Bus Rage: Greyhound Cancels Ad Campaign After One Passengers Cuts the Head Off Another Passenger

Greyhound has decided that its ad campaign will have to be pulled after the recent decapitation and cannibalism of one of its passengers by another passenger. Greyhound campaign proclaimed: “There’s a reason you’ve never heard of ‘bus rage.'” Well, we’ve heard a bit about it now.

Chinese immigrant Vince Weiguang Li cut the head of 22-year-old carnival worker Tim McLean on a trip from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He then displayed the head to the passengers and allegedly ate some of McLean’s flesh. In his first appearance in court, Li asked the judge to kill him. Click here and here. What is interesting is that he was charged with only second degree murder. I shutter to think what is required for first-degree murder in Canada if beheading and eating a passenger does not satisfy the criteria. Li has been ordered into a mental evaluation, no surprise there.

As for Greyhound, I am not sure how the company can tweak the ad campaign. They could point out that 36 of 37 passengers finished the trip without decapitation or overt signs of cannibalism.

They could try humor in a follow up like “well, OK, you’ve probably heard of bus rage, but did you hear the one about the carny and the cannibal traveling together to Manitoba?”

They may be better off with the classic “Leave the Driving to Us.”
