We have been following the recommendations of reparations for black residents of San Francisco, including a proposed payment of $5 million per resident payment. The Board of Supervisors met Tuesday and reportedly gave unanimous support for reparations. Among the possible forms of reparations, the Board is considering a guaranteed annual income of $97,000 for 250 years and a home “for just $1 a family.”
The city council voted unanimously to create the reparations committee in 2020. The African American Reparations Advisory Committee voted to give $5 million to each eligible Black resident as reparations.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) created his own Reparations Task Force, which just reached its own recommendations for $223,000 per person. Others have insisted the figure should be $350,000 for individuals and another $250,000 for Black-owned businesses. One California politician insisted the figure needs to be $800,000 per person, reflecting the average cost of a home in the state.
Even Disney has gotten into the act with a controversial children’s episode in which cartoon children demand reparations.
Notably, California’s law expressly states that this money should not be treated as compensation for federal reparations. Some congressional Democrats have pushed for similar federal reparations and passed a bill out of the House Judiciary Committee in 2021 that failed to receive a floor vote. BET founder Robert Johnson has called for $14 trillion in federal reparations.
The proposals now put the San Francisco politicians in a bind after declaring that reparations are a moral imperative. Some are already saying that they will not accept reduced awards. One well-known California activist declared: “It’s a debt that’s owed, we worked for free. We’re not asking; we’re telling you.”
San Francisco is already facing a $728 million budget shortfall.
The Board notably did not approve the proposed $5 million payments and some members issued statements that bordered on the incomprehensible. Supervisor Rafael Mandelman spoke to “those of my constituents who lost their minds about this proposal, it’s not something we’re doing or we would do for other people. It’s something we would do for our future, for everybody’s collective future.”
Unpack that for a moment. “It is not something we’re doing . . . it’s something we would do for our future.” That sounds a lot like wanting to be seen as approving reparations while not approving reparations.
Virtue signaling has ended with the formal proposal. If the Board was not playing black voters by dangling the possibility of reparations, it can now prove its commitment by approving these payments. Of course, it would likely bankrupt the city, but that was not a concern when people like Mandelman were declaring their support for reparations. After all, if this is a moral imperative, it would seem that the “future” can’t wait for Mandelman and his colleagues.
Essentially all nations have practiced slavery in the past, including the African tribes who sold the black slaves that came here and elsewhere in the first place. Blacks are lucky to be here and owe a debt to America. It was only white people who ended any of it, no other race tried. There’s no one alive in American that owes any reparations for long gone slavery, and blacks who are demanding it IMO are reprehensible.

When San Francisco becomes irreparably insolvent after implementation, Newsom’s successor, and maybe Biden’s successor, will come to the rescue with a bailout. In the meantime, city services will decline because there is no tax money to pay for them. Will San Francisco eventually become like Gary, Indiana: Camden, New Jersey; Highland Park, Michigan: Oakland, California? By the time this dystopian vision becomes reality, the authors on the Board of Supervisors will be sunning themselves in Palm Springs.

CA was never a slave state. It is patently absurd to bankrupt the state, so taxpayers in a state that never allowed slavery could give money to people based on skin color. This is estimated to cost San Francisco households $600,000 EACH.
How can anyone justify the descendants of a Chinese railroad worker, who was discriminated against, paying reparations to black people? The descendants of Jews who escaped Nazi concentration camps, whites who worked on the Underground Railroad, and the Irish who were enslaved, rather than save owners, will be financially punished for a crime none of them committed.
Slavery was ubiquitous in human history. Native Americans were slave owners before Columbus set foot in the New World. It was Western Civilization that ended slavery within its boundaries. Slavery is still practiced on the African continent, where actual enslaved men, women, and children toil in mines in The Congo to provide Cobalt used to make electric car batteries for the elite to virtue signal.
It is absurd that slavery is the sin that will never be forgiven, but only for the US. Without the West, slavery would likely still be ubiquitous. Rather than applauding Western efforts to end slavery, the West is inexplicably blamed for it.
San Francisco doling out $5 million/black person will bankrupt the city, already infamous for human feces maps. There is also no better way to generate intense racism against black people, than to make whites, Latinos, and Asians pay to make black people millionaires. Everyone was wronged in past history. It cannot be unwound. People should not be financially punished for having a light skin tone.

Even if San Francisco does make black people millionaires, it won’t be enough. Activists claim that Union soldiers dying or getting maimed to free the slaves wasn’t enough. Whites risking their lives to help runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad wasn’t enough. The Civil Rights Act wasn’t enough. Nor billions of dollars spent on welfare programs designed to help blacks. Nor all the Affirmative Action, Quotas, diversity hires, or lowering the bar. Electing a black president was supposed to end racism. Then it was having a black VP. Corporations gave over $82 BILLION to BLM. That does not include other business and individual donations. Yet the budget of a small nation appears to have done zero to solve the problems in the black community. Activists are back at it, demanding more, more, MORE! We’ve spent and donated billions and billions of dollars, yet activists still claim the US has done nothing to make reparations for slavey, which was universally accepted at the time. Shall a black slave owner leave Mauritania, arrive in the US, and become a millionaire because he’s been oppressed?
Meanwhile, someone from Thailand can arrive here with $10, work hard, attain a middle class life, and send their kid to medical school, within 15 years, while an 8th generation black citizen is still demanding that white people take care of him because he just can’t possibly be expected to make it. This is the result of the propaganda of apathy and victimhood.
