Below is my column in the Hill on why Trump’s future may come down to the calendar rather than the evidence. This could get pretty twisted in the election season.

Donald Trump was back in all caps this week, denouncing prosecutors, warning of “death and destruction” if he is arrested, and even posting a picture wielding a baseball bat menacingly near a headshot of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
After each tirade, many of us denounced the inflammatory rhetoric while others insisted the former president was becoming unhinged at the prospect of being arrested. As if to speed along that decline, others posted viral fake AI-generated pictures showing Trump being arrested. Then Trump shared his own AI-generated photo of praying.
The fact is that Trump is in his element: In the land of rage, the most enraged man is king.
If you surf cable shows, you will see pundits in virtual ecstasy as they prepare for the possibility of a Trump mug shot or perp walk. The level of excitement could prompt Pornhub to do its first live courthouse feed.
The end-is-near predictions may be more of a fetish than a fact, however. A new Harvard/Harris poll shows 59 percent of Americans think the indictment is politically motivated, and 67 percent think the Trump payment in question was a personal expense.
Some liberal legal analysts have denounced Attorney General Merrick Garland for not expediting criminal charges against Trump with “the 2024 election cycle” in mind. If that is the measure, Trump just might have a winning hand — regardless of what occurs in these cases.
Many analysts have already addressed the dubious legal basis of the reported Manhattan indictment. The Georgia investigation into election violations is stronger, but that is not saying much; absent new evidence, the case appears to rest on highly challengeable elements.
Then there is the most compelling threat to Trump — the special counsel investigation into documents he held at Mar-a-Lago. While the Jan. 6 part of the investigation looks like another dead letter, absent new evidence; however, the classified document controversy involves well-established claims of obstruction, and not just possession of classified material.
In the meantime, Trump is doing what he does best: bringing out the worst in people.
After Bragg previously stopped the effort to pursue Trump, two prosecutors in his offices — Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz — resigned in protest and fueled a public campaign to force Bragg to indict.
In Georgia, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis rode a wave of election support in pledging to get Trump. Then Emily Kohrs, the forewoman of a special grand jury convened by Willis, went public in a series of bizarre interviews on CNN and NBC, literally giggling in excitement about nailing Trump.
If Bragg made the New York proceedings look openly political, Willis and Kohrs made the Georgia proceedings look openly comical.
In Washington, the Justice Department is dealing with the mess created by President Biden, who publicly expressed revulsion at the very thought of Trump possessing classified documents at Mar-a-Lago: “How that could possibly happen. How one, anyone, could be that irresponsible.” That was before Biden was found to have classified documents going back more than a decade in various locations, including his garage in Delaware.
In the end, the calendar rather than the crimes may determine Trump’s future.
None of these cases is likely to be fully prosecuted before the 2024 presidential election, assuming they survive expected challenges. And even if Trump is convicted, that would not be a barrier to taking office. The Constitution limits qualification for the presidency to being at least 35 years old, a natural-born citizen, and a U.S. resident for at least 14 years.
Trump is unlikely to see the inside of a prison before the election. Even after the election, courts likely would allow appeals to be exhausted before ordering the arrest of a sitting president — and those appeals could take years.
On the federal charge, special counsel Jack Smith would have to finish his grand jury investigation and then convince Attorney General Garland to green-light criminal charges. He then may need to bring an indictment before the end of summer 2024, since Justice Department policy discourages filings that might affect an election. For the presidential election, that period would likely extend to August 2024.
If Smith cannot indict Trump before then, he would run into another long-standing Justice Department policy. The department has long maintained (in my view, incorrectly) that a sitting president cannot be indicted.
If Smith secured a conviction before the election, Trump could still stay on the ballot. Indeed, even if he were jailed, he still could be elected president. After all, Eugene Debs ran for president in 1920 on the Socialist ticket despite being in prison for violating the Espionage Act.
Trump literally could run on a promise to self-pardon and then immediately negate any conviction. Indeed, that issue may prove the ultimate anti-establishment rallying point for him. Trump won in 2016 in part because many of his voters wanted to stick it to the media and political elites. So, a charge or conviction before the election could well turn that anti-establishment wave into a tsunami.
Of course, Trump could not pardon himself on a state conviction. Moreover, Georgia is one of only three states that do not give pardon authority to the governor; that authority rests with Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles. (Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican who has long been a target of Trump’s ire, may feel relieved to have his authority limited in this instance.) However, the state could push for changes to negate a conviction or prevent enforcement against a sitting president.
To most people, that may seem like an utter mess. For Donald Trump, it is an opportunity. Trump has always found advantage in chaos. That is why, if much of the public continues to view these legal cases as political prosecutions, Democrats may be handing Trump a winning hand.
A Washington Post columnist previously declared that Trump has nothing to offer in defense to federal charges. That may or may not be true, but “nothing” could prove a major “something” in an election year.
In the film, “Cool Hand Luke,” fellow prisoners asked Paul Newman’s character why he would continually raise the stakes in a poker game when he was holding nothing of value. His reply: “Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand.”

Republicans are all too aware of the fact that they continue to lose the support of the majority of Americans, so they pushed onto our federal courts as many radical right wingers as they can with lifetime appointments–so they can continue to wield influence over the law even though they represent less than 40% of the American population. The 3 SCOTUS judges overturned a right found to exist under the Constitution and which stood for 50 years-something that has never happened before. Obama was deprived of his nominee, and Alito. Indeed, in May 2020, a Time report revealed, a “shadow cabal” of leftist groups, unions, and corporations had prepared the narrative that Trump would “incite” a riot during the Electoral College session.
Intel agencies and law enforcement knew a Capitol Riot was brewing months in advance. They deliberately let it happen to “get Trump.”
No wonder they don’t want to release the other 14,000 hours of J6 footage.
They all knew. Even worse, there is now clear evidence on video that shows that Capitol Police officers opened doors for protesters and undercover police officers cheered on the “insurrection.”

Capitol Hill fire. Pelosi was pleased, Schumer beamed with pride, Democrats and well-wishers held a parade.
Trump is more likely to be convicted by his own Big Mouth. A lot of people out there are dealing with Adrenalin overload and exhaustion and other people in the Republican fold can pursue a campaign of competence and accomplishment. The aggrieved politician is wearing thin. Like all politicians, he needs a platform and so far I have not seen one. Note the almost total lack of cheering or clapping in Waco when he he went after Ron Desantis. I think there is a message there. Are the people at these rallies really there to cheer him on or to get souvenirs from a farewell tour. I think it may dawn on people that Republicans need an individual who can deliver a systematic breakup of the power structure in D.C. not an old and faltering bull who can damage friend and foe alike as he runs amok. At least I hope so. It’s a long time till 11/2024 and lots of swamps and land mines are out there. Who is more likely to get through the land mines? Someone focused on a goal as he navigates a circuitous route through danger or a rampaging tank moving through a field strewn with anti personnel mines but completely misses the anti-tank mine that ends everything.

GEB, I am a Trump and Ron DeSantis supporter. Both are great. Trump is an outsider, something we require. DeSantis is a thinker, willing to buck PC, and has been proven right most of the time. Engaging in support of one over the other is doing the bidding of the left. Both are strong candidates and whatever hatred sent Trump’s way will be sent to DeSantis.
It is not the man that the left and MSM deal with. It is leftism. Destroy the opposition with lies and hate. Destroy the nation as it is with lies and hates. We should not involve ourselves in helping one candidate or the others by doing the bidding of the left.
I am at many events with DeSantis, Trump, and others. The people at those events firmly support their candidate. The cheers are not for a Trump farewell tour. They are legitimate and stronger in the Trump camp than in the DeSantis camp. However, I note a foolish presently insignificant trend of taking sides against the other candidate.
I think Trump makes a mistake by attacking De Santis because that is an irritant. I hope he and all Republicans stop the back-biting of other Republican candidates. In his first Presidency Trump showed the way and exposed the left which is now using everything they have to kill Trump so they can start working on DeSantis. I suggest you and no one else help the left in that endeavor. We need as much support as we can get to end the tyranny of the left that has gone the way of the CCP.
Everything related to Trump is related to the unconstitutional electoral process we call “The Electoral College”, and we also have a real problem with the unconstitutional roles and responsibilities bestowed on the President once elected.
There are absolutely no competitive partisan electoral processes established anywhere in the Constitution of the United States, in fact you cannot run for President, Vice President, or Senator, and running to be a representative is futile, because the requirement is that the composition of the Most Numerous Legislative Branch must be an exact representation of the population, forming The People in their Collective Capacity, meaning that if the electoral process that is established in each State’s own Constitution to form the Most Numerous Legislative Branch does not form an exact representation of the population, then that electoral process must be disqualified.
We can’t even make Federal Election Laws, because the Constitution of the United States supersedes any law that can be made by congress, which must be made by a properly assembled congress, and you cannot amend or interpret the Constitution by congressional statute.
Now I understand that worded problems give the majority of the people difficulties, but the exact process for assembling Congress is established in Article 1 Section 2 and Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution of the United States and there is absolutely no reason to alter those processes. The same is true for electing the President and Vice President which is established in Article 2 Section 1 and the 12th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, and again there is no reason to alter that process as established.
Face it, no one can run for President in the United States, if you think you can then cite the requirements as established by the Constitution of the United States, and be careful, the requirements as established in Article 2 Section 1 govern the electors choices, they are not requirements to run for President.
Here again we find ourselves in a situation where if we followed the instructions we wouldn’t have all this political nonsense we have going on today, with both parties. The United States is not a partisan governing system, and a partisan governing system is not a democracy or a Republican Form of Government, which is guaranteed by Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States. And if you don’t know what constitutes a Republican Form of Government, then you can not possibly understand that requirement.
But I already know, there will be a plethora of excuses for not following the Constitution of the United States, and a lot of so called experts that try to spin the Constitution to fit what we are doing today in contradiction to the Constitution. But why have the Constitution of the United States is we are not going to use it for its intended purpose, to assemble and operate congress as a legislative assembly of the States as the Union!
Turley is getting ahead of himself with these predictions. Right now Smith successfully proved a crime-fraud exception to pierce the attorney client privilege between Even Corcoran and Trump. The evidence presented must have been overwhelming given how quickly the appeals court ruled on the matter. Turley left out that important piece of information which may be a sign that an indictment in the classified documents case may be much sooner than he predicts.
In the NY case Turley has been ignoring a great deal. Trump’s not so veiled threats that have been taken literally by his own supporters and Jim Jordan’s foolish attempts at intervening in the investigation by making demands that are clearly illegal. That shows a level of panic over the idea of being indicted. Trump really is scared of being shown in handcuffs.
While it is true that Trump can still run from prison. I don’t see how he can become president after being found guilty of a felony which would be an impeachable offense. He could face the prospect of being impeached a third time and be removed from office since the senate is controlled by the democrats. Republicans would be in a very difficult position where they would have to decide whether to issue articles of impeachment or not. As for Trump self pardoning, that would be a question for the Supreme Court to clarify. Trump wouldn’t be able to self pardon if Georgia found Trump guilty.

That is true, which is why I did not say that government spending is the *only* cause of inflation.
There are only two ways to pay for a government’s profligate spending: Taxes or fiat money. The Left has chosen both poisons.
The Fed/government spending con game:
The Fed creates fiat money (via low interest rates). Financial institutions (e.g., banks) borrow that fiat money. They then use that fiat money to buy, e.g., government T-bills and bonds. The federal government then uses that fiat money to “pay” for its profligate spending. Which then makes the economy awash in fiat money.
Like all incestuous relationships, this one spawns a monstrosity.
Economics is very simple.
We can only consume what we produce.
The economy is very complex.
Money is a lubricant for the economy. It is not the economy itself.
Without money the friction in the economy is too great and the engine of the economy runs poorly if at all.
But ever more lubricant does not make an engine run better, and may make it run worse.
If one wants an example of what happens when governments simply print money just look to the Weimar Republic in the 1920s where they tried to spend their way out of their problems. A loaf of bread cost almost a million Reichsbanknotes.

However one thing Democrats cannot seem to grasp is American’s see the double standards of the DC swamp, and are tired of it. Democrats only think “get Trump!” is a good strategy when it appears to be making him more popular.

I put nothing past the hatred that people like Jack Smith and Merrick Garland have for anything positive for Trump. They have their marching orders from those who have compromised them, and they will do as they are told.

There’s a LONG history of Turley hating and misreading Trump, dating back to Turley’s hooking up with Michael Avenatti to disparage Trump in the days preceding Avenatti being shipped off to prison as a convicted multiple felon. You won’t find a word about Avenatti’s then-ongoing felonies in Turley’s articles praising Avenatti while disparaging Trump — although there IS mention of Avenatti’s crimes in Turley’s comment section back then, thus bearing witness to well-known circumstances ignored by Turley.
Given his history of extremely poor judgment related to hating Trump while partnering with and praising a multiple felon who was Trump’s arch enemy jurt before he was shipped off to prison, Turley should (but wont) disqualify himself as a judge of Trump.
