOT to destroy their economies with ineffective measures to thwart Covid.

Sweden overall had about the same covid deaths and infections as the rest of europe.
At the same time Sweden is NOT seeing the wave of unexplained “excess deaths” that the US and the rest of europe are seeing.

Throughout the western world we are now seeing an excess death rate that is 3 times the number of people who died from Covid.

You claim that Trump botched Covid – yet, Biden had 750K deaths over 22 months, while Trump had about 300K over 11 months.
Trump faced Covid with no vaccine, and no one with actual experience in dealing with anything like this.
And yet Biden has done worse.

So once again YOU are lying.

        5. “The economy took a hit due to a trade war with China” – Really ?
Then why has Biden continued – and even expanded most of the protectionism against China ?

From a purely economic perspective the trade war with China was stupid – and continues to be so under Biden.
It si also mostly ineffective. The vast majority of commodities have global markets and global supplies.
When china can not buy soy from the US they buy it from south america, and those countries that would have bought from south america buy from the US. This is inefficient and adds a small amount to costs, but nothing consequential.

There are often legitimate national security reasons for trade restrictions. US restrictions on the exports of some technology, have significantly degraded Russian forces in Ukraine. Russia is unable to replace state of the art or even significantly behind state of the art military equipment and there forces are increasingly using 50+ year old weapons against an increasingly technologically capable ukraine.

Biden has continued US trade restrictions on the export of similar technology to China. Which has a small but real impact on China’s military capability.

I would note that China has rigorously implimented the most extreme measures to thwart Covid, and now finds themselves unable to stop Covid without destroying their economy, with a population of 1.6B people and no natural immunity, and no working vaccine, on the cusp of Covid burning through china killing hundreds of thousands a week.

        6. Right now in China and Iran we have increasingly violent uprisings against the Governments of China and Iran.

Are these “insurectionsists” evil ? Iran has elections – which are actually conducted better and more transparently than the US.
They have ONE election day large numbers of people vote, and the candidate chosen by the iranian mulahs always wins.

Are the Iranian protestors “election deniers” ?
          Are they “insurectionists” ?

Or are they fighting for freedom against tyranny ?

Worse THIS Government – Democrats, and Biden and Obama in particular are inextricably linked to propping up the Ayatolah’s.
The regime in Iran will eventually fall. Though democrats will have certainly delayed that fall.
Further rational people pray that the collapse of the iranian regime will come quickly.
rational people stand behind those in Iran seeking freedom against an authoritarian regime.
One that censors their press and restricts their internet, and tries to supress “mis information” and anything the regime deems hate speech.

We have a similar situation in China. Though barely reported in the US – the largest protests since Tianamen Square are taking place accross china. A large part of this is anger at China’s draconian and ineffectual zero covid policy. But it is also driven by a faltering economy, and by the collapse of a 16-28T dollar debt bubble that is wiping out the savings of most chinese.

One of the Failures of the Trump administration was in supporting protestors in Hong Kong.
The US and UK should have provided anyone from Hong Kong that wanted to leave with passports.

But Biden’s response has been far worse than Trump’s a few tepid generic remarks about supporting the right to protest.

Both the Iran regime and Xi’s regime in China will come to an end – hopefully soon. That would be good for the world and good for the US and we should do what we can to support protesters.

If democrats continue to grow their tyranny in the US – the scenes from Iran and China may soon enough take place in the US.

        7. I have addressed many of the claims in your post – but you do not seem to be able to put two words beside each other without serious error misrepresentation or outright lie.

        8. The problem is “not Trump” – because LITERALLY US problems today have nothing to do with Trump.

Trump did not drive up inflation.
Trump did not wreck a growing economy.
Trump did not drive oil prices through the roof.
Trump did not do everything he possibly could to encourage Putin to invade Ukraine.
Trump did not drive food prices through the roof.
Trump did not drive interest rates through the roof.
Trump did not allow 5M people to illegally enter the US in 22months.
Trump did not allow 100K fentanyl overdoses a year.

And on and on and on.

Biden is president. Democrats control congress until January.

This is YOUR mess, YOU made it.

No amount of stomping your feet and holding your breath will change the fact that Trump had nothing at all to do with the mess you have made.

        9. 80% of americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction.
          The largest number ever recorded.
Of the top 10 issues that american people want changes – Democrats are on the wrong side of 9 of those.

These are the reasons that lots of people expected a Republican tidal wave a month ago.

While that may not have occured – and republicans are going to have to figure out what went wrong.
It is inarguable that the Biden administration is an abject failure and that democrats as a whole OWN that failure.

And polls STILL have Trump beating Biden in 2024.

  4. Jonathan: When Twitter employees asked Musk whether he intends to move the HQ to the right-wing state of Texas, he said such a move would imply Twitter had gone from a left-wing platform to a right-wing one. He denied it and said his Twitter would be “moderate-wing”. That will be hard to explain to Twitter followers. Musk just reactivated the account of the premier right-wing conspiracy theorist Donald Trump!

In Ireland, the country’s High Court has just blocked Musk from firing the top Twitter executive, Sinead McSweeney. The Court granted a temporary injunction to review the firing. This may come as a big surprise to many Americans but many countries have greater labor protections from arbitrary firings. We are used to being fired for little or no reason. Over half of the Twitter workforce have learned that painful lesson. At Musk’s Twitter the remaining employees are now used to few if any sick or vacation days off. They are now expected to work 80 hr weeks for 40 hrs of pay. “Scrooge” is back–now at the helm of Twitter!

        1. “Every man who says frankly and fully what he thinks is so far doing a public service. We should be grateful to him for attacking most unsparingly our most cherished opinions.”
― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

    1. You spent years telling us that Twitter could do whatever it wants.
Now it is and you are foaming.

With respect to Ireland – Twitter can close down its offices in ireland. Then the Irish courts have no jurisdiction.

With respect to specific employees – Musk is obligated to honor the terms of any contracts Twitter had with employees prior to his takeover.
Otherwise he can do as he please.

The role of govenrment in employment disputes is to enforce actual contracts – nothing mere.
How many times does GM have to go bankrupt before you understand how bad an idea it is for government to put its thumb on the scale ?

    2. You can get fired for little or no reason.
You can also quit for little or no reason.

That is how things actually work.

    3. While I doubt your picture of Twitter today – if current twitter employees are unhappy – they know where the door is.
They are entitled to whatever they have a contract for – no more.

I would note that FB fired 11,000 employees recently – that is 4 times as many as Musk.

And Zuckerberg lost almost 100B in personal net worth – drupping to the 47th richest person int he world.
Musk spent more on Twitter than Zuck is worth. Zuck lost more than twice as much as Musk paid for twitter.

I expect there will be more layoffs at Twitter. It is near certain that Musk is going to much more heavily automate processes – such as content moderation. That is one step towards making twitter more valueable.

As I have said repeatedly – standard of living rises when the amount of human value increases and the amount of human effort decreases.
Twitter must produce more value with less human effort.

Musk is not stupid that is what he will do.

    4. “the only way in which a human being can make some approach to knowing the whole of a subject, is by hearing what can be said about it by persons of every variety of opinion, and studying all modes in which it can be looked at by every character of mind. No wise man ever acquired his wisdom in any mode but this; nor is it in the nature of human intellect to become wise in any other manner.”
― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

  5. Don’t like the way Elon is running Twitter ? You advertisers could have combined your money and made a better offer. Talk is cheap. I wonder if a flat rate of $2 per month per user would solve the money problem ? Minimum to no.content review,. I would pay it with no problem.

  6. Not surprising that Ford and Volkswagen are against free speech. Adolph Hitler had a hand in designing the original VW “Bug”. Henry Ford, Sr. and Adolph Hitler had great admiration for each other.” Sieg Heil VW, Ford!”, said Adolph.

    1. According to Crains|Bloomberg only General Motors [GM] Brands have ceased Tweeting.

  7. Somehow I think a year from now, with Elon Musk at the helm, twitter will be doing just fine.

    1. A Dollar-per-Comment Post (1$) charge would do it!
With Res Ipsa hitting 64,000,000 Hits, there should be enough Bank
to fund the Hon. Jonathan Turley Library.

  8. Twitter 2.0, including graphs saying signups and active minutes are at an all-time high
    https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-twitter-2-slides-signups-active-minutes-record-high-2022-11

Ya-Know, Twitter runs Internationally, so Countries that don’t have Free Speech issues [because they don’t have Free Speech ( a Constitutional Establishment Clause)], the Populace loves Twitter to; express, communicate, and disseminate. (Free Speech on the “Unofficial Channels”.

India will have 1.5 Billion People soon, if just a small percentage of that uses Twitter then Musk will succeed. The issue in the U.S. is that the Media Platform(s) are being ‘controlled’ and Who gets to control them controls the narrative.

  9. Someone should try 3 times damages. The case is there. You’ll find once you file it they distance themselves…but it still there. So Elon can still make all his covid fed govt money….3x over if the feds are paying….by simply alleging interfering with contracts….at al. That is the feds have to keep advertising on Twitter…
For at least that appropriations round…..but who sweats the little shot? It’s all a scam in the base.

  10. Everything is so political today. Americans have given up God and made politics their religion with canons, dogmas, catechisms, replete with excommunications, floggings at the public square and human sacrifices like the Incas and Aztecs. It seems not too long ago life was so much more simpler, corporations didn’t get involved in politics or virtue signaling, they didn’t tell us how to think or how we should vote, theater and movies were just entertaining and lifted up your spirits. Now things are so so different.

Today Irene Cara died, at age 63, for reasons which are not being stated. So in the interest of remembering when movies were entertaining and uplifting, and not political, corporations sold products and were content with sales, and young kids could dream and not groomed by ideologues, here’s Irene Cara’s great hit song “What a Feeling” in an equally great movie “Flashdance” played by the beautiful Jennifer Beale, both of whom were black and nobody cared.

    RIP, Irene Cara

fun fact: 4 stunt doubles were used in this final dance scene including a young male gymnast (backspin on the floor)

    1. Oh I’m so sad….that was a high school tuna. I may need to cry a spell. My husband is older and a musician….he’ll tell me to be sad or not for real….you have to realize when kids are not taught music…..they have no appreciation for the talent it takes. Shame on us…..we want to enjoy it…like it’s always going to be here. The powers to be might just give us a buzzing sound.?

      1. Worse today we call cutting off the vital organs of people “therapy”… Every trans wanna be ought to listen to this song before they cut off all their “feeling” …

  11. NPR, Chevrolet, GM et al. Ya’all can’t even get the fundamentals correct. How will you ever accomplish anything of true value?

Oh, and secession was and is fully constitutional – ask West Virginia and Bangladesh – slavery was unacceptable but law, in a society of laws, is inviolable.

NPR is an unconstitutional communist organ. The New GM (Chevrolet) became insolvent and must have been dissolved and liquidated, its remnants sold to prepared investors. The communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) denied those prepared investors market opportunities, propped up GM unconstitutionally, and appointed an affirmative action beneficiary as CEOette. Government has no power to operate a commercial enterprise or manipulate free markets. Where the —- is the Supreme Court, which, in 1803, was decided to have the power of Judicial Review over all acts of the legislative and executive branches?

Government exists, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights, to provide maximal freedom to individuals while government is severely limited and restricted to merely facilitating that maximal freedom of individuals through the provision of security and infrastructure only. Congress is limited to taxing for debt, defense and infrastructure. Article 1, Section 8, provides Congress the power to tax ONLY for “…general Welfare…,” omitting and, thereby, excluding any power to tax for individual welfare, specific welfare, particular welfare, favor or charity. The same article enumerates and provides Congress the power to regulate ONLY money, the “flow” of commerce, and land and naval Forces. Additionally, the 5th Amendment right to private property is not qualified by the Constitution and is, therefore, absolute, allowing Congress no power to claim or exercise dominion over private property, the sole exception being the power to “take” private property for public use. If the right to private property is not absolute, there is no private property, and all property is public. Per their sworn oath, Justices of the Supreme Court must support the literal, manifest tenor of the Constitution and the Supreme Court has no power to legislate, modify legislation, or modify legislation through “interpretation.”

The singular American failure has been and remains the Supreme Court; most Justices must be impeached and convicted of crimes of high office.

We gave a restricted-vote republic (Ben Franklin) to Ourselves and Our Posterity, not to East Timorans, Cambodians, Zimbabweans or anyone else.

  12. An ex-CIA analyst says Putin will be all over Twitter without regulations.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/11/former-cia-analyst-elon-musk-restoring-banned-twitter-accounts-putin-going-twitter-no-regulations-video

Would regulations keep ex-CIA analysts off? Might be worth it.

Probably not. I guess I will deal with Putin on my own. As for the ex-“Intelligence” imbeciles, didn’t they tell us Putin faked Hunter’s now verified laptop? Washington DC is a freak show.

    1. Maybe Musk doesn’t give a damn. Maybe millions of people like me don’t want to give their money to the car companies. Collectively the loss of our money by the car companies is going to hurt a lot worse. Maybe the result will be more Ford and GM cars will be made in Mexico and China with slave labor. Duh.

    1. Timb, please expound. What do you think censorship means? You must think that censorship means that only people who have the same ideas as you should be allowed to speak. If you are so inclined you might look it up in a dictionary. That is, if you are even remotely aware that there are books to be found that provide definitions. That is the question.

  13. As a dyed in the wool Chevy/Cadillac guy, it will suck not to buy any more after my current 2022’s, but if they boycott Twitter over free speech, I’m. boycotting them. Same goes for Apple. If Elon makes a phone, I will buy that.

    1. Cadillac has a new sweet EV that I have been thinking about buying. It looks like I now am imagining a new Tesla in my driveway. I’m going to get a new vanity plate that says FREEDOM. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rynxqdNMry4. The establishment didn’t like it when Richie sang this song.

  14. Why should we be surprised that Ford and GM believe that China was right on censorship. What a terrible thing has happened now that Elon Musk has taken away their censorship playground. They won’t be able to play on the merry go round with Xi Jinping anymore. An oh so sad day indeed for the autocratic believers.

    1. Tesla operations in the PRC have cadre’s of Communists. An international producing EVs or other product or services do so at the pleasure of the Chinese Communist Party.

Although I have used or plan to use Twitter, Musk is right for attempting to restore free speech. As for those corporations suspending advertising on the platform, making decisions on the buyers of advertising is not smart. They are public corporations that should be making corporate decisions based on returning value to their investors.

      1. Wait. Tesla, GM and all “operations” in the USA DON’T have “cadre’s [sic] of Communists”?

Have you ever noticed that, on TV, all commercials were ordered by the local communist party political officer to consist of Asians, Africans, Syrians, Mexicans, etc., including increasingly ubiquitous miscegenation, while eliminating Caucasians?

What in the —- do you think wholly unconstitutional matriculation affirmative action, grade-inflation affirmative action, employment affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, minimum wage, rent control, social services, forced busing, public housing, utility subsidies, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, HHS, HUD, EPA, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc., are, if not the principles of the very communists you reference???

The frog was gently lowered into cold water which was then rapidly heated.

Rather than instantly jumping out of hot water, the frog was sedulously cooked, boiled to death.
