I Didn’t Apologize and You Can’t Make Me: White House Denies that Bush Apologized about Use of Quran for Target Practice

The White House is directly contradicting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki who told Iraqis that President George Bush had apologized for the use of the Quran for target practice. While the distinction may be lost on many between “deep concern” and an “apology,” it will not likely be lost on the Iraqis who are likely to see the distinction as an added insult.

The Iraqis are clearly not familiar with the Bush Administration’s new guideline for post-atrocity responses.

The official grades of responses are as follows:

Invasion of a country based on false intelligence — denial followed by new rationale — Expression of FRUSTRATION

Use of Holy Book for target practice — prosecution — Expression of CONCERN

Loss of thousands of lives in unpopular war — give up golf — Expression of SOLIDARITY

Unlawful surveillance program — denial followed by strident defense — Expression of PRIDE
