Johnston is facing six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance, but the police have refused to identify the drug involved. The counts are second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance — generally manufacturing or delivering drugs — as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession. However, the Anchorage Daily News is reporting that police sources have told it that the arrests “are in relation to the drug oxycontin.”
If true, this sounds more than a Russ Limbaugh addiction. The arrest seems to come right out of the SNL live parody when Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) refers to Wasilla proudly as the “meth capitol of Alaska.” It turns out to be true. The Matanuska-Susitna area is viewed by police as the center the methamphetamine production in Alaska, In 2003, authorities uncovered nine meth labs in the area. Last year, the number increased to 42.
