Police were suspicious when Kato’s 53-year-old granddaughter told them that the birthday boy “doesn’t want to see anybody.” They then confirmed that no one in the pension fund had actually spoken to Kato in some time.
A search found Kato’s mummified remains “lying in his bed, dressed in long underwear.”
