C-Span to Air Full Interview on The Indispensable Right Tonight

Today C-Span is airing a long interview on my new book, The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage, at 8 p.m. tonight on C-Span Book TV. It will then air at later times and be available on the C-Span website.

The interview held special meaning for me because the interviewer was none other than Nadine Strossen, the former head of the ACLU and one of the world’s most prominent civil libertarians. Nadine brought a depth of knowledge to the interview that made for a fascinating hourlong exchange.

Nadine Strossen not only led the ACLU during its heyday, but has remained a leading advocate for free speech around the world. She is a law professor at New York Law School and a prolific writer in her own right.

The ability to share a discussion of these issues with such a renowned figure in the field was a great honor. I hope that some of you can watch the interview, particularly for the insights of Nadine on the current threats to free speech in America.

Nadine wrote:

“Jonathan Turley’s magnum opus should be required reading for everyone who cares about free speech—certainly including anyone who questions or criticizes strong free speech protection. This a unique synthesis of the historical, philosophical, artistic, and even physiological bases for protecting free speech as a right to which all human beings are inherently entitled, and Turley provides riveting accounts of the courageous individuals, throughout history, who have struggled and sacrificed in order to exercise and defend the right. The Indispensable Right is an indispensable book.”
