We have had cases where expelling gas or hugging an officer can get you charged with assault, here and here. Police has even arrested people for giving boyfriends unwarnted hugs, here. Pressing a knife to someone’s chin and assaulting them seems a bit more serious. The prosecutors need to explain the low level of punishment. Otherwise, the impression is a certain thin [black and] blue line at work.
At the same time, an officer who threw a 71-year-old man through a glass door and attacked a good Samaritan was not charged, here.
