What Inquiring Prosecutors Want To Know: Rielle Hunter Offers Details on Edwards Affair — And A Potential Criminal Prosecution

With reports of an expected indictment of former presidential candidate John Edwards for use of campaign funds on his mistress, it would not exactly be the time for a tell-all interview from the mistress. However, Rielle Hunter gives a highly damaging account to Gentleman’s Quarterly that could play a role in any prosecution. Nevertheless, Edwards has reportedly proposed to marry Hunter, who appears in a series of somewhat seductive poses in the magazine.

Hunter’s most damaging disclosure is that the affair began before she did any serious work with Edwards. She claims to have slept with him shortly after meeting him in 2006 and whispering to him how “hot” he is. She also states that staff passed her card to Edwards when she spotted him in a bar with the words “Rielle Hunter. Being is free.” It appears that being may be free but affairs for presidential candidates are not.

She also states that Edwards clearly wanted her to have an abortion even though he promised to support her. That will not play well with a jury.

Notably, when she says that Edwards stated “Falling in love with you could really f- up my plans for becoming president,” she responded “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” She appears to have now added the rest of the reading public.

What I do not get is why she would give the interview if she really does love the guy — as she claims in the interview. She had better hope he is not indicted because she may have to expanded on these statements. She reportedly testified at the grand jury.
