TOP 100 IRISH LAWYERS

On Thursday night, I was honored to received an award as one of this year’s Top 100 Irish Lawyers in the World at the home of the Irish Ambassador, Michael Collins and his wife Marie. I have previously been honored by this selection but this year was particularly gratifying because one of my co-honorees was my former student Katie Harrington-McBride who recently began her work as counsel to Disney Corporation. I am enormously proud of Katie’s success and that of her husband (and another former GW student) John McBride.

As always, Ambassador Collins was a wonderful host and offered lawyers from around the world a warm reception. Other honorees present last night from the D.C. bar were Bob Bennett and Mark Tuohey — both of whom I have litigated against in court but always found to be consummate gentlemen and extraordinary lawyers.

Other honorees this year included Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy as well as federal judges like U.S. District Court judge Richard Leon.

It is always a delight to hear the Irish accents and stories — an experience that would have delighted my father, Jack Turley. Turleys are found in Northern Ireland and the counties Down and Armagh.

Much thanks to The Irish Voice and its editor Niall O’Dowd. Unfortunately, I had to leave a bit early due to a flight to New Orleans for a speech, but I would have loved to stay even later to listen to the stories and jokes. The gift for the gab has not been lost on this generation.

To my fellow honorees and the Turley clan, I say Éirinn go Brách.
