I have often discussed in columns what I call our “age of rage.” There may be no more defining moment of that age than what unfolded today in the Capitol as Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., screamed about gun control. Various Democratic members, including former House Majority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md, tried to calm Bowman. However, after Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, asked him to stop yelling, Bowman shouted “I was screaming before you interrupted me,” which could now go down as the epitaph for our age.
As members filed out of the House floor, Bowman was yelling about Republicans killing children and not caring about the carnage in our schools: “What are they doing about it? Nothing. They don’t have the courage. They’re cowards,” Bowman can be heard shouting as the video begins. “Three 9-year-olds. Are they going to those funerals? No!”
Massie stopped to address the attacks and noted “You know there’s never been a shooting at a school that allows teachers to carry?”
Bowman responded “More guns? More guns leads to more death” and continued to scream: “Republicans won’t do S— when it comes to gun violence.” He then continued on Twitter.
Massie responded:
“He wanted to discuss solutions to school shootings, but when I offered a solution he began shouting. When he asked for data, I gave him data, but then he just shouted more. Bring facts. There’s never been a school shooting in the hundreds of schools that allow staff to carry.”
The point is not the merits. This is an important national debate and the underlying facts continue to be debated, including statements from President Joe Biden that some of us have challenged.
However, this scene captured how rage has replaced reason in our public discourse.
Stop hanging out with the “both sides do it” crowd for heaven’s sake. There’s one side, and one side only, refusing to debate on the merits of every so-called controversial subject since the founding (1776!) of our Republic. The Democratic Party (RINOs too) are to blame – if you cannot name the enemy how can you defeat it?
Be it the very nature of America’s founding (White Supremacy, really!), to the climate change catastrophe narrative, where the Democrats claim there is no debate because the case is settled, to the subject of this essay, where any talk of truly securing schools, and protecting lives, is sidetracked by the one-size-fits-all gun grabbing mantra literally screamed by Democrats whenever there’s a mass shooting.
The three biggest drivers of gun sales are Democratic Party policies: (1) Anti-policing, pro-criminal policies; (2) Two-tiered justice system, where opposition to Democratic Party policies is akin to domestic terrorism; and (3) Lawlessness on the southern border, where upwards of 4 million unvetted, strangers were encouraged, enabled, and incentivized to enter the USA illegally over the past two years.
Democrats in the media, the bureaucracy, and academia must decide where their loyalty lies, is it with their “Party” or with our “country”, they are mutually exclusive, that means they cannot be both.
It seems a fair question to ask: When Obama and Biden held the White House, and Democrats held both the Senate and House… Why did they not take action on the gun control issue about which now they are so enthusiastic?
Could it be they’d rather have the issue than the solution?
This is how the radical left progressive justice system actually works. If the left views you as a political opponent, that is.

Many said Arming Airline Pilots was wrong after 9-11. Are there going to be Federal Air Marshals on every flight? Arming Pilots Against Terrorist Act is a very “cost” effect deterrent. Many of the arguments against it is the same about arming/training teachers and staff volunteers. It is an cost effective deterrent. The Federal Flight Deck Officer Program is/was not for everyone. It is volunteer program. There is a non profit organization training volunteer teachers/staff to law enforcement standards.

Actually having a gun does make us safer.. the data you cite doesn’t show this…
The reason it makes us safer is that in the event of an emergency when seconds count, the police are minutes away. Having that gun nearby can save lives.
But this is more of a probability than a data point. Not enough people are carrying a concealed weapon to make a statistical difference when looking at crime data.

Gun free zones are perfect opportunities for mass shootings.
The Buffalo NY guy picked that particular grocery store as it was less likely to have CCW citizens. It did have a security guard, but the shooter was wearing body armor, unfortunately. Had the security guard had a long gun, the outcome could of been different.
The mall shooter (sorry, dont recall what city/state), was stopped by a young man who was carrying in the mall, despite of their no gun policy. The young man stopped the shooter.
The recent Nashville shooter, police are reporting she dismissed two other potential targets as they had more security. She choose the softer target.
Oddly enough, cities with the highest gun violence rates are those with the strictest gun control laws.
It is not lost on me, some of the cities loosing population are the ones with strict gun control laws, and soft on crime, no cash bail policies and were among some of the loudest calling for defund the police.
Cities that did in fact enact defund the police policies, have some of the highest crime rates. They also have some of the highest police vacancies. If you were a LEO, would you want to work in a city where the city council, the mayor, some of the citizens are hostile toward you?

Witness also the Virginia Tech shooting: 32 people killed in a gun free zone b/c nobody there could stop the killer. Around the same time, a gunman tried to do something similar in a Colorado church but was stopped by someone who was packing, thus saving countless lives.
