Lawyer Wins 2008 Best Lie Award

Lawyers across the nation are beaming with pride this morning after one of our own was awarded the coveted title of the best lie of 2008. The The Burlington Liars Club award in Milwaukee went to lawyer Garth Seehawer, 71, of Oconto Falls, who told a whooper about his grandson: “My grandson is the most persuasive liar I have ever met. By the time he was 2 years old he could dirty his diaper and make his mother believe someone else had done it.”

After receiving the award, Seehawer “When you’re the best in the world at something, sure, that’s an honor.” But of course, no one believed him.

Seehawer competed against 160 entries, or so they said.

The Burlington Liars Club began in 1929 when reporters Otis Hulett and Mannel Hahn made up a story about a lying contest between the Burlington police and fire departments. The Associated Press reports that “The police chief won after he said he’d never be good at lying because he never told a lie.”
