Let Them Drink Perrier . . .

Since the family is preparing for our trip to France (the first for our kids) in a week or so, this item caught my eye. France has opened its first sparkling drinking fountain — a quintessentially French idea in my view.

I know that this sound like an urban legend of who the streets of Paris run with chocolate and the public fountains bubble over with sparkling water, but it is true (at least half of it).

The French converted a former garden shed in the Jardin de Reuilly. They installed CO2 cannisters and iced pipes and . . . voilà, sparkling water for the masses. The water will be kept to 7°C/45°F.

Now if they can just get those public escargot dispensers to work . . .
