Clarence Pellett stopped to pick up Dryman in 1951 during a spring blizzard near Shelby, Montana and was shot seven times in the back as he tried to flee. Pellett ran a cafe.
Dryman, 78, had adopted the name Victor Houston and is waiting extradition.
He was given a sentence to be hanged in 1955. However, in 1969, after 15 years in prison, he was given parole and fled.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said that arrest shows that fugitives “can run from the law, but with perseverance and good investigative work, we almost always find them in the end.” However, it does not appear to have been the police but rather the Pellet family that found Dryman. They hired a private investigator who traced Dryman to the Cactus Rose Wedding Chapel, here. They then called police.
I could only find one review of the chapel itself from Ann P:
“This is a nice little wedding chapel. My brother got married here. It is cutely decorated with out being overly cheesy. They can provide someone to do the ceremony and are reasonably priced.”
Well, he certainly knows a thing or two about “till death do us part.”
