Police Arrest Three Allegedly Planning Assassination of Sen. Barack Obama In Denver

Three men have been arrested in an alleged plot to kill Senator Barack Obama by shooting him from a high sniper position. Various guns and equipment were seized by the police in the arrest of Tharin Robert Gartrell, 28, Nathan Johnson, 32, and Shawn Robert Adolf, 33.

Prosecutors insist that Obama was not in any real danger but the arrests are a chilling reminder of the dangers of his unprecedented run for the White House. Police seized a bullet-proof vest, two rifles — one of which was stolen; another had a hunting scope — as well as ammunition, drugs and walkie-talkies.

The plot was allegedly to kill Obama Thursday night during his acceptance speech “from a high vantage point” at Invesco Field at Mile High stadium using a “rifle … sighted at 750 yards.”

The bust came after a drunk driving arrest turned up drugs and weapons. It was Gartrell who was driving the truck. Johnson was arrested at home and Adolf arrested in a hotel after he tried to jump from from a sixth-floor window.
