To Serve and Protect: Ohio Officer Pushes Man Out of Way of Careening Car Before Being Hit Himself on Highway

When Lt. john Lambert took his oath to serve and protect, he meant it. In the video below, Lambert pushes a driver out of the way only to be struck himself by a careening car on Interstate 176. The result was broken bones, including his pelvis as well as damage to his left eye socket.

While we often follow the missteps of people in the legal system from judges to police officers, this video reminds us of the dangers and the bravery needed to be a law enforcement officer.

Lambert, 42, has been on the force for 22 years and had stopped to assist a man who had crashed into a wall on an icy ramp. A 30-year-old woman then lost control of her car and struck the front of the police car. She then slid sideways into the men. The other man was saved by Lambert’s fast action.

Cleveland has seen its share of such bizarre accidents this winter, including an officer who hit a man getting out of his car on the highway, here.
