Bloggie Doggie: Meet Charlie, Our Pet of the Week

This week’s winner of the Pet of the Week is this beautiful creature, Charlie. The proud pet of Malcolm, Charlie is all personality, though a menace to slow-moving birds. If you are interested in nominating a pet (any species allowed), you can find the questions here.

Name: Charlie

Breed(s): German Shepherd/Chow/NY Stray

Age: 6

Quirks: He’s obsessed with his stuffed hedgehog, has a black tongue, and loves chasing birds (mostly unsuccessfully). Watching him chase a bird is hilarious. Picture what it would look like if a dog went back in centerfield and tracked down a fly ball and you’ve got an idea of what it looks like to see Charlie chase a bird.

Favorite food: Steak

Questions:

1. What story or habit sums up your pet’s character or lack thereof?

When you come home, he grabs his favorite stuffed animal (hedgehog), or second favorite (a moose I got at an Alaska Westlaw event), if that one can’t be immediately located, and struts around the house holding it high in the air, wagging profusely.

2. What historical figure does your pet most resemble? (Outfits are permitted)

I think Teddy Roosevelt. When he is sitting in the right way, there’s an uncanny resemblance. He’s also the best traveled dog I’ve ever met. Like TR, Charlie was also born in New York City Charlie’s lived in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts and Alaska, he’s probably been to about 30 states. Just like Teddy, he’s explored the land.

3. Why would your pet be a good choice for the Supreme Court and what judicial philosophy would he or she likely bring to rulings?

Charlie has a diverse background. He would be the first Asian to serve on the high court, but would also follow in the footsteps of so many of his predecessors as he’s New York born. His philosophy would waiver, depending on which one would guarantee adoption of shelter dog in a given case. He’s a good watchdog, so I expect he would steadfastly abide by his convictions, despite admonitions or encouragements to the contrary from his colleagues.

4. What public office would your pet be best suited to assume?

His talent for being an amazing watchdog is unmatched, and therefore, I think he would be a great Attorney General.

5. Which Supreme Court justice or leading politician would you feel most comfortable and least comfortable in using as a pet sitter for a weekend?

Least Comfortable: Clarence Thomas. Despite my best efforts, Charlie does not like African American men. I think it goes back to the days before I owned him. I’m positive he was abused, and I suspect it was by a black man, but can never be sure.

Most Comfortable: Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Charlie loves older ladies, especially grandmothers. He takes to them immediately, and they generally like him as he’s fun to treat.
