C-Span to Air Full Interview on The Indispensable Right Tonight

Today C-Span is airing a long interview on my new book, The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage, at 8 p.m. tonight on C-Span Book TV. It will then air at later times and be available on the C-Span website.

The interview held special meaning for me because the interviewer was none other than Nadine Strossen, the former head of the ACLU and one of the world’s most prominent civil libertarians. Nadine brought a depth of knowledge to the interview that made for a fascinating hourlong exchange.

Nadine Strossen not only led the ACLU during its heyday, but has remained a leading advocate for free speech around the world. She is a law professor at New York Law School and a prolific writer in her own right.

The ability to share a discussion of these issues with such a renowned figure in the field was a great honor. I hope that some of you can watch the interview, particularly for the insights of Nadine on the current threats to free speech in America.

Nadine wrote:

“Jonathan Turley’s magnum opus should be required reading for everyone who cares about free speech—certainly including anyone who questions or criticizes strong free speech protection. This a unique synthesis of the historical, philosophical, artistic, and even physiological bases for protecting free speech as a right to which all human beings are inherently entitled, and Turley provides riveting accounts of the courageous individuals, throughout history, who have struggled and sacrificed in order to exercise and defend the right. The Indispensable Right is an indispensable book.”

  1. I watched in real time, and recorded it. This morning, over Saturday Coffee (We make/serve Coffee at Church on Sunday.) I re-watched it with B. (Mrs. me, the boss…) and had to pause it to explain several references (Which, having seen it already, I had researched late last night, so as to seem smarter and more well read than I really am…) to the “functional” and “natural” schools, the FIRE! quote, Charlotte Whitney, etc.

It was engaging, fun, and good for three cups.

P.S. Did you autograph my copy yet?

  2. Why not reach out to the bullies out there who want to pulverize you for saying things and making comments
that they don’t like….pretty much everyone.

  3. LOL LOL LOL — (hang on — gotta catch my breath — OK) — LOL LOL LOL
Turley should serve eggs with this spam. His drooling hired trolls here need some nutrition.

    1. Gee, it’s so crazy and hilarious that an author would plug his book on his own platform! INSANE! Never happened before or again!

    2. Lately it seems there’s too much free speech and the words and images can be overwhelming. It’s difficult to imagine what it must be like to be a child in today’s world.

I may read the book, look up Brandeis and Holmes in response to Whitney. I’ll give it a go if time permits.

      Thank you.

  4. Thanks for the heads up. I have set my system to record it at 7 p.m. central time.

  5. I read it. I liked it, although it was verbose in places, and I gave it to my grandson who is in law school. It will help him a lot, if he reads it.

  6. Congratulation….how do you produce 2 interesting articles a day is amazing. Thank you for questioning even your own prejudices when surrounded by insane Democrats who apparent are unaware of their HATRED of America…as they enjoy fantastic richest as they STEAL ever more wealth based on PRINTED MONEY. NY and DC are rich because they are destroying the soul of the country. Wall Street money spins…it doesn’t really invest. DC spends to make cronies rich with little thought to VALUE and investment. I now watch project in NY, CT, NJ, PA, MD, MA, etc which are JUST OBVIOUS money spenders…to make Democrats even richer. How many new roads getting paved in Fl, TX, SD?

  7. Fortunately the CSPAN YouTube channel publishes many of these complete book-related interviews, so I should be able to view it here in Việt Nam. Cheers, Professor!
