GOP Garanimals? Santorum Blames Abortion For Social Security Problems

Sometimes I get the feeling that politicians engage in a type of political Garanimals games: match any two or three signature words to enhance their political effect. Newt Gingrich warned citizens of how atheists and Islamic radicals would join together to destroy American. Now, presidential candidate Rick Santorum has combined abortion with social security to say that America’s
“abortion culture” is the reason that the Social Security system is failing. He would have gotten the full ten points if he added “feminists” or “environmentalists” in the dire warning.

The former Republican Pennsylvania senator said abortion rates have reduced the number of children in the United States and, as a result, there are not enough young people to support the system: “A third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion.”

This of course put huge pressure on other candidates like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty who need to grab the remaining hot button terms before they run out. The remaining words include environmentalists, feminists, homosexuals, reporters (already partially taken by Gingrich who added them with atheists and Muslims), modern art, NPR, and fluorescent light bulbs. This is how the GOP Garanimals game works. Just combine any terms in a conspiracy theory. For example, “fluorescent light bulbs are part of a push by feminists on NPR who reject beauty as a form of sexism and want all women to be shown in a bad light so that more people turn to homosexuality.” Voilà, you have a perfect stump speech.

You can play this for hours with your family and friends.
