Artistic License? Actor Takes Police On Car Chase After Saying He Would Turn Himself In After Performance

Sheboygan driver, David Neese had a novel defense (and even more novel solution) to being arrested this month on suspicion of theft: he is an actor and would have to perform before surrendering.  Neese, 61, proceeded to speed away from police, who clearly did not appreciate a claim of artistic license. He was charged with felony attempting to flee or elude a traffic officer and misdemeanor resisting an officer.

Neese was originally pulled over for a busted headlight but then identified as being wanted for theft. Things then went from bad to worse as Neese explained that an arrest at the moment would not be convenient given his expected performance on Sunday.

The car chase was a hardly anything out of Hollywood, but enough to generate added charges.  Ultimately, road spikes were used to puncture his tire.

The Calumet County Community Theatre  had Neese in the cast of  “Noises Off” which is described as a “hilarious play about a play, along with all the backstage mischief that ensues.”  Perhaps Neese is a method actor.

When Neese is not on stage or in car pursuits, he is a District Sales Manager at The Sheboygan Press.

There was a time when being a Thespian meant something.
