Army Employee Admits to Being Israeli Spy . . . And Faces Five Years In Prison

In a little covered story, a former employee of the U.S. Army’s Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey , Ben-Ami Kadish, pleaded guilty to being a spy for Israel and allowing an agent of the Government of Israel, Yossi Yagur, tp photographed secret papers at his home. Yet, he is only facing five years in prison. He spied for Israel from 1979-1985.

The Justice Department statement explains that “On numerous occasions from about 1980 through 1985, Kadish provided classified documents relating to the U.S. military – including some relating to U.S. missile defense systems – to an agent of the Government of Israel, Yossi Yagur, who photographed the documents at Kadish’s residence.”

Yague was the same Israeli agent involved with Jonathan Pollard.

It is unclear why other spies get life in prison while Kadish, 85, faced a maximum of five years under this plea agreement. Pollard got life.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in Manhattan federal court by U.S. District Judge William H. Pauley on February 13, 2009.
