If this was a publicity stunt, it worked. The scene has propelled Brown into a hero for millions who see the Kardashians as the sentinels of the gateway to the American wasteland of television. What I find fascinating is that there is a certain obsession on both sides with those who adore the Kardashians and those who are fascinated by those who adore the Kardashians. If you come to television to watch the cultural car crashes, nothing is more apocalyptic than the Kardashians.
That fascination clearly has wore off for Brown who can be heard on the videotape below saying “Nobody cares about this family anymore!” He is then heard over his live mike saying “I’m having a good Friday, so I refuse to talk about the Kardashians!” He tell his co-anchor: “You are on your own, Amy. I can’t do it, I’ve had enough Kardashians! I can’t take any more Kardashian stories on this show!” The co-anchor Amy Kaufeldt seems shocked as says, “He left me.”
Brown was quickly replaced by a back up host, Rumba 1003 radio host and broadcast guest Jenny Castillo who played along like the Kardashian pet naming was really really interesting. Brown was still not convinced and can be heard saying “I don’t care about this family. I’m sick of this family. It’s a nonstory!”
Brown’s hero status was tarnished a bit when he later posted a video to Facebook of the outburst with an apology. It appears that the owners of the station cannot do without the Kardashians but they could do without Brown.
