Formal Investigation Launched into Age of Chinese Gymnast He Kexin

The International Olympic Committee has ordered an investigation into the mounting evidence of an official campaign by the Chinese government to falsify the age of gold medalist He Kexin. Recently uncovered Chinese documents reinforce the widespread view that China has lied to the OIC and, again, altered government documents to qualify an underaged athlete.

Officials are citing “discrepancies” over the age of He Kexin. The investigation notably does not include the other gymnasts who have faced identical allegations. He has received the most attention due to the existence of documents from the government contradicting China’s representations on her age, here.

If true, this fraud required an extensive governmental conspiracy by China. Given that fact and the prior falsification of a Chinese gymnast in an earlier game, one would hope that the investigation would extend to all of the team members.
