Report: Loggers Accused Of Capturing Eight-Year-Old Girl From Remote Amazonian Tribe And Burning Her Alive

Various groups have accused loggers in Brazil of a heinous and unspeakable crime: capturing an eight-year-old girl from one of the Amazon’s last uncontacted tribes and burning her alive as a warning to leave the mineral-rich area. Both a tribal chief and a Catholic group have come forward to confirm the story, which is still being investigated.

The girl is a member of the primitive Awá tribe and appears to have wandered from her village. Luis Carlos Guajajaras, leader from a separate tribe, claims that the loggers tied to her a tree and set her alight as a warning to other natives last October or November. There have been roughly 450 tribes people murdered in Brazil between 2003 and 2010.

Many years ago, I went to the Amazon and saw the deforestation of the jungle in some of the deepest areas. There was obvious collusion with the government and the result was horrific. Not only has the Brazilian government allowed the destruction of millions of acres of unique ecosystems and thousands of tribal villages, but mankind has lost unique species in the burning.

If shown to be true, however, this murder would eclipse prior crimes in its savagery and rage.
